!!Disney/{{Snow White|AndTheSevenDwarfs}}
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snowwhite-disneyscreencaps_com-11815_2816.jpg]]

Considered the "fairest in all the land", she incites the jealousy of her vain stepmother, Queen Grimhilde when she spies her and a Prince serenading each other. With the help of her would-be murderer sent by the Queen, Snow White flees until she comes across the cottage of the Seven Dwarfs, whom she befriends.

->'''Voiced by:''' Adriana Caselotti, Creator/MaryKayBergman, Carolyn Gardner, Katherine Von Till
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Not in the final film--since Snow White has hair "as black as ebony" as described in most versions--surviving pre-production drawings showed potential blonde or redheaded Snow White's.
* {{All Loving Hero}}ine: Snow White doesn't seem to hate anyone and she seems to like or love everyone whom she meets, to the point where she is disappointed with her woodland friends for turning away a frail (and extremely suspicious) old lady.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: While the villain is renown for her beauty, it is Snow White whose beauty ends up being a feature that convinces the dwarfs to trust her, and the Evil Queen shows her ugliness at the end for further emphasis to the lovely Snow White.
* BreakTheCutie: Averted. Despite being enslaved and abused by her only family member, nearly murdered by said family, and being forced to run through a terrifying forest, she picks herself up and doesn't complain or cry much.
* CharacterTics: Often fluffs her hair before meeting someone.
* CinderellaCircumstances: Although it's never seen quite how the Queen behaved to seduce the king, the Evil Queen certainly follows through with the latter part of the trope, putting her husband's daughter to work, and dressing her in filthy rags to cover her beauty.
* TheCutie: Snow White is very loveable and endearing, and her cuteness is purposefully emphasized nowadays in contrast to some of the most elegant or tough princesses.
* DamselInDistress: Poor Snow White ends up most frequently in mortal peril compared to the others. When the Huntsmen tries to kill her, he spares her out of pity and shame. In the forest scene, she seemed to be running out of terror of her surroundings, which she perceives to be attacking her. And, of course, when she was offered the poisoned apple.
* DisneyDeath: Her moody death and funeral scenes were intended to make children and adults alike unfamiliar with the tale to believe she was truly dead. Nowadays the ending is completely ubiquitous in culture.
* {{Expy}}: Concept sketches of Snow White showed she was originally going to look much closer to WesternAnimation/BettyBoop. If you squint you can still see the resemblance. This was due to both of them being designed by the same person, Creator/GrimNatwick, as well as the style women were drawn in at the time.
* FairestOfThemAll: The most famous example: the Evil Queen hates Snow White for being the most beautiful person in the land.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: Is implied to be a SupremeChef by way of her association with the pie she makes for Grumpy, though it's never tasted. And don't forget about ''SOUP!''
* {{Foil}}: To the Queen. While the Queen is evil, selfish, and vain, Snow White is good, selfless, and caring.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Unlike the other princesses (save Tiana in frog form) the audience gets to watch her befriend the animals of the forest, who are naturally attracted to her.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Snow White wears primary colors (by contrast, the evil queen wears black and purple).
* HairDecorations: Her hairband with bow, which is blue in peasant clothes and red in princess clothes, and is one of the most iconic parts of her image.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She completely trusts a creepy hag and thinks she's just a nice "poor old lady", which shows just how good and pure she is--her animal friends who immediately realize something is up don't even convince her not to help.
* IWantSong: "I'm Wishing", "Someday My Prince Will Come".
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Snow White is so kind, so sweet-natured, and so good-hearted to everything and everyone she wins over even the most shy and unruly of creatures.
* TheIngenue: The most prominent example among the Disney Princesses. Since the movie came out in such early times, her innocence and naivete are meant to be very appealing, and provide a sufficient, sympathetic explanation for why she trusts the hag or is terrified of the forest.
* OfficialCouple: With the Prince.
* ParentalAbandonment: Her mother died when she was young and her father doesn't appear to be present in the movie, if he is alive.
* PimpedOutDress: Like all of the princesses, she gets more fancy designs of her movie dress. Her merchandise particularly focuses on collar and skirt when it pimps her out.
* ThePollyanna: At most, she breaks down briefly in fear, but she is quick to revive from attempted murder and maintains a very cheery, positive disposition.
* PrincessClassic: The sweet-singing, sweet-natured, and beautiful Snow White ends up with her prince in a castle in the clouds.
* ProperLady: Her feminine skills are emphasized more than any other princess, and thus she is perhaps the most quintessential example.
* ProtagonistTitle: The movie is named after her.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: "Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin white as snow." Snow White is probably at least a contender for TropeCodifier.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: The prince with no name, who could not be more present in the movie due to the difficulties of depicting and animating handsome young men.
* SculleryMaid: Hoping to cover up her beauty, the Evil Queen assigns her to hard labor in rags as a scullery maid, but this doesn't stop the Prince from loving her.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Snow's blue and yellow princess dress doesn't have much decorations other than the slashes on the sleeves and high-collar.
* SmittenTeenageGirl: In regards to the Prince. When she first sees the Prince, she instantly and deeply falls in love with him.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Despite the Evil Queen's efforts to make her uglier by dressing her in rags and making her work, Snow White still becomes the fairest in the land by fourteen, so the Queen demands her death.
* SupremeChef: Suggested. She's iconically associated with the pie she makes for Grumpy, but it's never actually tasted. They seem to like her cooking according to the [=CDs=] and in the video game, ''VideoGame/KinectDisneylandAdventures''.
* TeamMom: To the dwarves. She even tells them, grown men, they'll get no supper till they wash up!
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Snow White "dies" after she bites a poisoned apple made by the Evil Queen.
* TrueLovesKiss: Notably, it's specifically "love's ''first'' kiss", which implies it only works on chaste women.
* WideEyedIdealist: Snow White is a strong believer that one day, all of her dreams will come true.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: The MagicMirror claims that Snow White is "the fairest of them all", deposing her stepmother from the title.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: WaltDisney was aiming to make her look to be around 14 years old, which was closer to her age in original versions of the story.

!![[Disney/SleepingBeauty Aurora]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sleeping-disneyscreencaps_com-3538_362.jpg]]

On the day of her christening, she was betrothed to Prince Phillip and given the gifts of beauty and song from the fairies Flora and Fauna, but the evil fairy Maleficent cursed her to die on contact with the spindle of a spinning wheel when she was slighted. The third fairy Merryweather mitigated the curse by changing its effect to an enchanted sleep that could be broken by TrueLovesKiss. To prevent any further harm by Maleficent, the fairies took her away to live as a peasant in the forest.

