** Reggie's promise rang true at NWC 2015. The announcers, segwaying into the Smash Bros round, realize that the two haven't had their match yet... The crowd is hyped beyond belief, and... [[folder:Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo [=3DS/Wii U=]]]
* With new fighters comes new Final Smashes! And a few veterans get new Final Smashes as well!
** Ultra Sword: Kirby uses the titular Super Ability to cleave his opponents, before his sword grows bigger for one final blow.
** Poltergust 5000: Luigi dons his handy vacuum and sucks any fighters (and items) within his vicinity before shooting them into the sky. It can also shoot out certain items as well.
** Doctor Finale: Dr. Mario launches two streams of large Megavitamins than knock his opponents backwards, similar to the Mario Finale.
** Psystrike: Mewtwo Mega Evolves into Mega Mewtwo Y and throws a sphere of dark energy. If opponents are caught, they are frozen in place before being struck by a psychic attack.
** Critical Hit: Roy spins the Binding Blade before sweeping it downwards. Aside from that, this version of the Final Smash functions similarly to Marth and Lucina's, but with an added fire effect.
** Three Sacred Treasures: Pit equips the Mirror Shield, Arrow of Light, and Wings of Pegasus before launching a barrage of attacks that cover the entire playing field.
** Gunship: Zero Suit Samus goes into her gunship and fires a laser that can trail her opponents.
** Mega Charizard X: Charizard Mega Evolves and proceeds to launch fireballs and ram into opponents at high speeds.
** Dedede Burst: King Dedede inhales his opponents near him and proceeds to pummel them with a trio of hammer strikes before hurling a giant bomb at them.
** Mega Lucario: Lucario Mega Evolves, increasing all of his stats, in a way similar to Wario-Man. [[CallingYourAttacks "MAX]] [[MostWonderfulSound AURA!"]]
** Super Diffusion Beam: R.O.B. transforms into a laser cannon and shoots a deadly beam that can trap his opponents. Said beam then splits into four angled ones. R.O.B. then fires one final burst that launches his victims.
** Dream Home: Villager hires the Nooks to build a house that traps their foes. The house then proceeds to ''[[StuffBlowingUp explode]]'' (not before we get to hear the Debt Paid jingle!) with the opponents inside!
** Mega Legends: Mega Man launches a Black Hole Bomb at his opponents. Should one get caught, Mega Man summons Videogame/MegaManX, [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends Mega Man Volnutt]], [[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork MegaMan.EXE]], and [[VideoGame/MegaManStarForce Geo Stelar]] to launch a combination laser attack. ''Ultimate'' adds Proto Man and Bass to the Final Smash.
** Wii Fit: Wii Fit Trainer forms a yoga pose and launches a bevy of yoga silhouettes to attack opponents.
** Power Star: Rosalina summons a giant Power Star that launches several smaller stars before exploding.
** Giga Mac: Little Mac transforms into his more monstrous state from the multiplayer mode of the Wii's ''Punch-Out!!'' and gains improved attack power.
** Secret Ninja Attack: Greninja uses Mat Block on his foes before doing a series of slashes in front of the full moon before spiking his opponents.
** Omega Blitz: Mii Brawler uppercuts his opponents before punching and kicking them repeatedly in-air, culminating in a trio of spin-kicks.
** Final Edge: Mii Swordsfighter launches a wave of [[SwordBeam shock waves]] in the direction they desire.
** Full Blase: Mii Gunner launches a giant beam that can be controlled up or down, pushing back opponents caught in it.
** Black Hole Laser: Palutena draws opponents into a Black Hole, before firing a Mega Laser to those in it.
** Dark Pit Staff: Dark Pit launches a wave of energy from his staff with hit opponents being seen in BulletTime, similar to the Light Arrow.
** Super Pac-Man: Pac-Man eats a Power Pellet and Super Pellet, then transforms into a large version of his 2D sprite. Pac-Man can then move around the screen horizontally, vertically, left or right and chomp at his opponents. As an added bonus, those knocked back can be seen with the ghost eyes that appear whenever Pac-Man eats a ghost in his own game!
** Pair Up: Robin calls forth Chrom, and any opponent he hits will be caught in a wave of attacks by the two before they simultaneously spike their opponent.
