The castle mage of Wyvern and Princess Katharine's adviser. He is responsible for the Manhattan Clan living to the present day, cursing them to remain as statues for a thousand years in a fit of rage when he believes them to have caused Katharine's death. He tries to atone by raising the eggs from the Wyvern rookery on Avalon. * ThemeNaming: Demona named them after cities in California to parallel the Manhattan Clan's New York-themed names. According to Greg Weisman, it's not because she has a particular attachment to California, she just finds the clan's names silly and was parodying them.

* UnusuallyUninteresingSight: While Arthur was understandably fascinated by the changing of the times once he's touched down in modern day London, he doesn't bat an eye when encountering Griff. His reaction was a casual, "Oh, just a Gargoyle".

* MomentOfWeakness: He tried to defend the gargoyles from Hackon, but realizing that the Viking leader was stronger and threatened to kill him should he continue to interfere, the Captain had no choice but to submit and [[ForcedToWatch watch in horror]] as the gargoyles are destroyed.

* FalseFriend: Subverted: in the comics, [[spoiler:Renard is revealed to be the secret donor behind the Gargoyle Task Force newest anti-gargoyles weaponry, which was directly responsible for Goliath's capture. A gargoyle cyborg created by Xanatos and Demona from the remains of three of the lost in the Wyvern massacre, and animated by a combination of science and sorcery. Unfortunately, the three souls inhabiting the body don't always get along; two are mates, but the third is jealous and wants the female for himself. They were collectively known as just "Coldstone" until near the end of the series, when Xanatos created two additional robot bodies so each of the three had their own; now the main personality is Coldstone, his mate is Coldfire, and the evil one is Coldsteel.

* AllThereInTheScript: Before being separated and given their "Cold_____" names, the scripts referred to the individual gargoyles as [[Theatre/{{Othello}} Othello, Desdemona and Iago]]. Being traditional gargoyles, these aren't names they ever actually had, just ease of reference for the scripts.
* ArmCannon: A laser built into his right arm that appears to be the same sort of technology as the Steel Clan.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: Zig-zagged. Coldfire/Desdemona is a female gargoyle who gets [[SatelliteLoveInterest little characterization]] beyond being Coldstone's LoveInterest, and true to [[MonsterModesty female gargoyle fashion]], she wears a midriff-baring outfit in her non-cybernetic form (which in her case looks like a ChainmailBikini). However, Coldstone/Othello and Coldsteel/Iago also wear an armor piece that covers their chests but exposes their abs: on the former it's a breastplate, in the latter it's a metal disc attached with two straps, and they show no signs of femininity.
* ChangedMyMindKid: [[spoiler:Coldstone and Coldfire officially rejoin the Manhattan Clan at the end of the comics continuity.]]
* ClassicalAntiHero: Coldstone/Othello isn't a bad guy, but he certainly has his flaws, being quick to anger and at times, needing a push to do the right thing, such as in "High Noon", where Desdemona and the Weird Sisters had to convince him to intervene and remove their body from Iago's control.
* CombatTentacles: Coldsteel's weapons in his new body are steel cords that emerge from his hands.
* DeadpanSnarker: Iago/Coldsteel is hardly short of dry quips.
* EnemyWithin: Iago/Coldsteel started as one of the three souls in the MindHive of Coldstone and would both manipulate Coldstone himself and take control of their body.
* EnemyWithout: Iago/Coldsteel becomes this after gaining his own body.
* EvilSoundsDeep: When Iago is in control, Coldstone's voice doesn't change its timbre but it is more sinister sounding.
* FrankensteinsMonster: The circumstances of his creation by Xanatos and Demona are very similar to the monster in the classic story. Xanatos even uses the classic "It's Alive!" line when Coldstone is first brought online.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Coldsteel, especially by the high standards set by this show, is shallow. His VillainousCrush on Coldfire is mostly an afterthought; primarily, he's just an evil gargoyle who wants to betray and kill his clanmates for reasons never explained. This fits in somewhat with his basis in Shakespeare's Iago, whose stated motivations fluctuate from scene to scene.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: When Coldstone is afflicted with a virus that awakens his other two (previously) dormant personalities, Coldfire acts as his good shoulder angel while Coldsteel acts as his evil shoulder angel.
* HealingFactor: Coldsteel's new body is shown being able to self-repair parts of its body.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Iago's corrupting presence kept Coldstone at arms' length from the rest of the clan for much of the series as an untrustworthy WildCard until the personas were finally separated.
* HollywoodCyborg: To the point where one leg has a length of cybernetics connecting his calf to his ankle.
* LivingStatue: He is a collection of three shattered gargoyles brought to life through Demona's sorcery. In her words, "cold stone brought to life".
* LoveTriangle: Coldstone and Coldfire are mates, but Coldsteel wants Coldfire for himself.
** At one point Iago/Coldsteel manipulated Othello/Coldstone into thinking he was in this with Goliath over Desdemona/Coldfire's affections.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Coldstone/Othello and Coldfire/Desdemona are the biological parents of Gabriel, though again, gargoyle culture makes this a moot point.
* ManipulativeBastard: [[MeaningfulName Iago]] loves turning Coldstone against the rest of the clan. Go figure.
* MistakenForCheating: Some time in the past Desdemona was crying about something and Goliath comforted her. Iago uses this to manipulate Othello into thinking Goliath is trying to steal his beloved from him, and Othello/Coldstone naturally goes berserk.
* NiceMeanAndInbetween: Noble Coldfire is Nice, evil Coldsteel is Mean, and conflicted Coldstone is In Between.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's an undead cybernetic stone gargoyle with multiple personalities.
* PhlebotinumRebel: He turned on Xanatos and Demona when he realized that there should be more to life than mere survival.
* PlayingWithFire: Coldfire's flamethrowers, hence her name.
* StalkerWithACrush: Iago/Coldsteel has a fixation on Desdemona/Coldfire, who thoroughly rejects his advances.
* ThemeNaming: Coldstone's name was a LineOfSightName from Demona's description of him. Xanatos created two new robot bodies for the gargoyles trapped in the Hivemind and dubbed them Coldsteel and Coldfire to keep a theme.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Iago/Coldsteel was this for the Wyvern Clan. While the clan was friendly and noble (with even Demona still being a Face at the time), he was deceitful and cruel. WordOfGod states that he worked for the Archmage for a bit.[[invoked]]

* SecretSecretKeeper: He noticed Hudson didn't smell human, and eventually put two and two together. But he didn't bring it up until Hudson did.

* OfficialCouple: She hooks up with Derek sometime between "The Cage" and "Kingdom", and they eventually marry offscreen
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female of the Mutates, at least until the newly mutated Labyrinth residents are returned to the Labyrinth, among them being a preteen girl named Erin who was mutated into a turtle.

* DeadGuyJunior: Prince Malcom named her daughter after his mother, Queen Katharine, who passed away some years ago.

* BrainyBrunette: She was quite learned, although not very wise (at least until the Wyvern massacre).

* FreudianExcuse: Her loathing for gargoyles began as fear, because her father sometimes used them as boogeymen to scare her into obedience.

* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She wasn't afraid to take a shot at Demona to defend "the Eggs", and she spent more time watching over them when they were literally eggs then gossiping at court.
