The [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters many]] characters of the ''WebComic/{{Housepets}}'' webcomic.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Cats]]
!!Grape Jelly Sandwich
----
%% * [[ActionGirl Action Cat]]
* AffectionateNickname: From Maxwell: Kitty Whiskers
* AfraidOfDoctors: As seen in [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/01/23/sweet-memories/ this]] strip, Grape's first encounter with a veterinarian seemed like meeting Cthulhu. She still harbors a distrust of vets. Of note: animals in the ''Housepets!'' universe act much like furry children.
* BrokenPedestal: Despite Peanut warning her this might happen, she ends up being severely disappointed when she finds out that [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2010/12/20/are-you-listening/ Miss Auburn is the frontman for Res' stories]] and that she isn't the real author.
* CatsAreSnarkers: Certainly true of Grape.
* CheshireCatGrin: Naturally, though not quite as often as you'd expect. Max seems to be rubbing off on her.
* TheChosenOne: Averted twice. Pete initially had plans to make Grape his avatar, and claimed Spirit Dragon interfered by getting Tarot involved. Pete strongly suggested he still had ways to make Grape his avatar at his temple, but Zach ended up waking Pete up by accident. Since then, Pete said there was no point anymore and started switching his interest towards King.
* EverybodyWasKungFuFighting: Channeled this as a kitten. Once she acquired a broom, The kidnapper and the alligator didn't know what they were getting into afterwards.
* ExtremeOmnivore: The type one variety. Dog food, mud, burritos, and whatever Maxwell put into her sandwich (Hint: It was green), she's unphased by it. When asked what the weirdest thing she ate was? Dolphin.
* {{Fangirl}}: Lampshaded in ''Pridelands''. She talks about the series in a straight and intelligent manner, but even she gets caught offguard from something as distracting as lions in tribal gear. She's also been caught writing fanfiction more than once ([[SelfInsertFic self-insert]] on one occasion), and then there was her letter to one of the actors of [[TheFilmOfTheBook the movie]]...
* HatesBaths: Alt-text of [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/11/08/tastes-like-glue/ this]] comic strongly suggests she hates baths. However, it should be noted she's not afraid of going on water slides or getting wet in a shower (if only to see if Mr. Sandwich has thumbs on his feet). It's most likely she just hates the shampoo and her parents washing her.
* HeroicBystander[=/=]BadassBystander: [[spoiler:To both Max and Fox when they were young. Even more awesome when you notice she was younger and smaller than both of them!]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Grape once threatened to stab Maxwell with a sharpened candy cane.
* InterspeciesRomance: After years of teasing, turns out to have one with Peanut.
* KillerRabbit: Although Grape can have a short temper at times (especially when her naps are interrupted), she always approaches acts of violence with a straight face.
** Like [[spoiler:when she hit Bino over the head with a frying pan during one of his paranoid tirades]].
** Or [[spoiler:when she ate the leader of some revolutionary Communist mice]].
** Or [[spoiler:when she threatened King for flirting with Peanut's girlfriend, Tarot]].
** Or [[spoiler:as a kitten she shredded both Puppy Bino's face as well as the sign saying "No Cats Allowed" without even changing expressions]].
** She's also threatened to [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/03/17/kitty-talk/ "balance out" Maxwell's ears]] if he gets too fresh with her. If you've seen his ears, you can probably guess what that entails.
** And then she once [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/12/22/if-only-in-my-dreams/ threatened to shiv Maxwell with a candy cane]].
** Even in another dimension, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/07/31/a-dish-of-fish/ Grape is willing to punch Maxwell]] over food.
%% * LoveThyNeighbour.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Masculine Girl to Peanut's Feminine Boy.
* MeaningfulName: Her fur color was part of Mr. Sandwich's [[ThemeNaming motivation]] for wanting to adopt her, because it's the color of grape jelly.
* SecretKeeper: Of Joey's cat Cosplay until she found out the cats knew anyway, Fido and Sabrina's forbidden relationship, and Res's role in creating the ''Prideland'' series of books. Although not mean-spirited or intentional at all ([[FailedASpotCheck because Maxwell failed to notice it]]), her and Peanut's relationship ended up being this.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She maybe into stronger boys, but she would take a sweet and considerate boyfriend over jerkish hunks anyday.
* {{Tomboy}}: To LadyLooksLikeADude levels. The comic was a good few months old before anyone realized Grape was female, much to her annoyance. The revelation didn't change her interactions with anyone except [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/08/i-swear-its-platonic/ Peanut]] and [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/12/12/so-thats-a-no/ Max]]. Lampshaded and punned [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/06/i-planned-this-joke-for-an-awful-long-time/ here]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Best shown when she originally met Peanut, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/01/11/the-three-sssss/ which comprised of her yelling at him to leave her alone]], [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/01/13/poetry-in-the-raw/ then getting sad when he had to go.]] She's mellowed out since, but it still shows up now and then.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Grape believes humans are like this towards malls. Especially in regards to their {{Unlimited Wardrobe}}s.
* WomenPreferStrongMen: Grape is ''this'' for leopards due to how tall and muscular they are. Grape notes to Sabrina, however, that she is at least aware she doesn't have a serious shot at them. [[spoiler:It turns out this not only stretches to cats, but to dogs as well]]
** In fact, her "type" when it comes to men, is generally hunky. If they look like a body-builder, they'll typically [[SomethingElseAlsoRises get a reaction out of her]]. Whether she actually likes them or not depends on personality. see SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Practically all pets have a natural fur color. But Grape's is purple.

!!Maxwell
----
* {{Adorkable}}
--> '''Grape''': Oh Maxie, I'd think you were pathetic if you weren't so adorable.
* AffectionateNickname: From Grape and (at one time) Sabrina: Maxie.
* AwkwardKiss: From Rufus, of all people. However, it's eventually revealed to be that the kiss had an entirely different meaning: Maxwell was an injured, scared kitten in the rain with wild animals hunting for him and he was begging Rufus to stay with him. Considering how scared Maxwell was before his story was interrupted, it's reasonable to assume Rufus was trying to calm Maxwell down.
* BigBrotherInstinct: This is shown to be one of the main reasons he went against a crocodile in the first place when he was clearly terrified. At the time, he didn't want a kitten to be hurt and decided to be a distraction for the crocodile while Grape and Fox got away. He also appears to have been attached to Grape before he found out she was a girl, giving her news of the stuff going on around Babylon Garden.
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: His constant haughtiness is because of his inner insecurities over just getting people to ''like'' him. He's afraid that if he doesn't put forth the absolute best effort to impress those around him, he won't be good enough to warrant anyone's attention, ''especially'' Grape's. [[spoiler: It's also the same reason he didn't reply to Rufus's letters. He felt he couldn't come up with a good enough letter to write back to Rufus about and ended up being too late when Rufus passed away.]]
* CatsHaveNineLives: Implied.
* CaughtInTheRain: [[BlatantLies I'M NOT CRYING IT'S THE RAIN!]]
* CheshireCatGrin: He loves to do this whenever he's trying to drive a point home. Which is a lot.
* EarAche: The bite mark on his right ear. It's currently unknown how he received it.
* FailedASpotCheck: Poor Maxwell didn't notice that Peanut and Grape were lovers, despite dating Grape for years 'and' when he sang [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 "Can you Feel the Love tonight"]] to them… [[EpicFail while they were playing as Simba and Nala]]
* HeroicBystander: Was one back when him and Fox were kidnapped years back. [[spoiler:This was, Ironically enough, also when he started to develop his insecurities towards Grape, since it wasn't Max that saved Fox and Grape, But Grape herself. And she only started to save them when Max got in trouble.]]
* HighOnCatnip: To the point of taking catnip from complete strangers.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Towards Grape.
* InsecureLoveInterest
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: It's been said in the cast page that Maxwell is known for getting kicks out of annoying people, and it's been shown on occasion he has done jerkish things in the past (Which Grape calls him out on), but it's shown that he also doesn't want to be considered malicious to some of his friends. Grape has strongly hinted that this is the reason she sticks with Maxwell.
* MedalOfDishonor: Maxwell's bell is one of these. He was so bad at catching mice when he was a kitten that the mice snuck a bell on him while he was sleeping.
* MuscleAngst: Decides to work out while Grape is busy fangirling on Jata, fearing that Jata will cause her to lose interest over Max. Turns out Grape likes him more for being adorable than muscular anyway, since she's well aware how bad he is at acting tough. It later gets averted when Maxwell points out that he learned this was part of [[IAmWhatIam Grape's character]]
* SecretKeeper: Res's role in creating the ''Pridelands'' series of books.
* ScareEmStraight: This is what happens to Max after a night in a haunted house. Compared to the other things being done to scare the others that night...
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: Rufus's letters, though it becomes a memento after a visit from Rufus.]]
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: Just like Peanut, it was played Straight as well at first. [[spoiler: Although Maxwell straight out tried asking her for a date once he found out.]]
* UnsoundEffect: '''[[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/07/26/to-the-market-to-the-market/ BOOT]]''' to the head!

!!Sabrina D'Angelo
----
* AffectionateNickname: According to Sabrina and Max when they were dating: Kitty Whiskers
* AscendedExtra: Sabrina used to appear very rarely, now she appears a LOT more. It's even lampshaded once.
--> '''AltText''': *gasp* Sabrina said words.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: Towards Jata. She didn't take it seriously, but to her defense, she was only six months old. [[spoiler: It ends up being taken too literally by Jata, as he ignores the fact that Sabrina already tried brushing him off a few times with 'Concord' and Fido, and he still tries to marry her.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She can't bring herself to kill the animals she manages to catch, so she tasks Fido with taking care of them instead. That's how Fido acquired his HeadPet, Spo.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Sabrina and Jata.
* InterspeciesRomance: A secret one with Fido (though she isn't as uptight about keeping it a secret as he is). She used to be in one with Jata, a leopard.
* LongLived: She remembers [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/10/23/ages-ago/ when cell phones weren't so commonplace]], which is actually pretty old for a cat. But don't try to point that out to her, or she ''will'' get ugly.
* MagicalGirlfriend: to Fido, and formerly one to Maxwell. She is capable of '''[[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/10/25/the-works/ bold text on a Ouija board]]''', and ''may'' be capable of (or has the connections to) have someone [[RetGone erased from existence]]. It's possible she was bluffing, but Fido took the threat ''very'' seriously.
* SecretKeeper: Her current relationship with Fido, her previous relationship with Jata and the connection between King and Joel Robinson. [[spoiler: None of them are secrets anymore.]]
* WillingChanneler: In-Training. WordOfGod states that should something happen [[spoiler: to Tarot]], Sabrina can take over the role [[spoiler: of Spirit Dragon's avatar.]] [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/07/09/so-its-more-of-a-ceasefire/ We eventually get to see what this would look like]], complete with DynamicEntry.

!!Res
----
* {{Adorkable}}: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/12/17/oh-no-not-again/ Here]].
* AdrenalineMakeover: A rare gender-flipped example. Res is normally timid, nervous, and a ShrinkingViolet, but gaining weretiger powers in the temple had made Res's fur noticeably more scruffy and rugged, something Grape notices as she expresses interest in staying near him to see if he has a [[{{fetish}} burlier form]].
* BadassAdorable: His weretiger form in the Temple Crashers 2 arc.
* BrokenPedestal: Played with and mostly subverted. While his owner ''does'' take credit for his work, [[spoiler:Res wants it that way due to being very shy, and feeling indebted to her for taking him in when he was a stray]].
* CanadaEh
* CreatorBreakdown: A minor case. Part of the reason why he visits the Sandwiches is because he's tired of "eating and breathing ''Pridelands''", and needs a break. [[spoiler:Later on, he has another as a result of WritersBlock because he can't figure out how to end the ''Pridelands'' series to his satisfaction, and runs straight to the Sandwich family for help.]][[invoked]]
* SecretKeeper: The identity of the real ''Pridelands'' author.
* ShrinkingViolet: A male example, though he's somewhat prone to outbursts.
* ToughActToFollow: How he felt about Rufus.

!!Fiddler and Keys
* AmbiguousGender: Sort of. One's a boy and the other's a girl, but it's never specified which one is which.
* CatConcerto: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]]. Their owners wanted musical cats, hence their names and occupation.
* CreatorCouple: Apparently their relationship is "strained", but they do date.
* MeaningfulName: Guess what instruments they play.

!!Jasper
----
%% * AmusingInjuries
* {{Expy}}: of [[WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry Tom]]. He even shares his name with Tom's first incarnation.
* TheVoiceless: As would befit an expy of Tom, he's only ever spoken in quotes from the ''Tom And Jerry'' cartoons.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Pretty much the only unnaturally colored pet in the comic other than Grape.

