** There's actually a very simple explanation: using gold means those rockets only need a single, ''highly stable'' fuel source. Yes, gold is more expensive than a similar quantity of fuel, but the unusual cost pays for itself by ''completely erasing the need for the far more expensive and time-consuming logistics involved with other rocket fuels.'' In fact, these savings are probably how Scrooge was able to send a whole search team up in the first place, and for years at that.

* As for the dangerously toxic lunar regolith issue, that's the easiest thing to resolve. Looking closely, Della only wears her goggles when she's not on the crater floor or the Spear of Selene; that regolith's either been pulverized into a grit fine enough that it's harmless, or it's in large enough pieces that it doesn't fly up high enough to harm her.

** If you take it as a deliberate effort on the part of the animation staff, the fact that it's animated as Della kicking up ''dust clouds'' when she pushes off of the lunar soil, is part of this. Video of the Apollo astronauts shows it to look more like clumps of beach sand, compacted by its own weight but not eroded to the fineness of dust, staying in the "air" for an unintuitively long time before landing.
** Plus, Della has a scarf.

** There is actually a shard of metal next to her, conveniently hand-sized and sharp-looking. Brr...

to:

* Because of how physics work, the material the Spear of Selene is made out of would have to be extremely efficient at radiating heat. It'd be very much like Gyro to have invented literal cold iron.

** Gyro's explaination in his notes beyond it not being something evil (yet) is that Scrooge has a lot of it. Which sounds dumb, but actually would be very useful as far as keeping it in [=McDuck=] Enterprise's control since it's experimental and dangerous technology. Fueling it by gold means that only the richest duck in the world could reliably power them. Well as far as anyone on Earth knew anyway.

** The easiest way to make this happen is for Planet Moon to be ''considerably'' denser than ours, while also closer to Earth and smaller to keep the tides working. This would explain why Della (and later Eagle One) is able to get there so quickly, and why Tranquility seems to be city-sized... but the size of Earth in the moon sky is approximately what it ought to be in the real world (cf. "Earthrise") so this doesn't seem to be the case.

** (Granted, since Selene is an actual being in this world, she may have had something to do with it. Unsatisfying, but better than a bare bulb.)

Added DiffLines:

* The moon ''does'' have an "atmosphere" in real life, but it's so thin that it's only an atmosphere compared to the vacuum of space; essentially, it lacks the mass necessary to keep gasses from floating away. The Planet Moon clearly ''has'' something resembling a proper atmosphere, thinner than Earth's though similar enough for the Moonlanders to invade it - but in order for that to happen it'd have to be a very different body.

* The reason Della was screaming out the iconic Moon Theme when she went full LeeroyJenkins and attempted to jump off the moon's gravity: it's the lullaby she used to sing to her kids. The tune reminds her of them and steels her determination in order to get back to them. [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome Not that it helps her much in that case]].

Added DiffLines:

* The second half of the episode comes about when Della realizes she had a gold filling in her mouth the whole time. How did she not realize it was there during the ten years she spent on the moon chewing Gyro's [=OxyChew=]? Also, given the Moon Mite can sense gold, how did it not detect it inside her mouth?

* The Moon Mite is revealed to be stealing metal because [[MonsterIsAMommy she's trying to keep her baby fed]]. The city of the Moon Planet inhabitants is filled with gold, the Moon Mites' preferred food. Since the Moon Planet cops have been actively hunting the Moon Mite, she probably wasn't able to forage for food properly, meaning that she (or worse, [[AdultFear her baby]]) could have starved to death.
