** Most characters only refer to rich or powerful characters, such as Walter Amador, Oliver Kron, or the Ace Enforcement, by their surnames. This is because they're influential enough to be recognized by surname alone.

* BosssUnfavoriteEmployee:
** Warren is this from two sides. He was Gerard's least favorite rebel, even lower on the food-chain than the heavily-abused Emory, as he was the only one to try and call Gerard out on anything. Despite this, he was kept around, and even promoted to leader. Meanwhile, Graham also despises him, treating him like dirt on a regular basis even worse than the other servants. The only person who comes close to suffering as badly is Summer, but she escapes primarily because of Warren's existence and her ability to talk Graham into things.
** Bruno hates Candelaria with a passion and relegates her to just being a messenger and room-renter, even though her talents and status rank higher than that. He hates not only that she's a rebel who Gerard forced him to accept in the gang, but also that she has little respect for his leadership and is willing to call him out as much as she has to. As such, he puts her in situations where she'd die pretty often, and then tries to blame her when things go south.

** Constance will laugh at every lame joke Rainy makes, and will easily fall into any discussion about the books she reads.
** Emory. Catch him laughing at lame jokes and being overly excited about science. Also don't expect him to speak coherent English when he figures out a tough problem.
* TheAlcoholic:
** In addition to drinking an excessive amount most nights just to feel the buzz, Silver also suffers from drunken black-outs and struggles greatly with restricting herself.
** Emory has a recurring problem with alcohol. At the start of the story, he's a recovered alcoholic who struggles to stay sober.
** Candelaria spends every single night getting wasted, and spends every day sipping from a flask of whisky to keep the hangover away.
* AllLovingHero: Tate. Whether you're his best friend or his worst enemy, he is empathetic and compassionate, preferring to try and mend bridges over having a fight.
* ArcVillain: Robin is the main villain of the first book.
* ArtificialLimbs: [[spoiler:The General cut off Emory's fingers as a cruel punishment for betrayal. Without his fingers, he's unable to use the weapons he builds and designs. His solution? Turning this forced weakness into an opportunity. Building prototypes that can be used as artificial fingers will provide a better chance of taking the general down. Not like what the general did to him can be taken away, but he has to do something about the new disability.]]
* {{Asexuality}}: Warren has no interest in sex.

* BadDreams:
** Tate gets these following his mother's death. They range from re-watching the event to a multitude of more surreal and horrifying visuals.
** Carter has nightmares about Ari's death and his inability to avenge it.
** Cleo dreams about her life in the bar, even while safe at Emory's house.
** After [[spoiler:being tortured by Robin, Rainy has dreams of the torture cell.]]

* BadassBookworm: Emory's knowledge is his greatest threat. He knows how to take apart, build, and use every prototype. He knows what prototypes every ranked enforcer uses, and he knows what prototypes to use to counter them. Everything he knows combined with his sharp thinking skills makes him a worthy opponent.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Warren is Graham's "personal servant", which boils down to being the one he picks on the most, as well as the one dragged to events and even other people's homes to continue waiting on him hand and foot.
* BeneathTheMask: Emory's just a hardworking scientist who wants to be accepted, but apparently it's too much to ask for if it involves being himself.
* BerserkButton: Though Warren manages to remain in control (most of the time), do ''not'' compare him to Gerard. He is ''not'' Gerard and has no interest in ever ''being'' Gerard, so stop talking about Gerard. Oh, and do not mess with children around him. ''Ever.''
* TheBerserker: When Macie enters a fight, she doesn't hold back, and she doesn't retreat. She walks into every fight willing to defeat her opponent or die trying, and she always wins for a reason. Her opponents will hold back to avoid severe injury or death, meanwhile she gives 110% for each fight.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: Cleo may be quiet, but she has a temper, and it's not a good idea to push her. She ''will'' stand up for herself and her friends.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Tate, toward the Parkers (despite Constance being older), showing he ''is'' like his brother when he tries. He's non-confrontational, but he doesn't hesitate to play protector if one of his friends are in trouble.
* BigBrotherWorship: Tate toward his dead brother, Isaac, who he idolized for being everything Tate wished he could be: smart, strong, brave, and popular.
* BigEater: Ira loves to eat whenever he has the chance, and he'll eat as much as he can.

