* OddFriendship: The Rules is a personification of the concept of rules and takes games very seriously as a result. Despite this, out of all the characters, she ends up becoming closest to Mr. Cat, who is lazy, laidback, and rebellious.

** JerkassToOne: While Kaeloo can be mean at times to any of the characters, she is particularly horrible to Stumpy. She does things such as yelling "YOU LOST" in his ear and mocking him for losing a game, nearly allowing him to drown in quicksand, and refusing to apologize for burning his comic books, which she never does to the other characters, despite the fact that Stumpy didn't provoke her at all.

* NiceGirl: For all her flaws, he's an affectionate, loving, and sweet frog.

* MatureYoungerSibling: Ardoise, especially compared to Stumpy.

* TheConfidant: In season 5, he becomes this to Mr. Cat after encouraging the feline to confront the bad impacts that his [[DarkAndTroubledPast bad childhood]] has had on him. Throughout this season, Mr. Cat slowly opens up about the way his trauma shaped him as a person, and Quack-Quack is the only person he trusts enough with the secret that he has decided to pursue therapy for his issues.

* UnreliableNarrator: In seasons 1-4, Mr. Cat had an established backstory in which he ran away from home to escape his abusive family, consisting of an [[AlcoholicFather alcoholic father]], a mother who always screamed at him, and [[BigBrotherBully two older brothers who bullied him]]. However, he kept saying things that [[MultipleChoicePast conflicted with his established backstory. Season 5 explains that this was actually due to him deliberately telling lies about his past, and the established backstory was the only true one.

In season 5, Pretty is revealed to have undergone [[SameCharacterButDifferent offscreen]] CharacterDevelopment and befriended the main four, having given up her ways as a bully.

* BullyTurnedBuddy: In seasons 2-4, Pretty was an AlphaBitch who often bullied Kaeloo, Stumpy, and Quack-Quack, and was an AbhorrentAdmirer to Mr. Cat who kept violating his boundaries. In season 5, Pretty is revealed to have undergone an offscreen HeelFaceTurn and befriended them all after becoming a nicer person.

* EarsAsHair: From seasons 2-4 she has these, as opposed to Eugly's FurryFemaleMane.

* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In season 5 she gets a new hairstyle to go with her new personality.

* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: She wears a complete outfit consisting of a hair bow, tank top, skirt, shorts and sandals. In season 5 she gets a new outfit but this trope is still in effect.
* FurryFemaleMane: In season 5, her ExpositoryHairstyleChange leads to her having one of these.

* SameCharacterButDifferent: From her introduction until the end of season 4, Pretty was a [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]], [[JerkAss mean]] {{narcissist}} and an AlphaBitch. In season 5, Pretty is revealed to have undergone offscreen CharacterDevelopment and becomes a friendly, helpful, and caring person, with absolutely none of her previous character traits present.

* NonMammalianHair: Olaf has [[BigOlEyebrows big, bushy eyebrows]] and, as of season 5, a man bun and beard.

A personification of the concept of rules who comes to Smileyland in season 5 after being sent to fix the other characters' blatant disregard for rules when they play games.

* ArcVillain: The Rules is the main antagonist of season 5, but she undergoes a redemption arc at the end of the season.
* BigBad: She is the overarching antagonist of season 5.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Despite the other characters calling her friend throughout season 5, until the season finale, they all openly admit to finding her annoying and overbearing.

Stumpy's seven younger sisters, who appear starting in season 5. They are:

* AerithAndBob: There are weird names like "Stumpy" and "Quack Quack", but there's also a guy named Olaf. This is discussed in seasons 4 and 5, which reveal that these names are considered bizarre in-universe as well. Quack-Quack was named by a young Kaeloo when she found his egg, Stumpy's family is known for giving terrible names to their children that everyone else finds ridiculous, and Mr. Cat has the fairly normal first name of Hector.

** JerkassToOne: Kaeloo is particularly awful to Stumpy and will often go out of her way to bully him for no reason.

* {{Jerkass}}: As Bad Kaeloo, though she'll still show some kindness in this form. DependingOnTheWriter, even "normal" Kaeloo can be a bit of a prat soemtimes.

** [[spoiler: In Episode 53, he receives no punishment whatsoever for turning Olaf against Kaeloo, which almost endangers her, [[MakesSenseInContext just for some money.]]]]
** [[spoiler: In Episode 64, he gets away with serving trash as food in a restaurant and forcing Stumpy to work for him.]]

* {{Jerkass}}: As Bad Kaeloo. And, DependingOnTheWriter, sometimes even as "normal" Kaeloo.
** JerkassToOne: Kaeloo is a nice person who generally acts kind and caring to everyone except [[TheChewToy Stumpy]], to whom she does things like deliberately ignoring him as he is drowning, cruelly smiling as she watches him fall off a cliff, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking openly mocking him for losing a game.]]

* NiceGirl: She's an affectionate, loving, and sweet frog.

* IronButtMonkey: He can survive just about anything.

* SympathyForTheDevil: Being aware that Mr. Cat's [[TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior behavior]] [[FreudianExcuse stems from]] [[DarkAndTroubledPast Mr. Cat having had a very difficult life]], Quack Quack continues to be his friend and be nice to him because he believes that deep down, Mr. Cat is just confused and hurting because of his trauma.

* TooDumbToLive: If Quack Quack wasn't indestructible, he would have certainly died by now. For example, in one episode, Kaeloo, Stumpy and Quack Quack are playing "Red Light, Green Light" with the AxCrazy VillainProtagonist Mr. Cat. When Mr. Cat turns around, he fires a missile from a bazooka at the others. Kaeloo and Stumpy run away to escape. Quack Quack, on the other hand, stands in the path of the missile because the rules of the game say that he shouldn't move until Mr. Cat turns around again.
* ToothyBird: When zombified. Averted when he is normal.

* KarmicButtMonkey: He almost always gets comically punished for the things he does, especially when [HulkingOut Bad Kaeloo]] shows up.

* KarmaHoudini:

* HeroesWantRedheads: In one episode, he even rejected a potential girlfriend because he found out she dyed her hair and wasn't an actual redhead. When he winds up with his girlfriend Ursula, she's TheUnseen, so the viewers can never tell if she's a redhead or not (through it's implied that she is actually a blonde rather than a redhead).

* ParentalNeglect: His parents don't pay much attention to him, probably because of their large family.
