* ArousedByIdiocy: This trope is invoked by Matty as she tries to seduce AmoralAttorney Ned so he [[spoiler:kills her husband]]:

* HollywoodLaw: In the film, Maddie exploits a [[LoopholeAbuse loophole]] in Florida law by forging Edmund's will in such a way that it violates the rule against perpetuities and is rendered null and void, "as if there were no will at all", which automatically leaves Maddie with the entire estate. It wouldn't quite work this way in reality on account that Edmund had already made a previous will. In Florida, while a later-executed valid will or codicil supersedes any previous will, it doesn't necessarily revoke that previous will. A probate court would attempt to reconcile the wills to the extent possible, and only sections of the previous will that could not be reconciled with the new will would be considered revoked. The ultimate outcome would be a hybrid of the original will and the later will.
