The film tells the story of Aydin (Haluk Bilginer), an educated and wealthy former actor, who some years earlier left Istanbul to settle in Cappadocia with Nihal (Melisa Sozen), his much younger wife. The couple lead a relatively secluded life, managing a small hotel, where Aydin's intellectual but bitter sister often joins them as a guest. Kış Uykusu is a 2014 film by Creator/NuriBilgeCeylan. Its English title is Winter Sleep. It narrates the story of Aydin, a formerly successful actress who left Istanbul and arrived to Anatolia with his much younger wife. His intellectual sister also joined them. Aidan leads a relatively secluded life, managing a small hotel.

His younger wife Nihal meanwhile is not in love with him and tries to find herself in charity helping the impoverished locals. It does not go well with Aidan who doesn't see any sense in that help and berates the wife.

Aidan also has several long dialogues with his sister Necla where they bitterly bicker against each other.