->'''Voiced by:''' Mary Costa, Creator/JenniferHale, Kate Higgins, Erin Torpey (speaking), Cassidy Ladden (singing)
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Poor Aurora is actually in a coma for the second half of the film. The first half? She's losing screen time to the fairies, Prince Phillip, and the two kings.
* ColorCodedMultiplayer: In the Sleeping Beauty edition of the board game ''Pretty Pretty Princess'', the player pieces are all Aurora in her bejeweled gown, but one is pink, one blue, one purple and one gold.
* CoolCrown: Before Tiana, she became the only princess to never appear in clipart or merchandise without a tiara, and in the movie the fairies emphasize that it is symbolic of her right and duty as princess.
* DamselInDistress: Maybe one of the most intense and epic examples among the line, where Prince Phillip must battle a dragon with the powers of Hell to rescue the princess.
* DangerousSixteenthBirthday: While the curse in Creator/{{Disney}}'s adaptation of ''Disney/SleepingBeauty'' has a 16-year time period to be fulfilled instead of a certain day, the curse was fulfilled on Aurora's 16th birthday, just moments before its time was up.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Despite apparently having access to shoes, Aurora prefers to go barefoot when she ventures into the forest.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Aurora tells her animal friends that she dreams of finding love with a prince, and that she hopes the fact she dreamed it more than once means it will come true. It does.
* EveryProperLadyShouldCurtsy: How she greets her parents after meeting them, emphasizing her suitability as royalty.
* FormFittingWardrobe: Her princess dress really fits her torso well, which can be done by a skilled tailor, but in this case with the aid of magic.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: It seems the woodland creatures were her only companions outside of her "aunts", and they're very dedicated to her.
* GirlInTheTower: Where the Fairies put her to rest to await TrueLovesKiss; it becomes more of a prison when Maleficent is there guarding it with minions, thorns, and her own ScaledUp self.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's a beautiful, young, romantic, innocent girl, and her Gift of Beauty even blesses her with 'hair of sunshine gold'.
* HollywoodCostuming: Her princess dress would fit more with the fancy dresses in films like ''Film/RomanHoliday'' than medieval times (even the GorgeousPeriodDress versions). Even her peasant dress fits the silhouettes of the 1950s instead of peasant attire of the past.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Maleficent hypnotizes her with a green ball of light, in order to make her prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel.
* IWantSong: "I Wonder", where she sings about wanting a companion and love.
* TheIngenue: Her most prominent character traits are her romanticism and innocence.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: The only people she can remember knowing have been hiding a large secret from her for sixteen years.
* ModestRoyalty: No GiantPoofySleeves, a minimum of the ErmineCapeEffect, an elegant but understated tiara... the most remarkable thing about her dress is the war the Fairies fight over what color it's supposed to be. This makes her starkly elegant against some of the other (more period accurate) nobility of the court.
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Phillip.
* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: They even met ''before'' they knew they were to be wed.
* PimpedOutDress: Her princess dress isn't an example, but the CostumePorn editions of it in the merchandise certainly do.
* PinballProtagonist: Despite being the titular character. The only thing she does of her own volition is run into Phillip; everything else she does is at someone else's order or suggestion. She has a total of eighteen lines of dialogue in the entire movie.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Aurora has two dresses, one pink and one blue. Even though she wears the blue dress for most of the movie, all the merchandise has her in a pink dress.
* PrincessClassic: Aurora is the most traditional and fairy tale like of the princesses. Many modern examples of this trope are inspired directly by Aurora and her story, right down to a typical PrinceCharming's dressing like Phillip. As such, she's often represented in the merchandise as the most quintessential princess. For example, her name is always styled as "Princess Aurora" and she is always shown to be wearing her crown, which were both unique to the line before Tiana.
* PrincessesPreferPink / TrueBlueFemininity: Aurora herself never chooses the color of her dress. Flora and Merryweather got in a fight over the color of the dress - pink or blue. It's mostly blue throughout the movie. In the merchandise, it's usually pink. Older fans of the princesses generally prefer blue, but there can be some fighting over which color is better. Occasionally Disney puts her in a [[GracefulLadiesLikePurple violet dress]] as a compromise, and more and more modern merchandise has reversible dresses or alternate dolls with the blue dress.
* PurpleEyes: Aurora is probably the most magical of the princesses, having been enchanted to look beautiful, sing beautifully, and be beloved. This is reflected by her eyes; she is the only princess to have an abnormal eye color.
* RebelliousPrincess: To an extent. Once she finally learns that she is a princess and will be subject to an ArrangedMarriage, she is ''not'' happy with the idea and tries to get out of it. On the flip side, [[RebelPrince Philip]] wasn't about to accept his end of the bargain either.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Phillip has more personality than previous princes (he's the first one to have a name, for one), but since the good fairies move most of the plot, he and Aurora exist mostly to fall in love with each other and get menaced by Maleficent.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Her dress, again fitting the high fashion standards of when the film was made.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Aurora bears a strong resemblance to her mother--which possibly indicates the Fairies may have enchanted ''her'' too when she was a little girl.
* TheTragicRose: Her "peasant" name is Briar Rose (a nod to her name in Creator/TheBrothersGrimm tale), and the fairies place a rose to her chest when her curse is fulfilled.
* TrueLovesKiss: The compromise for altering Maleficent's curse for Aurora to die was to change it into an everlasting sleep that could only be broken by this.

!![[Disney/TheLittleMermaid Ariel]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PrincessAriel_8422.jpg]]

