* MeaningfulName : His surname literally means Grey Peninsula. The grey part is the ColourfulThemeNaming as he's also from Teikou, when the peninsula part means he's different with the other Teikou alumnus, as he was kicked out and later dyes his hair, like a peninsula that is the only bit of land surrounded by the vast ocean. Still, he is a peninsula, not an island. He is still connected to the Generation of Miracles by the fact they all graduated from Teikou, and he is the player with power closests to them after Kagami. He admits it himself that he feels out of place in Teikou basketball team.

* GenderMisdirection: Due to Kagami referring to his mentor with a [[GenderBlenderName gender-ambiguous nickname that is often used as a masculine name]], the impressive reputation surrounding said mentor's basketball skills (since '''[[TheAce Kagami]]''' thinks he still has things to learn from said person), and only being shown as a sexually ambiguous silhouette before actually debuting on-panel/screen, both Seirin and the readers were left with the impression that "Alex" was a '''man'''. It's thus understandable for them to be mind-boggled that not only is Kagami's teacher a woman, but a sexy one at that (something that does not seem to trigger any reaction from Kagami, other than embarrassment at her shamelessness).

* {{Otaku}}: Reads LightNovels, and are the only the things that get him excited.
* OutOfFocus: Constantly, to RunningGag levels. It's easy to forget that he is the only third-year of Rakuzan's starting lineup, and basically their senior in terms of academic, yet he rarely gets the respect he deserves.

Founder of the Seirin basketball club. Seirin's former ace, and one of the Uncrowned Generals. His extremely large hands allow him to hold the basketball as a handball, allowing him to use skills such as the Right of Postponement, and later Vice Claw. While the main center for Seirin, he's also capable as a point guard, allowing him to combine both positions and create his own play style. He suffered a GameBreakingInjury at the hands of Hanamiya, and the injury is bad enough to force him to have to retire after this year's Winter Cup.

* RedBaron: One of the five Uncrowned Generals, "Iron-Heart".

One of the Uncrowned Generals. His ability is to dribble extremely fast, making the ball hard to steal.

* RedBaron: One of the five Uncrowned Generals, Raijuu.

One of the Uncrowned Generals. He's implied to be good at drawing fouls, especially while shooting three-pointers, resulting in four-point plays.

The captain and coach of the Kirisaki Daiichi team, and one of the Uncrowned Generals. Constantly uses underhanded methods and dirty tricks to win the game, but is also very skilled in his own right; his main skill is to steal the ball from his opponents.

* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Analysing the pass courses of his opponents allows him to steal virtually every ball from his opponents.
* TheCaptain: Also the coach.

* CripplingTheCompetition: All the time. [[spoiler:In fact, he was the one who caused Kiyoshi's GameBreakingInjury.]]

* RedBaron: One of the five Uncrowned Generals, "Bad Boy".

** This was Akashi's justification for originally kicking Haizaki off of the Teijou Team. While Haizaki was, at the time the clear better of the two players between himself and Kise, Akashi could tell that Kise had the higher potential and would ultimately be the better of the two. Haizaki's toxic personality led to Akashi's decision that it would be better for him to leave the team all together since Haizaki's ego would never allow him to cope with getting moved to the second string in favor of Kise.

* JapaneseDelinquents: What he attempted to be in his first year of highschool. Didn't last long.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: More so in the past, but still present.

* ChickMagnet: In Seirin. Though they always run away when he [[PungeonMaster starts telling jokes.]]
* OnlySaneMan: Despite his PungeonMaster tendencies, he's this for his team. Prime example? The hot springs incident.
