The studio would come to serve as the company's main television animation production studio, with programming initially being produced for syndication before the creation of ''WesternAnimation/TheDisneyAfternoon'' programming block in 1990, followed by [[Creator/AmericanBroadcastingCompany ABC]]'s ''Creator/{{One Saturday Morning|AndABCKids}}'' in 1997. Currently, the studio is an asset of Disney Branded Television, producing content for two of Disney Branded Television's TV channels (Creator/DisneyChannel, which is aimed at older kids and general audiences, and Creator/DisneyJunior, which is almost exclusively aimed at younger children), as well as the Creator/DisneyPlus streaming service; while Disney Television Animation no longer produces programs specifically for Creator/DisneyXD (the third of Disney Branded Television's Disney-branded TV channels), its current Disney Channel programming is generally also aired on there as well. Originally established as the Walt Disney Pictures Television Animation Group, the studio's name was changed to Walt Disney Television Animation in 1988 before being shortened to just Disney Television Animation in 2011. In the mid-2000s, programming intended for the Jetix action block and international networks were produced under the banner of ''Jetix Animation Concepts'' (a joint venture between WDTVA and Jetix Europe, then a legally-separate company).
