* Creator/AAPessimal follows the Literature/{{Discworld}} canon closely by accepting midwifery is one of the biggest single reasons for Witches and takes up a lot of their time. Even - and possibly ''especially'' - the Air Watch accept they are Ankh-Morpork's flying emergency midwives, if the expectant mother can't get to the Lady Sybil, or if a midwife from the hospital cannot get to the mother in time, or if there are no civilian witches available at street level. Before the advent of Omnicon communicators, it was not unusual for a ground Watchman to run into the street and start to frantically signal upwards to attract the attention of an Air Watch patrol witch. These days, Omnicon communications mean an Air Witch can report back to base that she'll be tied up for an indefinite period, and Control can get a reserve flier up to cover the beat.

Likewise, in most of these fictitious situations, the woman's baby is her ''first'' -- which, on average, ''rarely'' precedes a labor period of less than ''twelve hours,'' which would outlast almost any "crisis." On the other hand, there are documented cases of RealLife second or third babies who begin to deliver so quickly that the mother barely has time to get into a ''bathtub'', let alone a backseat.

In fiction the water breaking is often presented as a surprise out of nowhere, and the first signal that the baby is coming, while in RealLife the average mother will probably be experiencing labor pains well before the water breaks. ** Rachel's labour lasts ''24 hours'' and a double-length episode, with the baby in breech position. Her frustration isn't helped by the fact that ''five'' women come and go from her room during that time, one of whom barely makes it through the door before the doctor says she should go straight to delivery instead.
