I have never been good at descriptions, or easily remembering tropes. Hopefully someone who's a fan can do better.

A child on the run, mired in what they believe to be the True World, falls through the barrier and into the land of Monsters. They are found by the prince Asriel Dreemurr, taken into his family, and given kindness and warmth they thought was long left forgotten.
But their arrival has other consequences. As impossible as their arrival seemed, it is only the beginning, for more humans are already on their way.
And this child, who has finally found a family and a place worth protecting, will stop at nothing to keep the humans away.