* BloodKnight: There's not a lot Macie loves more than a good fight. She often becomes overenthusiastic during field missions, and often creates more of a scene than any other rebel would.
* BoisterousBruiser: Macie is loud, she's proud, and she loves a good joke. She'll often be telling stories or jokes in between actions scenes of a field mission. Sometimes she's still laughing by the time she's blowing up enforcement cars up and chasing enforcers in circles.
* {{Bookworm}}: Constance has a fascination for books, and gathers a collection of illegal stories. Reading can be considered a method of coping and escape from the stressful environment she has lived in for most of her life.
* BookDumb: Tate, through no fault of his own, lacks the education to be truly considered smart. He is still observant, thoughtful, and a quick learner despite this.
* BreakTheCutie: Happens [[spoiler:to Rainy, thanks to Robin's torture, and Carter's sadistic choice.]]
* BreakThemByTalking: Robin [[spoiler:does this to Rainy, when he's in prison, by making threats against Constance's well-being.]] Also attempts to do it to Ira and then Tate during the riot.
* BrilliantButLazy: Robin could be quite good at his enforcement job, if he put as much effort into doing his job as he does to terrorizing the innocents in Seattle. [[BlatantLies But there's nothing to do, anyway.]]
* BrokenBird: Cleo's emotionally damaged and believes herself to be beyond the point of healing.
* BrutalHonesty: Macie can handle the truth and she'll tell everyone else how it is whether they handle it as well as her or not.
* TheBully: Robin only preys on those who can't fight back, and he'll go out of his way to see a weak person suffer.
* ButtMonkey: Emory has plans, expectations, and hopes, but they're all crushed easily. Unless it's a field mission (with few exceptions), don't expect anything to go well for him.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: The reason Tate joined the Parkers is that Robin burned down his farm and killed his mother, forcing him to leave his home for the first time in his life and travel the country.
* CallingTheOldManOut:
** Silver does this to her parents during the riot, after they [[AbusiveParents show more concern for their reputation than her well-being]] or the fact that the entire city is in chaos.
** Cleo nearly kills her own stepfather in a fit of rage, finally being able to confront him for his selling her to Oliver Kron.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: Warren takes his duties as a leader very seriously, and works hard to ensure the best conditions for each mission. If anything happens to his rebels, he does truly get upset, though he doesn't try to show it.
* TheChessmaster: Smart, calculating and skilled at thinking ahead, Warren operates as the mastermind behind the rebellion's plans and is skilled at convincing others with words alone.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Due to Constance's nature and her reputation as a Parker, she feels the need to help everyone she encounters. This can lead to her impulsively throwing herself in dangerous situations, and then experiencing waves of her severe GuiltComplex when she's unable to help someone, or something bad happens to the person she's trying to help.

* CombatPragmatist:
** Emory is willing to sink to any level to win a fight. This habit of his concerns Warren greatly.
** Bora cut through Ari's heel for the chance to steal his electro-dirk, punched Carter in the chest to escape after he disarmed her, and slit an enforcer's throat in the middle of a conversation.
** Carter'll swim through toxic flood water to take down Malignancy, he'll permanently scar an innocent citizen to put down a protest, and he'll attack an environment packed with dangerous gangsters for one serial killer.
* ConflictingLoyalty: Rainy is loyal to both Constance and the rebellion. With Constance being a rogue who would ally with even the rebellion's enemies to help her cause, it creates some friction.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Bora has one. After her mother was murdered, and she was forced into a kids home, she ran away leaving behind the friend she wanted to come with her. She erased her systematic from the database, in the process erasing anything she had left of her mother. She pushed forward to live in the slums of New York City before discovering more about systematics and figuring out how to steal identities..
* {{Dandere}}: Tate is shy to a fault, in part due to his broken past and in part due to his general isolation from society.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: One of Bora's most recognized threats by Carter. She did impersonate his best friend whom she killed, after all.
* DeadpanSnarker:
** Silver is incredibly sarcastic. She only mellows out around people she becomes comfortable around or otherwise respects.
** Tate. In spite of his kind-hearted nature, he develops a rather dry sense of humor, primarily through his interactions with the Parkers.
** Warren has his moments of being very dry and sarcastic, despite otherwise being a nice guy.