A rebellious mermaid princess, she desired most to live above the sea and learn about humans, despite the wishes of her father, Triton the Sea King. After rescuing the human prince Eric and falling in love with him, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to be turned into human. They bargain that she must receive the kiss of True Love by three days, or else belong to Ursula.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jodi Benson
----
* EightiesHair: Not the frizzy and curly kind, but her hair is certainly voluminous, and maintains its shape even when being underwater should weigh it down.
* ActionGirl: Excusing Mulan and Rapunzel, Ariel gets into the most action scenarios, especially in any extra material she appears in.
* ActionMom: In the sequel.
* {{Adorkable}}: When she's human and on dry land for the first time. She takes in everything with an almost contagious amount of childish curiosity and wonderment. And who could forget the scene when she tried to comb her hair with a fork?
* AlmostKiss: With Eric, which is interrupted by Flotsam and Jetsam so she doesn't fulfill her bargain.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: One of the few meanings of "Ariel" in Hebrew is "lion of God".
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Ariel is the youngest daughter of Triton's seven daughters.
* BadassPrincess: Probably the first badass Disney princess and was most certainly the first to save her prince. The TV series, sequel and her appearance in the ''KingdomHearts'' video game only solidified her badassery. Ariel was the only female party member in the first game (unless you count Tinkerbell, who was a summon), and knew powerful Fire/Ice/Lightning magic, among others.
* BareYourMidriff: Wears only a seashell bra for the first half of the movie.
* BirdsOfAFeather: She wanted to escape her underwater life to live above ground. Eric wanted to escape his landlocked life to go out to sea.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: Initially. No more in the sequel as she is a mother and an adult.
* BreakTheCutie: Triton, did you ''really'' have to destroy her collection of human possessions? It's a miracle she didn't ''disown'' her father for that!
* CharacterDevelopment: By the time of the sequel and becoming a mother, Ariel is more mature and level-headed than she was in the first movie.
* CharacterTics: Ariel sighs so that it blows her bangs upward and bites her lip, the latter of which was taken from the animator's wife as a habit.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Seen this way by other merpeople due to her obsession with human things.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: She has a grotto full of human things, which are considered strange by merfolk standards.
* CoolCrown: Wears a gold tiara as part of her wedding dress. She gets a few more crowns in the sequel, and of course in the merch.
* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: The ''entire plot'' of the sequel could have been avoided if Ariel had simply told Melody ''why'' she was forbidden to go in the sea. When Melody goes missing, Ariel even acknowledges that she blew it.
* CuteMute: Ariel when she loses her voice, which requires some of the best animation in the film in getting her to express herself without speaking.
* DaddysGirl: She butts heads with Triton a lot, but she is ''furious'' when Ursula transforms him into a [[BalefulPolymorph polyp]]- even her last line in the movie is, "I love you, Daddy."
* DealWithTheDevil: How Ariel loses her voice to Ursula.
* {{Determinator}}: You can see it in her eyes when she agrees to Ursula's impossible bargain.
* DisneyDeath: Gets hit with this in ''Ariel's Beginning'', though since this is a prequel, some may be more fooled by it than others.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: After getting her new feet, Ariel often prances about barefoot during her stay at the castle.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Well Ariel never saw a horse-drawn carriage before, so she didn't know how. A bit of HilarityEnsues (it's not stated in the sequel if she learned since then).
* FairytaleWeddingDress: Gets a big, poofy [[TheEighties '80s]] version in her wedding with Eric, which helped characterize that specific look as a fairy tale wedding dress in the modern age (along with Cinderella).
* FatalFlaw: Her curiosity nearly led to Ursula ruling the sea.
* FieryRedhead: More rebellious than angry, and easier to see in the first half of the movie.
* FishOutOfWater: It's actually Ariel's dream, and although she doesn't exactly blend in, she's endearing enough that it doesn't bother the people she meets.
* FormerTeenRebel: In the sequel, she scolds Melody for doing what she used to do as a teen. Granted, she did have good reason, but all she ever told Melody was to stay out of the ocean.
* GenerationXerox: She's got it from her mother, Queen Athena, and her daughter Melody looks identical to her in all but color scheme.
* GenkiGirl: She frustrates her father with how energetic and adventurous she is.
* GiantPoofySleeves: As per '80s norm, and probably no small part in why poofy sleeves are still considered princess-y (along with Snow White).
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her seashell bikini top, and her dress in the sequel.
* HappilyMarried: To Eric in the sequel.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Much like her father, she decides that it's best for Melody's safety to keep Melody ignorant of her true origins and heritage. However, it is Melody's ignorance (and Ariel's unwillingness to be truthful when she finds the locket) that cause her to run away and go against her mother until Morgana reveals her true colors.
* IWantSong: "Part Of Your World".
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Ariel has a very slim hourglass figure, both as a mermaid and a human.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Ariel's innocence is especially emphasized when she meets Ursula, who despite many signs decides to trust for a chance to be with Eric and be human.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: When she first becomes human, the only thing she's wearing is her SeashellBra. Not having much knowledge of clothes, who knows how much longer she would have went naked without care if Scuttle hadn't given her that old sail.
* InterspeciesFriendship: Her closest friends are as listed: Flounder (fish), Sebastian (crab), and Scuttle (seagull).
* InterspeciesRomance: Ariel, a mermaid, falls in love and marries Eric, a human.
* LikeParentUnlikeChild: Ariel is one of seven daughters. The other six are blonde and brunette, and perfectly content being mermaids. Ariel is the only redhead, and the only one who finds any interest at all in the surface world. This drastic contrast causes severe friction between her and her father, Triton.
* LoveAtFirstSight: For Eric.
* MamaBear:
** Inverted- during the climax of the movie, Ariel ''attacks Ursula'' when she transforms her father.
** So far the only princess where we see that she's had children (although it's not outright denied that the other princesses become mothers).
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Implied that she is this to Eric; in the dinner scene, his housekeeper mentions that he rarely laughed before he met Ariel.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Ariel has six older sisters: [[AlphabeticalThemeNaming Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana]].
* MeaningfulName: It's also the name of the air-spirit servant in The Tempest—appropriate for the mermaid who's bent on leaving the water and living an air-breathing existence.
* MissingMom: Athena, whose role is filled out in a prequel movie.
* MsFanservice: A gorgeous red-headed bikini-top wearing mermaid with a mesmerizing voice.
* MumLooksLikeASister: In the sequel, despite having a twelve-year-old daughter, Ariel hasn't aged a day since being sixteen.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In "Return To The Sea," her decision of refusing to tell Melody why she is forbidden to enter the sea is what set the whole plot in motion. Ariel even acknowledges that she blew it.
* OddNameOut: If you notice, while she's in an AlliterativeFamily, her name is the only one that doesn't end with an "a."
* OfficialCouple: With Prince Eric.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Although little is fleshed out about their culture in the first two movies (the series fixes this).
* ParentalHypocrisy: She becomes a strict mother to Melody, just like how King Triton was to her. This may be justified, as both Triton and Ariel had good reasons to be protective.
* PimpedOutDress: Her pink dress and wedding dress in the first movie, and a few more in the sequel.
* PinocchioSyndrome: The main plot point of the movie is Ariel becoming human.
* PluckyGirl
* PoorCommunicationKills: In the sequel, her decision to keep Melody LockedOutOfTheLoop about her mermaid heritage is the catalyst for a significant chunk of the plot.
* PrincessesPreferPink: The first human dress she's seen wearing, and her nightgown, are pink.
* RebelliousPrincess: Although it's never expressed whether she had any royal duties, she's probably the most rebellious of the princesses.
* RedHeadedHeroine: Her red hair is so memorable it's quite often that ''any'' mermaid is depicted with red hair nowadays.
* RedheadInGreen: As a mermaid, Ariel has a green tail. In the sequel, one of her dresses was green. And her redesign dress is green too.
* RescueRomance: Although Eric gets the biggest moment with saving Ariel at the climax, the true Rescue Romance is actually Ariel saving Eric, which leads them both to falling in love. His obsession with the beautiful singer who saved him leads him to overlook Ariel as a love interest for the first day of knowing her.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Energetic Girl to Eric's Savvy Guy.
* SeashellBra: Most likely the TropeCodifier, but not the TropeMaker--the mermaids in ''Disney/PeterPan'' had them first.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: She turns into sea foam at the end of the fairy tale, and must work to gain a soul.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: {{Justified}}. Ariel was born a mermaid and thus can easily talk to animals, especially sea creatures.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: In ''Ariel's Beginning'', her mother Queen Athena looks exactly like Ariel with {{green eyes}}.
* TitleCharacter: The "little mermaid" refers to Ariel.
* TomboyPrincess: Very feisty, active and adventurous, and can hold her own against a shark.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Despite her tomboyish traits, she's also very flirty and hopelessly romantic.
* TookALevelInBadass: In a lot of works other than the movie, she does this, notably the animated series, the stage musical, and some of the ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' games.
* TrueBlueFemininity: The dress she wore while on a date with Eric, as well as the sparkling gown she wears after her final transformation.
* TrueLovesKiss: Her actual given mission in her movie is to get "the kiss of true love".
* YoungestChildWins: Of the "the other ones are boring" variety. Ariel is the most unique in appearance, as well as the most praised in voice. She is the only one with whom the movie focuses on. The animated series and prequel does a bit to flesh out the other sisters.

