* InternalAffairs: Operating as this to Colonel Ma's division after the Germans got solid proof they had been compromised by PLA espionage.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: His suspicions about Feng jump up after it's revealed she knew about the existence of Annenheim Distribution, a PLA shell corporation that was supposed to be above her paygrade.

Has the biggest bust of the prominent female characters at a whopping ''K'', yet is the weakest female in the cast. * ButtMonkey: Her first time in Roanapur sucked incredibly hard. Her colleage gets shot and she has to run from a cartel. Jane goes to the Ripoff Church for sanctuary, and gets [[CaptainObvious ripped off]] by Eda. Eda then betrays her to many contract killers to get more money. Jane gets a little rest in a bad motel, then gets chased by a [[CarnivalofKillers bunch of madmen]] the rest of the night. And Eda kept extorting more and more cash from the unfortunate sod, too.

Though she didn't think about the possible consequences about letting her colleague, who had probably never been to Thailand, come from Bangkok to Roanapur BY HERSELF. Later on it's revealed that she planned from the beginning [[spoiler:to betray that colleague anyway]], it means she probably just didn't care.
* PairTheSmartOnes: With Benny, Lagoon's hacker-man. [[GeekyTurnOn She once said watching him work turned her on.]]

An US Army Major, and commander of the ISA black-ops unit "Gray Fox" under orders of the NSA - Caxton, like Dutch (supposedly...) is a Vietnam War veteran who has seen the ugly face of both sides, and as a result developed his own moral code and sense of honor, a trait that earns him the absolute respect and obedience of his men.

Due to the accidental death of Diego Lovelace during a political assassination for which his unit was responsible for, he unwittingly made an enemy out of Roberta - who effectively declared war on him and the entire NSA. With his next assignment being the capture of Shue Yan, an opium harvester located in the Golden Triangle, Caxton and his men were temporarily stationed in Roanapur to await further orders - and giving Roberta a nice scent. This put '''all''' of Roanapur on edge; the Triads, Hotel Moscow, and especially the Cartel given their previous history with her. The [[spoiler:CIA]] too gets involved, due to having a nice fat stake in the opium trade - effectively making the whole ordeal a giant pissing match between the two organizations. As Caxton puts it, he just walked into a "gigantic clusterfuck."

* AchillesHeel: His is the fact that he's a FriendToAllChildren. While it made him a badass during Nam, nowadays it just serves to paint a target on his back - much to the dismay of his men.
* AffablyEvil: To the point where he can ''hardly'' qualify as "evil" at all. He's one of the only few genuinely decent people in the entire series.
* TheAtoner: The moment he realizes that he's unwittingly responsible for destroying Garcia's family and driving Roberta insane, he aims to do right by it - to the point where he even hands Garcia a gun to shoot him if it'll satisfy him.
* {{Badass}}: [[BadassArmy While he didn't do it all by himself]], his men were ultimately responsible for shooting up [[OneManArmy Roberta]] to the point where she's now a cripple (but just in the OVA). Even ''Balalaika'' gives him the highest of praise for his skills.
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler:Together with Rock and Garcia, he orchestrated temporarily faking his death to help Roberta snap back to reality AND capture Shue Yan.]]

They both went out of their way to save a child and were put in less than desirable situations as a result: Shane now operates assassinations and other wet-work assignments for the NSA, and Balalaika was discharged (the Soviet Union collapsed almost immediately afterwards anyway). The only difference is, Shane held onto his ideals and still had a place to call home, even if it's not what it used to be. Balalaika on the other hand had ''nothing'' but her men - the only place she could remotely call a home was the [[TheMafiya Russian mafia]] - remnants of the KGB and GRU.
* FriendToAllChildren: Single-handedly defended a little girl during the Vietnam War ''from his own men'', and current-day went out of his way to keep Garcia safe.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:It can be assumed that he quit working for the United States as he's seen with Roberta and Garcia at the end.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: Another one of his flaws. During Nam, he went up against his ''entire'' unit to protect a little Vietnamese girl from getting raped. He also nearly got shot by Garcia due to this.
* NiceGuy: One of the only few genuinely good people in this fucked up world.

