* The novel also answers this directly. Human transportation by air and sea would lead to containment breaches. All it would take is a few ant-sized infants of some Henders organisms hitching a ride on a boat or landing gear of a plan, be it by some oversight or the driver trying to flee in a panic and not realizing they have hitchhikers. We already have a lot of trouble containing invasive insects like fire ants, so one way or another it would go wrong. In essence, our own panic and transportation would cause humanity to be [[HoistByHisOwnPetard done in by themselves]].

** Boats and airplanes? Many continents also have land bridges so if one outbreak occurred in Europe, it could spread to Asia and Africa. If one happened in North America it could spread to South America. The only widely inhabited continent not touching another continent and surrounded by water is Australia.

FridgeLogic: It's said that if any of the lifeforms from the island were to escape, all life on every continent would be wiped out. Yet it's also said that isolated islands would be spared because Henders lifeforms are weak to saltwater, which raises the question of how they would spread beyond one continent.
