* WalkingSpoiler: The reveal of his identity and by extension his [[FreudianExcuse backstory]] makes him this. It's [[spoiler:Scott Shelby]].
* WouldHurtAChild: He has killed almost a dozen children and has no intention of stopping any time soon.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Is the way he is all because [[spoiler:his own father was a complete bastard who regularly abused him and his brother both physically and verbally and ultimately convinced him he was worthless, and then to top it all off was forced to watch his own brother drown and said dad refused to help him. And his mom, the nice parent, apparently contracted Alzheimer's and all but lost her mind so she couldn't take care of him anymore. And now he drowns children and puts their fathers through sadistic tests all in the deluded hope that they can save them and that the kids can have fathers that are worthwhile and will always be there for them, something he never had.]]

* BadassGrandpa: For a man his age, Baker shows a great deal of strength and resilience; not only is he able to knock out Madison (and another caller) with one swing of a baseball bat, but should Madison actually escape the operating table, the resulting fight shows that he's able to take quite a bit of punishment- and dish it out as well.
* TheCombatPragmatist: He throws everything within reach at Madison if she ends up fighting with him.
* DrFeelGood: His primary source of income is selling prescription medicine; Madison gets into his house by pretending to be a customer.
* DirtyOldMan: He asks Madison if she's for sale if the player asks him about the price of his medicine.
* EvilOldFolks: He is one of the oldest characters in the game and quite evil.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He puts on a good front but is rotten to the core.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:If Madison ends up fighting Baker, she finishes him off by stabbing him in the chest with the electric drill he was about to use on her at the start of her "operation."]]
* ILoveTheDead: Hinted at by the way he feels up Madison's corpse, should he succeed in killing her.
* KarmaHoudini: If you die during the fight scene with him. However, he can still be considered a Karma Houdini if you simply avoid the fight scene with him by finding what you need and getting out quickly.
* MadDoctor: Addicted to performing surgical operations; unfortunately, since he's been struck from the medical register and no longer permitted to practise officially, he's resorted to kidnapping people and dissecting them with power tools.
* ObviouslyEvil: Only an idiot would accept a drink from someone as creepy as Adrian Baker.
* SkippableBoss: Madison only has to fight him if a) she accepts his drink, or b) if she gets caught while wandering around his house.
* SlippingAMickey: When Madison enters his house, Baker offers her a drink to "take the edge off the pills." [[TooDumbToLive Actually drinking it]] sends her straight to the operating table.
* SmugSnake: He has a cool, creepy demeanor to suit a serial killer.
* ThisIsADrill: He tries to kill Madison with a drill.

* CurbStompBattle: For most of the second fight with Jack, Jayden is losing very badly. In fact [[spoiler:he only wins by accident.]]
* CopKiller: If he kills Jayden at any point during the 2 fight scenes, and claims that the skull in the acid bath belonged to a cop who was "asking too many questions."
* {{Expy}}: Probably a shout-out to the comic book ''ComicBook/TheCrow''. He's similar in appearance and identical in name to a minor thug the Crow kills in short order.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Unlike a lot of the characters in this game, Jack mainly prefers to use his fists in close combat rather than the usual barrage of improvised weaponry. [[TheBrute This is because he's so strong he doesn't]] ''[[TheBrute need]]'' [[TheBrute to use anything other than his fists to beat down a trained FBI agent.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Should the second fight continue all the way to the end, Mad Jack is accidentally flattened by his own bulldozer.]]
* JustHitHim: While he does go after him with a pole and attempt to step on his head, Mad Jack does seem to enjoy throwing Jayden around in typical GiantMook fashion, especially in their second fight.
* KarmaHoudini: If you die during the fight scene with him, but the fact that Norman's body apparently got discovered in the end (for otherwise he would be considered missing not deceased) implies he may have been eventually found out (though this isn't confirmed, and it's possible Mad Jack would've simply left Jayden's body to be discovered drawing suspicion away from himself)
* LargeHam: Almost all of his lines are overacted.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: "Mad" isn't just for show.
* NonchalantDodge: During their second battle, Jayden flings a metal box at Jack. In spite of being less than three feet away, Jack dodges it easily.
* NoSell: Just about all of Jayden's attacks are given this kind of treatment during the second battle- even if the player completes the button sequences without fail. However, the most obvious example occurs in the latter stages of the fight, when a particularly desperate Jayden throws another bit of scrap metal at close range. Jack lets it bounce off his chest.
* PunchPunchPunchUhOh: At one point, Jayden attempts to beat Jack down with the front fender of a car; not only does Jack manage to soak up every single hit without even staggering, but he finishes off by snatching the fender out of the air in mid-swing and kicking Jayden in the stomach hard enough to send him tumbling for a few feet.
** A classic version happens a little while later when Jayden attacks Jack with his bare hands; he lands at least two punches- both of which seem to hurt ''him'' more than Jack- and on the third, Jack grabs his arms and headbutts him.
* ScaryBlackMan: He is the only black antagonist in the game and he looks like he could rip Jayden apart.
* SkippableBoss: His second battle, which only happens if Jayden fails to get to a dose of triptocaine in time.
* SmugSnake: He taunts Jayden when he begins to go through a withdrawal symptom.
* TattooedCrook: A known crook and he has visible tattoos.
* TheresNoKillLikeOverkill: He does try to [[spoiler:kill Jayden with a car crusher]] after all!