A handsome, long-coated adventurer introduced during the Greenback Jane arc, he is one of the few survivors of the band of mercenaries hunting for Jane. He now lives with the other two, Shenhua and Sawyer the Cleaner.

* AntiVillain: He's one of the nicest people in the show, and is only really antagonistic from the viewpoint of the protagonists (and even then, only in his first appearance).
* BadassLongcoat: Averted. While he does carry a [[CoolGuns Cool Gun]] (a Mauser C96), CoolShades and wears a BadassLongcoat, his first appearance in an action scene ended with him being shot off of a rooftop before he could finish his InTheNameOfTheMoon speech. It hasn't gotten any better for him since.
* BigEntrance: Has an obsession with this that's PlayedForLaughs.
* {{Bishonen}}: His excessive good looks lead Revy to first assume he's Shenhua's "man-whore".
* CoolGun: His twin Mauser C96s; the so-called "Broomhandle" Mauser which was used as the basis for [[Franchise/StarWars Han Solo's]] blaster.
* CoolShades: He ''tries'' to look cool with these, but fails.
* CrazyPrepared: He might not be all that bright, but he has a BulletproofVest unlike the rest of the CarnivalOfKillers and [[BallsOfSteel metal armor for his groin]], which helped save his balls when Roberta [[GroinAttack kicked them]].
* DrinkOrder: Milk, since he CantHoldHisLiquor.
* TheDulcineaEffect: "There's no way I can just ignore an injured girl and let her die."
* TheFool: One the one hand, he seems to be a complete ''idiot'', what with his obsession with being "cool" leading him to trying to deliberately invoke shonen style actions that just cause him to get shot at. On the other hand, he also manages to survive by having the common sense to do things like wear body armor, and even saves Sawyer and Shenhua from Roberta by intervening at the right time and allowing her to beat him up.
* GunsAkimbo: With two Broomhandle Mausers, except he didn´t get to use them onscreen yet.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Sort of. He saves both [[PsychoForHire Shenhua]] and [[TheButcher Sawyer]], but given the CrapsackWorld setting of this series, both seem pretty nice--they then became semi-loyal allies instead of [[TheFarmerAndTheViper killing him immediately thereafter.]] Yes, they'll kill anyone if the price is right, but if that's the worst thing about you in [[WretchedHive Roanapur]], you can't be ''that'' bad, so he may have actually been on point with this one.
* InTheNameOfTheMoon: Is very fond of pre-battle speeches. ''Manga/BlackLagoon'' being the kind of show that it is, it doesn't do him much good.
* JokeCharacter: He deliberately acts like a shonen action hero. In Roanapur. He pretty much never gets to do anything in battle because people shoot him down whilst he's posturing and/or monologuing.
* LargeHam: Mostly thanks to his tendency to deliver InTheNameOfTheMoon speeches at the drop of a hat.
* MadeOfIron: Played with. Even when he's shot, falling down from a building or being [[GroinAttack kicked in the balls]] (by Roberta of all people!), he just rises up again and continues on. Luckily, he's smart enough to wear a bulletproof vest and a metal codpiece, though he got kicked so hard that the codpiece ''dented'', and still fell from a rooftop onto solid asphalt. In general he takes far more punishment than most people could handle.
* MeaningfulName: The alternate translation of his name qualifies; his name is Rotton, pronounced "rotten", and he's [[IncrediblyLamePun an absolutely rotten gunslinger]].
* NiceGuy: Now that Rock no longer qualifies for this trope, he is the sole possessor of it in Roanapur.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Rotton? Lotton? The North American translation says its Lotton while most of the scanlations says its Rotton...
* TokenGoodTeammate:
** Compared to his fellow bounty hunters, who are either complete psychopaths at worst and a bunch of backstabbing cutthroats at best.
** Also of the PowerTrio he's formed with Shenhua and Sawyer. One's a gleefully violent assassin, the other is a macabre "cleaner" who hacks up living people and corpses alike with total aplomb. And then there's Lotton, who deliberately runs on idealistic action hero tropes.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Inverted. He's the whitest haired and nicest character in the series.
* WideEyedIdealist: And judging by how disconnected from the harsh realities of life he is, it's going to take a lot more to break him than it did to break Rock.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Lotton acts like he came from a more idealistic series. Even Rock has become more savvy to the way the world works than he has. But at least the guy who behaves like he's got PlotArmor is savvy enough to wear ''actual'' armor.

