factual clarification on stage/film differences

* Creator/PatriciaQuinn accepted the role of Magenta in ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'' because she fell in love with the song "Science Fiction". Her agent pointed out that she hadn't even seen the script and she may have a total of five lines. Patricia said she didn't care and wanted to sing that song no matter what. When she got the script, Magenta had... five lines. Patricia Quinn had previously appeared in the stage version, so she knew exactly what she was getting into with the movie. Except that in the movie Creator/RichardOBrien sang "Science Fiction/Double Feature", which had been her song on stage.

When she got the original version of the script, Magenta had... five lines. Patricia Quinn had previously appeared (She has slightly more lines than that in the stage version, version of the play that was actually performed, and in the film, but still rather few, and in early drafts of the script the Time Warp didn't even exist yet so she knew exactly what didn't have her verse in that song).
** She almost turned down the movie when
she was getting into with the movie. Except discovered that in the movie Creator/RichardOBrien sang would sing "Science Fiction/Double Feature", which had Feature" instead of her (she says this later turned out ''not'' to have been entirely his idea as she originally thought, but she was rather annoyed with him at first), but was persuaded to accept on the condition that her song on stage.lips would still be shown singing the song.

** This was ''almost'' inverted by Creator/ChanningTatum, who was skeptical of signing on to the film because he thought it would be a pro-war, gung-ho propaganda piece. Then he read the script and [[DoNotDoThisCoolThing realized that it was none of that,]] and this trope was played straight. Many years later he confessed that he was forced to do the film due to a contract he signed with Paramount and he'd have been sued if he tried to back out.

He went on record saying "I fucking hate that movie"

* Creator/JackHuston basically outright stated that he did ''Film/{{Outlander}}'' -- the movie about Beowulf-meets-alien-monsters -- basically for this reason: because playing a Viking is "every boy's dream."

* ''Film/TheLongestDay'': Nearly ''everyone'' involved in the film--an epic retelling of [[UsefulNotes/WorldWarII D-Day]]--joined the cast for this reason: they'd all lived through World War II and thought the project was incredibly important. Some of the biggest stars in the world at the time--including Richard Burton, Robert Mitchum, Henry Fonda, and Sean Connery--joined, with many agreeing to a relatively low pay rate ($25,000) just to be a part of the movie; Burton and fellow Englishman Roddy [=McDowall=] in particular were so eager that they filmed their scenes for free. The only exception was Creator/JohnWayne, who demanded ten times as much money as the others and separate billing (largely because ''The Longest Day'''s producer, Darryl F. Zanuck, had insulted him in the past).

** "The Girl Who Waited" features an interesting example in that the actor was ''already'' on the show. The script called for a FutureBadass version of Amy who encounters her younger self, along with Rory and the Doctor, after a [[TimeyWimeyBall time-traveling accident]] strands her alone for 36 years. Originally, the producers planned to have a different actress play Older!Amy--but Creator/KarenGillan wanted a chance to try it, and the producers agreed. Gillian worked with vocal and movement coaches to develop an entirely new style for the older version of herself; that, plus prosthetics, padding, and extensive make-up, completely transformed her, much to the delight of audiences (and the extensive praise of critics).

* Creator/AkiraToriyama originally didn't have much involvement with ''Anime/DragonBallDaima'', but as he gave out advice and feedback to the production crew, he ended up enjoying it so much that he officially took over art and story direction. Many subsequent interviews about ''DAIMA'' showed that Toriyama was nothing but enthusiastic and passionate about the new series, up until his tragic passing on March 2024.

* Creator/HughDennis said on ''Radio/TheInfiniteMonkeyCage'' that he was offered a role in ''Series/MidsomerMurders'' and immediately asked "How do I die?" When he was told he'd be hit with a plank and then strangled with a python, he thought "When's ''that'' ever going to happen again?" and signed up.