!!Mr. Bigglesworth
* AmbiguousGender: Since they're all virtually identical, it's hard to tell which ones are male and female. Even ''they'' have trouble with it, leading to more than one UnsettlingGenderReveal.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Only some of the Bigglesworths are related, but they all look pretty much the same. Things get even weirder when they do things like give role call or go on dates.
* PlanetOfSteves: They are at least [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2009/06/03/yes-all-of-them/ eleven]] different cats, all named Mr. Bigglesworth (yes, even the girls). They blame it on their owner being a stereotypical CrazyCatLady, but occasionally they use it to mess with people.
* ShoutOut: To Speed Racer. When they get into a go-cart race at the ferrets' theme park, one of the Bigglesworths dresses up in a Racer "B" costume. Parodied because the Mr. Bigglesworth announcing the race can't see through the PaperThinDisguise.

!!Marvin
----
* ThoseTwoGuys: Him and Tiger.
* StraightMan: He's usually juxtaposed with Tiger as the "normal" one between them, and often states the obvious about whatever zany thing Tiger is doing.

!!Delusional Steve
----
* CloudCuckoolander: He's so out there that he will conspire to out-think ''imaginary versions of himself'' for no discernable reason.
* FunetikAksent: He briefly adopts one wherein he pronounces "w" like "v" and thus calls himself "The Viper" (really "The Wiper", as he was shoveling snow from walks at the time) which he claims is [[InsaneTrollLogic part of an alias to prevent mice from knowing he's coming]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dogs]]
!!Peanut Butter Sandwich (Canadian Pointer mix)
----
* {{Adorkable}}: Peanut is a sweet-natured and adorable goofball, through and through.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Although he can focus on specific issues that he's interested in, it's not that difficult for something to come along that draws away his attention. He has also been known to get into UnusuallyUninterestingSight territory a few times because of it, being completely glued into whatever he has his attention on at the time, missing important key bits of information.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: A fact that Sabrina points out with his stories of Star Wars in 5000 B.C.
* TheCutie: Oh so very much.
* DogsAreDumb: PlayedWith. He's definitely not as smart as Grape, but he's usually got pretty average intelligence. [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny Unless he gets distracted.]]
* GeniusDitz: Apparently, he's a pretty fast freader.
* {{Keet}}: Often acts like one as he has a lot of energy.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Feminine Boy to Grape's Masculine Girl.
* MeaningfulName: Aside from Mr. Sandwich's affinity for ThemeNaming, his fur color ''does'' resemble that of peanut butter.
* InterspeciesRomance: What he wishes he could have with Grape. He's into cats as revealed very early on, but not so much that he can't also fall in love with Tarot. Finally averted when it's revealed they were actually in love for a long time and have continuously been doing lover related stuff since then, including dating. [[FailedASpotCheck Maxwell just thought it was 'super cute']]
* RealMenDontCry: Inverted. He even tells Grape that "crying is good for anxiety".
* SecretKeeper: Joey's cat Cosplay until he found out the cats already knew, Sabrina and Fido's forbidden relationship, and Res's role in creating the ''Pridelands'' books series. He unintentionally was one to Maxwell when it was revealed Peanut and Grape were lovers due to Maxwell not taking their romantic jestures seriously enough.
* SuperSpeedReading: Although it goes against the typical usage of the trope in that in this case it doesn't suggest super intelligence but rather just a lovable quirk. He ''did'' mention having cleaned out the local library, though.
* TerribleArtist: Well not ''terrible'', but his drawings of ''Spot (Superdog)'' are just a bunch of simple sketches.
* WeirdnessCensor: He's surprisingly lax about having a psychic girlfriend, being friends with ''another'' psychic, subsequently discovering that AllMythsAreTrue, and finally finding out that said girlfriend [[spoiler:has some sort of partnership with a freakin' dragon who is ALSO in love with him]].
--> '''Sabrina''': ...Nothing ever fazes you, does it?

!!King Milton (Pembroke Welsh Corgi)[=/=]Joel Zechariah Robinson
A former human and member of [[AnimalWrongsGroup PETA]], who was transformed to fill a role in a game between godlike beings.
----
* AffectionateNickname: From Sasha: Kingy.
* AttractiveBentSpecies: King, who had been [[InvoluntaryTransformation involuntarily changed]] from a human known as Joel to a Welsh Corgi, is said by Fox, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/14/hot-and-bothered/ to have the potential to "be a real ladykiller"]]. Later, said changed character [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/28/that-would-be-weird/ is seen hitting on several female canine characters]], albeit under the influence of [[ICantBelieveItsNotHeroin orange soda]]. Duchess refers to him as "mouth-frothingly adorable". Later he finds himself attracted to Fox's cousin Bailey, and needs to remind himself "Don't go native!"
* BerserkButton: Given how rough the cosmic game was for him, after it ends he reacts very negatively to any suggestion that he do ''anything'' involved with it again.
-->'''Bailey:''' ''Then if we're so hard up (''trying to find a babysitter)'', why not ask the kitsu-
-->'''King:''' ''Don't say it don't even'' think ''it.'' '''''He sees.'''''
-->'''Bailey:''' ''Hon, do you need a lie down?''
-->'''King:''' '''''Yes, always.'''''
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Can't Hold His Orange Soda]]: One drink has him dancing on the table, waving his collar around and calling for everyone to get naked.
* ChickMagnet: Fox has said King has potential to be such.
* ChristianityIsCatholic: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2010/05/24/king-in-a-series-of-costumes-at-the-sears-photo-center/ King seems to belive in purgatory]] which is almost exclusively Catholic belief. Though it could just be that he was RaisedCatholic.
* CosmicPlaything: After finding out about the astral D&D game, he can't help but feel like one.
* ThePaladin: The role Pete intended for Joel/King in the celestials' game of Universes & Unrealities.
* EasyAmnesia: {{Averted}} and {{lampshaded}} [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/25/its-getting-hot-out-here/ in this comic]], after King had taken a nasty tumble down the stairs while locked inside a dog carrier.
* TheEeyore: He's easily the most pessimistic dog out of the cast besides probably Tiger.
* GenreSavvy: An interesting case with King is that he's genre savvy enough to figure out the things Pete is going to do with him. [[RealityEnsues He just doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. ]]
* GoingNative: Appears to gradually become more comfortable with his new form, to the point of marrying Bailey and having children.
* HappilyMarried: Gets married to Bailey at the end of the "King and I" story arc. Eventually promoted to a father of three.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: King has let it slip a few times that he doesn't exactly think highly of himself. Even when he was still Joel, he fully recognized & acknowledged that PETA did many amoral things, and that kidnapping & trying to kill Fox was wrong. He mentally refers to himself as a loser at one point (also suggesting that he's thought this about himself for a while), and when he proposes to Bailey, he tearfully admits that he has several flaws and makes mistakes, and that he doesn't really think that she'll say yes. She does.
* KarmicTransformation: Joel, the guy from [[AnimalWrongsGroup PETA]], into King, a dog. With the way the initial plotline unfolds, it almost acts as a deconstruction of ItsAWonderfulPlot. It's [[spoiler: invoked by Pete for his own purposes]].
* TheNapoleon: Subverted. He isn't a mean character but he gets irritated very easily. Bino even lampshades this in one comic.
* SecretKeeper: His human past, and Sabrina and Fido's forbidden relationship. [[spoiler:Both of these become open by the time the arcs involving Universes and Unrealities came to the conclusion]].
* SirSwearsALot: The only character in the comic that gets the word "censored" on some of the things he says. [[GoshDangIttoHeck Sometimes gets creative with it]]. In one comic, he even gets soap in his mouth for stepping on a toy. Despite this, he's not a casual swearer - He just can't find a better way to emphasize a situation other than being censored.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: The tiny guy to Bailey's huge girl.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Joel had two dogs and a cat that he very much loved when he was a kid, but his parents were abusive towards them. [[spoiler:Eventually they ran away and took him with them, but on the streets they quickly turned on him and ultimately abandoned him. Hence, his initial aversion to pets in general.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: [[spoiler: Temporary gains the ability to switch between his human form and his dog form at will within the Heaven's Not Enough arc simply by wearing his watch-like fate around his neck whether he wants to be a dog. (He only voluntary took it off once. To show Keene he was telling the truth).]]

!!Tarot (Pomeranian)
----
* MagicalGirlfriend: Tarot is a mystic who happens to be a dog. She's Peanut's girlfriend.
* ProperLady: She doesn't appear to be much older than any of the other pets, but she acts notably wiser and more responsible than most. It may be do to her status as an all-knowing psychic, but even then, she's often NotSoAboveItAll.
* ProphetEyes: When she's channeling the source of her power [[spoiler:(Spirit Dragon)]], or when [[spoiler:she]] possesses her, her eyes turn from their normal amber to a bright green.
* PsychicLink: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/23/so-cool/ Tarot has imprinted on Peanut]]. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, it only got used once before the fight between her and Spirit Dragon over Peanut caused the link to break.]]
* RantInducingSlight: Gets into one when stuck back in 5000 B.C. Maxwell tries stating what seems like a simple solution to everyone [[spoiler: That is, ask The Spirit Dragon for everyone that was mistakenly sent back in time that shouldn't be in 5000 B.C]], but Tarot is tired of trying to answer simple [[spoiler:time-travelling]] questions that should be simple to answer. However, due to her [[spoiler:avatar powers being gone]] and that she really isn't sure herself what will happen, she goes into a rant how she's tired of answering simple questions and that she can't solve problems that are usually within her territory.
* SecretKeeper: Of the connection between Joel and King [[spoiler:being one and the same]]. [[spoiler: Said secret eventually became open]].
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: ''Psychic'' chess, that is. And she wins, with "one eye tied behind her back", no less.
* TakingUpTheMantle: The "Housepets 5000BC" arc reveals Tarot was actually the 150th avatar of the dragon, implying the mantle of being the Dragon's avatar was passed down through the generations. The arc deals with the dragon's 2nd avatar having accidentally got stuck within the future.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: She's capable of transforming into a much larger, more monstrous form with the help of Spirit Dragon's powers. [[spoiler:Thus far it's only been used during the battle between Dragon's and Pete's avatars.]]
* WillingChanneler: Initial evidence points to the relationship between her and Spirit Dragon being mutually satisfactory. [[spoiler:Other than quarreling over Peanut's affection, that is.]] Later, however, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/08/29/asking-nicely/ the "willing" aspect eventually comes into question.]]
* YourMindMakesItReal: Tarot's mental projection takes Peanut and Grape's usual pretend playing WAY over the top in this fashion [[note]]in this instance, turning Max into lava and Grape into a deep cavern[[/note]], though Peanut says that it sometimes gets "out of hand". And then Max and Grape decide it would be better to play ''[[FictionalDocument Pridelands]]''...

!!Bailey (Siberian Husky)
----
* AscendedExtra: Started life as "Fox's cousin".
* {{BFS}}: Gains one when [[spoiler:she becomes Pete's "avatar" in the game.]]
* BullyingADragon: She threatens to cut off the wings of a being that, for all practical purposes, is a demigod to her.
* CutHisHeartOutWithASpoon: One of her first comments when meeting [[spoiler:Pete]]? "I will play badminton with your scissored off wings, Beakie!"
* HappilyMarried: She gets married to King at the end of the "The King and I" story arc, and is now a mother of three.
* MagicalGirlWarrior: Is transformed into one in [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/05/14/for-love-and-justice/ this comic]] (warning: spoilers).
* MamaBear: When she, King, and their children accompany the wolves on a camping trip, Gale attempts to ambush them in their sleep, only for Bailey to instantly awaken and grab the puma by the throat.
-->'''Bailey''': "Touch my pups and you'll be wearing your digestive tract like a '''Mardi Gras necklace'''."\\
'''Gale''': "Noted."
* RedEyesTakeWarning: BattleAura included! Bino became collateral damage to this one.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: As usual, there was confusion with her re-introduction. But in her first appearances she had the eyelashes Rick Griffin usually gives female characters in the strip. Then again, the fluorescent pink hearts helped.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: The huge girl to King's tiny guy.
* UnstoppableRage: If she get mad, someone's gonna seriously get hurt. Not even Grape wants to risk making Bailey mad.

!!Bino (Mutt)
----
* AffectionateNickname: From Sasha: Biney, with a mix of Biney-Bun... and longer extensions of Biney-Bun.
* GreenEyedMonster: He gets jealous over Sasha quite often. He also has [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/05/10/give-a-dog-a-bone/ a particularly evil-looking jealous stare.]] He is highly sensitive to any attempts to take over what is ''his'' regardless of logic or sanity stating otherwise. He's highly antagonistic towards his successful older brother, Fido, and even attacks King on Christmas for "Acting like he owned the place" simply because his name was "King".
* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: It's "Bye-no", not "Beano".
* IronButtmonkey: Seriously, he's been through quite a bit of serious injuries that are realistic and dangerous from what we have seen in the comic, but he always manages to get better again by the following two arcs.
* {{Jerkass}}: Even with those who consider him friends he tends to be quite disagreeable, becoming downright hostile to those he's not friendly with. Fox openly wonders why he and Bino are friends on several occasions.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Stuck between Hero Fido and Lovable Goofball Joey.
* TallPoppySyndrome: Has a relentless need to target anyone he thinks is too full of themselves, seen with King and his brother.
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Whenever he gets ADayInTheLimelight.
* VeryPunchableMan: Conveniently serves as someone for Bailey to show how frustrated she is when the time comes.

