* HollywoodNerd: Janzo is portrayed by a handsome actor, but frequently wears large spectacles, has messy hair, and is usually hunched over. Initially, he's also a virgin who has no relationships due to his poor social skills (but later this changes). Added to that, he seems possibly autistic and is highly knowledgeable of science.

* RapunzelHair: Naya's hair reaches down to her hips.

* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Of all of the Masters, he's the only one that seems to not be a total dickhead who wants to take over the world. He loves humans, Blackbloods and does all he can to protest them from his evil kin. [[spoiler:In fact, he sired the Blackblood race by having a child with a human woman, while they're all descended from this union.]]

* FiveManBand: Talon is TheLeader, Garret is the BigGuy, Janzo is the SmartGuy, Gwynn is TheHeart, while Garret, Janzo, and Gwynn all share [[TheLancer Lancer]] duties.

** Garret and Janzo are both essentially everything the other one isn't. Janzo [[SmartGuy has brains]] while Garret [[BigGuy has brawn]]. Garret is strong and action oriented while Janzo is [[NonActionGuy weak and more behind the scenes]]. Garret has a traditionally masculine appeal to him while Janzo has a cute and nerdy NiceGuy appeal to him. Garret is more [[IdealHero noble and heroic]] while Janzo is more [[DeadpanSnarker quirky and snarky]]. Garret is popular with the ladies while Janzo is less successful in that regard.

* MixedAncestry: It's said in the second season that Talon isn't a "pure" Blackblood, though how this is known or the reason is not explained.
