It's been a year after [[UsefulNotes/TheAmericanCivilWar the Civil War]] has ended, and the Peck family, consisting of Lee, his wife Maude, and their son Gerald, finish up what they are doing in order to have some lunch together. Right as they are about to chow down, the Peck family is invaded by an unwelcome and mysterious stranger who goes under the name, Jack Angel. Things start going for the worst when Angel claims to be hunting sheriffs for the sole purpose of exterminating every human being on earth, Lee being one of them. The plot then takes a turn for the worst.

* {{Badass}}: Both Nobody and Angel.

* BigBad: Jack Angel, who has ruined many lives without caring about the people related to his victims, and is the one Nobody's been after for 15 years after murdering his sister.

* DecoyProtagonist: The story makes it seem as though Lee is going to be the protagonist, given that he's the one that Angel's after. Unfortunately, he soon perishes after the loss of Maude. This allows Nobody and Gerald to swoop in and become the real protagonists of the story.
* TheDeterminator: Even though Jack Angel gets shot in the stomach, he still attempts to take Gerald's life, no matter how far he runs away.

* EvilCounterpart: Jack Angel is one to Nobody. Angel would gladly hurt a child, while Nobody would risk his life to protect one.
** Angel is also one towards Lee Peck. Both men practice Christianity, but while Peck is an all loving sherif who tries to do his job, Angel is a psychopath who kills people with glee.

* FatalFlaw: Nobody's pride and confidence almost gets him killed, while Jack Angel's determination to complete his goals does.

* TheQuietOne: Subverted with Nobody. While he doesn't talk a whole lot during the first half of the story, it's not until the second half when he becomes more talkative.

* SinisterMinister: Jack Angel plays with this trope. While he fits the "sinister" part, it's unsure whether he's actually a priest, or just a very religious nutcase.

* TwoLinesNoWaiting: The beginning of Gerald's story is interrupted by the ending to Nobody's story, both of which involve getting revenge on Jack Angel for killing the people they love.

** Angel is also one towards Lee Peck. Both men are religious people who do their jobs, but while Peck is an all loving sherif who is trying to do his job, Angel is a psychopath who kills people with glee.

* HumanShield: Jack Angel attempts to use Gerald as one in order to keep Nobody from shooting him.

* Hypocrite: Jack Angel claims to Lee that he "can't stand people who kill others just trying to live out their lives," despite the fact that he's doing just that to Lee's family.

* FauxAffablyEvil: Jack Angel appears to be very gentlemen like and polite. When in actuality, he's a monstrous sadist who kills people with a smile on his face.

* MisanthropeSupreme: Jack Angel's goal is to kill everyone on earth in order to cleanse the world. He claims that he got the message from God telling him to do so, but it's implied that he's actually just a sadistic misanthrope only using that as an excuse to commit murder.

* InvincibleHero: Averted with Nobody. Even though he's pretty good at dodging bullets, he still manages to get wounded after his almost fatal duel with Jack Angel.

* Bittersweet Ending: Jack Angel is killed by Nobody after exacting his revenge on him, but Gerald's parents and Nobody's sister are still dead, something that even Nobody comments on.

* EvilCounterpart: Jack Angel is one to Nobody. While Angel would kill someone just to get his hands on a child, Nobody would give up his life to protect one.

* FauxAffablyEvil: Jack Angel appears to be very gentlemen like and polite. When in actuality, he's a monstrous sadist who kills people to fulfill his sick desires.