* DefiantCaptive: [[spoiler: Rainy. It may put him through extra hell, but at least he won't be giving Robin the simple job he expects.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: Bora is cold, cruel, and aloof, but is warming up to others with the help of Sefton.
* {{Determinator}}:
** Emory is kicked around from every direction, yet he barely comes out on top. He won't stop fighting until the rebellion wins.
** Rainy will never give in when someone he cares for is on the line.
** Nothing can stop Constance when there's someone who needs her help. Only passing out from exhaustion or having the person she's trying to help die will get her away from them.
** Ira's not one to step away in the middle of helping a patient, and he'll see a surgery to the end without a break. He's a hard worker despite his complaints and will finish any assignment Constance gives him. He's just as determined to not let their parents die in vain as Constance is.
** Once Cleo has her mind set on crushing the bar system, she doesn't let anything stand in her way.
** Bora's desire to win and topple the enforcement influence every decision she makes, and she refuses to give in.
** There is nothing that can stop Carter from going after his goals. Whether it's Bora, the rebellion, or the enforcers around him, trying to stop him will only make him try harder.
* DirtyCop: Robin would rather take advantage or even harm the innocents he is meant to protect than serve the law. He is a known psychopath, but the government looks the other way, as long as he doesn't harm anyone whose life is actually given any value.
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler:Rainy gets arrested and held captive by Robin, who tortures him in order to try and provoke Constance into turning herself in.]]
* DrowningMySorrows: Silver does this often. Being trapped in a family that doesn't respect her and surrounded constantly by cultists that only see her as the one embarrassment of her family takes its toll on her, so she drinks her feelings away.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Even after years of serving the rebellion faithfully under Gerard and serving for a year and a half as leader, some rebels still have issue accepting Warren's authority and compare him to Gerard constantly.

* EmotionSuppression: Carter can't give himself the time to grieve until he watches Bora die.
* ExtremeDoormat:
** Emory may seem tough and strict, but he's willing to bend to the will of anyone who treats him nicely.
** Tate passively does whatever people ask him to, until begins to grow his spine.
* FamilyBusiness: Constance and Ira are determined to carry their parents' legacy until they can correct the medical system.
* FarmBoy: Tate is just young man from a corn farm in Nebraska who ends up on a heroic journey.
* {{Flashback}}: Bora gets them. Small details can sometimes bring unwelcome flashbacks such as remembering her mother, or the friend who refused to follow her.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Constance is the responsible sibling who holds much more weight on her shoulders than Ira does. Ira, by comparison, is more laid-back and mischievous.
* ForgetsToEat: Emory is so wrapped up in his lab work that he constantly neglects his meal time.
* ForTheEvulz: Robin's reason for everything he does is for momentary amusement, and he gets his entertainment from causing other people to suffer.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Tate's an animal lover, and cares a lot about other people as well- even if they've hurt him in some way.
* FriendlessBackground: Tate was harshly bullied while in elementary school, and spent the rest of his life focused on working the farm; for this reason, he spent the longest time with his only companions being his mother and his cat.
* GainingTheWillToKill: After Cleo kills [[spoiler:her boss]], she finds murder to be much easier when facing other enemies, to where it becomes her preferred method of handling her situation.
* GenkiGirl: Macie has more energy than she knows what to do with. Because of her energetic nature she can last sometimes longer in the lab than Emory, and has a lot of energy to spare during field missions.
* GentleGiant: Tate may be large and muscular, but he's still a sweet-heart to the core.
* GenreSavvy: Ira can see things that other characters usually can't see due to the amount of media he consumes. He can do things such as predict the result of a situation, leading to him avoiding conflicts and being better off than everyone else in a way.
* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies: Ira purposely avoids playing any horror films during the road trip because Constance isn't able to stand them with out screaming or curling up to Rainy.
* GoodIsNotDumb:
** Constance cares deeply about education and knows enough about each school subject to tutor Ira and Tate without an issue. Most of her knowledge is in the medical field, which she uses every day to save lives.
** Warren, while heroic, is anything but unintelligent, priding himself in his critical-thinking and analytical skills.
** Ira can pick an important piece of information from a casual conversation with little effort, his schooling is advanced and he tackles homework without difficulty, he can track statistics and draw important conclusions from it, and he's one hell of an opponent in chess. Ira is anything but dumb.
* GoodIsNotSoft:
** Constance will viciously fight back against anyone who tries to harm her or the people she cares about.
** Emory may be a sweetheart, but he's not one to be crossed; he'll even topple buildings if it means winning.