!!Sasha Hartford (Mutt)
----
* AffectionateNickname[=/=]TheNicknamer: Sasha is usually the one you expect to give all the nicknames to the other pets, but she has at one time been called (really badly) by Bino: Sashy
* AbusiveParents: "Daddy" locks her out of the house pretty frequently, even in winter. The implications [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/05/20/cleaning-solution/ here]] are also grim when you think about it.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Thanks to PETA, She's been trained at obedience school to take the fall for an attempted murder of Keene. The crazy side of the brainwashing kicks in when Fox knows she's innocent, but she begins willingly confessing and attempting to push Fox's buttons by flirting with him while he's on police duty.]] Thankfully, the brainwashing appears to be gone for good since the trainer was arrested.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: While no way NEAR as bad as most examples, it ''is'' said on her character sheet that she dumps [[JerkAss Bi]][[GreenEyedMonster no]] on things like his position in with the other dogs. This has since gone away now that both her and Bino have moved on to see other people.
** And it got WORSE in 2016, where she fully admits to [[spoiler: trying to KILL Keene Milton]] for reasons unknown. As Fox [[ThisCannotBe desperately tries to make her say she didn't do it,]] she just keeps reinforcing the fact with a smile on her face. [[spoiler:Thankfully this was just a consequence of her being BrainwashedAndCrazy.]]
* CloudCuckoolander: Sasha has this personality at times. Though, this [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/05/21/they-always-know/ page]] suggests '''some''' may be an act.
* GeniusDitz: Either this, or she's practicing ObfuscatingStupidity, as she was able to compose a sonata in her head without ever sitting down at a piano, and knew all along that her boyfriend Bino was regifting her, after spending a good while acting like his presents were the best things ever.
** She also writes dog food scripts.
* IdiotSavant: If Sasha is as stupid as others say, she's this.
* MyGirlIsASlut: Has no problem seeking casual liaisons while maintaining an otherwise committed relationship with one dog. Bino didn't like that, but Kevin doesn't seem to care. For what it's worth, Sasha won't permit a casual fling to interfere with her actual relationship.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: As per the above trope, she genuinely doesn't see anything wrong at all with acting lovey-dovey with King ''after'' he's already married Bailey.
* ObfuscatingInsanity[=/=]ObfuscatingStupidity: Evidence supporting both has been provided in various places
* StepfordSmiler: Shades of type A with a heavy helping of [[AbusiveParents denial]]. She comes off as an airhead most of the time, but is cheerful and friendly with all the other pets and mainly serves as comic relief. Then on ''Christmas Eve'', we get this:
-->'''King''': "Aren't you going to go home?"\\
'''Sasha''': "No, Daddy locked me out again 'cause I didn't get him any babes at the party. I think he just forgets when he's mad."
** According to Daisy, she tries to keep up a smile, but there are days where she has trouble even doing ''that'' much, which is when she runs away.
* StockholmSyndrome: She's since been removed from her abusive owner's influence and ownership, and she'll freely admit to how cruel and mean he was to her... but despite all this, she still misses him. Whether this is due to the brainwashing or just fond memories of the good times she had with him is unclear.

!!Joey (Mutt)
----
* AndTheRest: "Joey's Creepy Friends".
* UsefulNotes/FurryFandom: Joey (a dog) likes to cosplay as a cat. He also draws well enough that he charged Peanut $10 for drawing a panel of Peanut's comic ''Spot (Superdog)'' in a much more detailed style than it's normally drawn.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Melancholic among his nerd group as he's usually the perfectionist of the group.
* GogglesDoNothing: As of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being a Dog", he has a blue pair that appears to serve no purpose other than [[RuleOfCool looking cool]].
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Joey's actually one of the shorter dogs, but Squeak ''is'' a mouse.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Squeak (a mouse).
* PaperThinDisguise:
** Played straight at first with only Peanut and Grape finding out by being told, and then later averted when we're told that the cats all know he's a dog in a cat suit, and they're cool with it.
** Attempted and averted again when Bino makes him dress up like a ferret. The Miltons don't buy it at all.
* SecretKeeper: His cat Cosplay, although its not as much of a secret as he thinks it is.
* TookALevelInBadass: Compare [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2011/05/28/enters-the-hero/ this]] to [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/08/07/maybe-the-real-treasure-is-the-friends-we-made-along-the-way/ this]].

!!Tiger Arbelt (Mutt)
----
* {{Adorkable}}: In spite of being a mentally unstable jerk, he does have his [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2015/05/08/mine-eyes-have-seen-the-glory/ moments.]]
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He receives no small amount of ridicule because of his name.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Aside from his eating disorder, there's ''something'' else up with him, alright. No one can quite peg it, though. It's pointed out that his weight remains consistently the same despite the fact that he never exercises, and pretty much eats, sleeps, and watches TV... while consuming upward of 57,000 calories per week... which is scientifically impossible, according to Marvin.
* AxCrazy: Given his reactions in the "Tiger's Very Own Super Special Television Show!", he certainly qualifies as this.
* BerserkButton: As a dog, he's [[NeverHeardThatOneBefore rather tired]] of the [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/18/yup-hes-over-it/ cat jokes]] directed at him.
-->'''Tiger''': Ha! I will never get tired of how you and the other dogs point out that my name is in fact that of a large cat, and that I hang out with a cat!\\
'''Both''': Hahahahahahaha!\\
'''Tiger''': '''''I WILL KILL YOU I WILL KILL YOUR WHOLE FAMILY'''''
* BigEater: He's known for his pretty large appetite.
* CloudCuckoolander: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2010/06/07/stale-jokes-for-stale-mallows/ Oh, yes.]]
** CuckooSnarker: Has his moments of this.
* ComedicSociopath: If the above quote wasn't indicative enough, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/12/01/a-darker-turn/ this]].
* HairTriggerTemper: It doesn't take much to make Tiger mad.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's really not so bad once you get to know him.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Played for Laughs. [[spoiler: Hint: Tiger quoting Tony The Tiger = No sleep tonight.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Tiger's FreudianExcuse for his BerserkButton being making fun of his name.
* NonindicativeName: He's a dog.
* TheSlacker: Tiger's always looking to do the least possible. At one point, he actually started saying "shrug" instead of shrugging.
* TakeThat: The basis for Tiger's whole character is a critical deconstruction of the characterization of ComicStrip/{{Garfield}}. He hates Thursdays, loves pizza, hates cockroaches and likes his teddy bear Poom.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Tiger and Marvin.

!!Daisy (Newfoundland)
----
* TheConfidant: To [[spoiler:Sasha]].
* CatchPhrase: "Hi, I'm Daisy!" For a long time, it was the only thing she's ever said in the comic.
* DistractedByTheShiny: On the cover of the third book, she appears to be more interested in the tag on King's collar than in him table dancing while drunk.
* LivingProp: Pretty much. It gets turned UpToEleven during the Wolfs' Christmas Party, when she's seen ''actually hanging from the ceiling'' with a bunch of party decorations.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:When the chips are on the table, Daisy drops her catchphrase to help with the K-9s.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Given the above, this may very well be in play with her "normal" look.

!!Duchess (Saluki)
----
* EarsAsHair: Her ears are permed.
* RichBitch: Literally as well as figuratively, having no real sympathetic traits to go along with the apparently large bank account she has access to.
* TheScrooge: When Bino used his one phone call for bail, he called Duchess. she didn't even lift a finger for him.
* TheUnfettered: Shows strong signs of this. Her Goal? To win contests by any means necessary, including sabotaging other contestants.

!!Dallas (Dalmatian)
----
* {{Adorkable}}: Just look at his [[https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/housepetscomic/images/c/c9/Dallas.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/180?cb=20160214015348 picture.]] HE IS SO CUTE!!!!
* AscendedExtra: Originally just one of "Joey's Creepy Friends", he got a name in the 2014 Halloween arc.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Has shades of this like when he mocked Peanut, Grape and Maxwell's Imaginate costumes, threatened to collapse Lester's wave function and when he graffitied a wall.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Sanguine among Joey's friends as he gives of an ExtravertedNerd vibe in the Valentine's Day comic.
* {{Keet}}: He generally seems more cheery and energetic than Joey or Lester.
* ShoutOut: Initially averted. When he first appeared under the "Joey's Creepy Friends" title some readers thought his tag, somewhat shaped like a ''Franchise/StarTrek'' uniform emblem, would lead to his being eventually named after the franchise. Confirmed in "Temple Crashers" where he's dressed as Commander Data, despite that not fitting the theme.

!!Rex (Bulldog)
----
* DumbMuscle: Not nearly in the same vein as Kevin, mind you, but judging by Peanut's and Grape's comments, he definitely has this kind of reputation. It may ''just'' be a reputation, though, as he's more simpleminded and reserved than downright stupid.
* IdiotSavant: According to [[WordOfGod Rick]], he has an uncanny ability to taste minute differences in coffee blends.
* RealMenWearPink:
** One of the biggest and strongest dogs, he's seen baking cookies in a holiday arc.
** He also openly liked the new ''[[FictionalDocument Pridelands]]'' novel mentioned [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/04/01/yeah-i-only-read-it-ironically/ here.]]
** It was alluded to in "The Hot Springs Episode" that he may, or may not, [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/12/05/steam-games/ be in a relationship with one of the Bigglesworth cats]]

!!Lester (Mutt)
* AscendedExtra: Was Ret Named with his own tag after beginning life under the tag "Joey's Creepy Friends".
* KillerGameMaster: When Kitsune decides to join him in a game of D&D, he expresses a hope that he has a stack of replacement characters to use. He apparently considers any other DM behavior to be boring. Kitsune makes the game real and completely turns the tables on Lester.
* FanDumb: InUniverse, he's basically the poster boy for the trope, with OpinionMyopia being the least of his problems.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Choleric among Joey's nerdy friends. Her's by far the most aggressive of the bunch.
* JerkAss: Lester is best described as a "nerd version of Bino".

!!Devo
* AscendedExtra: Appears at the very end of the "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel" arc, where it turns out that he's owned by Lois' family.
* LivingProp: Along with Griswald and Sten, his purpose is to portray dogs in the Good Ol' Dogs club who aren't in the main cast.

!!Griswald
* LivingProp: He, Devo, and Sten were created just so the Good Ol' Dogs club would have some members who weren't in the main or recurring cast.

!!Sten (Chihuahua)
* LivingProp: Like Devo and Griswald, he really only exists to illustrate that there are dogs in the Good Ol' Dogs club other than some of the main characters. And to weird out Sasha.
* PottyFailure: Implied [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2016/09/22/crossfire/ here.]]
* TooMuchInformation: "I have a urinary cyst."

!!Boris (Russian Wolfhound)
* DumbMuscle: Acts as hired muscle originally for the GODC, later for Duchess.

!!Yeltsin (Bull Terrier/originally Russian Wolfhound)
* FunetikAksent: A Brooklyn one.
* RetCon: Yeltsin was originally paired with Boris. After the [=v3=] re-design, his breed and personality were changed.

!!Olive, Ace, and Rook (Mutts)
The offspring of King and Bailey. Olive and Ace are girls, while Rook is a boy.
* BlindingBangs: Ace's [[EarsAsHair ears]] act as this.
* CheerfulChild: Olive especially.
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The [=K9=] Unit]]
!!Fido Byron (Mutt)
----
* AffectionateNickname: From Sasha and Sabrina: Fidey
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Is [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2019/08/12/police-rapport/ skeptical]] that Marion turned into a squirrel, despite the fact that he is ''dating a witch.''
* BrokenAce: He was TheAce for much of the beginning of the series, but went through this once his relationship with Sabrina was exposed. Bino KangarooCourt'ed his tail out of the Good Ol' Dogs Club, and it led to a suspension from the K-9 unit--not because he was with Sabrina, which Ralph (at least professionally) [[NotThatTheresAnythingWrongWithThat didn't have issue with]], but [[CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot because of his antics in breaking up her arranged marriage with Jata]].
* BrokenPedestal: For Fox, [[spoiler:after Fido reveals his relationship with Sabrina on live television]]. Though Fox is really more upset that [[spoiler:he kept it a secret]] and has a hard time blaming him for it, especially given all the consequences it had already brought about at that point.
* ChickMagnet: Especially after he graduates from the K-9 police academy.
* CoolShades: While all of the police dogs have visors, his are instead normal glasses that resemble LennonSpecs, and he wears them off duty as well.
* DeadpanSnarker: Spo really brings out this side to him.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: When on duty with his K-9 unit.
* HeadPet: Spo.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Sabrina, secretly [[spoiler:until the "Jungle Fever" arc.]]
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Since a pup, Fido was always neutral towards cats, unlike the other cats and dogs. Then again, his girlfriend ''is'' a cat, so that might have contributed to it some.
* SecretKeeper: His relation with Sabrina. [[spoiler:[[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/10/30/le-gasp/ As of this,]] it's no longer a secret.]]
* ThickerThanWater: Despite how much of a jerk Bino is, he still hangs out with him and genuinely seems to enjoy it. [[spoiler:This comes back to bite him, however, when King was shouting for Fido and Fox to stop Bino from breaking his watch. Fido stood outside the club within ears-length of the whole thing and was willing to let everything unfold, dismissing the event as petty. It took a threat from his girlfriend to stand up to Bino.]]