->'''Voiced by:''' Jodi Benson
----
* EightiesHair: Not the frizzy and curly kind, but her hair is certainly voluminous, and maintains its shape even when being underwater should weigh it down.
* ActionGirl: Excusing Mulan and Rapunzel, Ariel gets into the most action scenarios, especially in any extra material she appears in.
* ActionMom: In the sequel.

!![[Disney/{{Aladdin}} Jasmine]]
[[quoteright:259:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jasmine_Princess_Pic.png]]

As princess of Agrabah, she must marry by her sixteenth birthday, yet only wishes to marry for love. Tired of the confines of palace life, she escapes and meets a peasant thief named Aladdin, whose life she saves when he is caught by the thugs of the evil vizier to her father, Jafar, before being returned to the palace. With the help of the Genie, Aladdin later becomes Prince Ali unbeknownst to Jasmine and tries to win her heart.

->'''Voiced by:''' Linda Larkin-Vasquez (speaking), Lea Salonga (singing), Liz Callaway (singing)
----
* ActionGirl: Not so much in the movie, but very much so in the series. There she often helps Aladdin beat the bad guy of the week, and in several episodes, she does it by herself.
* BadassPrincess: Again, she's one in the series.
* BareYourMidriff: She provides the page image!
* BedlahBabe: In fact is probably the premier example in fiction (so much so that Halloween versions of this dress are often deliberately modelled after her). Her outfit is the source of some controversy and also some difficulties with portraying her in the line--since she doesn't wear a swishy ballgown she often looks out of place in the line when they're in unique {{Pimped Out Dress}}es.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: In two ways: Firstly: She's sweet, caring and pure-hearted, but it is ''not'' wise to make her angry at you. Secondly: Underestimating her is a ''very'' bad idea. Villains and non-villians alike, including Aladdin, always learn this the hard way.
%%* TheChick
* DaddysGirl: She's a cross between this and RebelliousPrincess, as she loves her father dearly, but doesn't always see eye-to-eye with him.
* DamselOutOfDistress: Capture and other forms of distress were common in the movies and series but she rescued herself often enough and was [[DefiantCaptive never docile about it]]. One example in the movie is distracting Jafar while Aladdin went for the lamp and one from the series was her escape attempts from the Enchanted Garden.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Towards Aladdin (under his Prince Ali guise) in the original film. Initially she's as impressed with him as with her other suitors (That is, not at all). "A Whole New World" is the bulk of it, and concludes when she deduces that "Prince Ali" is actually "The boy from the market".

* EvilCostumeSwitch: Her "Scourge of the Desert" costume in ''Forget Me Lots''.
%%* FairytaleWeddingDress: [[spoiler:In the third film.]]
* FriendToAllChildren: She has shown this many times, [[spoiler: especially in the series episode "The Ethereal", where she [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices herself to save a child]], and gets better soon afterward.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She even sympathizes with Arbutus after he kidnaps her, when she realizes that all of his plants are still living things.
* GirlyBruiser: Mainly in the series where she is more a tough ActionGirl, but still a very feminine princess at heart.
* GoldMakesEverythingShiny: Her necklace and earrings.
* GoGoEnslavement: Jafar makes Princess Jasmine wear a red harem outfit, although her normal clothes don't cover much more; they're just blue. Once he's defeated they turn back, confirming they were magical in nature.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Some of TheMerch gives her a purple PimpedOutDress (but still has a bared midriff).
* HairDecorations: Her headband.
* HotterAndSexier: The original ''Aladdin'' movie has an in-universe example when Jafar puts Jasmine in GoGoEnslavement. It cuts lower at cleavage and crotch to emphasize this.
* HypnotizeThePrincess: Invokes this trope as part of WeNeedADistraction. However, this actually happens to her for real in the TV show episode "I Never Mechanism I Didn't Like".
* IJustWantToBeFree: Although after the first attempt ending so disastrously (and then shortly meeting Ali after), she stops trying.
* IWantSong: In both of the musical stage adaptations, she gets one. In the "Aladdin Musical Spectacular" stage show at Disneyland, it's [[http://youtu.be/W5_NLFNiq9A "To Be Free"]], and in the Broadway Musical, it's [[http://youtu.be/zU1OnvsCm3o "These Palace Walls"]].
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Along with Ariel, she has the most exaggerated figure of any Disney Princess or heroine.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Heard prominently about twenty seconds into "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf0gVQck16c Jasmine Runs Away]]."
* MarryForLove: If she's gotta get married, it better be to the guy she wants!
* MissingMom: Her mother is mentioned briefly when the Sultan says her mother wasn't nearly so picky, but is otherwise presumed dead.
* MsFanservice: Definitely an attractive Disney Princess, especially in her red slave suit.
* OfficialCouple: With Aladdin.
* OutOfFocus: Played with. She's first Franchise/DisneyPrincess to be a {{Deuteragonist}} rather than a {{Protagonist}}, but she still has a very big role. Despite being a deuteragonist, Jasmine has the most screen time of all the Disney Princesses, being in three movies, a TV series, a short, a Broadway play, and some video games. [[note]]The Enchanted Tales short is what tips her over the edge-- Ariel also has three movies, a television series, a Broadway play, and video games.[[/note]]
* ParentService: Probably the most sexualized of any of the Disney Princesses, presumably because the movie is about Aladdin and she's meant to be seen through his eyes.
* PluckyGirl: Among other things, she managed to sneak out of the palace and openly stood up to Jafar.
* RapunzelHair: Until ''Tangled'', she had the longest hair of any Disney Princess and still does if you discount magical enhancement.
* RebelliousPrincess: Not only does she not want to get married, she also doesn't enjoy the confinements of palace life—therefore she is the most quintessential example in the line
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* RunawayFiancee: Really any fiancee, since Jasmine wasn't interested in marrying for anything but love.
* ShowSomeLeg: The only Disney Princess who tries to bait the villain with her affections. It almost worked, if not for the reflection of the tiara she wore.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Doesn't give one flying rat's ass about all the rich, snobby princes trying to woo her, and instead goes for the poor but good-hearted Aladdin. The whole film gives the message of ''BeYourself''.
* SpoiledSweet: Along with Ariel, she's the only Disney Princess who grew up as a princess. Her life is especially shown to be grand and sumptuous.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Jasmine's regular outfit is pretty revealing, but her slave outfit manages to be even more so.
* TakenForGranite: There was an episode in the TV Series where Mozenrath turned Jasmine to stone.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly girl to Sadira's Tomboy.
* TomboyPrincess: Mainly in the series where she is more rowdy and much tougher, but is still [[TomboyWithAGirlyStreak a very feminine princess at heart.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Kicks a lot more butt in the series than in the movie.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her outfit was colored a bright blue to invoke the idea of an oasis in the desert.
* {{Tsundere}}: A Type B -- contrary to her reputation among fans as being very temperamental, Jasmine only ever reacts poorly to the people she believes are trying to use her, and otherwise she is a sunny and friendly person.
* TheUglyGuysHotDaughter: As is generally true of many comic-relief Disney dads, the Sultan is a short, fat man (though not ''cartoonishly'' ugly either), and his daughter is beautiful and willowy.
* UptownGirl: The daughter of the local Sultan who falls for a "street rat".
* WellExcuseMePrincess: A few times she can come off as over-reacting and unreasonable.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's only ''fifteen'' at the start of the film, but is presumably sixteen by the end.

