In general, the TwoFistedTales featuring the characters are pastiches of various genres of comic books and pulp heroes, though very much so with a modern sensibility and new takes on tropes used. The tone ranges from the wacky to the deadly serious, though Tom himself rarely strays far from stoicism. It also serves as a fun counterpoint to the severe deconstruction of pulp sensibilities that was the foundation of Moore's ''Comicbook/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen''. It also saw the revival of some of the obscure Nedor Comics stable, who are PublicDomain.

** The "Tom Strong Family" in #13 comprise Tom, his younger self, Tesla, Warren Strong from the FunnyAnimal universe, and a mysterious white-bearded Time-Keeper [[spoiler:implied to be his future self]], counterparts to Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, Mary Marvel, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny and the wizard Comicbook/{{Shazam}}. A {{reconstruction}} ScienceHero Adventure Comic Book series created by Creator/AlanMoore, first published in 1999 by the Creator/AmericasBestComics imprint. The series lasted for 36 issues (June 1999-May 2006), though Moore left after #22, returning for the final issue. The other issues were written by different guest writers, including Creator/GeoffJohns, Creator/BrianKVaughan and Creator/EdBrubaker.

** An alternate Tom is asked how he can be a cowboy if it's the year 2000. Cowboy Tom guesses that the "[[EnforcedTechnologyLevels great malechanical progress abolition" never happened on other worlds.

** Tom and Solomon find an old West town whose population were abducted by aliens and brought back in the modern day. They leave the town as is and promises not to tell anybody they're there.
** An alternate Tom is asked how he can be a cowboy if it's the year 2000. Cowboy Tom guesses that the "great malechanical progress abolition" never happened on other worlds.

** The ''Robots of Doom'' miniseries ends with Tesla marrying Val Var Garm and subsequently informing her father that he will be a grandfather. Tesla later gives birth to a daughter by the end of the subsequent ''Planet of Peril'' miniseries, which also concludes with the Terra Obscura heroes Pyroman and the Red Queen being blessed with a child.

** The ''Robots of Doom'' miniseries ends with Tesla marrying Val Var Garm and subsequently informing her father that he will be a grandfather.

* BabiesEverAfter: The 35th issue caps off Greta Gabriel's newfound love in Pericles Permafrost by showing on the last page that she is pregnant with his child.

** Princess Pantha from ''Terra Obscura''.

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: One of Tom's enemies is an immortal Nazi named Ingrid Weiss, who even goes as far as to make racist insults towards Tom's wife Dhalua.
* PorkyPigPronunciation: Pneuman's speech is constantly interrupted by popping, hissing, and clicking noises, sometimes several times before he can finish a sentence.

* {{Expy}}: Tom is more than a little reminiscent of Literature/DocSavage. He bears a number of similarities with Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic of the ComicBook/FantasticFour.

* ImADoctorNotAnX: When the Clan Saveen need a fire extinguisher, all they have are shrink rays and dissolvo-beams. One of them says that they're science villains and not firemen.

* AWizardDidIt: Invoked almost at gunpoint in issue 9, with Kid Tilt's ability to, well, tilt the world. "They are ''magic'' boots." [[spoiler:Although since this turned out to be a tall tale Tesla was spinning to try and fob her parents off about the messy aftermath of a party she threw in their absence.]]