* GrewASpine: Tate slowly, but surely, as he travels with the Parkers and Macie; he not only learns to handle conflict and fight back, he grows much more confident in himself and his abilities.
* GuiltComplex: Constance chronically shoulders all the blame whenever something goes wrong, due to the pressure of trying to live up to her parent's high standards and the responsibility of walking in their footsteps.
* HeroWithBadPublicity:
** Silver is a genuinely compassionate and heroic person, but she's disliked on both sides for being both wealthy and defiant. She's slandered constantly, and her good traits are never acknowledged.
** Bora is considered to be a serial-killer, despite her heroic motivations and her genuine care about other people.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Emory's two major personas are either sickeningly polite but shallow or rude and abrasive, but in reality he's a genuinely nice guy.

* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: Happens to Rainy when Constance gets stabbed. After being tortured for days and being tormented by the thoughts of Constance being hurt by Robin and the other enforcers in even worse ways, seeing her actually get hurt and nearly die takes a toll on him, and it makes him shutdown. ]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Constance jumping in front of Savage so that she would be stabbed by an electro-dirk instead of him.]] It wasn't fatal, though.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Rainy and Savage. They even share a room together, despite being entirely platonic. [[spoiler:At least, on Rainy's side...]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters:
** Cleo's [[spoiler:killing of Kron]] is only the beginning of her journey into darkness. The more people she fights, the worse she becomes.
** Carter will go as far as it takes to kill Bora, but what happens after that? If he succeeds, he'll have his revenge, but only time would be able to tell what kind of person he would be by then.
* HonorBeforeReason: Constance would rather act on what would be morally right over what would be smart, such as giving her own blood to patients in need.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: The Prime Minister, Gerard, and Carter all have something in common; Emory never saw their mistreatment toward him coming.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Bora is full of surprises, and will never let someone see there's more to her than they think until it's too late.
* TheIdealist: Tate. Even in the CrapsackWorld he lives in, he does believe that most people are good and refuses to believe any stereotypes about groups even if they've been predominantly bad in the past.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Silver joined the rebellion, in part, because she's lonely and wanted people to connect with. It worked.
* TheInsomniac: Warren's brain is too active to allow him to sleep, and the middle of the night is the only time he can actually take a break. He often only gets three hours of sleep a night, and seems only able to function because of caffeine.
* InsufferableGenius: Warren, on occasion. Mostly when it comes to his cooking skill, where he has the tendency to be a bit of a food snob.
* InsurrectionistInheritor: He and Gerard ''hated'' each other, but as Warren's intelligence came out in their arguing, Gerard decided he'd make the best successor.
* ItAmusedMe: Everything Robin does is for his own amusement in the moment. Unfortunately for others, his amusement comes from the suffering of others.
* IWorkAlone: Bora would've loved to continue working alone, and tried to make Sefton back off. He didn't listen.
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Bora likes to mock and enrage the people she's fighting with just as much as she does to beat them up. She's not satisfied until she's inside of her opponent's head.
** Robin is...not a nice person. He's a cruel, petty bully.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Macie isn't the nicest person, but she's incredibly protective toward the ones she cares about, and will show them her kindness.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler: Robin dies the very way Tate's mother died; in fire. It's at the hands of Tate as well.]]
* KindheartedCatLover: Tate's best friend is his cat, Pepper, who he'd raised since she was a kitten.
* KnightTemplar: Carter's motivation as an enforcer is that he's doing the right thing. He will do horrible things to enforce his moral code, but his actions are justified in his mind.
* LackOfEmpathy: Robin fully believes that anyone who is too weak to stand up to him deserve what they get, no matter how cruel or pointless their punishment is.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: There's nine characters with a point of view, and many, many more supporting characters, minor characters and background characters

to:

* LetsGetDangerous: Ira seems like a softer risk taker than Constance, and he seems more comedic, but that's only because he hasn't been in a situation that needed him to be anything else. When [[spoiler:Constance is severely injured, and he has to take her place,]] he'll step up, and surprise everyone around him with his seriousness while healing and willingness to fight for what he believes in. [[spoiler:This also appears when he and Constance agree to split up. He makes more decisions himself while traveling with Savage and Tate.]]
* LittleGuyBigBuddy: Tate and Ira. Played with in that Ira can take care of himself and is the smarter and more experienced of the duo; Tate simply has the muscle and the BigBrotherInstinct that leads him towards protecting Ira when needed.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: There's nine eight characters with a point of view, and many, many more supporting characters, minor characters and background characterscharacters.
* LonelyRichKid: Silver has spent much of her childhood with no companion other than her study-obsessed brother, Gold. Even as an adult, she's still very lonely. Her only friends, who she made while in martial-arts, she was forced to abandon by her parents due to being much wealthier than them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Tropes M-Z]]
* ManipulativeBastard: Bora manipulates the database, alterations, the enforcement, Corrosion Plaza, the rebels who support her, the lives of the people she kills, and even her own systematic.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Tate's older brother was strong and brave, and his younger sister was beautiful, and the baby of the family. Meanwhile he was always shy and quiet, was practically forgotten about when his siblings got sick, and still feels like his being the only surviving sibling was a fluke. When traveling with the Parkers, this flares up once again, despite not actually being their brother; Constance and Ira are both famous, smart and skilled, while he just sees himself as the friend that helps them go places.
* MinoredInAsskicking: Warren isn't a field rebel, but he can fight just as well as anyone else when it comes down to it. He just chooses not to most of the time.
* MissionControl: Warren's role is to make the plans and keep contact with his rebels while they are in the field.

* MoralityPet: Bora may be a cruel jerk, but she cares about Sefton deeply, and will go out of her way to protect him.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Warren has a bit of a coffee addiction. It's the only thing that keeps him functional, as his insomnia and workload make it hard to do anything otherwise.
* NervousWreak: Emory. Every social interaction, rebel decision, and career focused project must be examined closely until he finds something to be worried about.
* NeverAcceptedInHisHometown: Macie ran away in her teen years due to wanting to rebel against her family's values. She wouldn't be able to return even if she wanted to.
* NeverMyFault: Anyone who dares to imply Robin could ever be wrong is swiftly told otherwise.
* NiceGuy:
** Warren. Beneath his cool leaderly mask is a person with a big heart. He usually manages to stick to acting professional, but he has no interest in abusing his power and does his best to treat everyone respectfully and compassionately.
** Rainy is charismatic, easy-going, and sweet.
** Ira is friendly to everyone, even though he doesn't stay in one place long enough to make friends.
** Tate is kind and compassionate to the core, even offering his own bed to the Parkers in their first ever meeting.
** Emory is a genuinely sweet guy who would do anything for the people he cares for.
* NiceToTheWaiter: Silver'll go out of her way to be nice to her family's servants, or any other member of the lower-class, for that matter.
* NonActionGuy:
** Warren's strengths lie in analysis and strategy, rather than field work. This leads him to be good at making general plans, but poor at directing field rebels.
** Rainy is not a fighter. He sticks to the sidelines and helps other people out, rather than work directly.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Warren, as a servant. He is only his boss, Graham's, assistant in the first place due to being too intelligent to not keep an eye on, and he doesn't want to make anyone suspicious.
* ObliviouslyEvil: Carter knows the enforcement has a bad track record, but he firmly believes that he himself is good and moral even when he's committing atrocities.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Carter constantly holds back information while trying to solve the serial killer case to ensure that he'll be the one to take Bora down.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: Emory has the bad tendency to say the worst things at the worst times, despite meaning well.

