* AdaptationalVillainy: Sam from I-Island was greedy in canon, but here it is more extreme. Here, he also has a desire for glory, and a feeling that after having worked for David Shield for six years on a project which was now to be discarded would ruin his career.

** Zigzagged when Momo uses a flamethrower. When she first uses it against the USJ Noumu, she burns herself when as she didn't cover herself with fireproof material. Later she designs her materials with fire-proofing in mind so she will not suffer the slightest inconvenience from it.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: In an omake for Chapter 13, Izuku decides to test the implied consequences for simply teleporting to the end of the first event at the Sports Festival. The teachers all cringe as they realize they really should have explicitly banned pulling a DungeonBypass rather than just imply it. [[spoiler:It turns out that the second event begins as soon as someone finishes the first]].

* EveryoneHasStandards: For all that Vlad King himself gets quite competitive with Eraserhead's class, even he is upset with Monoma for taking class rivalry too far by focusing on it in the middle of a life or death situation like the USJ Attack.

* ForWantOfANail:
** All for One modifies Tomura's plans for the USJ Attack, telling him to start with killing the students to break All Might, ''then'' kill the Symbol of Peace himself. The end result is that the stakes are a lot higher for the students with several coming close to death and others being severely injured.
** The Sports Festival being later compared to canon means that the I-Island trip ends up happening before the Sports Festival.
** With Inasa in Class 1-A, Shoto ends up using his fire before the Sports Festival. And while the question that gets through to him is the same, the context is very different[[labelnote:*]]Rather than Izuku calling him out on "looking down on his competitors", it's Inasa being upset that Shoto is once again not using his fire against villains who want to kill him and his classmates[[/labelnote]].
** Due to Camie, who along with Tooru, having a Quirk with little combat utilization and Melissa, a [[{{UnSorcerer}} Quirkless individual]] being Hero Course students, Class 1-A is a lot less sympathetic to the General Studies students for not making it in. In fact, Class 1-A use the blaming of their Quirks as a basis for their TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards the former.

* HiddenPurposeTest: Unlike canon where the Zero Pointer is simply [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin worth no points]], here the students are told attacking it will give them an automatic zero on the practical exam. The teachers' muse that its real purpose is to see what the applicants will do when facing an enemy where they have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Izuku attacks the Zero Pointer to save Ochako, which earns him the highest score in U.A.'s history when combined with his excellent Villain score.

* IncompatibleOrientation: Discussed as a major reason why polycules tend to implode such as the one between Nejire, Mirio and Yuyu, as Yuyu is exclusively attracted to Nejire only. In order to avoid such things in chapter 9, while Izuku was taking one of the girls on a date, the other girls went on outings with each other to see if there was any form of attraction. Neijire even admits the only reason her own aunt's polycule doesn't implode is that her uncles are HeterosexualLifePartners.

** After rescuing Aoyama from a villain at the USJ, Shoji is left with the choice of either leaving him behind to save Tokoyami and Kuroiro, or try to carry the badly injured boy into battle. Luckily, Aoyama provides a third option: having Shoji aim him at the villain crippling their classmates so he can take him out with his Quirk.

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: The villain attacking Aoyama uses his Quirk to force the latter to fire his Navel Laser. This ends up hitting the villain that is trying to kill Shoji, allowing the latter to knock her out and rescue Aoyama.

--> '''All Might''': I should have declared Todoroki-shonen out of the exercise once he was fully wrapped to the crate. In the real world, that could have been an easy way to end up with a knife in the throat. Remember that while you're training for it, out in the field is a different world. Villains… real Villains often do not hesitate to kill or cripple. This is a rewarding profession in very many ways, but it is a dangerous one. Never forget that.

* PortalCut: Kurogiri attempts one during the attack on the USJ, but happened to choose Setsuna, who activated her Quirk and survived unharmed.

