Under Salem's and her minions' "care", they've been raised as little better than animals and savages: being fed raw carcasses, taught that positive emotions are bad and that it's their lifelong mission to bring humanity under Salem's heel, and being pitted against and expected to kill each-other until only the strongest handful of them are left standing to carry out Salem's will. Jaune is determined to save Ruby, Yang, Weiss and Blake by getting them in touch with their humanity again.
