* Does the film give any indication in-universe that Ferngully is the actual last rainforest or is it merely a case of being TheLastTitle?

* How small are those seeds if fairies can hold them between their fingers?
** Orchid seed. Incredibly small seeds from a tropical plant.
* When Tony and Ralph hear Hexxus' voice over the intercom, shouldn't they know if their foreman sounds like a British guy? And they don't seem concerned with toxic fumes coming out of the speaker, either.
** Well, they ''are'' idiots. Or, perhaps Hexxus and their boss share similar voices, at least coming from the speaker. Hexxus ''does'' sound like your typical greedy corporate boss.

* Related to the above, how practical was the Leveler, exactly? Even from the purely pragmatic perspective of someone running a logging company, it's hard to picture how such a massive, cumbersome machine could do the job more efficiently than a fleet of bulldozers and feller-bunchers. And that's not even getting into the issue of transporting the thing from one job site to another.

** Accessibility. A lot of animated movies in the 90s had this issue eg. ''Anastacia'' and ''Aladdin''. Studios didn't have much faith in the ability of American children to connect with non-Americans so they didn't bother with foreign accents unless the character was a villain or comic relief.

* If Ferngully like the title suggests is the “last rainforest” then why would loggers be allowed anywhere near it? Surely it would be under heavy protection/conservation if there are no other rainforests left on earth.

*** Not the first time dark things were put into a family film. Animal testing is often pointlessly cruel. Experiments are carried out to test things or to find cures, but often don’t amount to anything except needless suffering of animals and dead-end research. Science doesn’t need many reasons to experiment. Doesn’t matter if it leads to anything or not. The scientific process requires vast experimentation after all. If someday a cure for cancer could be discovered at the expensive of millions of animals, even if many experiments don’t lead anywhere, and since humans didn’t have to be tested on, it’s worth it in some eyes. No matter how cruel.

*** If Hexxus is considered a metaphor for global warming then everything fits naturally into place. The threat of massive disruption to the ecosystem will always be there, but the fairies exist to combat and thus balance it. It's the human influence of releasing Hexxus before he would normally break free (remember the Magi is teaching Crysta of him for a reason even if her opinion is that it's an even unlikely to occur again) and giving him a massive power boost with their pollution and deforestation.

The world does go through natural periods of climate change, but humans are accelerating and exacerbating the problem.

** It's possible that he can't be killed in any permanent sense. If his physical form burned out in that moment, he would presumably regroup from the carbon emissions left by the wildlife and strike again, and with a sizable chunk of the rainforest gone, he wouldn't have to worry about any trees neutralising his power source.

*** Also, Magi says at one point that she's powerless against forces outside of nature. Scientific experiments could easily fit that criteria.

** Also, Ferngully is a rainforest. Does Australia even have rainforests? The opening music to me sounds more like samba, so shouldn't this movie actually take place in Brazil?
