* LockedOutOfTheLoop: After escaping Caroll's bunker, reporter Sonja drives right to New York in a car with no radio to tell her story to her editor. The guy realizes that Sonja is literally the last person on Earth to know [[spoiler: the end of the world is coming.]]

Added DiffLines:

* SmugSnake: Caroll to a T. As [[spoiler: the end is coming, he shows up at the White House, bragging he's there to "save the day" and taking it for granted Blades will step aside and let him take over. Blade's response is to take a gun from a Secret Service agent and fire it at a terrified Carroll, then point out that no one agent was doing anything to stop him. He puts Carroll in his place as having zero power whatsoever and "saving the world stopped being your job when your term ended."]]

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: President Blades is Latino, so his name is actually pronounced "Blah-dezz" (two syllables) not "Blaydz" (one syllable, like "knife blades"). The comic directly points this out when it is mentioned that the new high-tech Project Monolith units have been nicknamed "Blades Brigades" - and it is remarked that while it is alliterative, it ''does not'' rhyme due to the way the president's name is pronounced.

Added DiffLines:

* GoneHorriblyWrong: [[spoiler: Hundreds of millions of years ago, the alien Builders had seemingly peaked as a species, having totally colonized and 'harmonized' with their solar system; they do not have the resources to expand further and hence their species is stagnating and being forced to cull its own birthrate to prevent total exhaustion. Three Builders come up with a plan to utilize a device of their making, linked to the gigantic Dyson-Sphere esque infrastructure that connects their whole interplanetary society, to collect "an unusually high gamma ray burst" that will emit from a nearby dying star which will give the species enough power to go on for many more generations and expand outside their system. Somehow, the energy interacts in a wholly unexpected way with the system, which not only destroys the Builder's entire society, leaving the three 'gatherers' as the [[LastOfHisKind last of their kind]], but somehow turns the resulting energy mass into an all-consuming oblivion that begins to slowly be drawn into the center of the Milky Way, meaning that it will, over the course of many millions of years, eventually 'eat' the entire galaxy until there's nothing left. Few things in fiction have gone as wrong as that.[[note]]And to twist the knife even harder, the Builders don't seem to be malevolent or desire 'conquest' as their reason for expanding; they simply want their children to have the same open possibilities as they had, and more importantly for two of the three 'gatherers', so that they won't have to only pick three of their 'buds' to have and 'dispose' of the rest. And on top of THAT, their science is untested, but only because they had nothing to run an actual test ON. It's indicated they've run hundreds of simulations, only to have the real world 'blow up in their face' in the worst way.[[/note]]]]