* PapaWolf: Warren is very protective over children due to his experience living in a children's home. ''Especially'' the six children that he works with while doing his servant duties. He practically becomes their ParentalSubstitute.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Macie commits evil actions against the enforcement without much empathy.
* PopCulturedBadass: Ira loves movies and TV shows. Can sometimes solve problems due to seeing a similar situation from a show or movie that he watched.
* {{Pride}}:
** Constance is extremely prideful of following in her parents footsteps, especially while facing someone who opposes her. Her pride gives her the strength to not let anyone push her around, but also prevents her from accepting help.
** While shy and sweet, Tate's still got enough pride to reject being paid by Constance and Ira. He's a hard worker who prefers to rely on his own abilities, although he's not too stubborn to be convinced otherwise.

* PromotionToParent: Constance is left with no choice but to raise Ira on her own due to her parents being publicly executed. Rainy and Savage helped during her years of college, but she's always his parental guardian at the end of the day.
* TheQuietOne: Cleo doesn't talk a whole lot, and when she does it's usually kept short and sweet.

* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: The reason Tate joined the Parkers is that Robin burned down his farm and killed his mother, forcing him to leave his home for the first time in his life and travel the country.

to:

* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: The reason Tate joined the Parkers is that Robin burned RevengeBeforeReason: Carter was willing to send enforcers into a dangerous battle against gang members, all to try and track down his farm and killed his mother, forcing him to leave his home for the first time in his life and travel the country.Bora.

