* FrothyMugsOfWater: Hit-Girl used an adrenaline shot that re-energizes her for a HeroicSecondWind against Mother Russia. Compare this to the comic book version of Hit-Girl, who snorted '''cocaine''' for a similar situation.

* BigBadWannabe: Uncle D'Amico tries to invoke this to get the Motherfucker to lay low. He's in prison, but the warden's a friend, and he pretty effortlessly has [[spoiler:Javier]]'s throat slit. [[KickTheDog While it plays over the phone.]] Still, it only seems to [[LetsGetDangerous harden his resolve.]]

* KickTheDog: [[spoiler:The Motherfucker ordering Dave's father killed and sending a picture of his murder to him]]. Notably, though, he refuses to kill [[spoiler:Eisenhower, the Colonel's dog]].

* {{Hypocrite}}: Katie is furious at Dave's alleged cheating (which he wasn't) despite the fact that she has been cheating on him for some time.

* MoralMyopia: Katie is furious when she thinks Dave is cheating on her with Mindy, and dumps him, despite the fact that she has been cheating on him for some time herself, which she shows no remorse for.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Mindy vs. Brooke and her posse.

** Katie, unfortunately. Though this ''does'' have the benefit of putting her in-line with her comic counterpart's personality. Though her quick disassociation with Dave probably helps spare her from her fate from the comics.
** Dave took a level or two himself, but mercifully snaps out of it towards the end.

* TimeSkip: Mindy and Dave are now 15 and 18 (nearly 19) respectively -- due to Creator/ChloeGraceMoretz' [[{{Understatement}} obvious aging]] between films.

* AndYourLittleDogToo: Averted. The Motherfucker specifically refuses to kill Col. Stars-and-Stripes' dog, saying he was "not ''that'' evil." In the comics, he actually ''did'' have the dog killed.

* BlackDudeDiesFirst:
** Averted quite awesomely. The most prominent superhero of color, Doctor Gravity, survives the length of the film (how much longer than that depends on if he can control his AxCrazy AscendedFanboy tendencies.)
** Big Daddy's ex-partner Marcus also escapes death, [[spoiler: but for aiding and abetting Hit-Girl, he will likely go to prison.]]
** In the context of [[spoiler:the final battle, Black Death being Hit-Girl's first fatality arguably counts.]]

* OneSteveLimit: Referenced in-universe by Javier when Motherfucker gave Olga the name Mother Russia. Ultimately averted when Motherfucker decided to keep her name intact, resulting in two "Mother"s in their team.

* DarkerAndEdgier: [[invoked]]
** Chris D'Amico ditches the [[EvilCostumeSwitch orange version of the Red Mist suit seen at the end of the first film]] and adopts a new costume that is literally bondage gear while rechristening himself "The Motherfucker".

* PoliceAreUseless: It's hard to really empathize with Marcus' desire to see Mindy lead a normal life when you realize just how useless the police are. They're either completely corrupted or just [[IdiotBall plain incompetent]]. By taking Hit-Girl off the streets, he's indirectly responsible for several deaths. In fairness to the police, they are more used to average criminals than the antics of those who have styled themselves as supervillains, and on their part do put up what seems to be a pretty even fight with [[spoiler:The Motherfucker's goons at Dave's dad's funeral]] only armed with Glock 17s, while [[spoiler:The Motherfucker's goons]] use fully-automatic AK-47s and [[spoiler:Genghis Carnage]] uses a Penn Arms PGL-65. When Dave sends a message to "all superheroes in the city" giving the address of the villains' lair the police fail to notice. The only time they get completely [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomped]] is when they fight against [[HuskyRusskie Mother Russia]], a former member of the KGB who is an even better fighter than Hit-Girl.

