Morty Smith has always had a hard time making friends in school, and his grandpa Rick certainly didn't help any. All of that was about to change when one day, something extraordinary happened, something more unbelievable than all of his dimension-hopping adventures…he made some normal friends. Now Morty just has to worry about keeping them safe as they begin to get themselves wrapped up in all sorts of otherworldly mishaps and hijinks. ** The first part of chapter 2, “Breakfast Building Friendships”, focuses on Kitty and the relationship she has with her own group of friends at school and her family life. Kitty’s home life contrasts to the Dysfunctional Family that Morty is used to.
** Chapter 5, “Meeting the Smiths”, focuses on Beth and her first time meeting Kitty, the first friend other than her father that Morty has made in a long time.
** Chapter 6, “Tales of the Drunken Rick”, focuses on the characters of Bridgette and Courtney as they start hearing the rumors about Rick and Morty.
** Chapter 7, “Summertime”, focuses on Summer’s struggles with popularity as she joins Heather’s cheerleading clique.
* ActionGirl: After her first adventure with Rick and Morty, Kitty begins regularly joining the two on their whacky adventures. Rick at first doubted her abilities, but Kitty quickly proved that she could hold her own and shoot just as good as the rest of them. Kitty isn’t afraid to face off against terrifying alien creatures if it means keeping her friends alive (and getting that great selfie)!
* AcademicAlphaBitch: Courtney is shown to be the best academic in school, and she knows it. She takes her classes very seriously, but, as can be seen in Chapter 7 “Summertime”, Courtney is very ambitious and takes it upon herself to solve her friend’s problems by [[spoiler: suggesting to Bridgette that Rick be institutionalized or arrested to “protect the poor children”.]]

* AlphaBitch: In Chapter 7, “Summertime”, it is shown that Heather is the alpha bitch of the school. She’s pretty, captain of the cheer squad, and looks down at all the other girls, including her own friends!

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Rick to Kitty’s parents in chapter 2. And Beth and Jerry when they first meet Kitty in chapter 5, though unlike the Rick example, Beth and Jerry are at least trying to be nice to the first real friend their son has had in years that wasn't Rick. They simply have a hard time hiding their surprise that Morty's new friend just so happened to be a pretty girl.
* BrokenMasquerade: [[ZigzaggingTrope Zigzagged.]]. This is how most people that see Rick and Morty’s adventures that know about them. But those that don’t are only rumors, until they see it for themselves.

** Courtney, who is Duncan’s on-again off-again girlfriend, picks up his attitude towards Morty and his group of friends.

* LovableAlphaBitch: Lindsay is pretty, as a part of Heather’s posse, and loves to gossip about the other students. She’s perceived as being just another mean popular girl until Summer gets to know her better. It’s revealed that Lindsay can actually be pretty sweet and is being manipulated by Heather.

* LimitedWardrobe: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in chapter 3 when Morty think to himself why he hadn't bothered to wear something a little different. His clothes were a bit plain, but they were comfortable and easier to grab since there was no need to try and get things to match. He decides to get a few new shirts so he isn’t wearing the same clothes all the time. [[AvertedTrope Averted]] when it show in later chapters with the characters appear in different outfits and hair styles.
* LonerTurnedFriend: Morty to Harold’s group of friends.

* LovableJock: DJ and Geoff are both members of the football team, but they don’t fall into the bully category with Duncan, Lightning or Scott. DJ and Geoff are friendly and don’t like to pick on others. DJ even brings in his mom’s special homemade cooking to share with his friends.

* ShipTease: It’s hinted at through the series that Morty and Kitty will end up together, but it’s also teased that there might be more between Morty and Zoey.

* SpannerInTheWorks: Morty making friends with Harold’s group gives Summer the idea to try and befriend Heather’s group of friends.

* RichBitch: Not only is Heather the Alpha Bitch, but she’s also loaded. She has expensive taste and isn’t concerned about spending her parent’s money to afford it.
* TheRival: Courtney and Heather have a huge rivalry in becoming top-dog at the school. They compete in everything they’re in together from clubs to athletics.

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Predating the story, Country and Emma were close friends, but a rift split the two girls apart when they didn’t approve of one another’s love interests.

Thought to be fair on the last one, she has a very good reason to be concern about Rick and the danger he brings.