!![[Disney/{{Tangled}} Rapunzel]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rapunzel-dp_7175.jpg]]

Born to a queen who needed the power of a magic flower to come to term with her, she was stolen by the witch Gothel who had been previously using the flower to remain forever youthful. The witch discovers that Rapunzel's hair now holds the power of the flower unless it is cut, and so keeps her locked in a hidden tower and unaware of her heritage, until the thief Flynn Rider (Eugene Fitzherbert) tries to make her tower a hideaway spot. She strikes a deal for him to bring her to see the floating lanterns that have appeared every year on her birthday, in exchange for the item he stole: the Princess' crown.

->'''Voiced by:''' Music/MandyMoore
----
* TheAce: She's good at everything, as seen in the first song "When Will My Life Begin". Her talents include cooking, painting, chess, pottery, candle making, sewing, ballet, ventriloquy, playing the guitar and many more. Not to mention that she's brave, strong, BadassAdorable, able to befriend everyone she meets, and of course, like every Disney Princess, has a beautiful singing voice.
* ActionDuo: With Flynn. Later on they become more of a BattleCouple.
* ActionGirl: The first sign of her, in the original trailers, is her beating someone up with PrehensileHair. Although this didn't make it into the film, she remains a pretty mean hand with a [[FryingPanOfDoom frying pan]] and saves Flynn's bacon on more than one occasion.
* AdaptationalBadass: In the original fairy tale, the heroine is a DamselInDistress and not much else. Here, she's an ActionGirl who's quite handy with a frying pan.
* {{Adorkable}}: Rapunzel has a bit of an overbite, she lisps when she talks at times, hides in her hair during the song "Mother Knows Best" when afraid, GenkiGirl, she's overall naive, very pretty and downright adorably {{Moe}}.
* AlmostKiss: ''Twice'' - The first time was [[spoiler:in the rowboat before the MoodWhiplash where Flynn sees the Stabbington brothers]], and the second was [[spoiler:right before he cuts her hair off.]]
* ArtShift: As Disney's first princess to appear in a 3D computer-animated film, Rapunzel is given a 2D [[http://emilysdisneythoughts.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/554512_10151273014302620_1182212377_n.jpg makeover]] in promotional material for the line to match with the other princesses.
* BadassAdorable: Cute as a button, but not even the least afraid to talk down angry thugs and angry horses.
* BadassPrincess: She is a princess, though not knowing it, but as the above states she is an incredibly resourceful young lady.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Rapunzel runs off to adventure with 70 feet of hair and bare feet. She gets wet but dries off quickly, and at no point are her hair and feet ever seen to get dirty. The hair is justified because it's magical. The feet have no excuse.
* BlessedWithSuck:
** Rapunzel briefly alludes to the difficulties of having 70-foot long hair during her IWantSong.
-->And then I'll brush and brush and brush and brush my hair!
** Gothel has also made Rapunzel believe that she would be in constant danger outside the tower because selfish people want her healing power for themselves. Along with the actual truth in that statement and the resulting tower imprisonment as well.
* BlitheSpirit: Her cheerful, genuine nature is what brings out the good side of the thugs at the Snuggly Duckling and saves Flynn's life.
* BoundAndGagged: [[spoiler:Mother Gothel ties up Rapunzel for wanting to save Flynn from execution and to lure Flynn into a trap later on.]]
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:After Flynn cuts her hair. It kills Mother Gothel and turns her into a brunette. However, it's implied to not be the case in the short ''Disney/TangledEverAfter'', where her kiss with Eugene makes the sun shine brighter.]]
* BuildingSwing: Using her hair as a rope, she can swing.
* CallingTheOldWomanOut: [[spoiler:Does this to Mother Gothel near the climax of the movie]].
* CharacterDevelopment: Rapunzel loses her fear of the outside world and [[spoiler:learns to stand up to her abusive adoptive mother]].
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Pulling up Mother Gothel from the top of the tower everyday has made her stronger than she looks. She can effortlessly wield a frying pan one-handed.
* ChekhovsGun:
** Rapunzel's [[spoiler:complete, non-negotiable unwillingness to break her promises]] greatly informs the film's climax, when she promises to Mother Gothel that, if she lets Rapunzel [[spoiler:heal Flynn]], Rapunzel will stay with her forever and offer no resistance. Needless to say, it makes the scene pretty tense.
** The fact that her hair glows [[spoiler:helps her and Flynn escape a watery death.]]
** Her passion for painting bright, colorful patterns and flowers on the walls of her tower [[spoiler:proves essential to her realizing her true identity.]]
* CompressedHair: While touring the kingdom, her 70 feet of hair is compressed into one floor-length braid. {{Justified|Trope}} as it was braids that were braided to create one big braid.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Thanks to her hair, she is endearing klutzy. Even beyond this, she seems to have a bit of klutziness in general; witness her attempts to get Flynn into her cupboard, the way she accidentally clonks herself with her own frying pan, and so forth.
* TheCutie: She's more cute than beautiful, and her mannerisms and personality make her the one of the most adorable Disney Princesses.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Rapunzel has been emotionally and psychologically abused by the woman who kidnapped her as a baby.
* DitzyGenius: She's incredibly multi-talented and capable of great insights, but also has her moments of (perfectly understandable) naive idiocy.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Rapunzel is of the youthful innocence variety, plus she's just never needed shoes due to never leaving her tower. Interestingly, no one in the entire film comments on it, aside from Mother Gothel pointing a mirror down at Rapunzel's bare feet and commenting that she's "underdressed"— causing Rapunzel to immediately cup her fingers over her toes. In the storybook version of ''Tangled Ever After'', she's still barefoot, even at her wedding. (In the short film, her dress is too long to tell.) The later storybook ''Ghosts of Christmas Past'' then shows that while she'll shun shoes most of the time, she'll renege to them if it calls for walking in snow.
* EarthyBarefootCharacter: Her lack of shoes reflects her free-spirited and energetic nature, her way with animals, and her healing powers.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange:
** Rapunzel has her hair braided and decorated with flowers when she finally reaches Corona. On a practical level, she couldn't really run around with 70 feet of hair dragging behind her. On a symbolic level, it's a sign that she's finally able to let loose and have fun, without her MagicHair being the centre of her very being. [[spoiler:This is contrasted with when she is convinced to go back to the tower with Gothel; the braid is undone, and the flowers taken away, with Gothel off-handedly commenting "There... like it never even happened."]]
** At the end of the movie, Rapunzel's hair [[spoiler: is cut off and reverts to its likely natural brown color]].
* FairytaleWeddingDress: In the follow-up short that focuses on her wedding.
* FantasticLightSource: [[spoiler:Rapunzel uses her magic hair to find the way out of a flooded cave.]]
* FlowersInHerHair: Once she enters the kingdom, little girls braid her hair to make it easier to move around. They added a plethora of flowers. She is the image on the trope page.
* FluffyTamer: She converted [[spoiler:Maximus, a {{Badass}} war horse]] to her side with petting and baby talk.
* FountainOfYouth: Her hair is the key to Mother Gothel's immortality after her mother ate the magic flower during pregnancy.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: From horses to thugs to thieves and beyond.
* FryingPanOfDoom: Her rather dynamic weapon is a cast iron version.
* GenkiGirl: The most energetic of all of the Princesses (only matched by Ariel in her first days as a human).
* GirlInTheTower: Lived in their all her life. Unlike the standard trope, she could physically leave whenever she wanted but her "mom" said she couldn't.
* GirlyBruiser: Though she doesn't discover that she's a {{Badass}} until she leaves her tower at age 18. To make the example even more pronounced, her weapons of choice are her 70 feet of hair and a frying pan.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her main outfit is a purple and lavender dress.
%% Rapunzel does not fit the criteria for GreenEyes, please don't add here
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Although the hair is gold by magic, she is still kind enough to stir the hearts of the thugs at the Snuggly Duckling.