* PowerPerversionPotential: Izuku's healing abilities causes the target to feel some pleasure. Yui takes full advantage of it to grab his hand and place it over her crotch when he offers to heal her. She ends up making a lewd moan on ''live television''.

** Izuku, Momo, Itsuka, and Setsuna theorize that the media break-in could have been part of a villain attack and warn the rest of their classes to be on guard. They're completely correct to be on guard, as yes, the break-in ''was'' part of a villain's plan, and that plan is to kill them at the USJ. Their caution proves a saving grace as the villain forces turns out to be more dangerous than the mere thugs they were in canon.

* ReedSnorkel: Of sorts. When the USJ Noumu tosses one of the 1-B students is tossed into the lake unconscious to drown, Izuku (even in his exhaustion and state of near HeroicBSOD) uses all the psychic power he can muster to form a tube from Jurota's mouth and nose to the surface of the lake so the boy can breathe.

*** Several of the obstacles in the UA Sports Festival Obstacle Course are based on the trials from the Skypiea Arc, down to the very name. When Izuku realizes this, Present Mic says the name alone should have given it away. Izuku also thinks the mountain that is the last obstacle of the race is based off Reverse Mountain.

** During their date, Izuku anti's Camie's joke in a manner identical to [[WebVideo/HellsingUltimateAbridged Walter did to Alucard]]. Later, the pair of them quote ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure''.

** Itsuka ends up sleeping atop of Inasa after the latter. All are understandably embarrassed when they see All Might there waiting for them to wake up.

* TherapyIsForTheWeak: Defied. Aizawa tells his class that everyone who was at the USJ attack will be attending a mandatory session with Hound Dog. Whether they have more than one session with the counselor is up to them.

** Bakugo uses his gauntlet at the USJ to defeat a villain whose laser Quirk makes her too dangerous to get close. Though after the adrenaline dies down and a chewing out by Kirishima, he's horrified by how badly he injured her.

* WardrobeMalfunction: Nejire tells Izuku than Ryukyu warned her that costumes being ruined (usually from villain fights) in public resulting in the hero or heroine being nude is an unfortunate job hazard.

** For the rest of the students they learn just how far they are willing to go in order to defeat their enemies. Some cripple villains and regret it, while Bakugo is sickened to realize the satisfaction he took in doing it to his opponent. Aoyama is suffering horrible internal injuries, and no one would fault him for staying out of the rest of the fight, yet risks further damage to save his classmates. Meanwhile, Izuku proves he is willing to die if that is what it takes to take down the Nomu and save the others.

** Aoyama's Quirk is badly overused due to a USJ villain whose Quirk allowed him to forcibly keep it active. Aoyama barely manages to fire off a shot to help Tokoyami and Kuroiro before passing out.

(Going out on a date with everyone in said polycule to see if there's any chemistry).
** That said, Mineta's behavior goes over the line for his classmates, and is soon expelled for it.

* InadequateInheritor: Mirio is recommended by Nighteye and Nedzu as a potential successor to All Might as a wielder of One for All, but All Might is wary of choosing him for several reasons. One is that he is worried Mirio is ''too much'' like him and All Might himself made many mistakes, so we wishes for someone more different from him. Another is that Nedzu himself advises wariness due to the potential of Quirk Incompatibility, which All Might confirms for himself after hearing how Permeation works. All Might also believes Mirio doesn't strictly need the Quirk. Finally, and All Might admits to this being a personal problem, is that he has issues with Nighteye whom he feels is acting as if One for All is for ''Nighteye'' to give away, not All Might himself.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: Shigaraki comes to the USJ to torture and murder all the teachers and hero students, leaving them for All Might to find, and to horrify society. [[LaserGuidedKarma He leaves after missing two limbs, with multiple burns all over the rest of his body]], losing all his pawns including the vaunted Nomu, and having had a full-blown VillainousBreakdown from seeing the rise of a successor to All Might who will continue the hero society.