!!Sergeant Ralph (German Shepherd)
----
* ByTheBookCop: May even have shades of DaChief, although he's actually a Sergeant.
* TheyCallMeMisterTibbs: Always shown in the tags of the comic as "Sergeant Ralph", and for one time when he was younger as "Officer Ralph".

!!Fox Lindberg (Siberian Husky)
----
* AffectionateNickname: From Sasha: Foxie, with a mix of Foxie-Bon.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a pretty nice guy on any given day, despite hanging out with Bino. However, he gets surprisingly violent when the PETA members kidnap him, even threatening to rip them apart if he gets free. [[spoiler: Ironically enough, he eventually gets that opportunity in [[WhamEpisode Heaven's Not Enough]] and almost takes it.]]
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: As a pup, he believed he was destined to be the hero of a "summer action blockbuster", as has been lampshaded multiple times. But when he joined the K-9 unit, he resorted to this as a coping mechanism to deal with lingering bitter feelings over Fido's relationship with Sabrina.
* ClearTheirName: Intends to do this to Sasha when she's accused of [[spoiler: attempting to murder Keene Milton.]] And, boy, [[{{Determinator}} does he commit to that.]] So much so, that when she [[spoiler: flat out admits she did it,]] he's utterly flabbergasted and desperately trying make it look like she's just being an idiot.
* DramaticDrop: He dropped the T.V. Remote when he finds out about Fido [[spoiler:being a cat lover.]]
* EyepatchOfPower: Subverted, starts wearing one after [[spoiler: Steward]] claws him across the eye, only for the vet to tell him he barely scratched the cornea and he won't even need glasses.
* EyeScream: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed.]] He gets his eye scratched by [[spoiler:Steward]] but the damage is minimal and it heals up fine.
* HammerSpace: Fox seems to at least be able to hold an entire wallet [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/16/deliberations-over-ice-cream/ in his bandana]].
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Sometimes wears a Bombardier's jacket.
* InnocentBystander: Back when Fox and Maxwell were both kidnapped.
* NonindicativeName: He's a Siberian husky.
* ScarsAreForever: His eye might have healed, but the clawmarks on his brow and cheek remain. [[spoiler: His FutureBadass self [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2020/12/25/tidings-of-comfort-and-joy/ Winter]] has even more scars.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Kind of after joining the K9. He has certainly become a lot physically stronger at least, even if the same can't really be said for his mental state.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Even he questions why he bothers being friends with someone like [[{{Jerkass}} Bino]] rather than Peanut, who is much nicer and shares more interests with him.

!!Mungo (Great Dane)
----
* AfraidOfNeedles: Big, strong, by-the-book... bolts right through the door when the vet prepares to give him his booster shot.
* BigGuy: A former member of the SWAT team, he's both big, and very strong.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: He's big and heavily muscled, but he just about [[{{Squee}} squees]], complete with starry eyes when he meets his new partner and gives him a big, bone-crushing hug in excitement.
* BusmansHoliday: Mungo spends Heavendropper being a psychologist for Fox, to the husky's annoyance.
* ByTheBookCop: He will not stand for hiding or disposing of evidence.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: This guy can lift up a limo with one hand, without showing any strain whatsoever. And unlike [[spoiler:his possible ancestor Satau]] he pulls it off with no discernible powers to speak of.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Well, he actually does, but he tends to forget when he gets excited. Which is what leads to broken doors and Fox's spine nearly getting crushed.
* GeniusBruiser: Mungo's a certified therapy dog on top of being a K-9 officer (and living battering ram)
* OpenSaysMe: An accident example of the trope. He's pretty well-known for breaking down doors when he's excited or in a hurry. The police station had to get automatic, sliding doors to accommodate him; something the SWAT team was unwilling to pay for, and hence why he was handed (back) over to the police station. Furthermore, he accidentally forces open a locked car door, and he was even trying to be gentle there.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With Satau. [[spoiler: It's strongly hinted this is not a coincidence. Mungo's family is all over North Africa, which is where Satau's home was located around in 5500 B.C]]
* SuperStrength: Inexplicably so.

!!Kevin (Doberman Pinscher)
----
* DonutMessWithACop: Averted, the only time we see Kevin with a donut, it's on Doctor's orders to gain weight. Though he later went on a date with Sasha to the donut shop.
* DumbJock: Exceptionally so. While not the brightest, Kevin performs ''extremely'' well in the physical department and treats even the simplest mandatory physical exam as if it were the Olympics (even the [[ToiletHumor urinalysis portion]]). His body fat is actually ''low'' enough to where the vet forces him to go on a brief diet of foods that specifically contain excess calories. He also offers to give Sasha access to the police gym [[spoiler:when they hook up]].
* DumbMuscle: Anything that doesn't involve tackling, or that he can't ''make'' involve tackling, is not likely to warrant his attention, although one time he did pick up a SmartBall and save the police dogs from a bunch of archaeological artifact thieves.

!!Terrance (English Springer Spaniel)
* TheComicallySerious: ''[[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/10/12/not-another-new-character/ ENHANCE!]]''
* DemotedToExtra: Terrance is popular among fans, but has appeared in only two official strips since his first arc, "The Case of the Aztec Gold" in 2011. [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2020/09/01/mocking-comics/ This is occasionally lampshaded in guest comics.]]
* DetectiveAnimal: He is hired to act as liaison between the K-9 unit and forensics. He's decent, if a bit eccentric.

[[folder:The Milton Ferrets]]
!!As a whole
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/housepets_ferrets.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:L-to-R: Keene, Pit, Duke, Breel, Rock, Lana, Simon\\
For info on Breel, see the Heaven section below]]
* CloudCuckoolander: They built a theme park based on theme parks. They were trying to come up with a theme, so they put tons of ideas on a board and threw a dart... and the dart hit the board's name: "Theme Park Ideas."
* ConspicuousConsumption: They've all been known to indulge in mindless hedonism, their pool is usually filled with some sort of edible product and they have a chocolate fondue jacuzzi for instance.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: While technically benevolent, they show signs of this when it comes to money, like hiring a corrupt judge so that potential lawsuits go out in their favor and hosting a fair just to avoid paying tax. They also apparently fear the IRS, if the fact that Cerberus' IntimidatingRevenueService being successful on one of them is of any indication.
* LastSupperSteal: [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/10/06/lets-get-down-to-business/ The ferrets and Breel appeared like this]] during "Temple Crashers 2". Breel is in the Jesus position, and Keene has an EyeTake as he's in the Judas position.[[note]]In case you're curious who's who, Pit and Duke (L-R in that order) are next to Keene in the respective positions of Peter and John; while Rock, Lana, and Simon (again L-R in that order) are to Breel's left in the respective positions of James the Great, Phillip, and Matthew.[[/note]]
* PetHeir: The ferrets were named in the will of Mr. Milton, the founder of Babylon Gardens.

!!Keene
The de facto leader of the Milton ferrets and the one with by far the most screen time. Also the only one who seems to care about their "dad's" dreams of animal-human equality, founding the "Equal Chance Program".
----
* ClosetKey: Breel. ThePowerOfLove in the form of a deep kiss is what breaks Breel's chains in Pandemonium, and Keene likes it enough he wants to keep making out right there... much to his demon pal's irritation, since the little guy just wants to escape to Earth.
* CoolShades: Usually seen wearing sunglasses when outdoors, and sometimes indoors as well.
* DrunkOnMilk: Established the running gag of pets getting intoxicated on soda while drowning out his guilt over spending his inheritance flippantly with orange soda.
* OnlySaneMan: Certainly less of a Cloudcuckoolander than his "brothers", possibly on par with his sister Lana in the sanity department. And to make matters worse, he has to put up with Karishad's antics as well.
* StraightGay: Keene has never shown any effeminate qualities. If not for [[ClosetKey his relationship with Breel]], you could never tell.
* UnscrupulousHero: Has no qualms using his money and connections to get what he wants.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His callous brush-off of Breel during the "Temple Crashers 2" mega-arc led to the game going into Hard Mode as [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/12/15/double-hockey/ Breel's tears in the mana pool opened a portal directly to The Bad Place.]] And [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/02/23/give-the-devil-his-due/ his agreement for the demon's help]] to set them free may lead [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/02/23/give-the-devil-his-due/ to additional bad things happening,]] as alluded to in "Heckraiser".
* WellDoneSonGuy: Keene wants to make his "father's" dream of equality between animals and humans a reality.

!!Duke
----
* StealthPun[=/=]MeaningfulName: Duke Milton. 'Dook' is the accepted term for describing a ferret's sound.

!!Lana
The most level-headed of the ferrets. When Keene considers retirement and a mundane life with Breel, she becomes the new Chair of the Milton enterprises.
----
* OnlySaneWoman: Apparently the one who keeps the household running.
* OutnumberedSibling: The only jill out of the six ferrets.

!!Pit
----
* ConspicuousConsumption: The most notable example among the ferrets, in his second appearance he's trying on a flashy silver jacket sequined with diamonds and the cast page claims he once bought an old missile silo and filled it with vanilla pudding.
* CoolShades: Wears a variety of star-shaped sunglasses, or this one with lit sparklers [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2015/06/19/so-you-think-you-can-dine/ attached]].
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: In his later appearances has taken to wearing a hot pink sweater.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Pit, usually.

!!Rock
The second most plot-significant ferret, after Keene. Amateur director and producer of whatever medium strikes his fancy.
----
* ExpressiveHair: Rock, whose head fur [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/09/24/home-again-home-again/ flares up]] on occasion whenever he's excited.
* PrimaDonnaDirector: His entire filmography is pretty much just to fuel his own ego.

!!Simon
* CannotKeepASecret: His owner left a treasure map with a note [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/01/15/a-man-of-secrets-a-ferret-of-none/ specifically for him]] not to display it, what does he do next? Talk about it on a talk show [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/01/18/pool-of-tantalus/ of course]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Pets]]
!!Zach Arbelt (Rabbit)
----
* BreakingOutTheBoss: Inadvertently releases Pete.
* ExpressiveEars: Almost as much as the cats.
* HappilyAdopted: [[ZigzaggedTrope Zigzagged]]. He was glad to get out of the pet store after spending most of his life there, but the combined weirdness of witnessing and/or getting involved with the antics of the neighborhood pets, being unwillingly worshiped by the local wildlife, living with [[ComedicSociopath Tiger]], and receiving relatively little attention otherwise has all caused him to wonder if it's worth it.
* OnlySaneMan: He thinks he's this. He's really NotSoAboveItAll at some times.
* OnlyTheWorthyMayPass: Poor Zach didn't know what he was getting into by being the only critter that pushed the button on the gate of the temple...
* UnwantedFalseFaith: Is worshiped by the various forest creatures as the "Opener of Ways" for accidentally opening the entrance to Pete's temple.

!!Itsuki Kitamura (Raccoon dog)
----
* CutenessProximity: If the AltText is anything to go by, he sometimes has this effect on people, though it annoys him more than anything.
* GratuitousJapanese: He sometimes uses it. Earl Sandwich even mentions the trope by name, saying that Itsuki can keep using it [[RuleOfCute because it's cute]].
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: During his off-hours he is always seen wearing only a rokushaku or Etchū fundoshi, a Japanese loincloth. When at work he also wears a uniform and while at school he wears a shirt and tie tucked into the fundoshi.
* HotSpringsEpisode: Itsuki took the fact that Keene made the portable onsen unisex very seriously, and [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/12/10/tunnel-of-love/ kept to himself]] in a private bath.
* JapanesePoliteness: Is a stickler for Japanese social norms, which naturally leads to CultureShock now that he's living in America.
* MrFixit: Of the auto-mechanic variety.
* StarvingStudent: Mr. Sandwich theorizes that Itsuki's invitation for the Sandwich family to eat at his apartment (which is cartoonishly tiny) is a thinly-veiled attempt to let them know how much he needs a job.
* {{Tanuki}}: Itsuki's fundoshi is a nod to known tropes regarding the physical traits of raccoon dogs.

