** Checking the paintings near the beginning of the game reveals Ib ''does'' know the word "death" and she recognizes blood on the floor in the area where Garry's rose is found. This means Ib may be subconsciously aware that Garry isn't simply "sleeping", but she's convincing herself otherwise because she doesn't want to consider the alternative.

** On that topic, imagine the betrayal Mary must have felt in her last moments after seeing Ib light her painting on fire. Yes, Ib did it out of self-defense since Mary was trying to kill her, but it's shown that Mary genuinely liked and trusted Ib, and she only lashed out and tried attacking her when she went somewhere Mary didn't want her to. And assuming that Ib remembers what happens after she escapes, she'll have to live on knowing that she killed one of her friends out of necessity, while the other died to save her.

* If Ib is on the route to the "Together Forever" ending, why does the gallery still attempt to kill her in the bonus dungeon (including attempting to trick her into sleeping on the bed)? Because at this point, Mary is extremely close to achieving her goal, and she just needs Ib to show her the exit so she can leave. It's likely the gallery is punishing Ib for wandering off instead of going straight to the exit painting and leading Mary to the real world. This also calls back to Ib's mother's warning at the beginning of the game to not go wandering off: because the gallery gets angry and attempts to kill her if she does.

** Ib and Mary come across a storage room with nothing of interest aside from a pallet knife, which Mary takes. It's highly likely that the gallery knew Mary had already made up her mind on who she wanted to leave with, so it gave her the knife to get rid of her competition, and that Ib wouldn't question her having it due to her age.

* When first meeting Mary, there's a few hints that something's up:
** Garry can be found in the gallery at the beginning of the game (although he won't say anything if Ib tries talking to him) but Mary is nowhere to be seen. This is an early hint that Mary isn't actually one of the gallery's patrons; she's part of it herself.
** Mary notably doesn't actually give an answer to Garry's question about being one of the people from the gallery like him and Ib. Garry quickly changes the subject by asking her to join them, but there's a reason why Mary struggled to come up with an answer: because she didn't have one.
** Ib and Garry quite literally run into Mary after walking through a door. Said door appears almost immediately after Garry takes out his lighter, thus alerting the gallery to it. It's highly likely the gallery intentionally led Mary to the two after it saw they were carrying a fire-starting tool, hence why she was in such a hurry. The reason why Mary was so caught off guard was because Ib and Garry went through the door earlier than expected, or she wasn't expecting the culprits to be an adult male and a little girl like herself.
** Mary is the only one of the main characters to have her own theme, which automatically indicates that she's important. She is-- she's the BigBad.
** Going back and attempting to look at the mirror with Mary in your party causes the mirror to shatter. As a painting, Mary doesn't have a reflection, so the gallery deliberately broke the mirror to prevent Ib and Garry from seeing that.
** Mary may make a comment that she never ran into any artworks that attempted to kill her, and gets visibly confused when Garry brings it up. Being part of the gallery itself, Mary never knew any of the other works as malicious because they were all friendly to each other. This is also why there's no enemies in Ib and Mary's section of the brown area: the gallery was letting Mary pass, and she wanted to leave with Ib, so it left them alone.

* More so FridgeSadness, but the "Forgotten Portrait" ending requires Ib to go back and grab Garry's lighter off of his corpse then use it to kill Mary, since she freaks out and attempts to kill Ib after she goes upstairs to her painting. If Ib doesn't grab the lighter or doesn't make the correct choice in burning the painting, Mary stabs her to death. But here's the thing: Ib didn't know Mary's painting was even up there, or that burning it would kill her. So Ib essentially got killed just for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And while we don't see the aftermath due to the game over screen, imagine how Mary must have reacted once she calmed down and realized she just murdered the first real friend she'd ever had.

** Both of these events take place after Mary's painting is burned, thus killing her. Considering how the gallery reacts when Garry damages the artworks, it's easy to guess it must have been ''furious'' at Ib for killing one of their own. Heck, in regards to the fake Garry, he actually ''sprints'' at Ib and attempts to grab her if she chooses to ignore him and jump into the painting. This indicates something ''very'' bad is in store for Ib if she chooses to follow the fake doppelganger...

Added DiffLines:

*** It's unknown if this is truly the case, because Garry will refuse to leave the room and insist Ib investigate the area with Mary's painting if he's still alive. So if all three characters could have indeed survived, that means Mary was killed simply because Garry insisted they look around, and by the time they stumble upon Mary's painting, they're left with no choice but to kill her.

* "Puppet", Mary's theme, is the only song in the game in the MIDI format. Since the songs of this format are sequences played in real time with a limited soundbank, it appears to sound more artificial than the rest of the soundtrack.

** As a pale imitation of a small child, she suffers from BlueAndOrangeMorality, is very immature & somewhat lacking in basic knowledge about the real world, and her sanity is fragile at best; she can snap and threaten Garry with her knife. This might look like she hates him, but if she doesn't Edit lock expires in 19:59snap and threaten Garry, she'll snap and threaten ''Ib'' instead. And we know that she sees Ib as her first real friend, so the {{Ax Craz|y}}iness probably isn't as telling as it seems.

** While red, blue, and yellow are famously known to be the primary colours of pigment, the primary colours of light are red, blue, and green ,which are reflected by either the stems of the roses or the way Mary's dress is green. Though Mary's yellow rose is the odd one out, she is still trying to appear like she belongs.

* After Garry attempts using the lighter in the seperation room, the walls and floor are covered with messages. Most read "NONONO" or "DON'T"... however, one in the corner appears to read "Don't kick me".

* People whose roses are injured in the painting world are wounded. But when Ib finds Garry after Mary finishes plucking his rose, she comments that he looks like he's just sleeping. Ib is known to hallucinate. Wanna bet she subconsciously censored [[{{Gorn}} what actually happened to Garry?]]

small fix

* The Painting Ladies become "enamored" witi any humans and chase them relentlessly because they enjoy playing "loves me, loves me not" with roses and ''know'' that ''every human has a rose''. This is proven by the fact, that every encounter with them is fatal as they pluck your rose's petals and indeed you find one Lady playing with Garry's rose. She had no reason to bother him any longer once she got her hands on his rose. That's just how much of a scum they are.
