* AmbiguousDisorder: As we find out from chapter 21, Ragyo seemed to have some sort of mental illness the which is characterized by her erratic behavior, bitterness, and fits of anger. However, said mental illness being the concern of her husband, who [[spoiler: opted on leaving her and taking the children with him]].

* IllGirl:
** In Chapter 12, Ragyo, who dies of what is implied to be terminal cancer.
** Chapter 25 implies Shiro to be one, as Satsuki states that he was never known to be well and that him dying was a given.

* AbsenteeActor: In-Universe. Aikuro isn't mentioned in Chapters 24 and 25. Likewise, Nui is absent in Chapter 24 but isn't mentioned in 25, at least not separately, however, she is present, as she, Satsuki, and Ryuuko went to visit a dying Shiro.

* AdultFear: Chapter 14 touches upon this, when Satsuki narrates her fear that, if social services did take Ryuuko, they may put her in an even worse situation than what she came from.
** This happens again when Satsuki is quite worried about how the absence of her, Nui, and Aikuro would affect Ryuuko's future and dreads the notion of sending her to a home, as she fears such option may not be affordable or that she wouldn't be taken care of.

* SkunkStripe: Shiro, who has a streak of gray in his otherwise blonde hair. Likewise, Ryuuko has a streak of red in her otherwise black hair.

* {{Mystery}}: The story has some aspects, with family secrets and what not.

* RealityEnsues: Ryuuko being a WildChild. For one, her age does play a factor, as the older she is, the less they can reclaim, along with the fact that she'll improve as time goes on but she'll still remain stunted. Likewise, she's is terrified of almost everything and knows enough speech to state this and that but still has to learn how to use syntaxes. Said rehabilitation would be a long and ongoing one and, at the beginning of the story, she stayed in an institution for awhile before getting to come home.