* TheRival: Bora and Warren are rivals to each other, both working with the goal of defeating the enforcement, but unwilling to let the other person have the victory.
* SadisticChoice: [[spoiler: Rainy, between Constance and the Rebellion. He chooses Constance.]]
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight:
** Constance is willing to break any law if it means she can do the right thing.
** Ira likes to break the rules, but it's even better when he breaks the rules for the right reason. Nothing is more satisfying than smirking through a lecture to later tell Constance he told her so when she realizes he was in the right all along.
* SherlockScan: Warren is a master at expression reading and picking up on subtle clues.
* SeriouslyScruffy:
** Constance'll walk around healing people while wearing clothes soaked through with blood. It may be a horrifying look on her, but she has more people to heal. If she takes a shower and change her clothes she'll only stain another outfit with blood an hour later.
** Emory only bothers to care for his appearance when he's appearing in front of the reporters or people of status. Otherwise, he's constantly unkempt and more interested in work than grooming.
* SexSlave: Cleo starts out as one of these, working in a sex bar under a man named Oliver Kron. Her job amounted to being purchased by wealthy clients for sexual use, with the only restrictions being that she isn't allowed to be straight-up tortured. She's far from the only person stuck in this situation, and the bars are legal.
* SiblingsinCrime: Ira and Constance are a brother-and-sister pair that break the law to save lives.
* SlaveLiberation: Once Cleo frees herself and her friends, her goal is to free everyone else from the bar system as well.
* SlaveToPR: Astor only cares about looking good in the eyes of the media and being powerful. He has to work extremely hard to keep himself and the other Ace Enforcers in good standing.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Emory's a nice guy, but don't expect anyone to hold a comfortable conversation with him until they know him really well.
* TheSociopath: Robin is a psychopath, to be specific. He's cold, manipulative, shallow, impulsive, and lacks any form of conscience.
* StepfordSmiler: The famous scientist Dr. Emory Warlow is never in a sour mood. He can hide any emotion with a thick mask of sugar if a Melorist so much as looks in his general direction. In reality, he's got a ton of problems he's trying to hide.
* StepfordSnarker: Most people only know Silver as the sarcastic and defiant Amador girl, but that is because most have never seen her in a place where she feels happy and comfortable. Her parent's parties are not it.
* TheStraightAndArrowPath: Cleo's favored weapon is the electro-crossbow, which was a regular crossbow modified by Emory.
* TheStrategist: Warren's main job is to come up with plans that the other members of the rebellion follow. He never stops thinking of new ideas and ways to deal with whatever problem may occur.
* StrongGirlSmartGuy: Silver forms this sort of duo with Emory, where she relies on her fighting abilities and he on his intelligence.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Silver is snarky and cold at first, but she's a truly nice person to people she trusts and respects.
* SuicideMission: Gerard loved to send Emory out on missions designed to kill him. His miraculous survival only meant more missions.
* SupremeChef: Warren loves to cook and will take any opportunity to do so. He would pursue owning his own restaurant, if he weren't trapped working for Graham. His food is often considered incredible.
* ThickerThanWater: Nothing can get Ira to do something that effects Constance negatively, and if it came down to choosing to help himself or Constance, he'd choose Constance every time.
* ThouShaltNotKill:
** Silver. In contrast to most other characters, she has an aversion to killing her opponents. She's willing to get her hands dirty so long as nothing she does is fatal.
** Tate's belief is that killing anybody is wrong unless it's absolutely necessary. Even then, [[spoiler:he's upset after he kills Robin.]]
* TooHungryToBePolite: Much to Constance's dismay, Ira will throw all manner's away the moment there's a plate of food in front of him.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Tate beings the story as an ExtremeDoormat who hates conflict. He eventually becomes a confident and heroic field rebel.
** Cleo starts out as a quiet and unassuming SexSlave whose biggest contribution to the rebellion is helping Emory and Macie with lab work. Once she gets the chance to free herself and her friends, she quickly adapts to field work.
* TookALevelInJerkAss: Cleo. Due to her extreme focus on destroying every sex bar she comes across while also punishing her enemies, she becomes much colder and much less empathetic.
* TraumaButton: Being down in the dark mine reminds Rainy [[spoiler:of the cell]].
* TrophyChild: The Amador children are treated by their parents like an extension of their company at best, and are bullied into staying in line and being outwardly perfect.
* UndyingLoyalty: Emory'll die before his loyalty does. In fact, his loyalty has driven him closer to death than anything has before.
* TheUnfavorite:
** Cleo to her stepfather, [[AbusiveParents which is why he sent her to the bar in order to support his biological daughter.]]
** Played with, in the case of Silver. She seems to be ''favored'' at first glance because her father insists on her taking over the FamilyBusiness and refuses any offer from her sister, Ruby; But, digging deeper reveals that it's a ploy to gain control over her by threatening to cut her off unless she plays along and takes over the business. Silver is the one Amador sibling that does not play into cult values, and her parents can't stand that.
* UndyingLoyalty: Ira would never think of leaving Constance in any way, and will take up his role as a Parker if needed no matter what he has to sacrifice.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Rainy is more than willing to support Constance, however crazy and dangerous her life gets for both herself and him.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: Some rebels and enforcers fit into this category, using far more force than necessary to complete a goal they truly believe in. [[spoiler:So does Jack Clarke, starting the current government in an attempt to push America out of a crippling depression.]]

* {{Workaholic}}: Warren rarely has a moment where he is able to relax, either due to his rebel work or his servant work.

* WorthyOpponent: Warren with Bora. Both are leaders of groups focused on taking down the government, but favor different tactics. As such, they're allies on their best days and rivals at worst.

It is a very long story, over three hundred pages currently, and still a WIP. It is not available online ''yet'', but a website made to host the story is being planned and should be launched soon.