** Chain Attack: Shulk calls Dunban and Riki, and attack their opponent before Shulk performs one last blow. Fiora would join in on the fun in ''Ultimate''.
** Shadow Mario Paint: Bowser Jr. transforms into Shadow Mario and paints a big "X" that covers the screen. Opponents take damage by touching the "X". Eventually, the "X" detonates. This is the only Final Smash that enemies are unable to avoid damage from, as the "X" covers the screen right away.
** NES Zapper Posse: Duck Hunt calls in a flock of ducks that spirit their opponents away to a showdown between the cowboys of Wild Gunman and gangsters of Hogan's Alley... ''with them caught in the crossfire!'' All while the Duck Hunt Dog laughs at their misfortune.
** Shinku Hadoken & Shin Shoryuken: Ryu's Final Smash is unique in that it has two different forms. If any opponents are far away from him, Ryu launches a huge Hadoken at them. However, if an opponent is within his range, Ryu unleashes a three hit combo ending with a lethal Shoryuken. If there's an orange backdrop behind Ryu, that means the moved KO'd his opponents--just like in his own series!
** Omnislash: Cloud attacks with his Buster Sword, catching his opponents within. He then does a series of rapid slashes before slamming his opponent into the ground so intensely that it causes an explosion!
** Torrential Roar: Corrin transforms into his/her dragon form, transporting his opponents into a mountinous area, then launching a ''huge whirlpool'' at them that sends them flying!
** Infernal Climax: Bayonetta enters Witch Time, giving her a limited amount of time to rack up damage to her opponents to fill the Climax Gauge. If enough damage is done and the opponent gets hit with a knockback attack, Bayo summons Gomorrah, who ''devours her opponents!'' And if any victim has 100+% damage, it's an instant KO!
* After years of waiting- a fan requested favorite finally joins the roster... Heading for the Wii U and 3DS release, is none other than: [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Mega MAN]]!!! In his original form, packing all kinds of heat.
** It's one of the best intro videos. In the beginning, he silhouetted to the point that you can't tell who he is at first...till the helmet appears. He then starts beating up the other characters, but takes quite a lot of damage. [[LetsGetDangerous Then he gets serious]]. Mario has an "OH CRAP" look as he matrix dodges the Metal Blades and Link gets a similar one before having an mix between, "Holy shit" and "What the hell just happened?"
** Not to mention the background music being remixes of Mega Man 2's [[AwesomeMusic/MegaMan legendary title theme and Wily Castle music]].
** Special mention to the finisher from Mega Man's HeroicSecondWind sequence (set to the aforementioned Wily's Castle theme) where Mega Man slams [[GunsAkimbo both of his]] [[ArmCannon Arm Cannons]] into the ground before sending Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, and Kirby flying with [[PlayingWithFire Flame]] [[StuffBlowingUp Blast]].
** The crowd reaction at E3 when Rock appeared on the screen was unanimous: the masses ''roared'' their approval.
** Just watch his trailer [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmCVzjGVFy4 here.]] It's awesomeness objectified.
** Website/YouTube "Super Smash Bros. 4 Mega Man reaction" (or like variant). Pick a movie. Unless the audio feed is desynchronized, everyone's reaction is more or less as follows:

* Sakurai himself gets one for implementing the Wii Fit Trainer. He specifically wanted an UnexpectedCharacter, and ''boy'' did he succeed. Then for the Trainer herself, she oneshots Kirby, Link, ''and'' Mario at the same time in her debut trailer.
* The old red biplane from ''Pilotwings'' and the new seaplane from ''Wii Sports Resort'' in flight together is pretty epic. It represents two generations of Nintendo in one place!
* SonicTheHedgehog [[http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/sonic.html has been confirmed to be returning]]. Know what this means? Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man, three of the most well-known platforming icons, ''are all going to be starring in the same game.''
** His introductory video, while maybe not as WOW-tastic as either [=MegaMan=]'s or his own for Brawl, does a good job with keeping the suspense in its first moments as the other two did. We see Mario and Mega Man fighting in Battlefield... [[TheWorfEffect only to get hit]] by Sonic's [[http://www.ssbwiki.com/Stall-then-fall downward A aerial attack.]] Cue [[AwesomeMusic/SonicTheHedgehog the main theme from]] ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'' kicking in as we see Sonic kicking ass, while also revealing that his home stage in the UsefulNotes/WiiU version of the game is none other than ''[[VideoGame/SonicLostWorld Windy Hill Zone]]''.
