*** The Imperial Fists literally all died during the War of the Beast, but they were rebuilt purely because no one could countenance the destruction of a First Founding chapter. So that's why.

** There could potentially be a political aspect to this as well, the only Space Marines with a chance of survival in these Hulks are those with the most combat experience who also have a high likelihood of having earned Terminator Honors. Given that Terminator Honors are hotly fought over and a significant point of pride for those Marines granted said honors, a Chapter sending in those veterans may not want to stir the hornets nest by telling them to leave the Terminator Armor at home as it may lead to some rather uncomfortable arguments. Said arguments may result in these Veterans suggesting that a change in leadership may be called for in favor of those leaders willing to treat certain ceremonies and Honors with the respect and due deference they deserve.

*** Also note that because they can tear through the toughest of armours doesn't mean they will always fatally wound the person inside. The terminator suits are so bulky and thick that even if a genestealer does cleave through it may be the difference from being disemboweled or simply cut in half. That marine can then be retrieved, healed of those grievous wounds, armour patched, and back in the fight or for another. Where as in normal power armour the marine could have his entire chest cavity excavated quite easily.

* If Space Hulks have more radiation than they do air, why doesn't the Space Hulk Librarian model have a helmet?

* If Space Hulks have more radiation than they do air, why doesn't the Space Hulk Librarian model have a helmet?helmet?
** Because character models are helmet-less to make them look more awesome. Space Marines of all types wear their helmets when it's appropriate. Space Wolves wear their helmets when they need to, but don't if not needed to make use of their heightened senses. Any Librarian joining the 1st company is going to be a veteran and would act accordingly.

*** Death of Integrity also justifies a lot of the potential headscratcherness involved in a Space Hulk operation. For example, the marines were prepared to simply destroy the hulk outright until the Adeptus Mechanicus objected and asked them to investigate it first. The Terminator armor was used because some particular areas of the hulk were so irradiated that without the additional radiation shielding such suits possess even a normal PoweredArmor-clad Space Marine would not last long. Thus the non-Terminator marines were used to secure some of the less irradiated areas of the hulk, and even scout marines (wearing voids suits) were employed to explore the outer surface of the hulk for entry points and to assist techmarines.

** But besides all this, the biggest reason is because Space Hulks are insanely dangerous. You have radiation leaks, biochemical hazards, flooding from cracked tankers (water or chemical), undetonated munitions, rents in the hull, and worst of all damaged warp drives resulting in really, REALLY bad stuff happening like long term insanity, spontaneous violent psychosis, warp lighting discharges, unclean spirits manifesting, and blood from the walls and ceiling.

**** Think about this for a second. Terminators are the most hardass of the veterans of the chapter - scrubs simply aren't allowed into the veteran company, and you have to have proven yourself as one of the most badassed badass that ever badassed down badass street to even get a chance of a glimmer of a hope of wearing one of the few termie suits that are left in any given chapter. They're all bionic'd to the gills, have reflexes that would make a ninja look like a drunk sloth and are accurate enough to skullfuck a mosquito from orbit with a pellet gun, basically. In turn, the termie helmet itself is full of targeting aids and target ID and crap. Yet these guys *still* miss 40% of the time while firing down a bloody hallway - because they're actually firing in pitch darkness at sleeky, slinky thinks that move ungodly fast while clinging to the walls and/or ducking in and out of airvents, also are really fucking scary because they'll have your guts on the floor in the next 0.115 seconds if you don't kill them stone dead right just this instant. Oh, and for everyone that gets gibbed, three more take its place. What do you reckon the odds of Joe Average Guardsman (and his sanity) are in this scenario ? TL;DR it's not that termies are bad, it's that the conditions they're fighting in are really fucking awful (also stacked against anything *not* Tyranid).

** Another thing to keep in mind is that 1000 marines is the strength of the ten line companies (10 squads, each with 10 men). It doesn't include command staff and specialists (e.g. Captains, Techmarines, Apothecaries, Chaplains etc.), the chapter masters's Honour Guard, fleet officers, crews etc., the total number of marines per chapter is closer to 1200-1300.

** A friend who's been playing [=40K=] since Rogue Trader explained it like this: Assuming the Imperium has an actual reason to board a Space Hulk (which the Blood Angels don't, they're stuck in an HonorBeforeReason scenario) you need to scout the Space Hulk first to figure out which rooms still have atmosphere and which don't, as well as which sections are and are not filed with deadly radiation. For Guardsmen this is tricky, but Space Marine armor conveniently has radiation shielding and self-contained atmosphere. Long story short, if you want a better example of how Space Hulk boardings are usually done, check out Death of Integrity.

** The Literature/CiaphasCain novel The Emperor's Finest involves a force from the Reclaimers (a MeaningfulName due to their focus on recovering LostTechnology) chapter doing a Space Hulk boarding mission (which Cain gets roped into going along with). They actually do employ a large number of cheap servitors or very simple bots which they deploy into the Space Hulk before any human boarding takes place. The purpose of these servitors is not to fight, but rather to map the interior and give the Space Marines and idea of what the internal layout of the place is, where they should focus their intensive scans from the ship, and what objectives they might achieve by boarding. Sure some of the servitors could get scrapped in the process, but they reason that is a small price to pay for locating any sources of hostility they can then decide to either make a concerted effort to destroy or avoid. [[spoiler: They did not count on genestealers being clever enough to avoid them instead of attacking on sight though, until more suitable hosts present themselves.]]

**** GameplayAndStorySegregation. According to the fluff Terminator armor was originally designed for use in boarding actions and is significantly tougher than power armor. Additionally while marines in power armor can carry storm bolters now back when the first SpaceHulk was originally made the fluff stated that storm bolters were only usable by terminators which would mean that the terminators did have a pretty significant firepower advantage over power armored marines. Finally going by the fluff (and the rules for the full game) Terminators should be a LOT tougher in melee against genestealers than they are in Space Hulk. The melee rules for Space hulk are designed to favor the 'stealers to make for a more interesting game.

**** A lasgun would be even worse (and by my calculations the Storm Bolter hits 55.56% of the time).

** And there's always one detail that needs to be accounted for: 40k's minimum IdiotBall quotient. Each faction must always be throwing some caution to the wind in order to make the conflict happen, similar to the AnthropicPrinciple. In this case, the Blood Angels have literally no reason to set foot on the Sin of Damnation the second time except to avenge their own pride, rather than actually protect anyone or anything.

*** In game a good 4 times out of 6 the bolters will miss unless the player has luck dripping off their head, that is bad accuracy.

** "Storm bolters are innacurate"? What?! At their respective effective ranges, storm bolters and lasguns are practically identical as far as user handling goes (interface with helmet's HUD, very low recoil, box magazines). One just has explosive rounds.
