* ImprobableTaxonomySkills: The end-of-chapter notes tend to include the genus and species name of each creature rescued, something that is usually rather rare, even in the source material and other Prehistoric Park fanfiction. Some chapters include this simply for the sake of keeping things clear to the readers -- the mission to rescue dinosaurs from Jurassic North America explicitly lists [[spoiler:Big Al]] as an ''Allosaurus fragilus''. ''That'' example, though, was also because all ''Allosaurus'' species from that time and location were rescued (for reference, North America has five different species of ''Allosaurus'' -- ''A. fragilus'', ''A. lucasi'', ''A. jimmadseni'', ''A. atrox'', and ''A. amplus''.

And ironically, that example was subject to a {{retcon}} when the author found out that [[spoiler:Big Al]] was actually an ''Allosaurus jimmadseni''.

Misuse. These tropes refer to animals being portrayed with very specific characterizations, and aren't just lists of every instance where the relevant animal happens to appear.

* AlwaysABiggerFish: A frequent occurrence in the story, where a predator or other creature that is proving to be an obstacle/danger for Nigel and his team is quickly confronted with a larger, more dangerous creature. Nigel often exploits this to rescue both creatures. It happens enough that it gets a LampshadeHanging in "Rise of the Mammals".

Nigel often exploits this to rescue both creatures. It happens enough that it gets a LampshadeHanging in "Rise of the Mammals".

* BearsAreBadNews: Two varieties of short-faced bear -- a South American species under the genus ''Arctotherium'' and the more well known ''Arctodus simus'' -- appear in the story. The ''Arcotherium'' was rescued in ''Saving the Sabertooth'' via a {{Retcon}} (the author has said he will write in the scene, [[ScheduleSlip but it's been a few years and that still hasn't happened]]), whilst the ''Arctodus'' was encountered in ''The Last Supper'' when it fell thoruhg the portal whilst fighting a ground sloth, [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments after which both were unceremoniously tranquilized by the staff.]]
** The cave bear from the original series also shows up, and this time around it's rescued.

* CanisMajor: ''Epicyon'', the largest species of dog to ever live, was rescued in ''The Great American Safari''. Dire wolves show up in ''The Last Supper''.

* FeatheredFiend: Most of the theropod dinosaurs, including all of the park's birds. For a specific example, the ''Bathornis''. Later joined by the giant teatorns.

* HemisphereBias: Most of the chapters focus on animals from North America. Granted, there are a ''huge'' number of well known fossil sites from North America (including Hell Creek, the La Brea Tar Pits, and the Texas Red Beds, among others), but it is still a rather obvious bias.
* HitlersTimeTravelExemptionAct: To test the effects of the time portal, people were sent back to -- among other things -- remove infamous dictators from power. When they came back to the present, nothing changed, confirming that the portal doesn't affect their timeline. Instead, it creates alternate timelines/universes. Because of this, the Park can potentially rescue extinct animals, [[spoiler:even famous individuals like Big Al]], without the risk of causing a paradox or otherwise damaging the time stream.
* HonorableElephant: Besides Martha the Mammoth, the park also plays host to a herd of ''Zygolophodon'' (a type of mastodon) as well as several gomphotheres. Chapter 30 sees the American Mastodon and Columbian Mammoth join the park's residents.
* LastOfHisKind: Of all the animals in the park, only Martha, the Elasmotherium, and Finn fulfil this role, as every other prehistoric species in the park had at least a breeding pair rescued. Later, they are joined by the ice Age Jaguar.
* TheMarvelousDeer: ''Megaloceros''.

* RhinoRampage. As with the original show, ''Elasmotherium'', but the fanfic also contains the more well-known wooly rhino ''Coelodonta'' and the obscure North American rhinoceros genera ''Teloceras'', ''Menoceras'', and ''Aphelops''.
* RunningGag: In ''Time of the Titans'', whenver an animal falls over, it will usually be trampled by several smaller animals. This happens to a ''Torvosaurus'' and a ''Saurophaganax''. The only predator to avert this is a ''Ceratosaurus''.
** Note that both of the trampled animals ''survived'' being trampled by other creatures. The ''Saurophaganax', in particular, only comes out of being stepped on by a ''Stegosaurus'' and a ''Ceratosaurus'' with a few broken ribs.