* Little Mac's reveal trailer, showing him in an TrainingMontage with a beautiful art style much like a comic book (It seems someone on the dev team is a ''big'' fan of ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure'', the art is very similar to the Jojo anime). And when Samus mocks him for his height, well... Say hello to the Star Punch. It says a lot when you make ''skip-rope'' [[MundaneMadeAwesome look awesome]].
* Rosalina's reveal trailer is just made of all kinds of awesome. First off, the lovingly rendered '''Rainbow Road''' appears in the trailer, because why the hell not? The karts are racing, when Kirby suddenly blows right past them on his Warp Star, showing just how much Kirby deserves to be a DLC in VideoGame/MarioKart8. But then the trailer pans over to one of the star gates that Mario uses in the ''Galaxy'' games and a beam of light powers through it. It cuts Kirby off and sends him crashing to the Rainbow Road, but then a smaller comet breaks off from the big one...and a Luma comes down to make sure they didn't hurt Kirby. The racers finally catch up and stop as the Luma turns and runs back....to Rosalina. Disney, take notes here, Nintendo manages to make sparkly princess eyes look badass. Then, after the trailer goes through the customary clips of the new character, we're treated to ''Kirby and the Luma dancing together.'' Because obviously this trailer hadn't been awesome enough already.
* '''April 8th, 2014 Smash Bros Direct.'''
** First off, you thought one Mega Man was enough? His Final Smash will have ''five''. [[VideoGame/MegaManX X]], [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends Volnutt]], [[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork .EXE]], and [[VideoGame/MegaManStarForce Geo]] all appear to fire a unified [[ChargedAttack Charge Shot]] with the original.
** Villager's Final Smash involves asking Tom Nook to make a house to encase the opponent....and then it explodes!
** Online play has changed for the better. Remember when you had to play in Final Destination? '''Every stage''' has a Final Destination mode, breaking up the monotony of the same stage over and over. Plus there are two modes now: For Fun and For Glory, with For Fun being items-on, no-Final-Destination, wins-only recorded, and For Glory being items-off, only-Final-Destination, wins-and-losses recorded.
** Assist Trophies. Dark Samus, Midna, Chain Chomp and Elec Man are coming in! Oh and Pong, apparently.
*** Speaking of Assist, remember [[VideoGame/TheLegendaryStarfy Starfy]], [[TheScrappy the most puniest of them all from the last game??]] [[https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3745/13729192855_71876f3c63_b.jpg Well it appears]] he's being [[TookALevelInBadass buffed]] for [[ThrowTheDogABone this outing of Smash Bros!]]
** Items include Bombchus and Firebars!
*** The press kit album reveals even more fan-favourites and returnees, such as Super Leaf, Blue Shell, Beehive from Animal Crossing, Drill Arm...
** Afraid Zero Suit Samus and Sheik got lost in the shuffle? Nope! They're ''separate characters!''
** Poké-balls come in two flavor: regular and Master Ball. Master Ball will have all sorts of legendaries from Victini, Kyurem to '''[[TheMaker Arceus]]''' itself.
** And last, returning and newcomer characters. The setting is a desolate desert and it rains Pokéballs, showing the various mons coming in. Then Pikachu is on a cliffside watching, when Charizard appears. Then after a humongous fight with many of the veterans, who appears but Greninja, a Gen VI Pokémon. Oh and Charizard is packing heat with Mega Evolution X.
*** During this reveal, an individual one goes to Mario. While the rest of the smashers fighting Charizard used ranged attacks, Mario decided to show some serious balls and just take the overgrown salamander on mano y mano.
*** Just as Mario and Charizard are about to collide into a fiery explosion, a giant water shuriken cuts them off. Cut to Greninja standing [[BadassArmFold epically]] on a tree branch. Then after some cool ninja posing, he blasts off into the sky.
** It's a subtle one, but in the first shot of the Smash Run reveal, the first enemies seen are Kremlings. You know, those guys DK hasn't fought in years. Maybe Sakurai has plans for their leader...