* HeroicSacrifice: Tries to do this at the end [[spoiler:by sacrificing her freedom for Flynn's life. He beats her to it by sacrificing his life for her freedom.]]

* IWantSong: "When Will My Life Begin?"
* ImportantHaircut: [[spoiler:Granted, it's done to her hair by Flynn, but it's to stop Gothel from using Rapunzel anymore.]]

Then [[spoiler:she gets her hair cut off into a perfectly styled and layered pixie cut. The hair was cut off in one go with a [[AbsurdlySharpBlade pane of glass.]]]]
* TheIngenue: Her naivete and innocence are two of her biggest traits, and end up being strengths for her on occasion.
* LivingMacGuffin: Her hair, which can heal any wound and sickness, and grant someone everlasting youth is why she's locked in a tower.
* MagicHair: It can heal injuries as well as sickness, glows in the dark, and can reverse aging. The climax and ''Tangled Ever After'' imply there's magic in her main body as well.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: From Flynn's perspective, her energy and good-heartedness cause him to change his ways and his life.
* MoodSwinger: In one memorable scene when she goes out to the world for the first time in 18 years.
* MoralityPet:
** To Flynn. His nicer side doesn't show until he's forced to help her.

* OfficialCouple: With Eugene. They're in the sequel short.
* PietaPlagiarism: [[spoiler:While she holds Flynn after his HeroicSacrifice.]]
* PluckyGirl: She's quite determined to see the "stars" from her birthday, even though her mother is constantly gas-lighting and deriding her, and she definitely takes some initiative in fulfilling her dreams.
* PowerDyesYourHair: She was ''born'' with her hair dyed by the power of the sun. When cut, her hair loses its magic powers and returns to it's natural brown color.
* ThePowerOfTheSun: It's imbued in her hair because of the flower, and it lets her heal.
* PrincessesPreferPink: At the end of the movie, after she remembers that she is a princess, she wears a rosy-pink dress.
* RagsToRoyalty: A Goose Girl type; kidnapped as a baby so Mother Gothel can make use of her MagicHair and ignoring that she's a long-lost princess.
* RapunzelHair: Being a retelling of the TropeNamer, she couldn't do without it, but some magic justifies it here. It's stated in [[AllThereInTheManual an official "fact book"]] of ''Tangled'' facts that it takes Rapunzel three hours to brush her hair, and ''six hours'' to wash it. She hangs it out of the tower to let it dry.
* RememberedICouldFly: In the scene where Rapunzel and Flynn are [[spoiler:trapped in a sealed cave while it gets flooded, Flynn fails to find an underwater exit since the cave is pitch-black]]. It takes a little while to Rapunzel to realize she can get some light with her hair.

'''Flynn:''' ''[[BigWhat What?!]]''\\
'''Rapunzel:''' ''I have... MAGIC HAIR THAT GLOWS WHEN I SING!''
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Rapunzel's magic hair must also include immunity to split ends and other problems that would plague normal hair that hasn't been cut for 18 years.
* RescueRomance: Rapunzel and Flynn save each other several times and fall in love in between them.
* RomanceGenreHeroines: Rapunzel is an interesting mix between The Spunky Kid and The Free Spirit.
* RoyalBlood: In a switch from the fairy tale, where she isn't, and he is. It also a small part of the story since her non-royal magic hair is more important.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: With Flynn. She's excitedly running to and fro while he stands there and snarks at her naviety.
* SimpleYetOpulent: Her princess dress and wedding dress are both subtly royal.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: Of the Disney Princesses, she suffers more AmusingInjuries than any other.
* SpiritedYoungLady: She doesn't want to disobey Mother Gothel, but she's determined to get what she wants.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Between Rapunzel and her real mother, the queen. Especially at the end, when they're both brunette and the camera frames them reuniting, right down to the huge green eyes. Rapunzel and the Queen look so alike that ''she does not need to do anything else to show that she's the lost princess'', despite having a completely different hair color when she was a baby.
* SwissArmyTears: She heals Flynn with her tears, which was also in the source material.
* TearsOfRemorse: When she thinks they are going to drown, and it's all her fault, she's crying.
* TeensAreShort: Despite being 18, Rapunzel is shorter than most adults, including her ''real'' parents.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Among other activities, she knits and does laundry to distract herself when alone in the tower.
* TheyDo: Only in the narration -- but then, she cuts in to Flynn's narration for the first time.
* TraumaticHaircut: [[spoiler:Not only does she get the hair she's been growing out her whole life chopped off, losing it means she can't save Flynn's life.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Not that she was a wimp before, but after she meets Flynn, she just keeps on going from there. To go into great detail, Rapunzel starts out as a sweet but incredibly naive girl who lives in fear of breaking her darling "mother's" rules. At the end of the movie, [[spoiler:when she confronts Mother Gothel about kidnapping her as a baby]], Rapunzel stands up for herself and coldly says that Mother Gothel will never take advantage of her again, shoving Gothel away when she tries to rein Rapunzel in. [[spoiler:And when Gothel stabs Flynn and tries to kidnap Rapunzel away again, Rapunzel sets up a ''huge'' resistance, saying that she will ''never'' stop trying to escape unless Gothel lets her heal Flynn.]]
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: You'd think a girl with 70 feet of hair would get a bit more notice when she first strolls into town.
* YouAreGrounded: Rapunzel has been grounded into the tower her whole life and when she asks to go outside, Mother Gothel snaps and yells "You are not leaving this tower! EVER!"

