Characters that debuted in WebVideo/WhoKilledMarkiplier

!!Major/Recurring characters
[[folder:The District Attorney (You)]]
-> '''Appears in:''' Who Killed Markiplier?
Stylized as “Y/N” (Your Name) in-universe, the viewer takes on the role of the District Attorney. They are an old friend of the Mayor who was invited to Markiplier Manor for a night of poker after having not heard from Markiplier for a long time.
----
* AccidentalMurder: [[spoiler:The Colonel shoots the District Attorney while trying to pry his gun from their hands, after which they fall to their death. It's immediately {{Lampshaded}} by [[IDidntMeanToKillHim him.]]]]
--> [[spoiler: '''Colonel''': It was an accident! I swear!]]
* AndIMustScream: By the end of “Who Killed Markiplier”, [[spoiler:the District Attorney is trapped in the house by a [[FaceMonsterTurn now evil]] [[MergerOfSouls Damien/Celine (Darkiplier)]] with no clear way of death or being freed, and no ability to do anything. [[FateWorseThanDeath Forever.]]]]
* BingeMontage: The District Attorney experiences a pretty wild one in chapter 1. Although hilarious, it's also HarsherInHindsight with an added note of FridgeBrilliance because it actually [[spoiler: foreshadows all the events afterwords. Abe's suspicion, Damien being trapped in "The Upside Down", the Colonel's disregard for life, etc. WordOfGod elaborates [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_760Ruvx_2s here.]]]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: The District Attorney comes back after their death from being shot by the Colonel, but they’re rendered unable to die and is now uselessly trapped in the house without a body.]]
* FeaturelessProtagonist: The District Attorney’s face and body, sans the appearance of an arm or two, is never seen. [[spoiler: At least until the end of Chapter 4, where they finally get to take a look in the mirror. However, their body has shifted to look like Damien's by this time.]]
* ForgottenFallenFriend: After the end of “Who Killed Markiplier”, the District Attorney is rarely referenced. In DAMIEN, when Damien references people The Actor betrayed, the DA is not among them, and Celine only makes a vague reference to "people she's used". Abe is the exectpion, as one of the main reasons he's chasing the Colonel in "Wilford 'MOTHERLOVIN'' Warfstache" is to get revenge on the man who murdered his partner.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:After volunteering to share their body with Damien and Celine, the District Attorney’s soon kicked out by [[MergerOfSouls Damien/Celine (Darkiplier)]] leaving him in control of your body.]]
* HeartbeatSoundtrack: Played briefly in chapter 4 [[spoiler: after dying]]
* RailingKill: [[spoiler:The District Attorney falls over a railing to their death after the Colonel shoots them.]]
* SickeningCrunch: One can be heard when the District Attorney [[spoiler:lands after falling over a railing in chapter 4. This presumably breaks their neck and is why Darkiplier is [[CharacterTic always twisting it.]]]]
* SleepsWithBothEyesOpen: At the end of the BingeMontage in the first episode, the DA collapses onto his bed and falls asleep without ever closing his eyes. Lampshaded by the Detective while they are going over the time of Mark's death.
--> '''Detective''': I'm gonna ignore the strange fact that you sleep with your eyes open.
* TheVoiceless: The District Attorney is never heard speaking in the videos. [[spoiler: {{Lampshaded}} by Celine to make the others suspect them.]]

