** If a player is banned from Website/BZPower after leaving ''Dino Attack RPG'', their characters are said to be formally discharged by Specs.

* CrypticBackgroundReference: Dino Attack RPG takes place in 2010 and was first started in 2005. Since the details of what would happen over the next five years (in both official LEGO story and in Website/BZPower LEGO RPG story) could not be predicted, [=PeabodySam=] seized the opportunity to make Cryptic Background References regarding the fates of his ''Roleplay/AlphaTeamMissionDeepFreezeRPG'' characters, such as the death of Rebel Drone and the mysterious disappearance of Frozeen. Although some of this background information was intended to be explained by a later Alpha Team RPG (likely ''Ogel's Last Stand''), even in 2012 many questions about what exactly happened in this six-year span between ''Alpha Team RPG'' and ''Dino Attack RPG'' remain unanswered.

** Oswald was describing Athena (and by extension, Minerva) with a phrase that would have been ended with a word not appropriate for Website/BZPower, only to be interrupted by Minerva.

* FullyAbsorbedFinale: ''Love and War'' partially revealed the conclusion to the "mole hunt" subplot of ''Alpha Team RPG: Ogel's Last Stand'', which could never be finished because ''Ogel's Last Stand'' was prematurely ended by the Website/BZPower forum upgrade. More details were also revealed on the wiki.

* TheFlorenceNightingaleEffect: Pierce apparently got close to a young Sarah Bishop while taking care of her injuries following an accident. Interestingly, they later rekindled their old romance when they met again, but their places switched, with Sarah now taking care of Pierce's injuries. It's also heavily implied that the former case is how Kate was born.

* ButterflyOfDoom: Part of FUTURE's scheme involves making seemingly random attacks that are actually targeting agents who played an important role in the original timeline. Sometimes, that important role is [[ForWantOfANail a small one with greater ramifications]]. For example, because they assassinated Connors, Rev Raptor and Sereve never received her assistance in tracking down Landro, resulting in both Rev and Sereve dying and being unable to retrieve the Maelstrom Crystal.

** ''For Want of Nails'' is a punny title that refers to elite agent Nails (a major character in the short story) and the ForWantOfANail trope (the premise of the short story).

* ForWantOfANail: ''Because Of You'' shows how the seemingly-minor events of November 5, 1958 (revolving around whether or not a particular bride-to-be was abducted by a certain scientist) could shape the entire future. Depending on how this one night plays out, the Dino Attack occurs in 2010; the Evil OGEL Empire remains in power into the [=2020s=]; or neither happens.

** Walker and Lovhaug are Expies of Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses characters.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Athena Fabello always goes around barefoot.

* AbandonedHospital: Mercy Hospital, a ShoutOut to the hospital of the same name from ''VideoGame/Left4Dead''.

** The fate of any character's story when their player leaves ''Dino Attack RPG''. Probably the most infamous example of an Aborted Arc would be Databoard's quest to rescue Stealth, which was left unresolved after Chronicler of Ko-Koro left ''Dino Attack RPG''.

** The [[WhatIf alternate ending]] ''L.E.G.O.'' was aborted after only two chapters.
* AbsurdlySpaciousSewer: The sewage tunnel that leads to Dinosaur Island.

* ActionGirl:
** Amanda Claw, Dromus, Aravis, Minerva, Vinyaya, Cabin, Kat, Maria, Zelda, Zealot, and Kara.
** Although not actually agent Pyro, Andrea Jackson Orange is a pretty darn good action girl who specializes in flamethrowers.
* ActionMom: Sarah Bishop.

