[[AllThereInTheManual An audio drama]] actually does show him rambling to Hakuryuu when it's just the two of them and claiming that he's had too much, however, indicating that it might be less about not ''getting'' drunk and more about having so much self-control that his behavior never changes. Either way, it just adds to his UncannyValley factor.

* HotScientist: Much like Dr. Hwang, he's also quite attractive, especially for a [[soiler: former monk]].

* HotScientist: A very attractive female, she's never seen without her pinkish labcoat.

* DeathSeeker: Sanzo carries around ''immense'' survivor's guilt from watching his mentor die to protect him; he constantly pushes himself past his limits, taunts dangerous demons, and his WeaponOfChoice is a snub-nose revolver specifically so it's easier to commit suicide with if he had to.

* DarkSkinnedRedhead: His appearance.

* DarkSkinnedBlond: Her skin color is rather dark.

* CoolPet: He's a dragon that can turn into a Jeep. It doesn't get any cooler than that.

* SimpleStaff: Although dismissing Nyoi-Bou as "just a stick" is a big mistake.

* HandsomeLech: He's good-looking, he knows it, and uses it to his advantage to flirt with any pretty girl he sees.

* RapunzelHair: his long ponytail reaches down to his thighs

* {{Bishounen}}: The group as a whole is very pretty.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: His origin, Zhu Bajie, is a ''PigMan''. Hakkai, on the other hand? An extremely attractive [[{{Bishonen}} pretty boy]] with [[Creator/AkiraIshida attractive voice]] to match.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Purple in the ''Gensoumaden'' anime; blue in Minekura's artwork and the ''Reload/Gunlock'' series.

* SmugSnake: Looks and talks down to anyone she meets and acquaints with, no matter who they are. She even tried it on

* GoodIsNotNice: A classic Zen-slap-delivering source of wisdom who couldn't care less if the truth hurts.

Kougaji's younger half sister. Can be best described as a female Goku; all energy and appetite; replace his relationship with Sanzo with hers with Kougaiji, minus that he treats her much better. A bit of an airhead. Has surprisingly large breasts despite her young appearance. Hero-worships her big bro to the extent that she characterizes herself as the prince's sister rather than the king's daughter, and is justifiably wary of her creepy mom.

* HarmlessVillain: She's physically much stronger than her brother. But she's easily distracted by food so all it takes for the Sanzo party to beat her is offering her a snack.

* TagAlongKid: Kougaji usually doesn't bring her along, so much as she tags along.

* DragonLady: She's technically the second-in-command to her husband.

* HateSink: She is completely selfish and will sacrifice anything for her goals. She's also a DirtyCoward who is took weak to do her own dirty work.

An extremely eccentric yet very threatening human mad scientist attempting to revive Gyumaoh for unknown reasons. As of the end of ''Reload'' is also known to be [[spoiler: Ukoku Sanzo, the heretical keeper of the Muten [=sutra=] and an old friend of Koumyou Sanzo...and possibly also his murderer.]]

* TheDragon: To Gyokumen Koushu

* HyperCompetentSideKick: Gyokuman Koushu may be the one that came up with plan to revive Gyumaoh, but Nii is the one that allows her plan the possibility of succeeding, and as a whole is far more crafty than she is.

* {{Meganekko}}: Never seen without her glasses.
* NervousWreck: Easily startled and very neurotic and uptight.
* PsychoLesbian: Or rather, ''neurotic'' lesbian. Despite her serious demeanour, she tends to panic easily and often flies into fits, which Nii Jianyi has a tendency to tease her about.

* ThreeWaySex: Defied. When Nii proposes this to her, she refuses angrily by slapping him across the face, hinting that she's no bisexual but a a ''true'' lesbian.
