** When Asgardians visited Earth, they apparently thought fairies were interesting wildlife. And they loved hunting... It's even speculated that many of fairykind's worst tales about human atrocities were committed by [[HumanAliens Asgardians]] instead.

This triggers an ExplainExplainOhCrap moment from Coulson.

A lot has changed in the 3 years Artemis had been missing from reality. For one, he is now a big brother. For another, there has been a rise in so called "superheroes" and "supervillains". But the most important change is that his trading of eyes with Holly has turned him into a changeling, thus making him one of the People and unlocking latent magical potential, as well as binding him to their laws.

When suspicious cargo is discovered on a Fowl Enterprises ship, the Avengers invite Artemis Fowl Sr. and his son to Avengers Tower in order to request Fowl Sr's assistance and keep an eye on Artemis due to a variety of reasons.

* HybridOverkillAvoidance: Many original generation changelings died because they didn't survive the reactions of their immune systems to the new cellular/genetic material, which is why Artemis and Holly were treated immediately after it became clear what happened to help their bodies adapt. Humans of changeling descent are more common than the fairy equivalent simply because even if an immune reaction occurred, the humans had better chances of reproducing before the rejection killed them, thus passing on the hybrid cells if the right bits got switched.

!!Tropes:
* AndroidsArePeopleToo: Artemis's opinion of Jarvis, considering both the fact that he can be negotiated with, and the fact that hacking into a system he inhabits counts as trespassing to fairy magic.
* AuraVision: Human magic users tend to sense magic visually, in contrast to the fairy technique of feeling it. This is part of why human magic users were relatively unknown to modern fairies, the former could ''see the latter coming'', especially since most fairies on the surface are either performing the Ritual or Recon officers, who are supposed to be full on magic.
* BatmanGambit:
** Artemis does one to trick Tony into giving an invitation for an elf, dwarf or centaur access to the Tower.
** [[spoiler: Opal's plan was to plant a bio-bomb hidden amidst Stark weapons on a Fowl family ship, framing Artemis Fowl Senior and drawing Artemis in by having Doom make it look like he was interested, with the bomb having a sensor that would have caused it to go off when it was done in the desalination tank]].
* {{Blackmail}}: Artemis blackmails Jarvis for privacy by pointing out that he could get Coulson in legal trouble for sharing classified files with him.
* ColorCodedWizardry: It appears that human magic tends to take the form of gold sparks in contrast to the People's blue sparks. Artemis, as a changeling, has a mix of both.
* DemonicPossession: The Avengers Tower is being plagued with incidents of magical possession during the events of the story, as part of [[spoiler: Opal Koboi's plan]].
* DoubleMeaning: Artemis, after learning how human magic sparks are usually gold, wonders if the Fowl family motto "Aurum Potestas Est" (Gold is Power) has another meaning besides talking about literal gold.
* ExactWords:
** Artemis's mother unwittingly gives Artemis a fairy geas command to go to his room and not say another word. Artemis gets around it by texting Butler in chat slang, which isn't technically words.
** Coulson gives Artemis files on the situation with the ship without specifying that they are classified S.H.I.E.L.D. documents, saying that "this is what we know". Artemis later uses this to blackmail Jarvis when it's discovered that he transmitted said files to a third party.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap:
** When Jarvis lets slip that the files Coulson let Artemis look at and that Artemis then broadcasted to a third party (Foaly), were classified, he realizes that he goofed at Artemis's expression, with "Moriarty Junior", as Tony calls him, using that info to blackmail the AI.
** This is Coulson's reaction to Steve's GladHesOnOurSide moment, and everyone's when Jarvis can't find them.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Artemis and Holly missed some interesting developments in the three years that they were away, like the Chitauri invasion.
* FixFic: This fic has Butler question Artemis using the mesmer on his parents, as well as Artemis getting treatment for his mental issues in time to avoid developing an Atlantis Complex, and the potential medical issues of the mixed-up body parts being addressed.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** There are a few hints that the [[spoiler: pens]] are the vectors for the possessions before it's revealed.