*** It's even awesomer that Kremings and Tikis fight alongside each other.
** Bowser and Yoshi have been shown walking far more upright than they have in earlier games. This is especially good for Bowser, who now has a badass running animation as opposed to... whatever he was doing in Brawl and Melee.
* E3 2014, and we have an animated cutscene of Link and Pit fighting against one another. Just as Link is about to blow Pit away with the Gale Boomerang, a barrier emerges. Palutena descends from the sky. Pit is confused... until Palutena uses her magic to send Pit flying. Then she says...
-->'''Palutena:''' "Oh I'm not here to save you Pit..."
-->'''Palutena Alights!'''
-->'''Palutena:''' "I'm here for a little... uh, [[BlatantLies Divine Intervention]]"
** Also you gotta give points to Link; even after Palutena revealed her place in the battlefield, Link doesn't back down, he openly accepts the goddess' challenge.
** This is also the first time Link has been animated without being an out-of-character [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfZelda goof]][[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDiGames ball]].
** In her trailer, Palutena uses her Lightweight power to move faster than ''Sonic'', the fastest thing alive. She's not quite that quick in-game, but still.
** And at the end of her trailer, Dark Pit's little cameo. Especially since he technically CAME from Smash in the first place. That, and foreshadowing he's a playable character alongside Pit and Palutena.
** More E3 goodness with the Mii Fighters. How do you promote them? Well, how about making Iwata and Reggie ''fight each other?''
*** This is either the most awesomely stupid thing ever or the most ridiculously bad-ass thing ever.
*** ''[[MemeticMutation Reggie's body really was ready...]]''
* ''VideoGame/PacMan has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYQFy4flXfU joined the battle!]]'' This also means that Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man will be ''playable together in the same game.''
** How was Pac-Man "officially" inducted into Smash Bros., that fateful roundtable? [[CurbStompBattle By taking Mario, Sonic and Mega Man down at the same time while helmed by Sakurai himself, ending about as gloriously as you might expect.]]
* Sakurai revealed [[https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAADMUKl3TMQjFQ this particular curveball]]. Yes, that is a VideoGame/{{Rayman}} trophy, [[MindScrew revealed entirely casually like it's no big deal]]. Third Party characters will now be represented as trophies.
* Sakurai threw another curveball with the July 2014 character reveal trailer. Everyone thought that Chrom from ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'' was a shoo-in, and he even showed up in the trailer. However, ''two'' characters from ''Awakening'' were unveiled: Robin and Lucina. Made even more surprising in that Chrom is part of a Final Smash instead of a playable character.
** You can also play as a female Robin as well.
** Captain Falcon in the same trailer deserves a mention. It's implied that he single-handedly took down Chrom and was handing Lucina her rear until Robin showed up. Even then, it appears that he was able to fight pretty evenly with him.
*** He got a lot more fanfare than some other returning characters, really. While other veterans were reintroduced with some screenshots, Captain Falcon got an animated trailer in which he beats up one of the newcomers. The SSB team seems well aware of Falcon's status as an [[MemeticBadass internet legend]].
*** Even the way he fights Lucina deserves note. He's a hand-to-hand fighter taking on a swordswoman. However, he controls the flow of the fight regardless, throwing off Lucina by nearly hitting her head, and when she tries to stab at him, he casually parries the blade with his hand, knocks her off-balance by kicking her sword hand, and would have finished her off with a Falcon Punch had Robin not interrupted. That build of his certainly is ''not'' just for show, his reputation as a BadassNormal bounty hunter in his own series seems a lot more believable with those kinds of martial arts.
** Even if Chrom isn't playable, his fans can at least look forward to seeing him in Robin's Final Smash!
-->'''Chrom''': ''I suppose I'll get my chance... another day...''
-->'''[[LimitBreak No, you'll get it today.]]'''
---> Additionally, he makes a cameo at Palutena's Temple in one of Pit's conversations.
** Robin's introduction deserves mention. He ''starts'' by pulling a BigDamnHeroes moment, blasting Captain Falcon out of the way right as he's about to KO Lucina. The screen pans up to show him floating in the air, hooded and smirking, [[BookSnap as he snaps his tome shut]]. He lands on the ground between them, lowers his hood, and pulls out his Levin Sword, crackling with electricity, as he calmly proclaims that he's going to turn things around right now.