!!Spo (Mouse)
----
* AlphabeticalThemeNaming: Spo's next youngest and oldest brothers are Spn, and Spp.
* CasanovaWannabe: He tries to hit on Squeak for a bit, though she rejects his advances due to being in a relationship with Joey. He gets turned off slightly when he inquires [[WhatDoesSheSeeInHim what she sees in him]], [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2013/07/05/stamp-of-approval/ and she promptly demonstrates.]]
-->'''Spo:''' I am both impressed and appalled. I am ''impalled''.
* {{Claustrophobia}}: He's not particularly fond of staying in Fido's locker.
* HeadPet: Often he hitches a ride aboard Fido's head, after having been given to Fido by Sabrina.
* HotBlooded: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/05/20/backseat-driver/ See for yourself]]:
--> '''Spo:''' '''''THIS IS EXCITING AND ALSO AWESOME''''' Are you gonna go all '''''Series/{{Cops}}''''' on him when you catch up? '''''PLEASE TELL ME THERE WILL BE BLOOD'''''\\
'''Fido:''' '''''THIS IS WHY I DON'T LET YOU TAG ALONG ON MY SHIFT'''''
* SecretKeeper: Fido's relationship with Sabrina.
* SnarkyNonHumanSidekick: Plays this role to Fido (who isn't human either, but you know what we mean).

!!Squeak (Mouse)
----
* AmusingInjuries: As long as it's anyone's foot, Squeak is perfectly happy to be stomped on.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Phlegmatic among Joey's nerd circle as she's the most laid back.
* GiantFootOfStomping: Has somewhat of a fetish for this, as lampshaded by Spo and further mentioned on [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/02/13/like-if-u-cri-every-tine/ her Valentine card]].
--> ''WANTED: a toetal heartthrob not afraid to bare their sole, who wants to get their foot in the door with me''
* InterspeciesRomance: With Joey (a dog).
* NighInvulnerability: Considering that she will ''willingly'' get stomped on without being visibly injured at all, and that's a pretty good way to ''kill'' mice...
%% * ParrotPetPosition

!!Jinx (Mouse)
----
* {{Expy}}: of [[WesternAnimation/TomAndJerry Jerry]]. Like Jasper, his name is the same as Jerry's original name.
* TheUnseen: He has ''one'' on-screen appearance during Grape and Max's date at Heathcliff's, [[ShoutOut setting Jasper's foot on fire as he flirts with a girl cat]]. The only other time he comes up is when others mention him, and he's off-screen.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Wolf-pack]]
!!Miles & Lucretia
Miles and Lucretia are your typical [[HappilyMarried happily mated]] couple trying to fit in to suburban human society; he working for a group of Millionaire ferrets, she trying to remember that most Babylon Gardens residents prefer their food cooked before it is served.
----
* HappilyMarried: The two are mated, not married, but they do seem to be a couple without any unhappiness or conflict between them.
* MamaBear: Hinted at with Lucretia (she is a ''wolf'', after all). In one strip when she's alone with King, she instinctively holds him close too her in a protective fashion. The AltText chalks it up to King invoking this kind of response from most people because of his [[FunSize size]] & [[PreciousPuppies appearance]], and Lucretia is acting as she would if he were one of her pups.
* MeaningfulName: Intentionally. Miles states that the reason wolves wait until maturity to choose a real name is so that they can take time to learn about themselves and pick one that represents them well.
* NakedApron: Lucretia wears a "Sniff the Cook" apron.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Basically the alpha male and female of the Babylon Gardens pack, though portrayed more realistically.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Miles.

!!The Cubs
* NoNameGiven: Intentionally with the cubs, who won't receive permanent names until they reach a certain age. This hasn't stopped them from coming up with rather... interesting names for themselves for the time being. In 2015 they underwent their coming-of-age and settled on North Star, Darth Vader Sanchez, and Rockstar Hawk
* PreciousPuppies: Initially, though they can be a bit rough.

!!Daryl & Daryl
----
* BigEater: Overweight Daryl, definitely. It'd probably be easier to list the instances where he ''isn't'' eating something.
* FlatCharacter: Overweight Daryl exists solely to make fat jokes.
* NobleWolf / SavageWolves: Utterly averted in the "Temple Crashers" Arc. Sabrina recruits Yellow Hat Daryl expecting him to act as the "warrior" in their expedition, but he responds that he's a total coward. He also ScreamsLikeALittleGirl when they're attacked by gargoyles inside the temple.
* NiceHat: The Daryl-with-the-hat's defining feature being the yellow cap he always wears.
* ShoutOut: [[Series/{{Newhart}} Miles' brother Daryl.....and his other brother Daryl]]

!!Jack
----
* AffectionateNickname: Out of Universe - Rick sometimes lists him as "Four Finger Discount" Jack ( his quotes ) in the tags.
* AnArmAndALeg: His entire right arm is gone, lost in the past in an unknown incident.
* MultipleChoicePast: How he lost his arm. According to him, it involved fighting a moose, a bear, and a crocodile at the same time. According to Elaine, it involved trying to manually fix the kitchen's garbage disposal. Which one of them is the LemonyNarrator here (or if they both are) is up to you.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: Mated to Lucretia's sister Elaine, and had to elope and avoid the rest of the pack for a year to avoid her mother. He continues to test everyone's patience with his criminal antics.
* StickyFingers: Is infamous among the pack for his tendency to employ his "four-finger discount".

!!Poncho
----
* MeaningfulName: His only article of clothing is indeed a poncho.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Although his signature poncho covers more than most clothing seen on animals in the comic, it still only partly covers his body.

!!Uncle Deadeye
----
* BadassCape: The long piece of cloth worn around his neck has this effect, especially while billowing in the wind dramatically.
* CassandraTruth: Soon after Jata's introduction, Deadeye non-verbally decides that he doesn't like him for some reason. He was more on-the-ball then anyone realized...
* CoolOldGuy: As it comes with [[NobleWolf the territory]], he is certainly no exception. Rodney's cub calls him "Grampa Deadeye" and [[spoiler:he catches a full-on punch from Jata (who is also quite ripped) without reacting at all, then proceeds to totally own the leopard [[BattleDiscretionShot off-panel]]]].
* EarAche: Almost all of his left ear appears to have been bitten off.
* HandicappedBadass: His constant vacant stare, and Gale referring to him as “the blind one with the blue shawl” suggests he’s visually impaired. Doesn’t stop him from grabbing Jata’s fist and dislocating his shoulder.
* TheStoic: He never speaks at all, and his expression is always the same stark, unwavering and onlooking stare, no matter what's happening around him or what the situation is. [[spoiler:He does, however, crack a smirk once Jata makes the mistake of throwing a punch in his general direction.]]
* TheVoiceless: He has yet to speak one line of dialogue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Zoo Animals]]
!!Bruce (Red kangaroo) & Roosevelt (Grey kangaroo)
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: At first. Until 2017, the comic never said anything definite about the nature of their relationship - they've been pictured in some pretty intimate situations, like [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/02/04/nachos-and-thou/ cuddling together under a blanket while watching American football]] or sharing a hot tub with just each other, and [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/08/01/dont-know-when-ill-be-back-again/ their conversation on the flight to Australia]] is incomplete but has obvious implications. [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/01/09/not-over-until-its-over/ Now,]] however, there's nothing ambiguous about it.
* KangaroosRepresentAustralia: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. They put on a very stereotypical Australian demeanor to entertain the zoo-goers, but in the presence of regulars like Peanut and Grape, they immediately drop the act (and seem to quite loathe it). They still exhibit some Australian habits every now and then.
--> '''Roosevelt''': '''''OH THANK GOODNESS''''' every single word feels like throwing up.
--> '''Bruce''': "Shrimp on the barbie?" We're '''''HERBIVORES'''''.
* ThoseTwoGuys: They're almost never seen apart from each other, which did nothing to avert the ambiguously gay aspect of their relationship before it was all but [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/01/09/not-over-until-its-over/ confirmed]].

!!Karishad (Fox)
----
* BornLucky: Apparently to borderline RealityWarper levels; at one point Rock Milton asks if he's some kind of GeniusDitz or if the universe itself just rearranges things so that everything he does works out. Evidence suggests the second one.
* CloudCuckoolander: Very much so.
* ImmuneToDrugs: In [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/06/19/darts-as-she-is-played/ this strip]] we see him stuck with ten tranquilizer darts, and suggestions of having been hit with even more from similar darts being held by two of those present, with no apparent effect on him. He even made a game out of it just to see who is the last predator (A.K.A the wolves) standing.
* LamePunReaction: Most of the time Karishad shows up, you can expect this reaction due to something he has been doing to follow-up the pun with.
* TooDumbToFool: He's dumb enough to not understand how a battery works (or electricity in-general), but when Falstaff attempts to get his trust, he immediately identifies what the raccoon is there to do. And when he goes to buy building supplies from Cori (who'd been stealing them), he pays by giving him one of his spare credit cards, which gets Cori arrested when he tries using it.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Everything indicates that he's skipped the zoo and is now living in Babylon Gardens, apparently with Tarot. It's mostly [[SubvertedTrope subverted]], though, because outside the usual invoked LamePunReaction, no one, including Tarot, seems to mind him moving in. Tarot even uses him as a ladder, occasionally.

!!Gambit & Tarmac (Otter)
----
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Forest Animals]]
!!Cory "Cilantro" (Skunk)
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Cory hits on Zach as part of a con, but how much of it was an act hasn't been expanded on and he hasn't shown any romantic interest in anyone of either sex since.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: To the point of irony. Despite committing actual (petty) crimes, he has only ever been arrested when he ''wasn't'' knowingly doing anything illegal; he takes the fall for Truck overspending on a credit card, and later for spraying someone in a perfume store because he didn't know the employees would spray him with perfume.
* ConMan: Or perhaps more accurately Con ''Skunk''; in their first appearance, [[ThoseTwoGuys he and Trinket]] trick Zach out of his tag and collar, leaving him sitting alone in the woods.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Cory is indeed a criminal, but he fails at it so much that it doesn't get held against him too often. Likewise, he may be a [[SmellySkunk skunk]] but he's so unintimidating regardless that most people don't care, and it does little to protect him from [[KillerRabbit Jessica]].
* MeaningfulName: "Cori" is likely short for "coriander", which is another word for "cilantro".
* MismatchedEyes: His left eye is yellow while his right one is green.
* SmellySkunk: Referenced, but [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]]. He takes offense to Zach inadvertantly calling him "stinky" [[note]]per the AltText it's because [[TruthInTelevision skunks aren't the only animals that have a defense musk]], yet they get all the flack for it[[/note]] and Jessica's rule of "no spraying anything" in her house is clearly directed at him, but otherwise his smell has never been commented on and any instances of him playing the trope straight are simply implied.
* StupidCrooks: Either due to his own incompetence or just a lack of prior knowledge to get away with anything. The best example being when he's given a credit card and decides to cash out on it, without understanding what it ''is'' or how to actually use it since he's a wild animal - to him it's just a piece of plastic that compels people to give things to whomever has it. While he thinks ahead enough to let someone else use it first to see if it really works, he makes the mistake of giving it to [[BigEater Truck]], who unknowingly overcharges it before giving it back to Cory and ensures that Cory [[RealityEnsues immediately gets arrested]] when he tries to use it himself.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Tends to be partners in crime with Trinket.

!!Trinket (Magpie)
----
* FeatherFingers: Although Trinket uses her beak to hold a ring and a paint brush, her wing does take on a distinctive hand shape as she ponders something.
* MeaningfulBackgroundEvent: With the revelation that [[spoiler:she's become Steward's accomplice]], it's conceivable that the distant bird in the sky when [[spoiler:Lois was transformed]] was actually her.
* TheBusCameBack: After roughly three and a half years since her last tagged appearance, Trinket pops up at the end of the "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel" arc to [[spoiler:swipe Steward's cursed gold coin before the K-9 unit can lock up in a safe place, potentially being the badger's accomplice]].
* ThoseTwoGuys: She usually hangs around Cory.

!!Falstaff and Truck (Raccoon)
----
* AffectionateNickname: Fals.
* AscendedExtra: Its implied that Fals was one of the unnamed raccoons that met up with Grape and her broom near the beginning of the comic.
* BigEater: Truck certainly qualifies, though not to the same extent as the likes of Other Daryl.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Understandably, since they're not used to human behavior. They think "Allergy" means that if Marion eats nuts, an owl will be urged to eat [[GenderBender her]], and that "Babysitter" means that someone sat on [[GenderBender her]] as a baby.
* {{Expy}}: Falstaff and Truck act like a raccoon version of Creator/AbbottAndCostello.
* FatAndSkinny: At least as fat as a feral raccoon can get.
* FatComicRelief: Truck.
%% * HeterosexualLifePartners
* MeaningfulName: Truck got his name/nickname from the fact that he came [[WhereTheHellIsSpringfield from Oregon to Babylon Gardens]] on a truck. On the grill that is.
* RascallyRaccoon: Falstaff qualifys as the brains and schemer of the pair. Averted with Truck who just faithfully follows him.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Convinced Zach is giving them one.
* ThoseTwoGuys: To the point that when Falstaff is seen at King and Bailey's wedding alone, some readers wondered where Truck was. Then FridgeBrilliance struck -- he was most likely raiding the reception foods while Fals acted as lookout.
* VisualPun: In this strip, Truck is shown [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2015/05/29/papers-please/ laundering money]] raccoon style.