A private detective whom Markiplier hires on a regular basis. He was hired to vet the party guests, but only to keep up appearances.
----
* {{Curse}}: All his previous partners have died each more tragic than the last. [[spoiler:The District Attorney isn’t immune to it, as it foreshadows their death in Chapter 4.]]
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He ''somewhat'' serves as this, according to Mark IRL. While the District Attorney is the protaonist, they suffer from being TheVoiceless due to the first person nature of ''Who Killed Markiplier?''. As such, Abe guides the veiwer's experience more than any of the other characters.
* ILoveTheDead: He seems to have a disturbing interest in fingering Mark's dead body.
* InspectorJavert: He jumps to wild conclusions in the span of a few seconds when things start going down. This includes accusing the DA of being the prime suspect behind Mark's murder without any evidence to back it up and refuses to call any other authorities to assist with the case.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The Cabinet by Martin Klem plays when [[spoiler: you walk through his lair]].
* NoNameGiven: He’s only ever referred to as "Detective" with one exception. It's easy to miss, but Markiplier greets him as "Abe!" in Little Buddy’s surveillance footage in chapter 1. WordOfGod and bonus material reveals [[https://twitter.com/markiplier/status/918999999551242240 his full name is Abe Lincoln]].
** MeaningfulName: 'Abe' is a form of 'Abraham', meaning 'father of many', probably referring to all his past partners.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:He evidently survived being shot by the Colonel, presumably due to the Manor preventing permanent death of its residents. At the end of the video for Chapter 4, we hear his message to the Colonel as he calls the authorities]].
--> '''Detective''': [[spoiler: Colonel... if you can hear this... you better '''''run'''''.]]
* TheOnlyOne: Feels that calling the authorities in is unnecessary, as he is on the case.
* PrivateDetective
* StringTheory: Has a mess of a room in the Manor filled with evidence about the case, and about all the guests in the house.
* SurroundedByIdiots: He's quick to [[LampshadeHanging hang a lampshade]] on the eccentric behaviors of the other guests. The only person he consistently treats with respect is the Mayor, who's by far the most "normal" of the group.