* [[VideoGame/{{Xenoblade}} Shulk's]] accomplishments during [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUl1EkUJ46k his reveal trailer]] involve blasting an unsuspecting Bowser away with a well-timed Back Slash, and preventing his psychic vision of Link and Marth doing the same to him by fighting them both off singlehandedly!
** TheStinger. You can ''feel'' the awesome radiating as Shulk prepares to fight Metal Face.
--> "''Fancy meeting'' you ''here, Monado Boy!"''
* Master Hand's introduction when he's fought solo. GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger never looked so badass.
* What better way to kick off the fight against Master Hand and Crazy Hand than with a [[https://33.media.tumblr.com/692420fd6401826c5ad8b326f26ee253/tumblr_nc1yqluVuz1qd9g7oo1_500.png brofist]]?
* Master Core, the true final boss of Classic Mode. Crazy Hand explodes, and Master Hand is ripped apart from within to create a giant shadow monster. This boss has ''five'' separate forms, making for a very challenging boss. These five forms include a creature that throws the stage around, a giant scorpion, five black swords, a doppelganger of the player and a WombLevel.
* Of all things, the inclusion of VideoGame/DuckHunt Duo! Now, we finally have the chance to beat the living shit out of [[TheScrappy that bloody mutt!]]
** Meanwhile, if he's RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap for you, he manages to be a hilarious {{Troll}} character, with no fewer than ''four'' references to his signature laugh: his intro, a taunt, a victory animation, and in classic pixelated form from the side lines when he traps you in the gun duel of his Final Smash.
** The fact that they managed to save one of the oldest and most infamous Scrappies in gaming from the Scrappy heap.
** His trailer has him being challenged by Nintendo's classics, namely Mario, DK, Bowser, Samus, Link and Pit. You can really feel the tension created.
* The fact that Nintendo and Namco-Bandai were able to finally make a roster that was genuinely balanced is amazing in and of itself.
* For the longest time, Smash fans have wondered an ongoing mystery of the series: [[spoiler: just what ''is'' the "body" of Master Hand and Crazy Hand?]] Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS delivers [[spoiler: in a truly fantastic and menacing final boss,]] and it does ''not'' disappoint.
* After years and years of musical cameos, [[VideoGame/MOTHER1 Ninten]] and his game ''finally'' get some proper representation as an installment in the MOTHER series with a stage based off of [[spoiler: Maria's]] Magicant and a cameo in the background.
* Take a look at the Intensity scale before beginning Classic Mode for the 3DS version. The top screen features Mario (regardless of the character you chose) going up against a spectral creature that changes its shape depending on the level of intensity (from a scale of 0.0 to 9.0). The higher the intensity, the more monstrous, fierce, and larger it becomes. This is where Mario's reaction to the creature comes in.
** At an Intensity of 0.0 to 5.9, it goes from Mario not being too concern about the creature to taking a battle stance, as he becomes more wary of it. [[OhCrap He is visibly frightened]] from 5.9 to 6.8, but despite still being scared at 6.9, he stands strong. From 7.0 onward, he becomes [[{{Determinator}} more and more determined]] to take on the challenge, as 9.0 shows him ''leaping'' at this hideous monstrosity, knowing now that it's all or nothing.
** The background from 0.0 to 7.9 goes from a tiny fort, to a large fortress, to a ''series'' of increasingly larger fortresses. For 8.0 and beyond, it ditches those for an otherworldly mess of floating squares with a tiny ledge for Mario to stand on, and by 9.0, the ledge is ''gone''. Meanwhile, the treasures become increasingly vast, becoming an ever-flowing river of gold at 9.0.
** For every .5 change in difficulty, a little chime plays which increases in pitch the higher you go... until 8.0, where ''every .1 change'' results in a loud foreboding "DUN!" sound.
* The backgrounds of the Intensity scale from the Wii U version's classic mode is no slouch either. Starting from 0.0, as the Intensity increases, the player is lowered into an underground pit, with coins piling up in the background as the monster grows in size and determination. Starting at 4.0, flames begin to swell from the background. By 9.0, the monster has become an EldritchAbomination, flames and dark energy abounding as coins and treasure flow like water.
