* OldFashionedRowboatDate: Subverted. During a Bliss hallucination, the Marshal takes the Deputy into a rowboat, in a scene that looks exactly like the trope. But the relationship is purely platonic.

* TheWatson: Given that he's a fed sent into Hope County, he's the one who gets the exposition regarding the danger of The Cult. Too bad that he wound up being the one who underestimated them the most.

** Faith, ironically fulfills Joseph’s orders the most, but she seems to be in it less out of belief in Joseph, and more for a sense of belonging and avoiding being hurt by the Cult for her failures. [[spoiler:During her boss fight, either out of genuine anguish or to manipulate the Deputy, she states how the cult "plied her with drugs...when [she] was only a child" and pointedly, states "Joseph ''believes'' he's our savior".]]

* BigScrewedUpFamily: Between the four of them, the Seeds cover most of the tropes of the American cult landscape. Joseph is an apocalyptic DarkMessiah in the vein of David Koresh and Jim Jones. John takes inspiration from televangelists and quasi-religious self-help gurus such as Joel Osteen. Jacob is in the religious militia movement similar to the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana_Freemen Montana Freemen]]. And Faith represents a dark version of the drug-fueled hippie movements.

* SevenDeadlySins: John is obsessed with trying to find what sin everyone in the County is guilty of, though he's such a psychopath that he perceives trying to raise a family as "greed".

* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: He's regarded as the face of the cult and is highly charismatic. Out of the three brothers, however, he's the depraved and sadistic.

* ColorMotif: Yellow/gold, mostly exemplified by his glasses. He's introduced bathed in yellow light streaming from behind him from the Eden's Gate cross-shaped window behind him.

* ColorMotif: Red. He's a redhead and is associated with the Horseman of War, who is supposed to come on a red horse. His Judges have red crosses painted on their foreheads and the vision the player sees during Jacob's "trials" is tinted red.