No, not [[LetsPlay/{{Markiplier}} the Youtuber.]] In this universe, Markiplier is an actor that disappeared for a time before inviting the gang for poker night in celebration of something.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: [[While it is certain that Actor!Mark and [=YouTuber!mark=] are both different entities, there is also a chance that youtuber!Mark ''may'' be actor!Mark, or that they are related in some fashion.]]
* AssholeVictim: According to the Colonel, who [[UnreliableNarrator sees him as a selfish jerk who ultimately causes his own death.]] [[spoiler:While the Colonel’s [[RightForTheWrongReasons right to some extent]], he failed to understand the depressive state Markiplier was in after their falling out, which was taken advantage of by the dark forces in the house to manipulate him into evil.]]
* BloodlessCarnage: Despite the numerous fatal injuries described by the Detective, his body has no visible wounds on it. [[spoiler: This is because the wounds are all old and/or healed, and the only wound that should be present on Mark's body is the gunshot wound to the head from RussianRoulette.]]
* CantHoldHisLiquor: According to [[UnreliableNarrator the Colonel]], who believed that he died as a result of slipping from the stairs in a drunken stupor. However, this is averted in the party scene itself, since Markiplier is the only one who did not drink any alcohol.
* ChalkOutline: Besides Chapter 1 [[spoiler: and the end of Chapter 4]], the only appearance Markiplier makes is as a taped outline on the ground [[spoiler: since the body disappears at the end of Episode 1]].
* ClassyCravat: Wears one along with his robe to indicate his wealth and high status as the host of the party.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler: His wife ran away with one of his best friends. So he makes an elaborate [[ThanatosGambit plan]] to emotionally manipulate said friend into murder and steal his body. Somewhat {{justified trope}} since he's been infected by an [[SapientHouse evil house entity.]]]]
* EvilFormerFriend: He used to be close childhood friends with Damien and William before a falling out with the latter caused their relationship to be strained. [[spoiler:He later forms a scheme to trick the Colonel into murder and to steal Damien's body.]]
* FormerFriendsPhoto: Shares one with Damien and the Colonel. [[spoiler: A second photo with Celine added notes her role in the timeline and progression of their relationships.]]
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:Since his own body was being worn down from subjecting it to multiple suicides and the dark forces’ subsequent resurrections, he chooses to take over Damien's body instead.]]
* HappilyMarried: Mark was much happier when he was with Celine, but considering [[spoiler:Celine [[YourCheatingHeart ran off with Colonel William]], it's hard to say if she felt the same way]].
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: He tricked the Colonel into killing him, stole Damien's body]] and forced everyone through emotional turmoil. But he gets off without any retribution.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: [[spoiler: Has tried numeral times to kill himself, yet he was resurrected again and again]].
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: [[spoiler:Markiplier planned his apparent death so that he could frame the Colonel for murder, take over Damien’s body, and leave everybody else in an angry and confused state. This proved to be successful.]]
* NotGoodWithRejection: Doesn't take [[spoiler: Celine running away with the Colonel]] very well.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Literally stated in the title. Markiplier's death is what sets off the investigations and events of the videos.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: [[spoiler: Implied by WordOfGod to be the case thanks to the Manor, at least in the years leading up to the events of the series. After that, Markiplier and the Manor had [[GrandTheftMe other options]].]]
* RussianRoulette: [[spoiler: Played a game with the Colonel, causing his own (planned) death.]]
* SpurnedIntoSuicide: [[spoiler: The reason for his initial death (and subsequent resurrection and interest in the Manor's power) is implied to be a suicide after Celine runs away with the Colonel.]]
* ThanatosGambit: [[spoiler: Markiplier gathered his [[WeUsedToBeFriends past friends]] and associates together under the guise of a poker party to cover up the manipulation of his own death, which occurred by getting the Colonel to shoot him during RussianRoulette so that the [[EldritchLocation Entity in his manor]] could then [[BackFromTheDead revive him]] and allow him to perform a GrandTheftMe on the Colonel while also forcing Damien through a TraumaCongaLine.]]
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Was stabbed 37 times, poisoned, beaten, strangled, drowned, and shot, in that order. [[spoiler: {{Subverted}} as [[https://youtu.be/_760Ruvx_2s?t=6h15m07s it is revealed in a stream]] that rather than these injuries being the cause of his death, Markiplier committed suicide multiple times in many ways. He was resurrected by the house each time.]]
--> '''Mark:''' [The Detective] said "In that order." Not all at the same time. Not even all at the same day. That's just ''happened to him''.
* TheTeetotaler: Markiplier never drinks. This becomes important when [[spoiler: Markiplier (the real one) revealed he wanted to remain mentally aware enough to make sure everyone was intoxicated during their poker party and [[ThanatosGambit manipulate the drunken Colonel into shooting him]] during RussianRoulette]]

The mayor and a childhood friend of Markiplier and Col. William, and an old friend of the District Attorney.
----
* CorruptPolitician: Downplayed. Although Damien himself is a caring and concerned man who clearly cares about his friends, a few news articles in Abe's RoomFullOfCrazy reveal that he and Markiplier were "in cahoots," specifically that that Damien was in some legal trouble. There is also an arrest record on him, with only one entry that is [[DarkSecret scribbled out]].
* FormerFriendsPhoto: Shares one with Markiplier and the Colonel to further show their past relationship. A second photo with Celine added notes her role in the timeline and progression of their relationships.
* {{Leitmotif}}: '[[https://player.epidemicsound.com/series/1721/ Creepy Regrets 4]]' plays when [[spoiler: he and Celine meet Y/N in the Upside Down]].
* NiceGuy: He cares deeply about his friends. When the District Attorney gets knocked down by the Detective during the party, he's the only one who is worried about them, and he engages them in hearty conversation on the next day. He's also the only one to genuinely care about Markiplier's death, and he believes that his friends, Colonel and the District Attorney, are innocent. When everyone is going out to find the groundskeeper, he stays inside with Celine to make sure she will be safe.
* MeaningfulName: 'Damien' means 'to tame, to subdue'.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Celine's red, since he tries to balance out her temper and impulsiveness with reason and calmness. [[spoiler: Even his dead spirit appears blue.]]
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:Has his body taken over by Markiplier's soul. He also hijacks the District Attorney’s body at the end of Chapter 4, though at that point, the Damien you know is gone, and only [[FaceMonsterTurn Darkiplier]] remains who is a [[MergerOfSouls fusion of the worst sides of Damien and Celine's souls.]]]]
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: [[spoiler:His spirit appears with Celine’s spirit in the “Upside Down” to help out the District Attorney and return them to the real world.]]
* SharpDressedMan: Is always seen in a black suit.