* Behold; Intensity 9.0 Master Core [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqfcC2VsZyc beaten]] with [[NoDamageRun no damage]]. And with ''[[MightyGlacier Ganondorf]]'' [[TierInducedScrappy of all people!]]
* Master Core gains a Wii U-exclusive form: Master Fortress. It's an ENTIRE adventure stage as a BOSS!
** To explain this a little better, Master Fortress is a Wii U-only form that appears on 8.0 difficulty and higher. It appears once you beat Master Shadow, and contains versions of various Smash Run enemies created out of the Swarm. The goal is to destroy the 4 'hearts' within the Fortress, which isn't easy because there's acidic Danger Zones all over the place. The new, creepy music playing during the first half of the battle doesn't help. However, after the second heart is destroyed, the player is thrown outside of the Fortress. The music changes to a triumphant version of the main theme and the player can see that huge chunks of Master Fortress are now missing. You can hear Master Fortress's heartbeat throughout the fight, and it speeds up with every heart you destroy. That's right, the EldritchAbomination controlling Master Hand, and possibly the entire Smash universe, is ''[[OhCrap afraid]]'' ''[[VillainousBreakdown of you]]''!
* Bowser Junior's trailer shows him making short work of much of the cast on his own - and ''then'' he calls in the Koopalings.
** It's even similar to the Mega Man trailer, where Mega Man unexpectedly attacks a group of fighters in a canyon setting. Unlike them, where Mega Man has to call his extra arsenal upon realizing his regular moves aren't enough, Bowser Junior calls in the Koopalings even while he has the advantage.
*** He also gets credit for [[CurbStompBattle pretty much manhandling]] ''Mario''. Yes, he beats the crap out of the guy who kicks his butt AND his father's on a regular basis. To elaborate: He shoots a cannonball at him and then uses a freaking wrecking ball that Mario almost gets crushed by. When Mario runs in to charge Bowser Jr, his Clown Car reveals ''[[ThisIsADrill two huge spinning drills]]'', which he uses to bust Mario's shields open and send him flying. And to top it off, he gets run over by the Clown Car and is sent ''rebounding off the face of the mountain''.
*** Special mention must go to the part when Junior drills Mario's shield. Point A: This is the first time the game's shields are done out of gameplay and it's ''gorgeous'', faithfully shrinking down to the point that it doesn't even cover Mario completely before it breaks. Point B: Even when it didn't cover Mario completely, Junior ''went out of his way'' to ''keep drilling on the shield'' until Mario gets ''shield jumped'' like Jigglypuff.
** Even Mario gets one in that trailer, as he stands to fight his enemy's son alone. His "This is personal" face is epic.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0BBGzfw0pQ "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - 50-Fact Extravaganza" stream]] that aired on October 23, 2014 actually went up to 54. The last one confirmed that '''[[TheBusCameBack Mewtwo]]''' will be back as DownloadableContent for both titles in Spring 2015! It was narrated by the actual in-game announcer, with [[LargeHam ham levels]] better heard than described.
-->TIME FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
** Then in the April 2015 Direct, we finally get Mewtwo's trailer, and it is making up for lost time like a beast, throwing out all its old moves like a powerhouse, set to the awesome Victory Road theme. The opening shot just exudes Mewtwo's sheer power.
** Mewtwo's [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/52261d6fd7ce47e893bc0c9ef9114dab.png official artwork]] is in the '''[[CallBack exact same pose]]''' as its ''[[http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140227140511/ssb/images/e/ef/Ssbmmewtwoclear.png Melee]]'' [[http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140227140511/ssb/images/e/ef/Ssbmmewtwoclear.png artwork]]. Sakurai knows how much the older fanbase [[CreatorBacklash thinks that he outright hates them]], so this was a move on his part to tell them, "[[ThankingTheViewer I'm doing this for you guys above all else because you've loved my work so much for so long]]." Doubles as a {{Heartwarming Moment|s}}.
* 5 PLAYER SMASH! ... 6 PLAYER SMASH! ... [[TeasingCreator and while we're at it]]: 8 PLAYER SMASH!
** Even more awesome was how Sakurai's "Pic of the Day" was like the day after. Who was shown? All eight fighters from the original Smash Brothers on Battlefield. It's been this far since the first game.
** The second picture? All of the introduced newcomers (other than Lucina and Bowser Jr, who are an unlockable and 3DS unlockable respectively) on Big Battlefield.
