* TragicVillain: For all his spite, pettiness, and willingness to cross any line to hurt Sougo, at his core, Hiryu is a broken man who is stuck in a past that he never chose and has been deluded by Swartz into thinking that he could evolve past it all as a king. Even in his worst and most hateful moments as part of the ''Another Zi-O II arc'', all of it is because he is simply too filled with anger and resentment that he honestly can't believe Sougo or anyone would ever be able to comprehend what he has went through and remembered for so long. And at the end of his arc, Swartz tells him to his face that he was merely a pathetic man who thought he could be king. ''Final Stage'' seems to cement him as a StrawNihilist who believes he was cast aside by fate and truly was stuck in the past, but Sougo rebuffs that [[NoMoreHoldingBackSpeech time only marches forward, and if he doesn't move forward as well, then he'll always lose to him.]]

* NeverMyFault: His most consistent character trait is his inability to accept that his problems are his own fault, instead blaming anything else he can for his misfortunes (possibly because the accident that started them [[RightForTheWrongReasons really was something heyond his control]]). [[spoiler: As of ''Final Stage'' this has escalated to ''blaming the entire Heisei Era itself'' for his problems.]]

These characters are MOTWs of the TV series, rather than protagonists. Deleting misuse.

* VillainProtagonist: They steal the histories of their original counterparts, essentially taking that Rider's place in their stories. Despite this, they're all outright villainous.