* SeaMonster: Besides sharks, the park is home to mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, giant nautiloids, giant ichthyosaurs, eurypterids, and eugenodonts. And more are on the way....
** The author has also included a completely speculative species of filter-feeding pliosaur at the park. [[FanDumb He would appreciate it if people remember that they are completely fictional and stop mentioning it in the reviews.]]
** Granted, [[DownplayedTrope these animals are not portrayed as monsters, but merely normal animals]].

** Vera and Marcus' MushroomSamba in ''Double Crested Lizard'' appears to be based on Evan Cross' from ''Series/PrimevalNewWorld'', including its cause - [[spoiler:being sneezed on by a ''Pachycephalosaurus'' that consumed hallucinogenic materials]].

* SwissCheeseSecurity: The park's security teams seem to be rather inept, seeing how they completely fail to notice [[spoiler:that Terence and Matilda have escaped their exhibits '''multiple times''']]. Per WordOfGod, this is because they are regularly trying to deal with the smaller animals of the park, who tend to escape their exhibits with annoying regularity. [[spoiler:They finally catch onto the fences being broken in Chapter 22, and immediately set to work repairing them]].
** That being said, they ''do'' tend to place a bit of thought into the enclosures and what goes in them - the tyrannosaur exhibit, at the very least, has a moat around it, in addition to the obvious fencing. Then again, nobody knew that tyrannosaurs could swim.

* ThreateningShark: The park is home to several prehistoric sharks. Additionally, Nigel also rescued a ''Stethecanthus'' and the juvenile ''Megalodon'' from Sea Monsters prior to the start of the story. The park is also home to several shark relatives, such as the eugenodont ''Edestus''. {{Downplayed}}, though, in that the sharks aren't portrayed in an overly menacing manner and even get P.O.V. segments all to themselves.

* XenoFiction: The animals aren't humanized at all in this story, and it shows.
** A big result of this is that we get to see how strange many modern animals are to extinct ones. * DivergentCharacterEvolution: In-universe example with the park's ''Allosaurus'', and applied on a species level -- since the park rescued multiple species of ''Allosaurus'' ([[ScienceMarchesOn some of which are now defunct]]), they're able to observe the unique nuances that differ between each species in both appearance and behavior. The more common ''Allosaurus fragilis'', for example, really live up to their epithet of being [[KingOfBeasts the Lion of the Jurassic]], being the FantasticFaunaCounterpart to lions (including apparently living in prides). ''A. jimmadseni'', meanwhile (the one that Big Al and Alicia belong to) are monogamous and live in mated pairs, though it isn't specified if this is serial monogamy (pairs seek out different partners each season) or a more devoted relationship. Finally, ''A. lucasi'' is solitary except during mating season.

This or these examples of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome seem to violate at least one of these rules, which disqualifies them: No character reactions (characters get angry, don't forgive, don't change their personality instantly, etc.); Too fantastical (depends on the properties of magic, powers, sci-fi tech, monsters, etc.); Not surprising (a character was warned about the outcome, it's used to provide Karma or An Aesop, or it simply follows normal conventions for this genre or medium); Plot happens (the example only describes an event, but not why audiences would expect a different, unrealistic outcome); Not an outcome (a character just explains why something wouldn't work as expected, or something is just an innate aspect of the setting or character that has a logical reason for being present); More of a Deconstruction (the event has major, lasting effects on the plot, make something more realistic, but not completely realistic, or a parody/fanwork applies realistic consequences to the events of a different work); or fits better under a different trope. See the trope's definition for more details. If you believe a removal was a mistake, please bring it up in the cleanup thread.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Many examples, that work both for and against our protagonists:
** More often than not, when a predator attacks, '''there is no warning'''. Fortunately...
** The vast majority of large predatory dinosaurs in the series tend to ignore the park's staff in favor of larger prey. Predators in general prefer to hunt animals they are familiar with, as they know both the defenses of these animals and how much food an individual of this species will provide on average.
** The ''Acrocanthosaurus'' Finn, who happens to be hungry enough to defy the above mentioned rule and attempt to attack a human, collapses from hunger the minute he tries to do so. If a multi-ton predator is hungry enough to consider attacking a relatively small human, it's unlikely its going to be very healthy to begin with.
** Additionally, when Vera attempts to tame Finn, it isn't a quick process where the two rapidly bond together - the former needs to spend quite a bit of time nursing the giant carnivore back to health before he is willing to even let her touch him.
** The sheer number of creatures rescued in just about every episode is implied to be very taxing on the keepers, who end up missing a few of the residents when they check for new arrivals. Case in point, several ''Didelphodon'' and ''Westlethonia'' go unnoticed for several chapters until they do something to expose themselves.
