There are also Character Cards you can collect, each featuring a character from throughout Scholastic's publications. You can assign them to your fighters, granting them some type of passive power-up, skill, or resistance, similar to Spirits in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' or how Help Komas worked in ''[[VideoGame/JumpSuperStars Jump Ultimate Stars.]]'' Also like in ''Smash Ultimate'', you collect these cards by defeating them in battles similar to Spirit Battles, with the [[AssetActor playable fighters as stand-ins for the characters]] and rulesets invoking [[MythologyGag references to the character's origins]]. Character Card Battles are fought in the game's Story Mode, which is similar to one present in ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Dissidia Duodecim]]'' in the sense that you play through a story, with your team of characters traveling through a world map and "dungeons", except the Manikin battles are replaced with Character Card Battles.

* CounterAttack: Fighters with counter attacks include David Levin, Blue, Rollan (but only when Essix is in passive state), Lief, Jaron, Fone Bone, Gregor, Voldemort, Draco, Snape (who uses Legilimency to read the opponent's mind and see their next move), and Matthew (whose ability to see visions of the future is translated to outright CombatClairvoyance in this game.)

* EnergyAbsorption: Both Blue and Haunted Mask have this in different ways. In Blue's case, she can absorb an attack, powering up her next move. As for Haunted Mask, she has a special move where she holds out Carly Beth's sculptured head on a broomstick. If the head is attacked, it's destroyed, healing the Haunted Mask.

** The Haunted Mask fights while holding a broom adorned with Carly Beth's sculptured head. With a special move, the Haunted Mask can hold out the head, and if it's attacked, it will be destroyed, healing the Haunted Mask. However, the Haunted Mask's moves using the broom will have less range until the head respawns.

* AttackReflector: Fighters with these include Harry Potter, Ron, Hermione, Voldemort, Snape, Marco, David, Lizzy, Snow, Kristy, Ms. Frizzle, Lief, Arthur, Matthew, and Blue.

* BoxingBattler: While the other ''Harry Potter'' fighters have normal moves that consist of using short-ranged spells, wand flicks and pokes, FullContactMagic and the like, many of Ron's normal moves is just him doing normal punches with his fists.

''Scholastic Books: Spellbinding Battles'' is a UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch video game that only exists in Tropers/{{Nexus}}' head. It's a MassiveMultiplayerCrossover TagTeam PlatformFighter using characters from various children's and YA books published by Scholastic.[[note]] When this troper first came up with this idea, he wasn't aware that some of these book series' have different publishers in different countries. This troper is American, so the game's representation consist of book series' published by Scholastic's U.S. branch.[[/note]]

* RageAgainstTheAuthor: Throughout the Story Mode, and as well as through their intro and victory quotes, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Dumbledore all treat Aster (who's a thinly-veiled transgender allegory) and Mr. Wolf (who cross dresses for one of his alternate costumes) with the utmost respect and acceptance, very unlike [[Creator/JKRowling their creator]]. Snape, meanwhile, does insult Aster and Mr. Wolf, like he does nearly everyone else on the roster, but even he stays away from making transphobic or anti-crossdressing remarks.