!!Jessica (Opossum)
----
* DeadpanSnarker: Her expression is typically deadpan, and she's quite sassy most of the time.
* FlatEarthAtheist: Towards Zach and the Opener Movement.
* InterSpeciesRomance: With Zach eventually
* KillerRabbit: Opossums in general aren't very aggressive, but Jessica definitely can be when her nerves are gotten on too much.
* ShoutOut: Readers trying to ship Zach and Jessica have come to call the pairing [[Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit Jessica Rabbit]].

!!Gale (Cougar)
----
* ISurrenderSuckers: Happens when she got caught by Poncho. Luckily for Gale, she wooed him long enough for her son to cut her loose. Happens again later when [[spoiler:Miles threatens to toss her into the pit where she's keeping his family prisoner so they can tear her apart; she responds by deliberately rocking back and forth to throw off his balance while he holds her above his head, calling his bluff since he's too nice to actually ''do'' it. His attempt to stop her from knocking herself in enables her to turn the tables and get him into a chokehold]].
* MrsRobinson: {{Subverted}}, she was only flirting with Poncho to distract him long enough to allow Pueblo to free her from a trap. Even so, he seems to [[LikesOlderWomen have been left with a lasting impression]] since [[spoiler:he ''still'' ends up with hearts in his eyes while watching her attempt to kill Miles]].
* NoodleIncident: The particulars of what went down between her and Miles years back are still not entirely certain. In particular, we still don't really know why she was stitching her own face up during her last conversation with Miles before he went off to read his book and had Lucretia sit down next to him to say, "Miles, our life sucks." Their falling-out was clearly a bitter one, though.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Gale despises Miles at least partly because she feels he went back on a promise to not start a family of his own after he advised her to abstain as well due to the limited resources of their area. She wouldn't listen to his [[ICanExplain attempt to justify it]], and she won't settle for anything less than killing him in front of his family now that he's back. [[spoiler:That is, until during the ensuing battle he mentions in passing that his pack live among humanity now, which immediately gives HER the idea to move herself and her son there as well. Miles successfully buries the hatchet with her after that.]]
* ThisMeansWar: She thought Miles bringing his family back into the area was an attempt at reclaiming territory he'd effectively ceded to her when they moved to civilization, and mobilized her son Pueblo to help her deal with them.

!!Pueblo (Cougar)
Gale's son.
----
* ParentalSexualitySquick: Has an issue with Gale using her charms on a smitten Poncho.

!!Kix (Fox)
A former pet fox, who ran away from home after her owner bought a Fur Farm. She's the mother of Craig and Draig, raising them with assistance from Kitsune, but is unaware of her kits' past lives as demigods and just thinks they have an active imagination.
----
* DivineDate: Kitsune claims to be the "daddy" of her kits, though this is partly (if not entirely) to irk the former two demigods.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Humans]]
!!Earl and Jill Sandwich
Peanut and Grape's parents.
----
* TheFaceless: As with many other humans, their eyes are never seen. [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/12/25/the-reason-for-the-season/ Well, almost never.]]
* HappilyMarried: They're not shown together all that much, but when they are there's no sign of any significant conflicts or unhappiness between them.
* ShoutOut:
** One of these days Earl will tell Jill [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil why]] he snickers at her married name.
** Earl's name is based on that of the (alleged, anyway) inventor of the sandwich, [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Montagu,_4th_Earl_of_Sandwich The 4th Earl of Sandwich]].[[note]]He might have only popularized it - [[http://www.pbs.org/food/the-history-kitchen/history-sandwich/ the idea of the sandwich]] [[OlderThanTheyThink might have been around for centuries by then]][[/note]] [[invoked]]
* {{Troll}}: Earl has some subtle elements of this.

!!Jeeves
The butler for the Milton ferrets.
----
* TheJeeves: Classic Loyal human butler to the Milton Ferrets, always answering 'yessuh' to any task required of him - be it putting one of his employers in the corner so they can do their business or being told by Jata that 'you're a credit to your species'.

!!Stanley D'Angelo
Sabrina's father, a tenured archaeologist.
----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: Sabrina's Dad's occupation.
* TheUnseen: Sabrina's Dad's adventures keep him from Babylon Gardens months at a time.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Mr D'Angelo shows signs of this, although he knows he can depend on Sabrina to handle emergencies, as his voice message directs people to contact his cat in such instances.

!!PETA
* AnimalWrongsGroup: In a world where animals are fully capable of saying they enjoy being owned, PETA is even more despised then ever.

!!The Host
----
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep[=/=]NoNameGiven: Out of universe he's only listed in the tags as "Host" and twice in universe he begins a broadcast without mentioning his name.
* TheHost: of a magazine show with the initials ET.
* KentBrockmanNews: His specialty. So far he's brought us the hard hitting stories of a Royal Wedding, and the breakup of [[Franchise/AlvinAndTheChipmunks Allan and the Groundsquirrels]].
* StepfordSmiler: Bordering on exceedingly creepy as would be normal for an ''Entertainment Tonight'' host.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Transformed Humans]]
!!Joel Zechariah Robinson
All information regarding Joel is currently under "King Milton", in the Dogs folder.

!!Thomas Milton
A nephew of Henry Milton, he was not written into his uncle's will. He would spend his time trying to take the Milton fortune for himself. Eventually, this led to him being turned into a camel when he tried to pilfer the cursed gold in Pete's temple.
----
* AssholeVictim: A thief who tries to steal the ferrets' fortune eventually gets turned into a camel by Pete.
* BalefulPolymorph: Another victim of Pete's who gets turned into a camel.
* GentlemanThief: He looks the part with his mustache but he subverts it for two reasons. One he's kind of a jerk and, two, he's not a great thief.
* GilliganCut: Subverted hard. Thomas tells Celia that he will get the map and [[TemptingFate tempts fate]] by saying "nothing could possibly go wrong" verbatim. The very next panel, he has the map. While he does get caught, he gets a picture of it and sends it to himself via email. Once he gets out on bail, he flees the country with no issues. The comic's title "Huh" even lampshades it.
* HonorAmongThieves: Subverted. Celia backstabs him at an inopportune time and while it does get him caught, she screws up her chances at the treasure as Thomas manages to flee the country while on bail with a picture of the map. Fortunately for her, he's just incompetent enough to still need her help.
* InadequateInheritor: A relative of Mr. Milton, but, like Celia, he was given mostly worthless real estate. The ferrets were only given 40% of the inheritance so no one could sue under the premise that Mr. Milton had been irrational when he made his will. The catch was that he left a map to a third of his wealth in the ferrets' possession so as long as they could find it, they would get almost 3/4ths of his wealth.
* KarmaHoudini: Got off on bail for breaking into the Ferrets' home, but got a picture of their map before he fled the country to head to Arabia and then to North Africa to get Mr. Milton's treasure. Subverted when he runs into Pete.
* PutOnABus: Fell out of the story for 2 years before he came back wandering the desert for one comic strip. After that comic, he left again for 5 years before he became a regular again. That's better than Celia got though you do see him talking to her over the phone.
* ShadyRealEstateAgent: Used his real estate to try to start up a company, but turned out to be a terrible investor (partly due to the ferrets pulling millions out of stocks and tanking them). He had to foreclose several orphanages. [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2010/01/13/my-favorite-villain-shorthand-is-orphanage-landlord/ Unlike most landlord villains, he seems upset about this.]]

!!Herman Steward
Originally was the executor of Henry's estate, but was in league with Thomas to divert the estate's assets. But when Thomas's invasion of the temple went awry, he ended up in possession of a single cursed gold coin, and was turned into a badger.
----
* ArcVillain: [[spoiler:He's the instigator of Marion and Lois' animal transformations in "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel", as part of a larger gambit to bankrupt the Milton Ferrets via an influx of potential ECP members.]]
* BalefulPolymorph: Is turned into a badger when Thomas angrily spits the cursed coin into his hands.

!!Marion Ward
A senior in high school, he woke up one morning a week before graduation to find he had been turned into a squirrel.
----
* AmbiguousGender: As a human, he was male. When he texted his girlfriend with a picture of himself post-transformation, she thought the squirrel in the picture was female. This led him to a brief existential crisis, complete with [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2019/05/15/a-time-to-reflect/ a full comic of blushy awkwardness.]] Rick has stated Marion is still a guy, but that doesn't mean this won't become a RunningGag.
* BalefulPolymorph: He woke up one morning to discover he was turned into a squirrel.
* EarAche: Inflicts this on a formerly-human camel to get his cooperation. Those rodent-incisors ''would'' hurt.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Defied. Though others try to encourage him to go bottomless (that is, no pants), Marion insists he's used to wearing pants. So he is perhaps the ''only'' fully-dressed animal in the comic so far.
** BarefootCartoonAnimal: He doesn't wear shoes, however.
* InelegantBlubbering: Devolves into ugly-crying when no one believes that he used to be a human, not even his girlfriend, despite him even pulling SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Admits to Lois that one of the main reason he's still hung up over being a squirrel, even after a six-month TimeSkip at the end of the "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel" arc, is that he feels inadequate for her, though she quickly states that she's not bothered by it at all.
* InterspeciesRomance: Has not expressed interest in breaking up with his girlfriend, Lois, aside from one quip while depressed about abandoning human life entirely to start a squirrel dynasty.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Likes energy drinks. [[RealityEnsues This bites him in the]] [[JustForPun tail]] [[RealityEnsues as a squirrel]] when he cracks one open while trying to research a cause for his transformation.
-->'''Marion:''' Okay, I have Yellow Pages, Google, and my secret weapon--''CAFFEINE!'' LET'S SOLVE THIS SQUIRREL THING!\\
(''three hours later, his mother walks in to find a squirrel curled in a fetal position on the computer desk'')\\
'''Marion:''' I have nothing and my heart's about to explooooode...
* NoodleIncident: It is not yet known how Marion got turned into a squirrel while sleeping in his own bed at home, save that [[spoiler:it involved Steward, and potentially Trinket as well]].
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Deconstructed. When Marion's girlfriend understandably doesn't belive the squirrel girl (no pun intended) is Marion, she asks him to say something only they would know. He tells an embarassing story... And she still doesn't belive him, since Marion could've just as well told the story to a random squirrel.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: As a squirrel, he easily fits into the hood of his girlfriend Lois' hoodie.
* TragicKeepsake: He wears a bracelet as a necklace. It has small blocks with the initials of himself and his girlfriend, Lois.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: His transformation into a squirrel seems to have come with an instinctual fear of barking dogs. He finds himself up in a tree every time, looking utterly terrified.

!!Lois
Marion Ward's girlfriend. Went looking for him after he didn't show up for school after being turned into a squirrel. She's turned into a male bobcat while Marion was talking with Thomas at the Zoo.
----
* BalefulPolymorph: Is transformed roughly midway through Marion's investigation concerning his own transformation, though the "Baleful" element is downplayed due to Marion panicking enough for the both of them.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: In the finale of the "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel" arc, she's wearing full winter attire aside from bare paws.
* DeadpanSnarker: Shows shades of this.
** CatsAreSnarkers
* FreakyIsCool: Unlike Marion, who's quite intimidated by Kitsune's more god-like form when they come to him for advice, she's fascinated by it.
* GenderBender: Is "of the masculine persuasion" as a bobcat. Though considering everything else, Lois is taking it in stride.
* InterspeciesRomance: Despite what she and Marion go through, including Lois' own transformation, they still love each other.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Averted; she mentions that no longer having to worry about "that time of the month" is a possible advantage of her transformation, though it causes the now-female-bodied Marion to add yet another problem to his list.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: Though most characters would be huge in comparison to squirrel-sized Marion.

!!Larry "Todd" Kravitz
A former, presumably teenage human, he's recently been transformed into a red panda. He winds up moving into the ECP's boarding house where he is introduced to the other residents.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: His mother shows up at the boarding house after being asked to wait in the car just to drop off some snacks shaped like red panda faces.
* BalefulPolymorph: Describes being turned into an animal as "throwing off my game."
* CasanovaWannabe: He's so bad at it, and lacks the self-awareness to acknowledge it, that he borders on parodying the trope. Lois flat-out asks if his goal is actually to get everyone to hate him by acting the way he does.
* CoolShades: Keeps a pair on him and is often seen wearing them.
* SelfAppliedNickname: Insists his name is Todd, yet his mother's insistence proves it's only a nickname.