* AdaptationExpansion: [[Toys/LEGODinoAttack The original LEGO theme]] had a [[ExcusePlot very simple plot]]: mutant dinosaurs are attacking the city, and four guys are trying to stop them. However, the ''Dino Attack RPG'' revealed that this has happened all over the world, bringing in other LEGO-themed locations and showing the impact that these events have had on them. The Dino Attack Team of the original theme consisted of four men, but the RPG has shown that it is actually much larger and there are women helping out. It's also explained what happened to the citizens of the various places that have been invaded (an issue completely ignored in the original line), and there is even some background as to why the heck all this is happening in the first place.
* AdaptationExplanationExtrication: In the original RPG, it's explained that the villains escaped their prison cells in the Dino Island Laboratory by using Sam Sinister's hook to pick the lock. Since the Director's Cut makes this impossible (the cells now use energy force fields instead of conventional locks), no explanation is provided for how the villains escape, with Brickster simply [[HandWave hand-waving]] it by pointing out that it wasn't his first prison break.
* AdaptationNameChange: The Director's Cut enforces the OneSteveLimit by changing the names of characters. Examples include the first Maw (Sharptooth), the first Snake (Snake of Spades), the first Andrew (Andrew Yellowstone), the second Vex (Vax), the first Wing (Wingman), the first Tom (Tomson), and the third Phantom (R-Phantom). It also changes the names of the Second Headquarters Squad (except for Medic) and Michelle Glados in order to distance them from their [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 respective]] [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} inspiration]].
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: The relationship of Frozeen and Shannon Grimton was significantly reworked in the Director's Cut due to [=PeabodySam=]'s criticisms of how it was written in the original RPG. Most notably, while the original RPG heavily implied that they would see a RelationshipUpgrade after the war and become an OfficialCouple, the Director's Cut makes it explicitly clear that Frozeen DidNotGetTheGirl and they remain JustFriends.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Several characters appear earlier in the Director's Cut than in the original RPG, including:
** Because several Expanded Universe stories are now directly incorporated into the story, any characters included before their RPG debut now make earlier appearances. This includes Frank Einstein (''Rex's Awakening''), Walker, Adventure, Trouble (''First Assignment''), Roger Remous, Amanda Claw (''Dear Sister''), Ata, Semick, Bluetooth, Scout, Pharisee (''The Madness of Agent Zero''), Fate, and Colonel (''Time and Place'').
** Engineer appears during the Kotua crisis (filling in the role originally played by Banchito), predating his debut during the LEGO Island story arc.
** A group of nondescript XERRD scientists, seen early in the Kotua crisis, are replaced with early cameos by Dr. Strangebrick, Carolyne Provencal, and Dr. Rex. Although revealed to be the case via retcons, another generic XERRD scientist during the Dino Island Laboratory story arc is now outright confirmed to be Matthew Cyrista, appearing long before his proper debut as Dr. Cyber in the Adventurers' Island story arc. Michelle Glados also makes an appearance during the Dino Island story arc.
** Rex's tamed Mutant T-Rex, Maw, originally did not appear until after the Kotua crisis ended. He is now identified as one of the T-Rex hatchlings that Rex captures at the very beginning of the RPG.
** The mutant dragon that Rev and Sereve tried to capture is now a Maelstrom Dragon. Similarly, the mutant spider that attacked Nick Lightning is now a Dark Spiderling. Both of these give early appearances to Stromlings.
** Hacker briefly appears much earlier than his debut in the Adventurers' Island story arc, making a cameo as one of the agents working under Magma's command.

* BattleCouple:

** And now Maria and Andrea Jackson Orange are a lesbian battle couple.

* BookEnds: A surprising, yet completely unintentional, meta example. ''Roleplay/AlphaTeamMissionDeepFreezeRPG'', which introduced [=PeabodySam=] to PlayByPostGames and thus directly led to the creation of ''Dino Attack RPG'', its SpiritualSuccessor, was started on December 21, 2004. ''Dino Attack: At War's End'' finally ended on [[MayanDoomsday December 21, 2012]]. Things truly do come full circle after all.

