This proved prophetic for Tyene's own lightly mocking personality, and even her facade of being only a gentle, proper lady as a cover for her conniving true personality, like House Tyrell's women.

* PassiveAggressiveKombat: While her sisters Obara and Nymeria are about as subtle as two-by-fours in [[spoiler:wanting vengeance for their father's death]], Tyene prefers the more veiled approach that still makes it clear she feels the same.

* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Her first appearance in ''A Feast for Crows'' shows her embroidering an image of her father wearing red armor and astride a sand steed, to give to her uncle Doran [[StealthInsult "to help you remember him."]]

* AnimalMotif: Their father was known as the Red Viper, and very fittingly they're called the Sand Snakes. Despite the fact that they mostly don't look like each other, they all have in common their father's "viper" eyes. Their personality is also not to be underestimate, since they are HotBlooded and vengeful. [[spoiler: Also, snakes are sneaky by nature, and they are literally sneaking around Westeros to gain useful information for their uncle Doran.]]

Save for the North, there's a Sand Snake in almost every major plot of the later books.]]

Obara definitely [[DaddysGirl prefers her father]] to her mother since she preferred to take the spear and go with him (a stranger who might not have even been her father for all she knew) to Dorne which she'd never been to before, leaving behind the crying mother she'd known all her life. As an adult she shows no outward signs of sadness about her mother's death and also ''hates'' Oldtown where her mother lived and died, enough to be looking to start a war with the crown as an excuse to destroy it. Though as one can only assume from the unattractive looks Obara got from her mother that her mother probably didn't work for a ''particularly'' upscale brothel, it may be that she hated living there [[FreudianExcuse for other reasons than her mother]].