The ex-wife of Markiplier who makes a sudden appearance at the end of Chapter 2.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler: Briefly turns everyone, except William and Damien, against the District Attorney during Chapter 3.]]
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:At the end of Chapter 3. Markiplier Manor hijacks her body and traps her and Damien's souls into Markiplier's body and then traps them ''again'' in the Dark Dimension.]]
* FortuneTeller: Her profession. She does a seance with the District Attorney to that causes the latter to see past and future events that foreshadow the rest of the story.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:She has her body taken over by The Dark Entity/Markiplier Manor. She also hijacks the District Attorney’s body at the end of Chapter 4, though at that point, the Celine you know is gone, and only [[FaceMonsterTurn Darkiplier]] remains who is a [[MergerOfSouls fusion of the worst sides of Damien and Celine's souls.]]]]
* HairTriggerTemper: She certainly has one, as shown by the scene when [[spoiler: the District Attorney draws the groundskeeper they saw in their vision, which she sees as insignificant]], and she begins to shout at them to try again, slamming the table in anger.
* LadyOfBlackMagic
* {{Leitmotif}}: '[[https://player.epidemicsound.com/series/1721/ Creepy Regrets 4]]' plays when [[spoiler: she and Damien meet Y/N in the Upside Down]].
* LoveTriangle: From what is seen in the pictures on Markiplier's bedroom table, she is part of one with Markiplier and the Colonel, with the latter seemingly unhappy with her presence. [[spoiler: She was married to Markiplier, but fell out of love with him and 'in' love with the Colonel, who she ran away with.]]
* ManipulativeBastard: She can easily command a room and direct conversations. She also seems to easily earn the trust of everyone in the house. WordOfGod hints that she does this in an unnatural way.
* MeaningfulName: 'Celine' derives from 'Caelum' (sky or heaven). Before the [[SpellMyNameWithAnS exact spelling of her name was revealed]], she was also often called [[{{Lunacy}} Selene]].
* PlotIncitingInfidelity: A major factor in starting off the plot is the fact that, years ago, [[spoiler: Celine cheated on her husband, Markiplier, with the Colonel. Markiplier did not like that]].
* RedIsViolent: [[spoiler: Celine's spirit]] is red, and she makes up the angrier, more manipulative part of [[spoiler: Darkiplier]].
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Damien's blue, due to her temper (she gets angry whenever things don’t go according to her plan) and impulsiveness (she doesn’t end the seance properly). [[spoiler: Even her dead spirit appears red.]]
* SlasherSmile: When she becomes possessed by the manor in Episode 3, she briefly curls her mouth into a murderous smile before the DA and George the Groundskeeper lock her in her room.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Before her name was seen written down [[spoiler: in the Detective's room]], her name varied quite a lot between [[{{Lunacy}} Selene]], Seline or Celene.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Discounting the District Attorney, whose gender depends on that of the viewer’s, Celine is the only female character in “Who Killed Markiplier” series.
* SupernaturalIsPurple: At the end of Chapter 3, [[spoiler: the Manor-possessed Celine is shown to be surrounded by purple light.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Shares this with the Colonel. [[spoiler: Everything that happened in ''Who Killed Markiplier?'' was a result of her [[YourCheatingHeart cheating on Mark with the Colonel.]]]]
* YourCheatingHeart: [[spoiler:She ran away with the Colonel while married to Markiplier.]]

