* ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda'': Po tends to be self-deprecating and feels he is unable to change because of the constant verbal abuse and put-downs from Master Shifu and the Furious Five, who consider him to be a joke of a kung fu master. But he gains a lot more confidence in himself and his abilities later on in the film, earning their respect. Tai Lung, on the other hand, is a prodigy in kung fu, having huge amounts of praise reaped onto him by Shifu, which wound up giving him a huge ego as he got older. Eventually, this led to him trying to forcibly take the Dragon Scroll and then later suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Po when he is unable to comprehend the scroll's message. So, on the surface, they play this trope straight, but ultimately they invert it: the humble Po is confident in who he is regardless of how others see him, but the arrogant Tai Lung can't see any value in himself beyond the respect (or fear) others have for him.

* WebAnimation/WolfSongTheMovie has it be where on one hand you have the protagonist Kara, who largely because of various events throughout the film, quickly starts having doubts and insecurities about failing to save those she has cared about, but she still shows a degree of resilience, especially when her nemesis, the Death Alpha, is a massive {{Hellhound}} while she is just a wolf who frequently ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he knows he can do serious damage to her and is more dangerous than any wolf ought to be, yet, the dichotomy is somewhat downplayed as he isn’t completely arrogant and does have {{DiabolusExMachina some rather nasty surprises of his own}} which he is all to eager to bring out given the chance. His {{Dragon}} Cobalt more accurately fits the other end of this dynamic, as he is hotheaded, selfish and cowardly to contrast his master’s cold, brutish, strategic, burdensome demeanour, yet his dynamic with Kara doesn’t get explored much. He just really hates her selfless younger brother for ratting him out that one time..
