It's a case of [[RealLifeWritesThePlot Real Life Writes The Plot]] since it was due to the ongoing AIDS epidemic and a general movement away from showing casual sex in media, but it helps the film clarify how much Felix meant to Bond as a friend. Even when the world itself was on the line, Bond could still find time to get it on with someone. When it's about getting revenge for Felix, it's an entirely different matter and ''nothing'' will stop him.
