trope is renamed Prefers Going Barefoot. Dewicking old name

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Velanna, of course; all elves prefer to go barefoot, but Velanna takes it to an extreme, going barefoot even in dangerous (and disgusting) territory such as the Blackmarsh. Anders is rather appalled to consider the state of her feet in such territory. This also seems to go hand in hand with a persistent refusal to wear the Warden uniform; she only wears either one when explicitly ordered to. Combines with a "[[WesternAnimation/{{Frozen2013}} let it go]]" moment at the Battle of Amaranthine; when Velanna decides to defy Leonie and desert the Wardens in order to save the survivors, she kicks off her shoes as she runs into the city.

* EarthyBarefootCharacter: Velanna DoesNotLikeShoes and is also a Keeper who utilizes nature magic, including infusing trees with living spirits to do her bidding.

* NoSocialSkills / SarcasmBlind: Hawke is this. Word of God has hinted that he might have a form of Asperger's; he attributes his lack of social skills to a childhood spent on the run, unable to form attachments, yet his younger siblings had the same upbringing and don't seem to have the same difficulty.
** Merrill is also SarcasmBlind, which leads to a few confusing conversations where Hawke and Merrill are being totally straight with each other but everyone ''else'' thinks they’re being sarcastic.

Five Man Band is undergoing a wick-cleaning project, so examples featuring groups of more than five will be deleted.

* FiveManBand: There are actually seven members, but they all fit into the roles in some way.
** TheLeader: Amell, of course; tactically brilliant, incredibly charismatic, courageous and commanding.
** TheLancer: Nathaniel and Oghren split this role. Oghren is the messy, grizzled contrast to the clean-cut Amell and his best and most loyal friend, but Nathaniel is his competent lieutenant and steady right hand. [[spoiler: Nathaniel also steps into the leadership position, more or less, when Amell leaves.]]
** TheSmartGuy: Anders and Velanna split this role. As the two mages of the group, they are both GlassCannon s, so they fit the 'physically weak but highly knowledgeable' archetype. Anders definitely has the comic relief angle nailed down, but Velanna's reckless flouting of authority often gives her Trickster qualities.
** TheBigGuy: Oghren and Justice split this role. As the two warriors of the team, they're both equipped for heavy lifting but not suited for leadership; Oghren is uninterested in intellectual pursuits and Justice is completely naive to the ways of the mortal world.
** TheChick: Sigrun; unquestionably '{{the heart}}' of the team, she's the first to try to befriend Justice, and a ShipperOnDeck for both Amell/Anders and Nate/Velanna.

* AbusiveParents: Malcolm and Leandra Hawke - the former of the physically violent variety, and the latter of a more subtle but no less harmful kind. Much emphasis is put on Leandra blaming Hawke for the death of Carver as a method of emotional manipulation.

* ButForMeItWasTuesday: The trope is referenced by name in ''From Kinloch We Fled'' - a side-story about all the times that Anders unwittingly saved Amell's life in the Circle, leading to Amell falling in love with him.

** [[spoiler: Amell himself, after his mutilation. He can't bear to live crippled, so he voluntarily goes off to his Calling at the first opportunity.]]
* DevotedToYou: Amell to Anders. Although not ''quite'' a case of SingleTargetSexuality -- Amell did have another relationship before him, which was apparently quite serious -- it's revealed that he was in love with Anders for ''years'' and never really stopped, even when he was with someone else.

Although not ''quite'' a case of SingleTargetSexuality -- Amell did have another relationship before him, which was apparently quite serious -- it's revealed that he was in love with Anders for ''years'' and never really stopped, even when he was with someone else. ''From Kinloch We Fled'' delves more into how and why this infatuation arose - showing the numerous times that Anders (intentionally or otherwise) saved Amell in the Circle, [[ButForMeItWasTuesday oftentimes without even realising it]].