[[folder:Demigods]]
!!Pete/Craig
One of the "Cosmic Nerds". As one of the denizens of Heaven, he takes the form of a griffin. He also had a human form based on a character from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''. After losing the CosmicChessGame, he was reincarnated as a fox kit.
----
* JerkassGods: Pete may be godlike. Who knows other than [[WordOfGod Rick]]? But he's [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/23/so-cool/ "sort of a jerk"]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: His first appearance portrays him in a pretty decent light, but it doesn't last. Again, he's sort of a jerk. Towards the end of the "King and I" story arc, he appears to throw [[CosmicPlaything King]] a bone, figuratively speaking, [[spoiler:by giving him the option to have his life as a human back immediately '''after''' King has become relatively comfortable as a dog, and is about to marry Bailey.]] [[KickTheDog Ouch]].
* RiddleForTheAges: An actual riddle in-universe... granted, it's a riddle created by Pete himself: What is Pete's actual name and how is it pronounced and spelled? While raiding the temple, they find this riddle set-up like the one from ''Film/IndianaJonesAndTheLastCrusade''. [[TheUnreveal Tarot simply]] [[DungeonBypass bypasses it by flying everyone over the pit.]]
* SiblingRivalry: [[spoiler: It was eventually revealed at the epilogue to the Heaven's Not Enough, Part 3 arc that he and the Spirit Dragon are siblings]].
* TheUnpronounceable: "Pete" is supposedly just a nickname given to him by Peanut, who couldn't pronounce his real name when he told it to him. This doesn't explain why everyone ''else'' calls him Pete, even other astral beings who've known him for who-knows-how-long.
* WouldHitAGirl: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/04/27/would-never-hit-a-girls/ Here.]] It's his [[InterspeciesRomance ex(es)]].
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: Finding himself no longer able to control King/Joel and his friends at the end of Heaven's Not Enough, Part 3, he freaks out greatly, to the point of grabbing the fate King had on him[[note]]It allowed King to assume his dog identity while he was wearing it[[/note]] and taunting him about it, only to collapse in grief due to it only causing King to taunt him back.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can switch between a god-like quadruped form and an anthro form resembling a nerd at will. He also appeared as an elderly Welshman while posing as King's owner.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Or, in Pete's case, blue feathers. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in that he's an omniscient astral gryphon, so he can look pretty much however he wants.

!!Spirit Dragon/Draig
One of the "Cosmic Nerds", and Pete's sister. As one of the denizens of Heaven, she takes the form of a dragon. After losing the CosmicChessGame, she was reincarnated as a fox kit.
----
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Much like Kitsune, she's usually just referred to as "Dragon", even by Pete in a casual conversation. No word as of yet on if this is her real name.
* InterspeciesRomance: It's heavily implied that she has a thing for Peanut, much to Pete's and Kitsune's enjoyment, [[spoiler:and Tarot's annoyance.]] Later, she tries to invoke it fully [[spoiler:by having Peanut choose between her and Tarot.]] She seems to have gotten over it now, at least for the time being.
* HiddenDepths:
** Initially, she was portrayed as the most sensible one of the trio, or at least the most friendly. The Trial in Heaven arc hint towards her towards having a child-like demeaner, [[spoiler: and the Heaven's Not Enough arcs reveal she's as whiny as a small child when she doesn't get her way, meaning she's not entirely too pleasant to be with. It was this fact that caused Tarot to question her alliegance to the Spirit Dragon.]]
** She's also willing to cheat by messing with time travel, something that was stated to be against the rules, apparently for a reason[[note]]she was apparently unable to bring her second avatar back on her own[[/note]].
** One stripped portrayed her as attempting to "[[MinMaxing Min-Max]]" a "infinite range detection" spell so that it deals damage (something a {{Munchkin}} would do), only to be denied by the Great Kitsune who demonstrates through a (thankfully non-canon) visual what would happen if she got her way: Let's just say [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt the results wouldn't be pretty for the planet itself]].
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: Although able to appear separately, she normally shows up in the mortal realm with help [[spoiler:from Tarot]].
* SiblingRivalry: [[spoiler: It was eventually revealed at the epilogue to the Heaven's Not Enough, Part 3 arc that she and Pete are siblings]].
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can switch between a god-like Chinese dragon form and an anthro form resembling a nerd at will.

!!Great Kitsune
One of the "Cosmic Nerds". As one of the denizens of Heaven, he takes the form of a nine-tailed kitsune. He was the game master of the CosmicChessGame, and now uses a fox form on Earth to oversee Craig and Draig as their adoptive father.
----
* CheshireCatGrin: He puts on this grin several times to portray his trickster side.
* TheChessmaster: The ''Universes & Unrealities'' game was all just a concealed ploy [[spoiler:to get Pete and Dragon to acquire some humility.]] They got so engrossed [[spoiler:in winning the game]] that they fell for it completely in the end.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Everyone just calls him "Kitsune"; whether this is his actual name or not hasn't been clarified.
* TheGadfly: If his interactions with Pete and Lester in their respective roleplaying games are any indication, he likes to screw with uppity and/or snobbish players and put them in their place. Pete, being a fellow demigod, deals with this fairly competently most of the time... Lester doesn't last even 30 minutes in a basic game of D&D.
* GameMaster: To Dragon and Pete's game that they are playing.
* {{Kitsune}}
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Learning that [[spoiler:demons have infiltrated the mortal world on his watch]] is the first time in the entire comic where he completely loses his cool and acts serious without a shred of his usual persona.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His god-like form features some very red, menacing-looking eyes. That said, it's still Kitsune so he's still as friendly as in his "nerd" form.
* StealthMentor: [[spoiler: To Pete and Spirit Dragon, and somewhat to King/Joel as well.]] In the case of the former, he set up the events related to their game in order to teach them just how much they were influencing the lives of those involved, in hopes of convincing them to be more humble. In the case of the latter, all of drastic changes in [[spoiler:King's/Joel's life]] culminate in a SecretTestOfCharacter that allows [[spoiler:King]] to accept [[spoiler:which of his lives really brought more fulfillment to him.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can switch between a god-like quadruped form and an anthro form resembling a nerd at will.

!!Cerberus
The current GrimReaper. Ex-girlfriend(s?) of Pete.
----
* AffectionateNickname: In universe Ex-boyfriend Pete calls her Cerb. Out of universe the readers often call her Cerbs.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She might have dated Pete for a million (and one) years, but by now she's well aware of how much of a jerk he is and doesn't approve of his actions. There's also her job change to Grim Reaper, which she claims to have taken because it allowed her to work with children.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: The left head clues Tarot in about what's happening in "Heckraiser". Right and center aren't happy with her.
-->'''Left Cerberus:''' What? We were all looking for an excuse to talk shop.
* ExpressiveEars: Her third head in [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/07/07/cause-i-know-i-dont-belong/ this strip]].
* TheGrimReaper: She mostly serves in the [[DontFearTheReaper benign guide to the afterlife]] version, with the reason that [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/03/18/hereafter-thereafter/ she never got to work with children]] given her previous job as one of heaven's guards.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Each of Cerberus's three heads has its own distinct personality. The middle head seems to exhibit a much more serious attitude than the other two. The left head tends to be a lot more care-free than the other two.
* PetTheDog: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2013/03/18/hereafter-thereafter/ Almost literally]], see DarkIsNotEvil.
* InterspeciesRomance: Formerly in one with Pete, a griffon.

!!Bahamut
The ruler of Heaven.
----
* TheComicallySerious: He's ''always'' completely serious, which means that despite being TheOmniscient he still manages to be GenreBlind about some things.
* GodsHandsAreTied: Celestial beings are specifically forbidden from directly interfering with mortal affairs, which includes him.
* TheOmniscient: To an even greater degree than other demigods.
* OneWayVisor: Wears one in his "default" dragon form.
* SpaceWhale: How he appears before King.
* YourSizeMayVary: Whether it's because of ArtShift or him taking a different form entirely, he can change his size at will, appearing the same size as the other Demigods during Pete's trial but later appearing so large he can hold Kitsune in his hand.

!!Eudoant
The caretaker of ''The Bad Place'', which is essentially hell.
----
* AffablyEvil: For someone whose job it is to make people's lives miserable, he is surprisingly nice. He has something of a soft spot for Keene in particular.
* DeadpanSnarker: Occassionally gets a snarky line in but does it with the same flat expression he always has.
* TheDevil: While the specifics of ''The Bad Place'' and its structure/hierarchy haven't been expanded on as of yet, Eudoant seems to call the shots there before anyone else, and explicitly introduces himself to Keene as ''a'' devil at the very least.
* PunnyName: BetterTheDevilYouKnow than the devil ''Eudoant''.
* UnusualEars: Being a demon removed from any sort of earthly creature in design, he as two sets of ears.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Heaven]]
!!Breel (Pine marten)
A pine marten that originally lived on Earth in the first half of the 1800s. He took a liking to Keene when he prematurely died. After trauma suffered in the Temple Crashers 2 mega-arc, he decided to incarnate so he could live with Keene on Earth.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: He flirted with Keene upon their first meeting but it wasn't commented on one way or another, so initially he was this trope. [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/03/19/love-will-set-you-free/ Not anymore]], though.
* BackFromTheDead: Is gifted to become mortal again and stay with Keene as a reward for his service assisting heaven keep the world safe.
* ClosetKey: It seems he was one for Keene.
* BreakTheCutie: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/12/15/double-hockey/ Here.]]
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Has been residing in heaven for the past century and a half, so when he suddenly returns to the land of the living he's in shock and awe of his own heartbeat and need to breath.
* LethalChef: His attempts at recreating the food he had in Heaven often lead to him and Keene ordering out, at one point he got to ordering before cooking. Though by "My Life as a Teenage Squirrel" he seems to have gotten the hang of baking.
* NiceGuy: Easily one of the sweetest characters in the comic.
* NoodleIncident: It has been implied that Breel died the first time when he was hit by a train.
* OfficialCouple: With Keene.
* Really700YearsOld: Not quite that old, but when he passed on from Earth the Transcontinental Railroad was still being built (or had been built and he had not heard of it's completion yet), meaning he likely died sometime between 1863 and 1869. This makes Breel around 150 years old (unless you don't count years spent in the afterlife).
* SwissArmyTears: Inverted. Apparently, his tears opened [[FromBadToWorse a portal to hell]]. Though him standing in a pool of {{Mana}} when it happened might have helped.

!!Spring and Summer (Huskies)
A pair of huskies in Heaven. They take a liking to Fox when he's there temporarily with King while the latter sought an audience with Bahamut regarding his fate.
----
* LoveTranscendsSpacetime: After Fox forgets about them, they figure out a way to remind him by sending a message back to Earth through Keene. Later, after they provide help during Temple Crashers 2, they promise Fox they'll see each other again real soon...and then clarify that they'll be visiting him, rather than him dying.
** Later on, in "Heavendropper", he refers to them as his "girlfriends".
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Spring realized she had been fraternizing with mortal Fox a bit too much, as it led to him desiring not to leave Heaven in the Heckraiser/Heavendropper arcs.

!!Winter (Husky)
Winter is the future of Fox, after having lived a long life. He is the real lover of Spring and Summer; they got together with mortal Fox during King's visit just to have some fun with him.
----
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Winter has several large scars, suggesting Fox has some serious battles ahead, whether with the K-9's or otherwise.
* TemporalParadox: Apparently, since Heaven is timeless, ''everyone who ever lived'' is already there. They only make sure mortals who are brought there don’t meet their Heavenly selves; what Spring referred to as a "causality violation". They made an exception in Fox's case so he could talk some sense into himself.

!!Keene's Mother (Ferret)
The unnamed birth mother of Keene. Briefly reunites with her son when he prematurely dies in the Four Animals You Meet In Heaven arc.
----
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Played with. Keene clearly loves and misses her dearly going by his reaction to meeting her again in Heaven, but he also points out she was a store ferret and couldn't do things like cook for her children due to lack of knowledge.

!!Henry Milton (Formerly Human, currently Ferret)
The deceased multi-billionaire that owned the Milton Ferrets, and founder of Babylon Gardens, who strived to equalize relationships between humans and animals. His human form is unknown, as when finally making an appearance during Keene's premature death, he's seen as a ferret wearing spectacles.
----
* AttractiveBentSpecies: Flirts with Keene's Mother when they meet, who responds with a wink.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Willingly chose his heavenly form; in his own words, "Why '''wouldn't''' [he] be a ferret?"

!!Rufus (Border collie)
A dog who lived with Earl's brother, Reuben, on a farm, and pre-dated Reuben as resident of said farm. He died of old age before the Temple Crashers 2 mega-arc, and is now one of the denizens of Heaven.
----
* CountryCousin: To Peanut and Grape, albeit not by blood.
* InterspeciesRomance: WordOfGod says that he ''may'' have a thing for cats, which is all but confirmed since he's shown to be dating a sabertooth tiger in Heaven.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: [[spoiler:Thanks to the way heaven works, he returns temporarily to give one to Maxwell before he passes on for good.]]
* NoLongerWithUs: This is how him and Grape's first conversation went, in regards to his first owner. At first it was unintentional, then he did it deliberately, and now Grape seems to assume he's toying with her... when he has [[FailedASpotCheck a glowing halo on his head]].
* PutOnABus: For the longest time his only appearances were during the Sandwichs' trip to his farm.
** TheBusCameBack: He finally shows up again in the second Temple Crashers arc.
** BusCrash: He's since died from old age and makes his reappearance as a denizen of Heaven who's visiting Earth. Though not without a lot of backstory.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: His letters to Maxwell, though it looks like he's going to subvert this trope by giving Maxwell a second second chance.]]