* AmicableExes: Constance and Rainy. Not that they are purely ''platonic...'', as both still have serious feelings for each other.
* BadGuyBar: The sex bars, where the sex slaves are purchased, tend to be a popular spot for the more lecherous enforcers and Meliorists.
* BigLabyrinthineBuilding: Corrosion Plaza, a fallen building with seemingly endless rooms and hallways to get lost exploring.
* BlackMarketProduce: Such as "Jerky Flavored Meat in a Can". From a vending machine.
* CityNoir: Seattle has become one of these, due to the pollution, [[BuildingOfAdventure the gang-run Corrosion Plaza]], and [[CorruptCop the terrible enforcement]]. New York City is a larger scale version, with similar problems on an exaggerated scale.
* CrapsackWorld: A world with [[SexSlave sex slaves]], orphans forced into hard labor, extremely corrupt and over-powered law enforcers, and no proper health care for anyone besides the wealthy.
* {{Cult}}: The Meliorist Church is considered to be one InUniverse. Devoted Meliorists are called the derogatory name "cultists" by the lower class citizens, and a lot of their followers express an interest in conformity, law-following and being as perfect as possible.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Warren's parents and Bora's mother, who are all long dead, were loving parents who did their best to care for their kids despite the poor circumstances.
* {{Dystopia}}: Specifically, an extreme-capitalist dystopia with a ruthless law enforcement, {{SexSlave}}s, and extreme wealth disparity.
* GoodParents: Olivia Warlow, a sweet-as-sugar old lady who cares about Emory more than anything in the world.
* HerBoyfriendsJacket: Constance ''loves'' Rainy's jacket, even though they are no longer officially dating. She takes any opportunity to steal it.
* IconOfRebellion: A Phoenix, to symbolize that the rebellion rose from the "ashes" of the people's anger, and that the rebellion will never die.
* LaResistance: Created by Gerard and now led by Warren, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "The Rebellion"]] fights to overthrow the dystopian government. Bora's faction, though different from The Rebellion in methods and attitude, are working for the same goal.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: There's nine characters with a point of view, and many, many more supporting characters, minor characters and background characters
* MoralityKitchenSink: Characters on all sides fall on the morality spectrum. Heroic characters such as Silver Amador and Constance Parker ally with AntiHero characters like Macie Daniel and Bora, while the enforcement has characters who range from being the TokenGoodTeammate {{AntiVillain}}s to AxCrazy {{BloodKnight}}s.
* OppressiveStatesOfAmerica: The poorer one is, the worst the people in power treat them. The middle class, for example, is tolerated but looked down upon; servants and other workers, meanwhile, are little more than slaves.
* OrphanageOfFear: The children's homes, which are cramped, cold, heavily guarded by armed enforcers, and serve only to provide basic shelter and food to the orphaned children who spend their days working in mines, factories, as servants, or in other low paying, potentially risky, jobs. The treatment of the children within them range from neglect to serious and consistent physical abuse.
* PresidentEvil: President Jane Stirling, current cult president. Cult founder John Clarke and his successor Caldwell fit, as well. [[spoiler:At least, as far as Clarke goes, that's the rumor.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Carter's goal against Bora, due to her murder of his best friend, Ari Glass.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: The reason Tate joined the Parkers is that Robin burned down his farm and killed his mother, forcing him to leave his home for the first time in his life and travel the country.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeVillified: One of Warren's goals as the new rebel leader, following the near-terrorism style rebelling Gerard became famous for.
* UrbanSegregation: Practically in all major cities, most notably in Seattle and Denver, where the wealthiest members of the community live in luxury while the rest of the city is living in some form of poverty.
* ViceCity: New York has become this, being overrun by gangs, pollution, flooding, and poverty. The wealthy fled when they could, leaving the poor to suffer in the mess.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Some rebels and enforcers fit into this category, using far more force than necessary to complete a goal they truly believe in. [[spoiler:So does Jack Clarke, starting the current government in an attempt to push America out of a crippling depression.]]
* WeUsedToBeFriends: [[spoiler:Warren and Bora, who knew each other from the kid's home but broke up when Warren refused to run away with her.]]
* WeWillUseManualLaborInTheFuture: Modern mining and factory tools, safety measures and age-restrictions are ditched in favor of cheap labor for the benefit of the wealthy business owners.
* WorldOfBadass: People of all sides are powerful opponents. Many know some degree of hand-to-hand combat and are proficient in at least one weapon of choice. These skills are necessary in trying to combat their equally-skilled opponents, and for some, just to survive in the setting.