EVER!"

!![[WesternAnimation/{{Brave}} Merida]]
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_brave-disneyscreencapscom-8104_9569.jpg]]

As the eldest child of King Fergus and Queen Elinor of [=DunBroch=], her life is weighted with responsibilities and expectations. When Merida blatantly defies an ancient tradition, the consequences of her actions prove disastrous for the kingdom--and especially when innocent bystanders end up affected. She races against time to make right the result of her reckless behavior, and mend the bond torn by pride.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KellyMacdonald
----
* ActionDressRip: During the archery contest. Not the skirt, but the back, shoulders and sleeves by flexing, which is realistic given the action in question.
* ActionGirl: When confronted with Mor'du, a monster of a bear, she notches an arrow and fires. In the climax, she gets the better of the three chiefs and her father in close combat.
* ArcherArchetype: {{Averted|Trope}}. Although she's certainly skilled with a bow and arrow, she's less calm and composed and more of a FieryRedhead.
* ArtShift: As with Rapunzel, Merida was given a 2D [[http://www.cartoonbrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/merida.jpg redesign]] in order to fit the Disney Princess franchise.
* {{Badass}}: How badass is Merida? Well, aside from using LoopholeAbuse to win the archery tournament for her own hand in marriage, climbing the Firefalls, facing Mor'du multiple times ''even when her arrows were having no effect'', and facing her own father in sword combat to protect her mother... she manages to sew a tapestry while galloping on horseback through a raging thunderstorm. She gets it from both parents.
* BadassBoast: "I'll be fighting for my own hand!"
* BadassFamily: Belongs to one.
* BadassPrincess: "A princess does not put her weapons on the table."
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She wanted to avoid marriage and is horrified at what happens when she finds a way. The three chiefs declare war on each other and her father because of it, and her mother is turned into a bear.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: Although she seems to favor the former, she's shown wielding the latter like a pro.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: A rare tomboy variant of this. Before CharacterDevelopment she comes off as a selfish, disrespectful, stubborn girl who insults her mother and refuses to admit her mistakes. She gets better over the course of the movie with Merida learning to be more mature and open minded, even regarding her relationship with her mother.
* BraveScot: She has the same valor as the ancient kings, and her father notes that drinking from the Fire Falls is a feat of the very brave.
* BreakTheHaughty: Her character development is letting go of her selfishness and growing up. So she irresponsibly made the wish of having her mother change, not expecting to take the first steps to grab her own destiny? Well, her dear mother and her brothers shall be transformed into bears, and Merida will have to fix up this big mess herself ''and'' learn that [[ComingOfAgeStory she must put some effort on being a better person, as well as able to forge her way in life]]!
* CassandraTruth: Her father doesn't believe in magic. Nor does he believe Merida when she tries to explain that the bear in the castle is actually [[spoiler:his wife.]]
* CelibateHeroine: She doesn't want to get married, and has no LoveInterest in the movie - a first for a Disney Princess. Though Young [=MacGuffin=] ''did'' get her attention, and she does look stunned when she thinks a strapping [[ConanTheBarbarian Conan]]-type is Dingwall's son.
* CharacterDevelopment: Merida goes from a selfish and stubborn child to a mature, level-headed young lady that now knows when to admit to her mistakes.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Drawing a bowstring is no mere effort. Hitting bullseye after bullseye with a bow isn't either. She can also tear a dress apart simply by flexing while wearing it, bend wrought-iron fireplace implements, and has enough strength to lock blades with her father when he was about to kill her ursified mother.
* CompressedHair: Merida wears a tight-fitting headdress as part of her royal attire, which must be a bother given the untamed mass of her hair.
* CoolBigSis: Her brothers only like their dad's story when ''she'' tells it. Especially notable for being the ''FIRST'' older sister in the entire princess franchise (Ariel's the youngest in her family, and it can be debatable whether or not Cinderella's step-siblings count--all the other princess' are only children).
* DaddysGirl: Gets along much better with Fergus than with Elinor because she doesn't want to be a ProperLady. [[spoiler:Merida and her mom become much closer by the end of the movie]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Often - a notable example is her exchanging quips with her father about the three suitors during the tournament.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler: She makes an incredibly vague spell request to a witch with an obvious bear obsession who initially refuses because of "too many unsatisfied customers".]]
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Merida's main motivation is based upon this trope. This is medieval Scotland, after all.
** Played with somewhat in that she's acknowledged what's coming, the issue came from that thought being shoved in her face ''all the time.''
-->'''Merida''': "...I'm just not ''ready''..."
* FieryRedhead: Headstrong, passionate, and with hair colored more like fire than the usual examples halfway down her back.
* GenreBlind: Appears to be completely ignorant of wish tropes beyond bare knowledge of the concept itself. She insists on getting the magic spell even though the Witch tries to talk her out of and ''explicitly says'' that she stopped doing it because it always goes badly.
* GirlinessUpgrade:
** Most dolls of Merida have her looking far more ladylike than she really is. The [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0yl7zR3E41r1wmszo1_500.jpg Disney store model]] is closer to the original, but the [[http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzb1trgGZq1r1wmszo1_500.jpg Mattel collection]] barely resembles her. This even extends to the tie-in toy archery sets; while the Disney Store's are a rather accurate replica of her bow, the ones available at other stores are ''purple''.
** Her appearance in the Disney Princess line has people debating over whether or not Merida is girlier, whether that's bad, whether it's overdone, etc. Detractors include Brenda Chapman, the first person assigned to direct the film.
* GorgeousPeriodDress: Although not as blatant as Elinor, the turquoise dress she's effectively forced into (by Elinor, naturally; see TrueBlueFemininity entry below) is the closest she gets. For most of the film her dresses of choice tend to be simpler but no less nice.
* HiddenDepths: The sequence where both Merida and her mother "talk to each other" shows that she's ''fully aware'' of the repercussions for her RebelliousPrincess attitude (namely that said action is an open invitation for a clan war), she's just genuinely uprepared emotionally for what she will eventually have to become and is at something of a loss for how she should go about it all.
* HorseArcher: Merida's contest of choice is archery because she is an ace with a bow and arrow. She can even hit a perfect bullseye while on horseback. She doesn't share the calmness and self-possession that usually comes with ArcherArchetype role, instead matching the untamed power of the horse.
* HotBlooded: She's more comfortable riding horesback and shooting at arrow targets then sitting at home and calmly discussing matters of state. It also bites her in the ass badly, as she decides to make a rash, open stand against her mother and tradition in such a way as to anger the lords and threaten to start a war.
* ImpracticallyFancyOutfit: Although not as blatant as Elinor, the turquoise dress she's effectively forced into would be extremely lovely if not for how uncomfortable it makes Merida. The dress she wears at the end of the movie, which is barely seen, is both elegant ''and'' practical.
* InTheHood: Hides her head on a few occasions with the hood of her cape.
* InnocentBlueEyes: More along the "youthful" and "inexperienced" categories than really "innocent".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's stubborn, rebellious, sarcastic, and rather self-centered...but underneath it all, she has a kind and heroic heart.
* LikeParentLikeChild: Merida has traits from both of her parents:
** Merida clearly has inherited her mother's stubbornness and pride ([[IResembleThatRemark contrary to Elinor's opinion]]). In the end, it turns out there's [[SilkHidingSteel badassery in her mother too]].
** From her father, Merida is very much a chip off the old block when it comes to her love of fighting, weapons, and woods exploration, and her overall badassery.
* LikeParentLikeSpouse: When she was presented with her potential husbands, she seemed quite interested in Young [=MacGuffin=] and, what she initially assumed was, Wee Dingwall. Both of whom were large and strong, just like her father.
* MessyHair: Normally her hair is loose and full instead of groomed like her mother.
* ModestRoyalty: Merida wears a loose dress and is always seen with a bow and arrow.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Her reaction when she realizes that her fate-changing spell has GoneHorriblyRight.
* MyNameIsInigoMontoya: "I am Merida! Firstborn descendant of the Clan [=DunBroch=], and I'll be shooting for my ''own'' hand!"
* NeverMyFault: For the majority of the film, Merida blames her mother, being given a BalefulPolymorph into a bear, on the witch who gave her her fate-changing spell, instead of acknowledging that she commited a huge mistake. [[CharacterDevelopment It's only at the end of the film after she believes she's lost her mother that she breaks down and says she's sorry]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The main conflict of the film is largely Merida's fault because she throws three bullseye into the bethroal tradition.
* OfCorsetHurts: At one point, Queen Elinor dresses Princess Merida up in a corset, and Merida complains that she can't breathe. What's really odd about all this is that the movie takes place in Medieval Scotland, and corsets shouldn't exist yet.
* OfficialCouple: Averted. Merida's the first Franchise/DisneyPrincess to not have a love interest.
* OutdoorsyGal: Horseback riding, cliff climbing, etc. Notable amongst the Disney Princess line in that she has the opportunity for a comfortable, indoors life but chooses against it. The only other example is Pocahontas, who naturally enjoys nature.
* OutnumberedSibling: One daughter versus three sons.
* PluckyGirl: Her mother transforming into a bear was a shock but quickly made a {{plan}} for keeping her safe and fixing the problem.
* PoliticallyActivePrincess: King Fergus and the Scottish lords on the verge of war when Princess Merida brings the four factions back together and declares that one should choose who he marries according to his heart. Her suitors agree, stating that their arranged marriage was their fathers' idea. Thus, the clan leaders agree that their sons must win Merida's heart before winning her hand.
* PrettyInMink: [[http://pixar.wikia.com/File:EpilogueDress6.jpg She has a hooded brown fur cape.]]
* QuirkyCurls: Yet another contrast with her mother who has two smooth, perfect plaits.
* RapunzelHair: It goes down to her hips, even being incredibly curly. Likely it would be as long as her mother's if straightened out.
* RebelliousPrincess: Deconstructed; Merida's particular brand of rebellion instigates the beginnings of a clan war and nearly gets her mother killed. Contrast with Princess Jasmine, who shares the same attitude of "I don't want to be a princess if I have to have my life dictated", but whose actions (like attacking foreign princes) never have consequences beyond making her endearing.