[[folder:Benjamin The Butler]]
-> '''Appears in:''' Who Killed Markiplier?
-> Portrayed by: Tyler Scheid

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/benjamin_3.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:I've prepared for you a [[HideousHangoverCure seltzer with cocaine.]] Best thing for the morning after, if you ask me.]]

A butler working for Markiplier.
----
* AmbiguousDisorder: His obsession with [[NeatFreak making sure everything is clean]] is what he describes as his greatest weakness. Seemingly, he has some form of OCD when it comes to this kind of stuff.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Believes fortune telling is a sham despite him clearly experiencing the supernatural in ''Who Killed Markiplier?''.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a fairly decent guy, but it's still implied that he's a drug dealer and has a grudge with the Chef.
* DrugsAreGood: He believes ''cocaine'' is great for dealing with hangovers and colds, as well as other ailments.
* {{Foil}}: To Chef. Benjamin is a NiceGuy, but can be a bit of an asshole at times, and he's been working for Mark for a relatively short time, evidenced by Mark telling Abe that "he's a new guy." Chef on the other hand is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who has been working for Mark for 25 years
* HideousHangoverCure: He gives one to the DA in the form of seltzer with cocaine in the morning after the party.
* HighClassGloves: Wears a pair of these.
* NiceGuy: Probably the second-nicest character in the game next to Damien (at least until the latter's FaceMonsterTurn), trying to maintain order within the manor, helping the DA recover from their hangover from the night before, and generally just being a courteous helping hand during the investigation.
* NoNameGiven: Is only referred to as "the butler." WordOfGod and bonus material reveals [[https://twitter.com/markiplier/status/918999999551242240 his name is Benjamin]].
** MeaningfulName: 'Benjamin' means 'son of my right hand' as in that he was Mark's right hand man.
* TheButlerDidIt: {{Averted}}, [[spoiler:the Colonel killed Mark.]]
* TheJeeves: He’s utterly devoted to his job even after Markiplier’s death - reacting with shock when he finds a broken wine bottle in the cellar, being worried about the shattering of a vase, and angrily telling off the Detective and the Colonel for having guns inside the house.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He, alongside George the Groundskeeper and Chef are never mentioned again after deciding to leave Markiplier Manor in the final episode.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chef.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Oh. You're helping that ''dick'' with his investigation?]]

A chef that works for Markiplier.
----
* BerserkButton: Whatever you do, don't enter his kitchen.
* BadMoodAsAnExcuse: He practically ''exists'' in this state.
* EvilChef: He’s initially set up as this, threatening the DA with a ladle the first time they meet and making odd threats towards them. [[spoiler: {{Subverted}} in the fact that he’s a good guy who’s just a little scary.]]
* {{Foil}}: To Benjamin. Chef is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who has been working for Mark for 25 years. Benjamin on the other hand is a NiceGuy, but can be a bit of an asshole at times, and he's been working for Mark for a relatively short time, evidenced by Mark telling Abe that "he's a new guy."
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: WordOfGod says the chef's name really is Chef. Amusingly enough, Chef apparently only spent 4 weeks at cooking school, so his name fitting his profession is entirely coincidental.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He’s initially hostile towards the District Attorney and can be rather threatening if he wants to be, but he’s nice enough to let George live on the manor grounds and is on good terms with him.
* OddNameOut: He's the only character with the HisNameReallyIsBarkeep trope.
* RealMenCook: It's his job. And he takes it ''very'' seriously.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: He quits his job after the events of Episode 3, deciding that while he has cooked for the "uppity fucks" running the place for 25 years, he's not going to die for them.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Combined with ScrewThisImOuttaHere down below.
--> '''Chef''': I've spent 25 years cooking for these uppity fucks. I'm not about die for 'em! I quit! '''BITCH!'''
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He, alongside George the Groundskeeper and Benjamin the Butler are never mentioned again after deciding to leave Markiplier Manor in the final episode.

