While Callum attended a private cross school, Jude was in the L.M. Justified as Jude wasn’t allowed to attend further education and forced to quit school at 14. Also, it gets reversed with Jude becoming the "responsible" to Callum's "foolish" after Callum makes the romantic, and well-intentioned, mistake of having sex with Sephy while they have kidnapped her.
* FreudianExcuse: Exaggerated. First Jude’s sister gains a serve metal illness that makes her think she’s a cross and commits suicide once she regains sanity. Then his father either committed suicide or died trying to escape prison. Finally, his brother is hanged for a crime he didn’t commit.
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Most of his enemies know what he’s been through but don’t believe that excuses his crimes.
* GoldDigger: A subversion [[spoiler: Jude originally planned to use Cara for money but found himself having genuine feelings for her. He tried to brush them off but this led to him beating her to death.]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Jude becomes like the Crosses he was fighting against
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: He is sincere in his urgency to get revenge for Callum's death, but he was actually always a spiteful bully towards him and doesn't acknowledge that Callum would actually want him to protect Sephy and Callie-Rose.

* KnightTemplarBigBrother: A not so heartwarming example. Despite being a BigBrotherBully, his primary goal in life is to get revenge on all crosses because of what happened to his father and siblings. Jude once described his relationship with Callum as hating him and loving him at the same time.

Futhermore, heis one of the few characters in the Hadley/McGregor family not to narrate a chapter.
