* SimpleYetAwesome: Sly's cane is not only iconic, but it earns its keep as the ultimate thieving tool. It's durable be used to bludgeon people, rocks and solid steel, strong enough to hold Sly's weight as he swings from hooks with it, it can pick pockets and locks, it can carry smoke bombs and is even used as the key for the Cooper Vault, Dr. M's attempts to replicate it for such purposes failing at every turn.

* RidiculouslyLonglivedFamilyName: The Cooper Clan are a family of raccoons who were all fves, making their living stealing from less honorable criminal elements. Their family have lived and traveled across every corner of the Earth, detailing their techniques and accomplishments in a book named the Thievius Raccoonus. Their earliest known ancestor who made the book was Slytunkhamen Cooper I, a thief who stole from corrupt noblemen as early as 1350 BC in AncientEgypt. [[spoiler:Thieves in Time would reveal that the Coopers have been thieves as early as 10,000 BC, a Prehistoric raccoon named "Bob" Cooper having been an egg thief for his clan in the Stone Age.]]

* SuperDrowningSkills: Sly can't swim in the first game and drowns if he falls into water with no Horseshoes, even though raccoons in RealLife can swim quite well. There is a skill from the Thievius Raccoonus that lets you avoid taking damage from water, but it still doesn't teach Sly how to swim. He then forgets about this skill in the second and third games, only to relearn it (along with the other playable characters) upon cracking the (optional) vault in Chapter 4 of the fourth game. Additionally, Murray is a hippo who can't swim (except in a cutscene) and Bentley is a turtle who can't swim.Murray has a excuse, since hippos, contrary to popular belief, can't actually swim. None of the mooks are able to swim either, drowning as soon as they enter the water.

** In the first game, most of the mooks could be taken down in one blow. From the second game on, aside from being the victim of a sneak attack, most foes took at least three or more blows.
* TopHeavyGuy: Muggshot, to the point of self parody. His arms are absolutely colossal pillars of muscle and he walks using hands that are each as big as his whole lower body. His design in the "Timing is Everything" short is slightly less ridiculous, where he simply has comically exaggerated human proportions.