[[caption-width-right:350:[[PunctuatedForEmphasis I ain't! going! near! that! ]]''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis house!]]'']]

The old groundskeeper of Markiplier Manor.
----
* CrustyCaretaker: Old and grouchy, he only cares about tending to the grounds of the Manor.
* DeadpanSnarker: He occasionally engages in this as the Detective starts asking him questions.
--> '''Detective''': Hey! Buddy! Hands where I can see them!
--> '''George''': Hey, my hands are where they're supposed to be. Unless, of course, you'd like to dig the hole for yourself.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: He makes it very clear that he won't go inside the manor, unless one particular "manifestation" were to occur. He's barely finished his sentence before the house suddenly lights up with demonic energy, and he immediately starts sprinting towards it.
--> '''George''': ''THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE REASON!''
* GrumpyOldMan: He doesn't take very kindly to people interrupting him while he works on the house.
* HauntedHouseHistorian: He knows about the [[spoiler:supernatural presence in the house]] and thus hasn’t set foot in it for fifteen years. [[spoiler:This is the reason why lightning doesn’t strike whenever he mentions the word “murder.]] The only time he breaks this vow is when he sees the [[spoiler:purple lights stemming from Celine’s possession]] coming from the house.
* TheHermit: Chef basically describes him as such. He apparently lived on the manor grounds for fifteen years without anybody noticing.
* IWorkAlone: He independently updates and repairs the grounds of Markiplier Manor all by himself for over fifteen years.
* LonersAreFreaks: Having lived on Markiplier's grounds for over fifteen years with no one to talk to seems to have made George a very jaded old man.
* MeaningfulName: In Greek the meaning of the name George is from 'georgos' meaning "tiller of the soil," or "farmer." While not exactly a farmer, it's close enough.
* MysteriousProtector: Downplayed. While he doesn't care much for the wellbeing of the previous owners of the manor he keeps to, he certainly cares about the manor itself, as demonstrated when Celine becomes possessed.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: After locking away [[spoiler:a possessed Celine]], he leaves the manor and is never mentioned again.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Played with. While George has been living on Mark's grounds for over fifteen years without permission from him, no one but the Chef is actually aware of his existence until the latter brings him up during the investigation of Mark's death.

* BigFancyHouse: Fittingly for a manor, it is well-furnished, full of ornamental decorations and has many rooms. It’s also technically the first character to be introduced - receiving a wide panning shot in the prologue that shows its overhead layout.
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:The Dark Entity manipulated Damien, the District Attorney and Celine into merging with it, [[SealedEvilInACan releasing it from its prison]].]]
* TheCorrupter: It [[spoiler: would corrupt people into amplifying their worse traits while making them [[KnightTemplar think that they are still good]]. Its primary victims include Markiplier, Celine, and Damien.]]
* EldritchLocation: [[spoiler: Whoever dies in the Manor doesn’t stay dead. It also warps the minds of those who set foot in it, causing negative thoughts/feelings to worsen and the victim to subconsciously justify evil actions. This gets worse the longer they stay inside it.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: [[spoiler: Possibly the biggest antagonist on Mark's channel as a whole given that it created Darkiplier through merging itself with Damien and Celine - however this trope may now be a thing of the past and it (he, since he's Dark) may just be the outright BigBad.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ipt76UqkxM Who's there 2]] by Peter Sandberg, which plays during [[spoiler: their fusion with Damien and Celine]].
* SapientHouse: [[spoiler: WordOfGod says the Manor has a mind of its own. This is shown in the series by the house subconsciously guiding you to Abe’s office, which hadn’t been available to the District Attorney as a room before.]]

* SurroundedByIdiots: He's quick to [[LampshadeHanging hang a lampshade]] on the eccentric behaviors of the other guests. The only person he consistently treats with respect is the Mayor, who's by far the most "normal" of the group.

