* BoobsOfSteel: Discussed. When Sarah learns that her ''chi'' usage is likely tied to her recent growth spurt, she asks if it's going to turn her into "one of those big boobed anime girls", only for Keitaro to tell her that's not how it works.

* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Sarah's classmate Aki Wakirihara. She was not bothered by Kensuke Aida's covert pictures of her in her underwear in the school locker room because she is a gravure (men's magazine) model that has published more suggestive pictures. She also greets her close friends by [[MarshmallowHell hugging them]] to [[BuxomIsBetter her chest]], and has to be talked out of wearing one of her gravure string bikinis in the Hinata-sou hot spring by her boyfriend telling her that causing her host to have a {{nosebleed}} and faint would be considered rude.

** The younger residents of the Hinata Inn. Su is the [[TheMcCoy Id]], Nyamo is the [[TheSpock Superego]], and Sarah is the [[TheKirk Ego]] and TheLeader. Shinobu is the NiceGirl of their group and would fall into TheChick / {{Heart}} slot, the one they all [[BerserkButton automatically protect]].

* {{Bifauxnen}}: After she switches to a boy's uniform and braids her hair, Sarah passes for a {{Bishonen}} and has girls drooling over her.

* HeroicSafeMode: Keitaro goes into a mild form of this during the pirate raid at the excavation site when he has to [[spoiler: take out a pirate quietly but messily by cutting his throat]], and later when forcing information from a pirate suspect right after Sarah was taken. Once he goes decides to go to [[spoiler: [[WretchedHive Roanapur]]]] to rescue Sarah... [[UpToEleven oh boy]].

* KnifeNut: Haruka carries around a butterfly knife that she's quite skilled with.
** Keitaro is implied to be one when it is mentioned that he can't twirl a butterfly knife without looking like a thug. In Thailand [[spoiler:he killed a pirate during the island raid by cutting his throat from behind. In Roanapur he kills a criminal with a knife in public who was threatening him in order to maintain his cover]].
** Nyamo Namo carried a fishing knife concealed in her waistband under her shirt when she lived on her own in the South Pacific. She has used it to defend herself to [[WaifFu devastating effect]]. Nyamo was taught by her late grandfather, who in turn learned from old school Filipino Escrima knife fighters. In a spar with Gaz, he did not take her seriously at first. That changed '''very''' quickly.
*** In Japan Nyamo still carries knives concealed to protect herself and others, even at school. If she can not carry them in her waistband she will tuck them under skin colored bandages wrapped around her forearms under long sleeves or taped to her upper arms under short sleeves. [[{{Hammerspace}} As of yet she has not described how she plans to conceal the knives and sheaths when she is wearing a school swimsuit.]]
*** Nyamo has taught Sarah some Escrima, which is notable because Escrima '''starts''' with sticks and knives and then moves up to bare hand fighting. Justified in that learning the basic knife fighting attacks and defenses ingrains the movements into muscle memory, which can then used with empty hands.

* BadassAdorable: Nyamo Namo. She looks very similar to her cute and shy dorm-mate Shinobu Maehara (except for her darker complexion) and has a stoic personality, but can [[LittleMissBadass take care of herself]]. A groper on a tram had a very close encounter with one of her [[KnifeNut concealed knives]] and took off running as a result.

** Haruka is a skilled martial artist and KnifeNut.

* AdultFear: The backstory involves Sarah being kidnapped by traffickers to be sold into slavery. Earlier in Keitaro's life, Kanako was drugged by men who also tried to kidnap her.

* TokenYuriGirls: [[spoiler:Motoko]] and Kotoko as of chapter 36.

* {{Crossover}}: A minor one with ''Manga/YoureUnderArrest'', with Keitaro having both trained and been romantically involved with Natsumi and Miyuki. An even more minor one with ''VideoGame/StreetFighter'' is mentioned in chapter 22.

** At the end of chapter 21, Keitaro defeats Motoko using the [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Hadoken]]

* NotSoDifferent: Su used her supercomputer and hacking skills to crack into and copy the cellphone contents of three female bullies who attacked Shinobu at school (Keitaro had managed to make Su [[LoopholeAbuse promise not to go after the bullies physically]]) and publicly posted the info about illegal activities online for schoolmates to access and forwarded the data to the police. When Keitaro confronts her about her actions he finds out that she also investigated the bullies' families and is planning to blackmail them to pull the bullies from that school in order to protect Shinobu. He threatens to evict her for her own illegal actions if she goes through with it, but Su points out that Keitaro himself threatened the jobs/careers of the school administrators to get them to put a halt to the harassment that Sarah was undergoing at school by both students and a teacher. When Su spells out that her actions and those of Keitaro are not so different, he backs off on the eviction threat and instead decides to use the information that Su gathered on the families to help them resolve their problems and to convince them to pull the bullies from that school.

* FiveManBand: When Sarah, Nyamo and Su's PowerTrio (see entry below) is joined by Aki and Shinobu it becomes ThreePlusTwo:

* PowerTrio:
** The Urashima at the Hinata Inn. Keitaro, Haruka and Kanako in the CombatDiplomacyStealth format, in that order.
** Three of the younger residents at the Hinata Inn. Nyamo and Su interchange between Combat and Stealth, while Sarah handles Diplomacy and Combat as needed; see FreudianTrio above.

** Motoko and her boss Kotoko after their first night together. Motoko could not look away from the other girl's eyes as they lay in each others arms and spoke the [[BiTheWay morning after]].

* BiTheWay: Natsumi and Miyuki are involved with Keitaro and each other. [[spoiler:Motoko has some attraction to Keitaro but most of her CharacterDevelopment begins showing after she starts a relationship with a woman.]]
** OC Aki Wakirihara is shown flirting with both boys and girls, stating boys are better for sex and girls are better for cuddling. She has a steady boyfriend but that does not stop her come-ons to Sarah and Nyamo.
** Sarah later determines that she likes boys and girls, though she's not sure if she likes one more than the other.

** As of March 15, 2021 it's ''464,913' words at 71 chapters.

* FreudianExcuse: According to chapter 35, at least part of the reason Motoko is so against men and relationships is because [[spoiler: she got lousy advice about sex from her great-aunt as a child]].

** At the end of chapter 22, Keitaro defeats Motoko using the [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Hadoken]]

** At the end of chapter 25, Keitaro defeats Motoko using the [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Hadoken]].

* DoorStopper: As of July 2017, the fic clocks in at just under ''400,000'' words over 64 chapters, with no signs of ending soon.

** While still having more appearances than Motoko, the other older girls (Naru, Kitsune, and Kanako) quickly become minor characters while the story focuses on Su, Shinbu, and (especially) Sarah.

* StoicWoobie: Nyamo . Has a very restrained personality as a result of becoming an orphan in her early teens and living on her own in a sailboat for a couple years in the South Pacific, dodging a slaver kidnap attempt along the way. The only people she is close to is her roommate Sarah and her guardian Keitaro.

* AgeLift: The author has aged up the younger members of the cast; Motoko is now eightteen, Su and Shinobu are fifteen, and Sarah is also fifteen.