** There's also a hint or two regarding [[spoiler: Opal and Doom's plan and that they were working together, like how the Doombots attacked ''right'' as Artemis arrived at the Tower, and the bike messenger trying to upload malware at the same time, or Pepper's description of Opal's ego]].
** Hawkeye and Artemis's talk about how intent would affect magic, and thus his arrows might penetrate a magical barrier that bullets couldn't [[spoiler: ties into the battle, where Hawkeye manages to break through Doom's shield]].
* ForWantOfANail: The main deviation here is Butler questioning the wisdom of Artemis using the mesmer on his parents.
* FrameUp: [[spoiler: Opal had Doom put weapons on a sunken Fowl ship in order to frame Artemis's father and lure him to New York]].
* GladHesOnOurSide:
** Coulson says this about Jarvis early on when talking about Artemis.
** After the possing entity tries to take control of Pepper before she fights it off, and they realize that it was using [[spoiler: the sign-in sheet for the Tower (or more specifically, the pen)]] as a vector for gaining "permission", Steve comments on how it's a good thing that Artemis isn't doing this, noting how easily he had tricked Tony into inviting his fairy friends into the Tower, and that if he ''was'' behind this, they'd have already been kicked to the curb wondering what the heck had happened while the Tower got bulldozed. This triggers an ExplainExplainOhCrap moment from Coulson.
* GoldColoredSuperiority: Human magic is gold-colored compared to the fairy blue. The possible connection to the Fowl family motto "Aurum Potestas Est" (Gold is Power) has not escaped Artemis.
* HybridPower:
** Holly's new immune system is more resilient to radiation than is normal for an elf, especially useful for her frequent surface trips.
** Artemis can use both fairy and human magical techniques and sources of energy.
** This is also inverted with some changelings, including, very likely, Artemis's mother.
** [[spoiler: The ending implies that Opal managed to escape prison by using the artificial human pituitary gland she implanted into herself to mimic the ability of human magic users to tap into each other's magic to access the magic of her visitors]].
* InTheBlood: Besides Artemis's changeling ancestry being a factor, it's implied that Artemis has a natural talent/draw to magic due to having a human magic user as an ancestor.
* JediMindTrick: Artemis uses a variation of this on Jarvis, with it even being name-dropped when it's discovered. It largely worked because Jarvis was distracted by Pepper's attempted possession.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Artemis's father is this to his mother.
* MetaOrigin: It's hinted that mutants, and some other humans with powers, like the Hulk, are the result of changeling inheritance (the Hulk is compared in the final chapter to Cú Chulainn, a historical demon-blooded changeling, and in general to how demons go through warping instead of extended puberty).
* PowerParasite: Human magic users can apparently share their unused energy with each other, which [[spoiler: Opal managed to apparently use to recharge her magic and escape by sucking magic from fairy hippies who visited her in prison]].
* TeleporterAccident: How changelings are made, teleportation spells that went wrong and ended up switching bits of the human and fairies involved, sometimes even on a genetic level that can be inherited.
* UnevenHybrid: There are humans that have fairy genes all over the place, ''especially'' in Ireland, where there was more contact between the races and thus more chances for a TeleporterAccident to occur. There are fairies with human genetics too, but it's rarer due to humans simply having better chances of reproducing and possibly passing the fairy genetics to the next generation regardless of rejection issues potentially killing them. It seems likely that Artemis has elven changeling ancestry on ''both'' sides of the family tree, which is why he and Holly came out of it so well since Artemis being part elf already meant that their immune systems didn't have to go as far adapting to the new tissues.
** There are also some theories that mutants and the like might be the result of fairy ancestry, with the Hulk (and the Abomination) being likened to a demon's warp spasm.
* VillainTeamUp: The plot of the episode turns out to have been spurred by [[spoiler: Opal and Doom]] working together to take out Artemis and the Avengers.