* LadyOfBlackMagic
* {{Leitmotif}}: '[[https://player.epidemicsound.com/series/1721/ Creepy Regrets 4]]' plays when [[spoiler: she and Damien meet Y/N in the Upside Down]].

--> '''George''': ''THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE REASON!''

* HospitalSurprise: After being shot by Colonel and left for dead in Markiplier Manor, it was revealed in Benjamin's [[ADayInTheLimelight interview livestream]] that he was hospitalized after the events of episode 4.
** MeaningfulName: 'Abe' is a form of 'Abraham', meaning 'father of many', probably referring to all his past partners.

* SurroundedByIdiots: He's quick to [[LampshadeHanging hang a lampshade]] on the eccentric behaviors of the other guests. The only person he consistently treats with respect is the Mayor, who's by far the most "normal" of the group.

* BenevolentBoss: According to Benjamin in his [[ADayInTheLimelight interview livestream]], he used to be this to Benjamin. It's why he regards Mark's death in ''Who Killed Markiplier?'' as such a tragic event

* CompositeCharacter: WordOfGod states that he takes inspirations from [[{{Film/Jumanji}} Hunter Van Pelt]] and [[{{Film/Clue}} Colonel Mustard]].
* FamilyOfChoice: As a child, he was raised with Markiplier in the Manor and they were as close as brothers. Subverted when they had a falling out over [[spoiler: William having an affair with Markiplier’s wife Celine]], causing both of them to develop bitter feelings towards each other.

Contrast him with the other characters in “Who Killed Markiplier” aside from Damien, and he's one of the genuinely kindest characters to the protagonist. And though he does [[spoiler: shoot the District Attorney,]] it was an accident and he regrets it. The trope is {{lampshaded}} by both Celine and Damien.
--> '''Damien''': The Colonel is an eccentric, it's his best quality and his worst.
--> '''Celine''': [[spoiler: (After the Colonel shoots the District Attorney) ]] : You can't blame him, honestly he's a good man.
* MurderMakesYouCrazy: Interestingly {{subverted}}. [[spoiler:Killing the District Attorney and Markiplier isn't what drove the Colonel insane, it was seeing the DA’s dead body come back to life, since it simply defies reality.]]
* NighInvulnerability: [[spoiler:Markiplier's original plan was to hijack Colonel's body, but the Manor knew it was impossible, so it manipulated Mark to hijack Damien and Celine's bodies instead.]]