** In the early days of ''Dino Attack RPG'', there were numerous players whose primary characters were ChildSoldiers as young as 7 years old. This was something that [=PeabodySam=] had not considered when he made the ''Dino Attack RPG'''s sign-up form, so he later altered the form to state that primary characters had to be at least 18 years old. The ChildSoldiers were later {{retcon}}ned to be 17 years old and lying about their age when listed in the [[http://dinoattackrpg01.wikia.com/wiki/Dino_Attack_Team/Agents Dino Attack Team/Agents]] page on [[TheWikiRule the wiki]].

* ColdBloodedTorture: Rotor beating the living daylights out of ''an already terrified and confused child''. [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation How much of it was for information and how much was just Rotor being Rotor is up to the reader's interpretation.]]

* CreepyMonotone: Michelle Glados.

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Ben Gunn.

* {{Cyborg}}: Dr. Cyborg, General, and Cyrista's Bane.

* DerivativeDifferentiation: ''Dino Attack RPG'' started off as [[FollowTheLeader a near-clone of]] ''Roleplay/AlphaTeamMissionDeepFreezeRPG'' [[RecycledInSpace recycled in]] Toys/LEGODinoAttack, but eventually adopted its own unique style starting with the introduction of the StoryArc formula.

* DramaticThunder: A Type 3 variant, {{foreshadowing}} the final battle.

* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Oddly [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] with Andrew, who had dreams about being mutated and yet ultimately managed to overcome them. However, it is more or less played straight with Zachary.
** Actually played straight subtley, in regards to comments in his dreams about [[PeripheryDemographic taking interest]] in [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic small, oddly-colored horses]]...

** Athena Fabello after the death of Isacc Fabello.
** Grisbarba L. Pirata after the violent break-up with "Bad Luck" Beatrice.
* DrunkenMaster: Greybeard and Demoman.

* EyepatchOfPower: Snake, Demoman, Colonel, Holly Vinyaya, and Captain Click.

* AfterTheEnd: ''[[WhatIf December 21, 2010]]'' takes place in horrible post-apocalyptic world that makes ''Literature/TheRoad'' look romanticized. All life on the planet has been reduced to six people and a dinosaur, who are all crammed into one temple. The Maelstrom is destroying the entire planet, and cannot be stopped. There are explicit references to the deaths of major characters, and finally concluding with the entire planet being blown up and an explicit statement that "[[KillEmAll there were no survivors]]".

** This happens as the result of Mutant Dino Serum (or other similar means) [[BalefulPolymorph transforming Dino Attack agents into Mutant Dinos]]. Their fellow Dino Attack agents might mistake them for a normal Mutant Dino and fire upon them or capture them (the latter happened to Zorikk after he was turned into a Mutant T-Rex). The Shadows deliberately invoked this in their plan to wipe out Dino Attack Team by turning Dino Attack agents into Mutant Dinos.

* BalefulPolymorph: Mutant Dino Serum (as well as similar means, such as the Shadows' technology) transforms Dino Attack agents into Mutant Dinos. In the process, the agents usually lose their humanity and start attacking their teammates, while themselves becoming the target of other Dino Attack agents who think they're normal Mutant Dinos.

** In the [[CanonDiscontinuity non-canon]] scene where Papa Brickolini was arrested by the Nick Brick, the Brickolinis were exaggerated ''heavily''. In the original games, the Brickolinis spoke with a light Italian accent and accidentally freed the Brickster twice (and the second time, they tried to prevent it from happening again). In this scene, the Brickolinis' Italian accents were turned UpToEleven, and the two chefs were depicted as completely oblivious as they incompetently freed the Brickster again and again over the years by constantly sending super-spicy pizzas to the jail, even after what happened the first two times.

* EmphasizeEverything: Blaire Darkling intentionally speaks like this, often emphasizing random words with little relevence.

* DudeNotFunny: After Zachary makes a joke about Engineer's very-recent demise, he admits that it was probably distasteful.

* TheAgeless: Dr. Rex, so long as he is injecting himself with Jugend Serum.
* AggressiveNegotiations: Silencia Venomosa seems to love these.