* ADateWithRosiePalms:
** Dave's father thinks he's doing this when he's trying to put his long-unused Kick-Ass costume on since the zipper's stuck and he attempts to jiggle it up and down.
** When he is about to rape [[spoiler:Night Bitch]], The Motherfucker realizes he can't get a hard-on, so he tries to remedy this problem manually.

* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Subverted. Sure, Motherfucker tries to rape [[spoiler:Night Bitch, but he can't get an erection. Cue a few seconds of awkwardly masturbating into his cape, before just giving up entirely.]]

* BareYourMidriff: Night Bitch and Mother Russia.

* ZeroChops: Not even training by the [[RedBaron "Ice Man"]] Chuck Liddell can keep Chris from flopping around like an idiot.

* GoodPeopleHaveGoodSex: Textbook example. Kick-Ass and Night Bitch are shown to have pleasurable sex, contrast this with the Motherfucker who's impotent and can't even rape Night Bitch. And at the end [[spoiler: the Motherfucker suffers a CripplingCastration.]]

* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Battle Guy's WeaponOfChoice.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Katie is furious at Dave's alleged cheating (which he wasn’t) despite the fact that she has been cheating on him for some time.

* HollywoodLaw: The police "detain" all masked superheroes in New York City, but most aren't shown committing any crimes. Dave's dad even explicitly says he has to be released because of this. In reality, the cops would not do this because it could result in the city being sued for false arrest, which might cost millions. The Justice Forever members also say they're "on parole" in the funeral scene after their release, though there it may be a joke.

* AdultFear:
** Marcus is hit with this hard on finding out that Mindy hasn't given up being Hit-Girl. He has to blackmail her into giving it up, and has his hands full with helping her get a moral life.
** Dave also CantStayNormal, and gives up his happy, safe and boring life with Katie to train with Mindy. And he nearly gets killed because of her training, while Katie leaves him. [[spoiler:When his father finds out, his dad says he was hoping it was drugs, and then later claims to be Kick-Ass when the police come.]]
** Remembering Tommy named themselves for their young son, who was kidnapped and killed.

* RealityEnsues: Much in keeping with the comic book, the movie highlights why exactly superheroes don't exist in real life. Turns out the police don't much appreciate vigilantes trying to do their jobs for them. [[spoiler:Also, a domino mask is a terrible disguise, as Nightbitch found out to her dismay. The Motherfucker is able to track her down via "not-facebook" once he saw a picture of her real face.]]

* PosthumousCharacter: [[spoiler:Big Daddy]], after his death in the first movie. Sure, he never shows up, but there's lots of lingering shots of his portrait, and his armor. [[spoiler:In the final fight, Kick-Ass wears Big Daddy's armor.]]

* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Because Lyndsey Fonseca was busy filming ''Series/{{Nikita}}'', she was demoted to extra after being the lead love interest in the previous film, appearing in just a single brief scene where she dumps Dave. Her character is also changed to be completely unsympathetic (in sharp contrast to her sweet persona in the first film), so audiences (and Dave) don't miss her absence.

Meanwhile, Chris D'Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is still seeking revenge on Kick-Ass for the death of his father, and suddenly finds himself in a position to do something about it.

* TimeSkip: Mindy and Dave are now 15 and 18 (nearly 19) respectively -- due to Creator/ChloeMoretz' [[{{Understatement}} obvious aging]] between films.

It's three years after Dave Lizewski (Creator/AaronJohnson) hung up his tights as Kick-Ass, and 15-year old Mindy [=McCready=] (Creator/ChloeMoretz) is starting highschool at Dave's school...in theory. In reality, whilst Mindy's guardian is trying to give her a normal life, she's skipping school every day to train and fight criminals as Hit-Girl. Dave, bored with his life after retiring from superheroics, begs her to take him on as a sidekick. After Dave gets back in the tights, he soon learns that he and Hit-Girl are no longer the only costumed vigilantes in New York, and joins Justice Forever, a group of like-minded individuals led by Colonel Stars-and-Stripes (Creator/JimCarrey).