!!Satau
----
* AnimalJingoism: Back in his time-period, he has a rival (Ptah) who is (surprise, surprise) a cat. They dueled over who would get to be Dragon's avatar and get power from her. He also claims all cats are treacherous (he claims [[HandWave Grape clearly has the spirit of a dog]]) and keeps Ptah's fortifications surrounded as a precaution.
* ChickMagnet: The few female characters he had met, other than Tarot and Sabrina, that is, managed to develop a crush on him simply because of his manly build. This includes Grape (much to Max's chagrin) and Natalie.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Played with in that while he is indeed marveled by developments in human technology, he just brushes them off as being similar to magic (to the point where he confused it for such until Peanut pointed out to him that they run on electricity). In fact, he didn't fall to the common reaction of time travelers when it comes to television[[note]]to get confused as to why there's people within such a small box[[/note]] and instead, instantly knew what it was: a device meant for telling stories.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With Mungo. [[spoiler: It's strongly hinted this is not a coincidence. Mungo's family is all over North Africa, which is where Satau's home was located around in 5500 B.C]]
* TimeTravel: Manages to accidentally accomplish this (in spite of it being against the rules of the game) by convincing the Spirit Dragon to send him into the future ''briefly'' to get a glimpse at where Pete's temple could be, only to realize too late that time isn't "cyclical".
* WillingChanneler: Was the Spirit Dragon's second avatar.

!!Ptah
----
* AnimalJingoism: He's rivals with Satau and he expresses hesitance to host guests at Satau's suggestion.
* CatStereotype: Grey with dark stripes. He's not particularly dark, but he's still a jerk.
* CatsAreMagic: Thanks to Dragon, he has a magic hat that allows him to do a variety of things.
* CatsAreMean: The fact that he's a stuck-up jerk gives Grape zero interest in him.
* CatsAreSuperior: Him in particular in his opinion. He considers himself the pinnacle of cat-kind.
* {{Narcissist}}: Oh yes.
** TheFightingNarcissist: He can go toe-to-toe with Satau.
* YourSizeMayVary: Thanks to the hat he wears (courtesy of Dragon), he can change how his body is built and he can make himself giant if he needs or wants to. He is normally the same size as anyone else.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Characters]]
!!Jata (Leopard)
----
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Unlike pretty much all other animals that walk on two feet, other than nothing on his footpaws he wears human-style clothing.
* BattleStrip: He can obliterate any clothing on his torso just by flexing, a la [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Armstrong]], and does so whenever he believes a fight is necessary (or occasionally just to show off).
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Jata and Sabrina.
* PrinceCharmless: While physically very attractive and very dedicated to his country's affairs, Jata is naive, stubborn, conceited, and quite aggressive when he's at his worst. His shortcomings culminate in him very nearly ''forcing'' Sabrina to marry him in spite of the countless egregious hints that she's not interested anymore, and he comes close to seriously hurting Fido and many of the wolves when they object.
* ShirtlessScene: In addition to his tendency to BattleStrip, sometimes he just doesn't even bother wearing a shirt to begin with.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Other than his father's banishment of Sabrina and her 'Dad' and closing of his country's borders, Jata appears to want to rule in his Father's pawsteps.

!!what chicken

* AllLowercaseLetters: His name is specifically un-capitalized.

!!'Breel'
A demon that attaches himself to Keene during his time in ''The Bad Place'' and eager to help him. Takes the form of a small dinosaur.
----
* DealWithTheDevil: Instigates one with Keene in order to get out of the bad place.
** The beginning of the "Heckraiser" arc has him offer to make a different one with [[spoiler:Steward]].
* NoNameGiven: 'Breel' is what he briefly calls himself. The tags on the site just list him as ''Demon''.
* SoLongSuckers: Immediately hightails it when the temple start collapsing.
* SuperSpit: His saliva can melt glass, much to Keene's revulsion.

!! The Forgotten
''Something'' that seemingly exist on the border between earth and The Bad Place.
----
* BlackSpeech: Literally in that its text bubbles are black with red text.
* CurbStompBattle: It takes all of ''three seconds'' for it to completely waste the combined adventuring parties. It says a lot that Res needs to power himself up with a god's mana pool just to, at best, keep it back long enough for the portal to be closed.
* EldritchAbomination: Tarot just referred to it as an ''Abstract Concept With Ultimate Power'' and it looks like [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2018/01/22/lest-you-forget/ This]].
* KnightOfCerebus: Even though other supernatural beings like Pete were comical in a villainous way. This thing? It is presented with ''dead seriousness'', and it looks the part too. What else can you expect from something that literally enforces the terror of nothingness?
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: At least the gods and demons look vaguely animal-like...

!!Maxwell
----
* {{Adorkable}}
* CatsHaveNineLives: Implied.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Towards Grape.
* InsecureLoveInterest

* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Sabrina and Jata.
It's possible she was bluffing, but Fido took the threat ''very'' seriously.
* SecretKeeper: Her current relationship with Fido, her previous relationship with Jata and the connection between King and Joel Robinson. [[spoiler: None of them are secrets anymore.]]

!!Res
----
* {{Adorkable}}: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/12/17/oh-no-not-again/ Here]].
* CanadaEh

!!Marvin
----
* ThoseTwoGuys: Him and Tiger.

----
* AffectionateNickname: From Sasha: Kingy.
* AttractiveBentSpecies:
King, who had been [[InvoluntaryTransformation involuntarily changed]] from a human known as Joel to a Welsh Corgi, is said by Fox, [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/14/hot-and-bothered/ to have the potential to "be a real ladykiller"]]. Later he finds himself attracted to Fox's cousin Bailey, K-9 Corps, and needs to remind himself "Don't go native!"
-->'''King:''' '''''Yes, always.'''''

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: It's "Bye-no", not "Beano".

-->'''King''': "Aren't you going to go home?"\\

----
* AndTheRest: "Joey's Creepy Friends".
* PaperThinDisguise:

* CloudCuckoolander: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2010/06/07/stale-jokes-for-stale-mallows/ Oh, yes.]]
* NonindicativeName: He's a dog.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Tiger and Marvin.

!!Daisy (Newfoundland)
----
* TheConfidant: To [[spoiler:Sasha]].

* RealMenWearPink:

!!Griswald
* LivingProp: He, Devo, and Sten were created just so the Good Ol' Dogs club would have some
members who weren't in the main or recurring cast.

!!Sten (Chihuahua)
* LivingProp: Like Devo and Griswald, he really only exists to illustrate that there are dogs in the Good Ol' Dogs club other than some of the main characters. And to weird out Sasha.
* PottyFailure: Implied [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2016/09/22/crossfire/ here.]]
* TooMuchInformation: "I have a urinary cyst."

!!Boris (Russian Wolfhound)
* DumbMuscle: Acts as hired muscle originally for the GODC, later for Duchess.

!!Yeltsin (Bull Terrier/originally Russian Wolfhound)
* FunetikAksent: A Brooklyn one.

* CheerfulChild: Olive especially.
----

Bino KangarooCourt'ed his tail out
of the Good Ol' Dogs Club, and it led to a suspension from the K-9 unit--not because he was with Sabrina, which Ralph (at least professionally) [[NotThatTheresAnythingWrongWithThat didn't have issue with]], but [[CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot because of his antics in breaking up her arranged marriage with Jata]].
Club)
* HeadPet: Spo.

* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Sometimes wears a Bombardier's jacket.
* InnocentBystander: Back when Fox and Maxwell were both kidnapped.
* NonindicativeName: He's a Siberian husky.

* SuperStrength: Inexplicably so.

* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: As it turns out, he's [[https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2020/03/11/nothing-awkward-about-this/ just as bad as his girlfriend]] about this.

!!Terrance (English Springer Spaniel)
* TheComicallySerious: ''[[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/10/12/not-another-new-character/ ENHANCE!]]''

!!Keene
The de facto leader of
[[Characters/HousepetsOtherAnimals Other Animals]] (including the Milton ferrets Ferrets; the wolf pack; alternate civilized animals like Spo and Itsuki; zoo animals like Bruce and Roosevelt; wild animals like Jessica, the raccoons, and the one with by far the most screen time. Also the only one who seems to care about their "dad's" dreams of animal-human equality, founding the "Equal Chance Program".
----
* ClosetKey: Breel. ThePowerOfLove in the form of a deep kiss is what breaks Breel's chains in Pandemonium,
cougars; and Keene likes it enough he wants to keep making out right there... much to his demon pal's irritation, since the little guy just wants to escape to Earth.

* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Pit, usually.

----
* BreakingOutTheBoss: Inadvertently releases Pete.

The only
other time he comes up is when others mention him, and he's off-screen.

* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Miles.

* CloudCuckoolander: Very much so.

The best example being when he's given a credit card and decides to cash out on it, without understanding what it ''is'' or how to actually use it since he's a wild
miscellaneous animal - to him it's just a piece of plastic that compels people to give things to whomever has it.

----
* AffectionateNickname: Fals.
* {{Expy}}: Falstaff and Truck act
characters like a raccoon version of Creator/AbbottAndCostello.
* FatAndSkinny: At least as fat as a feral raccoon can get.
* FatComicRelief: Truck.

* InterSpeciesRomance: With Zach eventually

* NoodleIncident: The particulars of
what went down between her and Miles years back chicken)
* [[Characters/HousepetsHumans Humans]] (These
are still not entirely certain.

----
* TheFaceless: As with many other
both current humans, their eyes are never seen. [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2014/12/25/the-reason-for-the-season/ Well, almost never.]]
* HappilyMarried: They're not shown together all that much, but when they are there's no sign of any significant conflicts or unhappiness between them.
* ShoutOut:

----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: Sabrina's Dad's occupation.

!!The Host
----
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep[=/=]NoNameGiven: Out of universe he's only listed in the tags as "Host"
and twice in universe he begins a broadcast without mentioning his name.

Eventually, this led to him being
former humans who were turned into a camel when he tried to pilfer the cursed gold in Pete's temple.
----
* AssholeVictim: A thief who tries to steal the ferrets' fortune eventually gets turned into a camel by Pete.

It has small blocks
animals with the initials exception of himself and his girlfriend, Lois.
King)
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: His transformation into a squirrel seems to have come with an instinctual fear [[Characters/HousepetsDenizensOfHeaven Denizens of barking dogs. He finds himself up in a tree every time, looking utterly terrified.

!!Lois
Marion Ward's girlfriend. Went looking for him after he didn't show up for school after being turned into a squirrel. She's turned into a male bobcat while Marion was talking with Thomas at
Heaven]] (including the Zoo.
----
* BalefulPolymorph: Is transformed roughly midway through Marion's investigation concerning his own transformation, though the "Baleful" element is downplayed due to Marion panicking enough for the both of them.

* WouldHitAGirl: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/04/27/would-never-hit-a-girls/ Here.]] It's his [[InterspeciesRomance ex(es)]].

* HiddenDepths:

* {{Kitsune}}

* YourSizeMayVary: Whether it's because of ArtShift or him taking a different form entirely, he can change his size at will, appearing the same size as the
Cosmic Nerds, other Demigods during Pete's trial but later appearing so large he can hold Kitsune in his hand.

* BreakTheCutie: [[http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/2017/12/15/double-hockey/ Here.]]
* OfficialCouple: With Keene.

They take a liking to Fox when he's there temporarily with King while the latter sought an audience with
like Bahamut regarding his fate.
----
* LoveTranscendsSpacetime: After Fox forgets about them, they figure out a way to remind him by sending a message back to Earth through Keene. Later, after they provide help during Temple Crashers 2, they promise Fox they'll see each other again real soon...
and then clarify that they'll be visiting him, rather than him dying.

He is the real lover of Spring
Cerberus, various Angels including Breel, and Summer; they got together with mortal Fox during King's visit just to have some fun with him.
----
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Winter has several large scars, suggesting Fox has some serious battles ahead, whether with the K-9's or otherwise.

** BusCrash: He's since died
Demons from old age and makes his reappearance as a denizen of Heaven who's visiting Earth. Though not without a lot of backstory.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler: His letters to Maxwell, though it looks like he's going to subvert this trope by giving Maxwell a second second chance.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Past Characters]]
!!Satau
----
* AnimalJingoism: Back in his time-period, he has a rival (Ptah) who is (surprise, surprise) a cat.

* {{Narcissist}}: Oh yes.

* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Jata and Sabrina.

----
* AllLowercaseLetters: His name is specifically un-capitalized.
* FeatherFingers: So far by pointing, holding a water gun, and opening a window with them.
* NobodyCallsMeChicken: Doing so is what usually causes him to appear. That, or some other chicken-related expression.
%% * RunningGag
%% * VisualPun

!!'Breel'
A demon that attaches himself to Keene during his time in ''The Bad Place'' and eager to help him. Takes the form of a small dinosaur.
----
* DealWithTheDevil: Instigates one with Keene in order to get out of the
"the bad place.