* RedHeadedHeroine: It's a family trait. Her equally red haired father is stated to be the HeroOfAnotherStory.
* ScrewDestiny: ZigZagged--Merida wants to change her fate, and while it has unexpected consequences, and it seems as if she's punished for it, the will-o'-the-wisps are leading her on a path to fight her destiny...meaning it might be her destiny to change her destiny.
* SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou: Well "Merida Is About to Shoot You". The first released image was of [[http://www.geekforcefive.com/images/uploads/pixar-brave_610.jpg Merida aiming a bow right at the camera.]] She does the same against a bear in the trailer.
%%* SimpleYetOpulent: The blue dress she is forced into.
* SplittingTheArrow: Merida is a damned good shot in archery; hitting three bulls-eyes in a row and splitting the other guy's arrow on the third with so much force it breaks ''through'' the back of the target. She considers herself the winner of the contest for her hand.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: With the exception of having her dad's hair and eye colors, she looks identical to her mother (just younger).
* TakeAThirdOption: She doesn't want to marry but she's intelligent enough to know that just cancelling the games will mortally offend the other clans ("We'll expect your declarations of war in the morning!"). Thus she decides to enter the games ''herself''. This winds up with the same result and she then has to talk the clans into not fighting each other.
* TeensAreShort: She's sixteen and is still shorter than her mother.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Elinor's GirlyGirl; the contrast is the conflict.
* TomboyPrincess: This is the root of the conflict with her mother; she hates the courtly education Elinor gives her and doesn't want to marry. She just wants to ride horses and practice archery.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Elinor tries to [[InvokedTrope invoke this trope]] by putting Merida in a more ladylike turquoise dress. The end of the movie sees both Elinor and Merida in a dress of a similar shade, indicating that they've accepted each other's differences and similarities.
* UnkemptBeauty: She doesn't need her mother's courtly help to be attractive.
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: {{Implied}} when Merida returns home and tells her family of her adventure of climbing the Fire Falls. Notice that she asked her mother first about what she had done that day. She was visibly disappointed that her mother didn't hear of her accomplishments..
* WildHair: It's wild because she spends so much time on a horse.
* WomenPreferStrongMen: Heavily implied when she's introduced to her suitors. When she meets the Young [=MacGuffin=], the biggest, she doesn't look all that annoyed. Then, notice her "awe" reaction to Young Dingwall, who turned out not be him. [[spoiler: There's also the fact that, originally, she was going to choose the ''very'' huge and muscular, Young [=MacGuffin=].]]
* YouthfulFreckles: For emphasis on the 'growing youth' aspect. She doesn't want to be a queen.

* TookALevelInBadass: Not that she was a wimp before, but after she meets Flynn, she just keeps on going from there. To go into great detail, Rapunzel starts out as a sweet but incredibly naive girl who lives in fear of breaking her darling "mother's" rules.