A butler working for Markiplier. He was interviewed after the events of ''Who Killed Markiplier?'' and answered many questions the fans had [[https://www.twitch.tv/videos/279021114?t= here]].
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: He had his own twitch interview, as seen [[https://www.twitch.tv/videos/279021114?t= here]].
* AmbiguousDisorder: He jumps when he or anyone says "murder", as if expecting lightning, and while he says he doesn't experience flashbacks, it seems that the events of ''Who Killed Markiplier?'' left him with some form of PTSD.
** His obsession with [[NeatFreak making sure everything is clean]] is what he describes as his greatest weakness. Seemingly, he has some form of OCD when it comes to this kind of stuff.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Believes fortune telling is a sham despite him clearly experiencing the supernatural in ''Who Killed Markiplier?''.
* AscendedExtra: Wasn't too important story-wise in ''Who Killed Markiplier?'', but is the main focus in his [[ADayInTheLimelight interview livestream]].
* BerserkButton: Don't accuse him of killing Mark.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's the nicest character next to Damien, but will go ''off'' on you if you accuse him of murdering Mark.
* DrugsAreGood: He believes ''cocaine'' is great for dealing with hangovers and colds, as well as other ailments.
* {{Foil}}: To Chef. Benjamin is a NiceGuy, but can be a bit of an asshole at times, and he's been working for Mark for a relatively short time, evidenced by Mark telling Abe that "he's a new guy." Chef on the other hand is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who has been working for Mark for 25 years
* FreudianSlip: In his interview, he keeps accidentally referring the school of ''servitude'' to the school of ''fortitude''.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Is a professional pet groomer, and states that pets love him.
* HideousHangoverCure: He gives one to the DA in the form of seltzer with cocaine in the morning after the party.
* HighClassGloves: Wears a pair of these. It turns out he had to after Mark started delving into the secrets of Markiplier Manor because when he did, he wouldn't let Benjamin make any contact with him ''at all''.
* InitiationCeremony: A rather humiliating one: one pledge from the top fraternity/sorority of the University of Servitude gets elected for [[NakedPeopleAreFunny a naked run, and he was elected once]].
* LamarckWasRight: He comes from a long line of Butlers. His parents even served the King and Queen of England before coming to the states.
* MarriedToTheJob: He says he can't really get into relationships due to how dedicated he is to his job.
* NakedFirstImpression: How he and Mark met.
* NeatFreak: One of his 3 wishes would be for everything to be clean all the time, and expresses annoyance about having to clean up after Chef.
* PrestigePeril: In Mark's will, Benjamin inherited his house and has to see the Colonel every so often. Considering what [[SapientHouse Markiplier Manor]] [[TheCorruptor is like]] and the Colonel now a mad serial killer, it's a wonder he's still alive to do the interview.
* SecretKeeper: He knew about the deals made between Mark and Damien, but he's not allowed to tell anyone.
* TheAce: Graduated at the top of his class at the school of Butlery, a subset of the University of Servitude, and was decided as "the greatest butler to ever live" in Butler Magazine.
* TheButlerDidIt: {{Averted}}, [[spoiler:the Colonel killed Mark]], but everybody in-universe believes he did. It's damaged his reputation.
* TheJeeves: He’s utterly devoted to his job even after Markiplier’s death - reacting with shock when he finds a broken wine bottle in the cellar, being worried about the shattering of a vase, and angrily telling off the Detective and the Colonel for having guns inside the house.
* UnwittingMuggleFriend: To Mark. According to him, the only supernatural event he experienced was the events in ''Who Killed Markiplier?''. He knows nothing about the Manor supernaturally.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Turns out the reason he tries to be the best butler he can be is so he can live up to his parents' expectations.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He, alongside George the Groundskeeper and Chef are never mentioned again after deciding to leave Markiplier Manor in the final episode. At the very least, we know that he's able to attend an interview after he leaves.

----
* BadassGrandpa: Despite being the oldest character in the series, George is able to quickly jump into action once he realizes that something terrible is happening in the house, flying up the stairs and [[spoiler:keeping a possessed Celine inside her room]] without a moment's hesitation.
--> '''George''': ''THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE REASON!''

[[folder:The Dark Entity]]
!Markiplier Manor
-> '''Appears in:''' Who Killed Markiplier?
----
* BigBad: [[spoiler: Yes, you read that right, ''the Manor'' is the actual villain of "Who Killed Markiplier?" It may also be this trope for Mark's channel as a whole if you consider the possibility that it merged with Damien and Celine to become Darkiplier, who most certainly ''is'' the BigBad of the channel.]]

[[folder:Benjamin's Interviewer (You)]]
-> '''Appears in:''' Interview #69: Benjamin Butler
The person who invited Benjamin over to interview him for a job as their Butler.
* AmbiguousGender: Considering the interviewer is the viewer, their gender is that of the viewer, similar to the District Attorney
* ConnectedAllAlong: To the District Attorney. It's how they knew about the wine bottle incident. ''How'' exactly the DA told them is up to interpretation, but they probably wrote to them offscreen.
* ForgetfulJones: They have shades of this, asking Benjamin if he sells drugs ''twice'', forgetting other information that was included in the flyer (such as Benjamin's pay rate), and his birthday, despite getting his birth certificate.
* TheVoiceless: {{Downplayed}}. They don't audibly speak, but they can communicate to Benjamin as they are able to ask him questions.
