* In the ''WesternAnimation/CaptainPlanetAndThePlaneteers'' episode "Teers In The Hood", the characters masquerade as teens at an InnerCitySchool. Linka wears a short crop-top. To a lesser extent, Wheeler wears a cap in school. Depending on the school, hats aren't allowed outside of religious reasons.

Not so in fiction. If a fictional school doesn't have uniforms, there will be no rules guiding clothing at all. [[MostWritersAreMale Female characters are the most likely to break with reality]], [[{{Fanservice}} sporting cleavage-heavy tops, short skirts and even]] [[BareYourMidriff bared midriffs]]. In reality, these students wouldn't make it to their first class without being sent home to change their clothes along with being given detention.

** By contrast, ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStoneOcean'' exaggerates this trope to absurd levels. Green Dolphin Street Prison is [[TheAlcatraz Alcatraz]] in [[OnlyInFlorida Florida]], famous for being brutal and inescapable, and possesses guards who won't hesitate to shoot inmates with shotguns, but the number of inmates who wear anything actually resembling a prison uniform can be counted on one hand. About a good two thirds of the characters [[BareYourMidriff have their navels out,]] and one prisoner by the name of D an G wears a damn ''metal helmet with a spike on the top'' along with what looks like a bear skin rug over a toga.

* In the ''ComicBook/Robin1993'', Gotham Heights High School has no discernible dress code with students wearing short dresses, [[BareYourMidriff crop tops]], spaghetti straps, halter tops, hats, shirts with slogans, excessively baggy pants and all manner of piercings and hair styles without reprimand.

* In ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' strips like [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=221 this one]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=609 this one,]] some girls are seen to wear [[BareYourMidriff midriff-exposing]] tops to school.

* ''WebAnimation/TheMostPopularGirlsInSchool'' has one male and one female example; most of the cast who don't wear their high school cheerleading or football team uniform at all times dress fairly conservatively, but Than wears [[WalkingShirtlessScene an open jacket with no shirt under it]], and Saison wears a [[SexyBacklessOutfit backless]], [[BareYourMidriff midriff-baring]] shirt so brief that her [[WardrobeMalfunction nip slips]] come from [[{{Underboobs}} below]].

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfJimmyNeutronBoyGenius'', a minor character named Brittany wears a pink and white shirt that [[BareYourMidriff exposes her belly button]] throughout [[WesternAnimation/JimmyNeutronBoyGenius the movie]] and the entire series.

* Sam of ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' wears the same [[BareYourMidriff midriff-exposing]] tanktop [[LimitedWardrobe every day]]. [[AlphaBitch Paulina]] and several other female students of Casper High wear navel exposing outfits as well.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'': A few of the female background students of Dimmsdale Elementary wears [[BareYourMidriff belly button exposing shirts]].
* ''WesternAnimation/KimPossible''. Not just the title character herself but her AlphaBitch rival Bonnie and the rest of the cheerleading squad wear [[BareYourMidriff navel baring uniforms]] that are more appropriate for college and professional sports teams than high school. Even out of their uniforms, Kim and Bonnie wore midriff revealing clothes in early seasons.

* Outfits that BareYourMidriff are so common among the main characters of ''WesternAnimation/WinxClub'' and the other students at [[WizardingSchool Alfea]] that you might think that ''is'' the dress code. It may help that Alfea is an all-girls school, though at least one teacher took issue with it in a throw-away line. That's not even counting their fairy forms, most of which seem to have a mandated short skirt.