** Dust's [[spoiler:death]], even if he wasn't exactly a villain.

* AlienInvasion: A recon group of Dino Aliens was scouting the LEGO Planet in preparation for the full invasion.

** Not quite, but it is worth noting that, out of four figures from the FictionalCountry of Barron (which is essentially a representation of stereotypical Germany), three are villains and one is a MadDoctor.
** Additionally, Kuru met a German scientist working for XERRD.
** On top of that, there's [[NamesToRunAwayFrom/ForeignLanguageNames Dunkelheit]], who was actually a Stromling Agent, and [[NamesToRunAwayFrom/ForeignLanguageNames Schattenberg]], the founding family of [=ShadowTech=].

** Not to mention Dino Attack Headquarters in the later stages of the final battle...

** Quoted nearly word-for-word by the Brickster.

* CannonFodder: Just about every Mutant Dino and unnamed Dino Attack agent.

** Atton Rand's {{Deconstruction}} of ''VideoGame/LEGOIsland''. That is all.

* CaptainColorbeard: Greybeard, Goldbeard, and Redbeard.
* CaptainCrash: This is why you should never let Sam Throramebi drive.

* CardCarryingVillain: Ogel, the Brickster, Vladek, Sam Sinister, and Dr. Inferno. Ogel, Vladek, and Dr. Inferno are part of the Control sphere, and the Brickster falls under the Destruction sphere; while Sam Sinister sees himself as a villain and fits the CardCarryingVillain trope, he does not fall under any of the three main spheres, as his main motivation is personal greed.
* CarnivoreConfusion: For the most part, we have seen little interaction between carnivores and herbivores. The most we have seen is a T-Rex, four Minifigs, and a pterosaur in the same room, and said T-Rex did not eat or attack any of her fellow roommates, which may invoke (but not necessarily confirm) the idea that non-mutant carnivores are abnormally civil.
** A T-Rex and a Minifig (for example, Chompy and Frozeen, the unnamed T-Rex and Taglong, the other unnamed T-Rex and Zachary) will often get along, never mind the fact that, under more realistic circumstances, the T-Rex would likely see the Minifig as prey. However, Chompy can be a brutal predator when he wants to be, an unnamed female T-Rex seemed opposed to helping Minifigs (which, in a case of Fridge Brilliance, she may see as her prey), the other unnamed T-Rex killed Gonnerman, and the queen T-Rex was eager to tear Mr. Cunningham apart on the spot.
** Let's not forget that Rex was in fact a Tyrannosaurus rex, and yet he's perfectly fine around herbivores. Although, to be fair, Rex has not really been around herbivores since before the Dino Attack (the closest he has been is watching a Triceratops stampede), and his dinosaur instincts were suppressed by XERRD experiments. Not to mention that he is, in fact, no longer a T-Rex.
*** Although, it is worth noting that shortly before the freak accident that switched Rex and Dr. Rex's bodies, Rex attacked Dr. Rex and picked him up with his ''maw''. If Rex had not been still reeling from a prior Sonic Screamer attack, would Rex have done to Dr. Rex what any true T-Rex would have done?

* CelibateHero:

* ChairReveal: PBB was introduced through one of these.
* ChaoticStupid: Baldrick.

** Then there's Palmer, who tricked Garry both into leading him to the source of the Maelstrom (essentially making him a super-Stromling of sorts, especially now that Zach was cured and Ahua is dead, leaving him to take their places) and made his fellow teammates paranoid to the extent that one of them was murdered... by Garry himself.

* CodeName: Many Dino Attack agents signed up under codenames.

** Even noticeable with common Mutant Dinos. Compare how hard it is to kill one Mutant Raptor versus an entire pack of Mutant Raptors.

