Added DiffLines:

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Larry loves doughnuts. He always brings a box to every meeting.

Added DiffLines:

* CompanionCube: Carmen, Larry's computer that gives him data on stock trades. He talks about it, and to it, like it's a real woman, even reaching over and touching it like a wife after he wakes up one morning.

Added DiffLines:

* MaybeEverAfter: At the end of the film, Larry and Kate arrange to meet to discuss her proposal. Kate insists on a formal business lunch, which Larry prepares for as a date. There's no confirmation something will happen but she's still clearly charmed by him so it's possible.

Added DiffLines:

* WasItReallyWorthIt: After he wins the vote, Larry watches Kate leave sadly and goes home depressed, clearly thinking this trope as he sadly tells Carmen that they won again.

Added DiffLines:

* TakeAThirdOption: Jorgy insists that the company will be profitable again when demand for infrastructure repair increases. Larry believes demand will never increase because wire and cable was rendered obsolete by fiber-optics and liquidating the company is the only responsible course of action. In the end, Kate convinces Larry that the company can be profitable by telling him that wire and cable can be used to make airbags.

* ObsoleteOccupation: Discussed. "You know, at one time there must've been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best goddamn buggy whip you ever saw."

* AntiVillain: Andrew " Jorgy" Jorgenson. If Larry is a reconstruction of the CorruptCorporateExecutive, then Jorgy is a deconstruction of the HonestCorporateExecutive; effectively making Jorgy the George Bailey to Larry's Mr. Potter.

Added DiffLines:

* DetrimentalDetermination: By sticking to an archaic and ineffective set of values, Jorgy makes it nearly impossible for his step-daughter and attorney to do her job, and loses control of his company.

* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: Downplayed. Bill Coles only gets half of the million dollars he was promised for his company shares. On the other hand, he at least has a bit of cold comfort for his conscience in the knowledge his vote wouldn't have made a difference in the end anyway.

** He's also notable in that he is completely honest with his intentions and actions, and much like Jorgy doesn't compromise his integrity to get what he wants. He's a corporate raider, but he's an honest corporate raider. OF course, part of that may be due to the fact that the wire and cable company's situation is so bad that he doesn't need to lie to get what he wants.

* VillainsNeverLie: As much as Larry Garfield can be considered a villain, at least, but he is notable for being completely honest and forthright with his intentions and his actions, and avoiding any truly ruthless or underhanded methods when it comes to getting what he wants.

* InformedWrongness: Garfield is only evil because other characters tell us he is. He is never shown doing anything illegal, and he genuinely believes those who might be hurt by his actions will be better off in the end. He is certainly no Henry Kravis or Gordon Gekko, even with his shareholder speech that sounds similar to the latter.

* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: Downplayed.

* WTHCastingAgency: The source material is a screwball comedy where two people on opposite sides of a corporate case fall for one another. It's a little harder to pull off a convincing love relationship with a plus-sized bald, older man and Penelope Anne Miller.
