* MeaningfulName / ShoutOut: It can't be a coincidence that he shares the name of one of the main characters in WebVideo/MarbleHornets, while his son fights against the same creature that the same protagonist encountered.

* EldritchAbomination / HumanoidAbomination: Their faces may look familiar, but no Collective member is truly human after they join. Firebrand downright calls themselves "puppets meant to manipulate [our] world through mortal vessels".

* ANaziByAnyOtherName / ThoseWackyNazis: HABIT confirms he was a Nazi soldier that he worked with sometime before being inducted into the Collective's ranks.

* PsychopathicManchild / TheSociopath: Seems to have little care whatsoever for his past self, and seems to be more interested in having some cheap laughs than actually teaching Noah anything.

* LivingMacGuffin / SnarkyInanimateObject: Was this until Noah finally opened it.

* BriefcaseFullOfMoney: Firebrand gives him this along with the [[ForegoneConclusion gun he will use to shoot Mary Asher]] in Milo's Tape. Afterwards, he delivers that same briefcase minus the gun to Noah in Obituary along with several of his own belongings, including said tape, [[LivingMacGuffin his journal]], a handwritten note, a sudoku Rubix cube, and some old loafers.

* EasyAmnesia: When Milo discovers his journal in 2003, he notes that he has little to no memory of any of the entries he wrote as a child from 1995-97. As it turns out, the pills that he takes action as some kind of beta-blockers that prevent him from remembering things well.

* BigDamnHeroes: Gives an eight-year old Milo a drive home to his Aunt Jo's house after the latter discover's Karl's safe.

* SlasherSmile: Pulls off a rather impressive one during the second part of the Thanksgiving Day footage.]]

* SanitySlippage: During Season One, the Observer usually stays quite cam and collected as he taunts Noah constantly. However, during INTERCEPTION and DEATHTRAPEXODUS, Observer is shown swearing openly, as well as manically laughing more than before. He even starts smoking cigarettes as he laughs!

* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: Due to the constant suffering and insanity The Collective inflict upon him Noah has become a lot more cavalier when faced with his daily eldritch horrors. Best shown in "facade" where when channel surfing between squicky imagery and horrifying visuals, he sounds positively ''bored''.

** InSeriesNickName: Karl Maxwell calls Slendy "Der Großmann", German for "the Great/Tall Man" that his grandmother told stories about. Mary Asher refers to him as Mr. Slim for all of her life. Noah casually calls him Daddy Longlegs in DEUS EX MACHINA. [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID HABIT]] calls him "Stick-in-the-mud" in his letter to Noah. And Milo refers to him as "the big man" in his journal entries from the 90's, and occasionally in his teen years.

* NoPunctuationPeriod: Not only does the Observer not use any punctuation in his online messages, but he also rarely ever uses the space bar. The few times he does, it's to separate entire sentences rather than words. When a fan asked him why he does this, he claimed it's because it's "easier" for him, and that the realm he's in "has no space".

* SpellMyNameWithAThe: He's the only Collective member sans The Administrator to have "the" in his name.

** This trope also applies him during Milo's childhood. During a journal entry in 1995, Milo writes that he and Kevin played ''VideoGame/SpyroTheDragon'' during a sleepover at the latter's house. This is despite the fact that ''Spyro'' wasn't released until ''1998'', three years later. Noah is understandably confused by this.

* [[IHaveNoSon I Have No Daughter]]: The moment Mary Asher tells Karl that she can see "Mr. Slim", he immediately disowns her. He also refuses to allow her to inherit Sebastian's journal after he dies, [[JustifiedTrope although this is likely because he knows how dangerous it would be to give her such a powerful tome]].

* [[AndIMustScream And We Must Scream]]: It's been implied that joining the Collective is ''not'' a pleasant experience.

* NamesTheSame: He's Noah Maxwell from an alternate future. Subverted in that he and [[PhysicalGod Firebrand]], while both different incarnations of Noah, are different entities entirely.

* LightIsNotGood: Don't let that familiar face and light clothing fool you, this version of Noah is a KnifeNut who is more than willing to [[ItAmusedMe slice your hand open for a cheap laugh]], and later laugh in your face as you try (and fail) to roll a [[{{Film/Jumanji}} five or an eight]] to escape the hell he's been living in for so long.

* DarkIsNotEvil: When Noah encounters him, he's wearing solid black clothing. [[SanitySlippage Unlike]] [[KnifeNut the previous]] [[LightIsNotGood Noah]], he actually makes an effort to help Noah understand what's going on.

* HellIsThatNoise: Whenever Slender Man attempts to make vocal noises, he ends up making a horrifying inhuman growling sound. As Mongo, [[UpToEleven it's replaced by loud, animalistic screeches]].

And yet, his persistence in following and watching everything Noah does is immeasurable.

* {{Expy}}: The creator of the series based the Observer on Kevin from ''ComicBook/SinCity'', in that both are ([[CharacterizationMarchesOn initially]]) quiet, antagonistic figures with ScaryShinyGlasses who stalk the main character. Bonus points in that the Observer's host is literally ''named'' Kevin.

* FandomNickname: Slendy's GiantSpider form goes Mongo amongst fans and the creator of the series.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: And within her own family too! To elaborate: Her father, Karl Maxwell disowned her at a young age once she told him she could see Slender Man, her second husband John Fletcher divorces her five years after they are married with very few positive things to say about her, Kevin Haas heavily disliked her due to her dismissive and nasty attitude towards him, Alex Maxwell (Noah's father) apparently had a run-in with Mary after she assumed he was attacking her, her own son Milo ends up murdering her in cold blood as Mr. Scars after [[CallingTheOldWomanOut calling out every terrible thing she did to him]] (although he does show quite a bit of regret about her murder), and Noah's future self regards Mary as a fucking asshole, and a terrible selfish woman to live under. Not even Mary's sister Sharon cries during her funeral.