** Thanks to 8-Player Smash, we are able to have [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario,]] [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Link,]] [[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Pikachu,]] [[VideoGame/PacMan Pac-Man,]] [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Mega Man,]] [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Sonic,]] [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ryu,]] and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud]] not only in the same game, but on-screen at the same time. This is bound to go down as a great achievement in video game history.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEg86qr9Y14 The intro for the Wii U version]] is pretty awesome. It may be panned for simply using gameplay footage combined with the newcomer trailers, but it's still awesome to see all of the iconic video game mascots together accompanied by the epic ''Smash Bros. 4'' theme (the Battlefield mix). The first part of the intro music is taken from the beginning ''[=SSB4=]'' announcement trailer, watching both in comparison really shows how far the game has come since its announcement. Towards the end of the intro, the three third-party characters are shown, letting people know that this ''Smash Bros.'' experience combines Mario with three other of video game history's most famous mascots.
* Some of the titles on the Boxing Ring stage are just plain cool. Special mention goes to:
** Master of Two Dimensions (Mr. Game & Watch)
** TheLastOfHisKind/[[FunWithAcronyms Robotic Obliteration Buddy]] (R.O.B.)
** [[TheDreaded The Yellow Bane of Ghosts]] (Pac-Man)
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBpD_uypG4M Lucas is back.]] Repeat, Lucas is back! This is awesome for two reasons. One, [[RuleOfThree Lucas is back,]] and two this means other DLC characters may come back as well! We may see characters like Wolf come back!
** Lucas's return itself is awesome and brings his character full-circle from when he started in Brawl. No longer the timid, cowardly boy, he pulls a BigDamnHeroes and saves Ness after Ness had been getting thrashed by various fighters.
* The very foundations of the ''Super Smash Bros.'' fandom '''shook''' when the [[https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/ Smash Bros Fighter Ballot]] was announced, to the point that ''other gaming companies'' felt the aftershock. They have taken notice and have said they'd be okay with Nintendo using their characters and are urging people to vote for them. Nintendo also [[http://mynintendonews.com/2015/04/05/nintendo-of-america-representative-says-any-video-game-character-is-eligible-for-super-smash-bros/ pointed out]] that third-party characters are eligible for the ballot, showing not only considerable care for the fans, but also that they're willing to work with the other companies, and that is nothing short of amazing. Some notable examples:
** Phil Spencer, head of Creator/MicrosoftStudios (as in the creator of the UsefulNotes/{{Xbox}}), has [[http://mynintendonews.com/2015/04/03/xbox-boss-phil-spencer-says-he-would-like-banjo-in-next-super-smash-bros-dlc/ publicly announced]] that he would support [[VideoGame/BanjoKazooie Banjo & Kazooie]] as DLC. A very powerful statement coming from what could be considered a rival company to Nintendo, especially since they'd kept the ''Banjo-Kazooie'' series to themselves after buying out Rare. The series started on the UsefulNotes/{{Nintendo 64}} and is remembered fondly by many a Nintendo fan.
** Creator/{{Konami}} retweeted [[https://twitter.com/DenisBrando/status/583405671246405632 this post]] of someone voting for Snake, indicating that they may want Snake to rejoin the fight despite Creator/HideoKojima (who recently quit the company) no longer being able to pull for him. He is a veteran from ''Brawl'' and has a very unique play style, so fans are hopeful.
** Indie developer [[Creator/WayForwardTechnologies WayForward]] is as eager to see their heroine VideoGame/{{Shantae}} join the fight as their fans are, going so far as to provide [[https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero/posts/1187315 her alternate skins]] (Smash-related portion of the article begins about halfway through). The ''Shantae'' series has had three games on Nintendo systems starting as far back as the UsefulNotes/GameBoyColor days, with the fourth (''1/2 Genie Hero'') in the works at the time, so getting her in as DLC would be absolutely huge for the company.
** Other popular indie protagonists including Yacht Club Games' VideoGame/ShovelKnight, Nicalis' [[VideoGame/CaveStory Quote]] and Team Meat's VideoGame/MeatBoy are also being pushed by their respective developers. They're not as long-lived as the rest and are multi-platform titles rather than Nintendo-exclusive, but as seen with Lucas, fan favorites aren't out of the question.
