* FieryRedhead: Downplayed. She is an outgoing, spirited and feisty young red vixen who can lose her temper now and than, but she also more down-to-earth and levelheaded who only really loses her temper when Hugo acts immature one time too many.

* BagofKidnapping: She does get captured by humans and one of them was put in the bag with a human baby being mistaken as the baby's pet.

* CheerfulChild: He's little too old to be considered a child, but otherwise follows this trope, being a cheerful and lively young animal with a cocky and spirited personality.

* ActionGirl: Rita is usually the one who does the heavy lifting when times calls for it, and usually the one who has to save Hugo when he finds himself in trouble.

* TheTrickster: He tends to use his quick wits and tricks in order to fool and deceive predators and sometimes to con other animals, with varying results.

The deuteragonist of the franchise, Rita is a young red vixen who lived with her family in Copenhagen and met Hugo during one of her night walks. They quickly bonded and has then become an inseparate duo, with Rita being Hugo's ever loyal best friend who follows him in any adventure he finds himself thrown into.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While being kind and loyal, Hugo can be also selfish and childish at times, much to the chagrin of Rita who nearly breaks things off with him because it, but he eventually realizes his mistakes and tries to make up for it

* BecomingTheMask: After a disastrous attempt by Conrad to force Hugo to act in his movie, Hugo decides to play along the next day, if only so that he can be rewarded with food if he does. But after one successful shot, the praise and the rewards that he gets to enjoy goes over his head and he quickly fancies himself as the next movie star. It takes Rita to scold him [[WhatTheHellHero for putting being a captive human pet before his own freedom]] to see things right again.

Now he tries to avoid being captured by them while having one adventure to the next with his new best friend, Rita the fox.