* CoolOldGuy:
** Solomon is in his eighties.
** General, Ben Gunn, and Frank Einstein are in their late seventies.
** Greybeard is supposedly older than everyone else, as part of a running joke.[[note]]According to Word Of God, Greybeard is at least ninety years old.[[/note]]

* DarkFic: Look at [[Toys/LEGODinoAttack the source material]]. Now look at ''Dino Attack RPG''. Notice a difference in tone?
* DarkerAndEdgier: Definitely, considering [[Franchise/{{LEGO}} its source material]].

* DeadMansSwitch: Demoman's death trap during the mole hunt was set up so that if anything happened to him, the explosives would detonate. Luckily, the explosives were not exactly wired up properly.
* DeadlyGas: The toxins in the air vent system of XERRD establishments.
* DeadpanSnarker: Just about every character who does LampshadeHanging, especially [=Andrewnuva199=]'s characters.

* DefectorFromDecadence:
** General, Kat, Dr. Strangebrick, Dr. Cyborg, and Solomon Koplowitz.
** Dr. Gadd and Dr. Lee attempted to do this during the final battle, only to learn that XERRD was calling a truce with Dino Attack Team, rendering their defection redundant.

** Captain Click is able to pull this off.
** Apparently, according to the comm chatter, one of the Flying Legondos participated in the final battle and used this ability.
* {{Determinator}}: Silencia Venomosa. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by a quote from ''Film/TheTerminator''.

* DisconnectedByDeath: Happened a few times over the comm chatter, but also notably happened with [[spoiler:Adventure]].

** Also Bartholomew Enderson's sister Carrie Enderson, who also happens to be a successful [[TheBartender bartender]], and they both happen to be secret-keepers to two rival mercenaries.

* DistinguishedGentlemansPipe: Angel Eyes.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Athena Fabello.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Sarah Bishop does ''not'' like Brickolini's pizza.
** [[ItRunsInTheFamily It even runs in the family]], as it turns out her daughter can't stand it either.

** The TitleDrop in ''Because Of You'' is referring to Ronald Alexander: because he abducted Talia Kaahs and ruined her life, the story's events are set into motion. However, [=PeabodySam=] also considers the title to refer to Talia herself: because of her actions on November 5, 1958, she is directly responsible for three very different {{Alternate Timeline}}s.

** Specs too, [[TheUnreveal including (for the reader, anyways) when he is actually unmasked]]!
* FacelessGoons: When Quasifigus Hybrids wear their helmets.

* FallenHero: Kotua, Phantom, Spino, Raptor, Zachary Virchaus, and Oswald Fabello, to name a few examples.

* AFatherToHisMen: With some exceptions, many of the elite agents are like this.

** While not evil, per se, Amanda Claw was able to infuriate Trigger by smiling sweetly at him.

*** Numerous hints are dropped towards Amanda's backstory as Silencia Venomosa, which wouldn't be revealed until much later in the original version of the story. This includes her preference for being a KnifeNut, but her regret and old shame associated with that life.

* ChainPain: Dromus's weapon of choice. Used to be Amanda's weapon of choice, but after her ReTool which made her less of a Dromus {{Expy}}, she dropped the ChainPain in favor of being a KnifeNut.

** Most XERRD scientists are Expies of science-oriented characters from various forms of media, including Dr. Wily from ''VideoGame/MegaMan'', Dr. O'Brien of ''Literature/NineteenEightyFour'', and Dr. Insano of ''WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment''.

* AdultFear:
** Both Sarah Bishop and Helen Rutherford were worried sick about their children being out on the battlefield. Unfortunately, Kate is bullied by [[ColonelKilgore Rotor]] while Scout is killed by TheMole.
** Somewhat understandably, Sarah was uncertain when Andrew started to talk Kate into joining him, as she was worried about the very real possibility of Kate being killed in action.

* TheAmazon: Adventurers' Island is largely dominated by a jungle very similar to those of the Amazon rainforest.

* ExtyYearsFromNow: FUTURE arrived in the Dino Attack from the year 2035, which is 30 years after ''Dino Attack RPG'' began.