* AxCrazy: At first looks like a calm and quiet lonely man. Once he finds out Madison is hidden in his house he takes his bowie knife and reveals the crazy murderous monster he is.
* ChainsawGood: [[spoiler:How Madison kills him if she actually fights him head-on.]]
* EvilGloating: He likes doing this a lot while he chases Madison.
* EvilLaugh: He does a pretty convincing one [[spoiler:if he manages to kill Madison.]]
* FatBastard: He is very far from a heroic build and very, very much a villain.
* FatSlob: Obvious by the stains on his shirt, and the filthy condition of his house and (urgh!) fridge.
* KnifeNut: Other than a knife being handy in taxidermy he stalks Madison with one.
* MummiesAtTheDinnerTable: [[spoiler:White has killed at least five women, and put their taxidermied bodies on display in an upstairs room of his house. He holds regular conversations with them-- mostly about what new "friends" he's going to make for them next.]]
* LargeHam: Lots of evil laughing and toying with Madison.
* LivingDollCollector: [[spoiler:After all, he is a taxidermist with a killing streak.]]
* MonsterMisogyny: He mustn't like women in general [[spoiler:seeing that in his bathroom there is a female corpse in a blood filled bathtub while in another room there are five stuffed women. Aside from animals, no male victim is shown.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: Upon realizing that Madison is inside his house, he treats the resulting hunt for her like a game of Hide and Seek, or Hot and Cold. Also, when chasing Madison around the corridors, he can be heard delivering his hammiest impersonation of the Big Bad Wolf.
* SerialKiller: He has many victims by the time Madison investigates.
* SkippableBoss: The main objective of the level is to escape White's house alive; if actually ''fighting'' the knife-wielding psychopath doesn't appeal, then Madison can easily call the police from inside the house and wait until they arrest him, or just slip out the door without White noticing.
* TaxidermyIsCreepy: Most definitely; quite apart from the fact that the inside of White's house is filled with stuffed animal heads and carcasses, he's also [[spoiler:used his knowledge of taxidermy to preserve the bodies of his victims as dolls.]]
* VillainsOutShopping: Once he returns home, White immediately sits down in front of the TV to watch some boxing.
* YouLookFamiliar: He's voiced by the same actor as Scott Shelby.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Telling Blake about Ethan supposedly being the Origami Killer which resulted in Blake hunting down Ethan rather than helping him in finding Shaun.
* RelationshipSalvagingDisaster: One of the endings suggests that Ethan and Grace actually get back together in spite of their problems.
* WhatTheHellHero: She flings one of these speeches at Ethan after Shaun's disappearance. And while she said it under stress, though, and she almost immediately apologizes for it- before breaking down in tears, she does blame him for their son's death.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Grace is notably absent from a lot of the endings, with the exceptions of "Innocent" and "Ethan's Grave".

* ShowSomeLeg: Subverted at the last minute in the level "Gordy Kramer's Party"; here, Lauren attempts to distract the stairway guards by performing a sexy dance. However, the guards are clearly under contractual obligation to not be DistractedByTheSexy, so at the end of the dance, Lauren pretends to faint from a drug overdose, drawing both guards away from the stairs and allowing Scott to sneak past them.
* ThisIsUnforgivable:[[spoiler:This is her feelings toward Scott in every ending she is alive in. If he is alive, she shoots him. If he died, she spits on his grave.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: In the ending, [[spoiler:"A Mother's Revenge", where she murders the Origami Killer personally]].

* KarmaHoudini: The worst you can to do to him is get him to retire, but this requires you to first have Ethan [[spoiler:get shot by the police]].
* KnightTemplar: He is out to get the Origami Killer no matter who he wrongly persecutes.
* LackOfEmpathy: Almost to everyone except Captain Perry, Ash, Grace, and Scott.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler:Killing Ethan while Jayden is alive results in Blake getting suspended]].
* ObliviouslyEvil: His actions complicate the plot and he has a temper that causes him to punch or shoot all the wrong people.
* PetTheDog: Has his moments depending on how the player does in various situations. He saves Jayden from Korda if the player fails the QTEs, and respects Jayden's belief of never wanting to get used to killing if he shoots [[spoiler:Nathaniel]].
* PoliceAreUseless: [[CowboyCop Believes his methods of skirting around the law help him to get things done]]. [[DeconstructedTrope They really just make him a shitty cop]].
* PoliceBrutality: He always prefers to violently rough up people without any thought of getting any info out of them.
* RabidCop: To an almost comical degree. Blake's disregard for standard police procedure hinder the case. He'll go so far as to kill an innocent man because he thinks he's the killer.

* SmugSmiler: He smiles just to lay on his pretentiousness.
* SmugSnake: He super-confident in what he does and doesn't care if he breaks the rules.