* AxCrazy: Sawyer loved chopping up people with her chainsaw so much that she became a professional cleaner so she could slice up all the unfortunate people that pissed off the different mafia groups in Roanapur.
* BadassAdorable: She's capable of fighting people with her chainsaw, to the point she can actually ''deflect bullets with it'', but at the same time, she's a surprisingly cute, even vulnerable-looking goth-girl.
* TheButcher: It's even her legitimate career, to hide her job as a body-cleaner, torturer-for-hire, and amateur bounty hunter.
* ChainsawGood: So good in fact that she can use it to ''deflect bullets''.
* CleanupCrew: Everybody brings their garbage to her, be it dead or still moving.
* CreepyMonotone: She has one of these whenever she uses her artificial voice box to communicate.
* CuteBruiser: A cute goth girl, but quite capable of beating the hell out of anyone, and won't think twice about slaughtering her way through a melee with her chainsaw.
* CuteMute: Downplayed; while she is cute in a goth-punk sort of way and does appear to be missing her vocal cords, she can be quite mouthy when she has her electrolarynx device.
* DissonantSerenity: She's quite cheerful; at one point [[spoiler: when she's explaining that the bad odor in a hotel room results from the ooze from rotted corpses she had to clean up there earlier]] she smiles happily while all around her, people are losing their lunch, and may in fact be giggling ''because'' the others are losing their lunch.
* EarnYourTitle: Sawyer "The Cleaner": she cleans up messes, specializing in body disposal, and the bodies being alive or dead doesn't matter to her.

With his next assignment being the capture of Shue Yan, an opium harvester located in the Golden Triangle, Caxton and his men were temporarily stationed in Roanapur to await further orders - and giving Roberta a nice scent. This put '''all''' of Roanapur on edge; the Triads, Hotel Moscow, and especially the Cartel given their previous history with her. Predictably, he loses badly, gets cut up, and is finally finished off by drowning. From what we've seen of him, he [[KarmicDeath deserved]] every single thing that came to him.

To be fair, he was far enough from Roanapur and low enough on the food chain that he probably had absolutely no clue who he was messing with, but when you have that cavalier an attitude when dealing with someone as dangerous as her ''even'' when you're confronted with tons of evidence that you are in way over your head, anything that happens to you is definitely your fault.
* NotWorthKilling: Why Revy refused to fight him and turned him over to Ginji instead. She was fully aware that he had absolutely no chance of surviving a fight against either of them, but whereas Ginji had a case of ItsPersonal with him, he was just a loser in way over his head as far as Revy was concerned.
* PsychoForHire: An idiot, but psycho nonetheless that works for the Yakuza.
* PsychopathicManchild: He's a blood-crazed moron who functions roughly on the same level as an adrenaline-fueled teenager.

The cracks start to appear when Rock snatches his hostage from right under his nose, leading him to shoot his own henchmen in the back when they try to abandon him. Things get worse when he challenges Revy to a duel, only for her to dropkick him in the face and declare him NotWorthKilling. Finally, when Ginji [[spoiler: chops off his hands and knocks him into a swimming pool to drown]], he's reduced to thrashing around and shrieking impotent death threats.