** Ubisoft [[http://segmentnext.com/2015/04/13/ubisoft-wants-you-to-vote-for-rayman-in-super-smash-bros/ has also announced]] that they would be fine with fans voting for Rayman in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. Considering that Rayman has had quite the history with Nintendo and has been a much-wanted character for years (in the west, at least), it's not a big surprise that many fans want to see The Limbless Wonder appear alongside Mega Man and Pacman in Smash Bros. but the fact that Ubisoft wants to see this happen is pretty awesome.
*** But it all paled in comparison to the E3 announcement (which, admittedly had been leaked over the weekend). While Roy was a first-partier and a veteran of past Smash Bros. games, the mood of Nintendo's announcement can be summarized in six words: [[spoiler:[[Franchise/StreetFighter HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!!!]] RYU]]
** Even the staff of Creator/ArtixEntertainment are [[http://www.aq.com/gamedesignnotes/artixsupersmashbros-4789 petitioning for Artix to be voted to appear in Super Smash Bros., from what Alina of the AE staff says.]]
** Also, the staff of [=GalaxyTrail=] join in the fun, stating that fans of ''VideoGame/FreedomPlanet'' have a chance to [[http://fp.boards.net/thread/1910/lilac-smash-bros vote for Sash Lilac to join the Smash Bros. roster.]]
** One reason that might not be that obvious: Smash traditionally adds in new characters based on fan requests and popularity, though these polls are generally based in Japan. With the Smash Ballot, opinions are far more global and all encompassing: meaning even if your character doesn't get voted in, Nintendo can still see the popularity and give that character a thought for Smash 5!
* The "Palutena's Guidance" snippet for DLC characters implies that they've forced their way into the fights from ''another dimension entirely.''
* The June 14 Smash Direct, the day before E3 kicked off, was masterfully played. Lucas was announced to be released on that date, and by now the fact that Roy and a Street Fighter character had data previously planted in the game was common knowledge. So the Direct went on pleasantly, but with not much by way of any real surprises for the foreseeable future - until at the very end, when Sakurai casually announced that not only Lucas and the day's promised content, but Roy, Ryu, several brand-new costumes, a returning stage and a new stage (adding over a dozen new songs to the game) would all be available ''immediately''. The result? The Nintendo E-Shop absolutely ''broke'' with the highest traffic it's ever seen in ''years'' - not even ''VideoGame/{{Earthbound}}'' caused that much of a boom. Even when leaked, Sakurai still takes us all by surprise.
* Was there a third-party character you wanted in the game, but wasn't included? Fret not, for they may be available as a DLC costume for Mii Fighters. As such, it's possible to include other characters that didn't make the cut for the regular roster, such as [[Series/MegaMan Proto Man]], [[Series/MegaManX X, Zero]], [[Series/MegamanBattleNetwork MegaMan.EXE]], [[Series/VirtuaFighter Akira Yuki, Jacky Bryant]], and [[Series/{{Tekken}} Heihachi Mishima]]. This also goes for first-party characters such as [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles Dunban]] and [[VideoGame/AnimalCrossing Isabelle]].
** And as of July 31st, that list got bigger, including costumes of [[VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry King K. Rool]], [[VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening Chrom]], [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTellius the Black Knight]], [[VideoGame/{{Mother}} the Flying Man]], and even [[VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia Lloyd Irving!]]
** September 30th gives us costumes based on [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Toad,]] [[VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising Viridi,]] and [[VideoGame/MonsterHunter Monster Hunter.]] What's more, you get business suits to make Mii Fighters of company staff such as Shigeru Miyamoto, Reggie Fils-Aimé, and even Masahiro Sakurai himself!
** December 16th brings us...a [[Franchise/FinalFantasy Chocobo]] hat with no costume asides, but it also gives us a [[VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG Geno]] costume! After all these years of people joking about Geno being owned by Square Enix, it's finally being noticed. And all it took was Cloud getting in the game.
** Finally, February 2016 is giving us costumes based on [[VideoGame/WarioWare Ashley]], [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Tails, Knuckles]], [[VideoGame/NazoNoMurasamejo Takamaru]], and even [[VideoGame/TheTowerOfDruaga Gil]]!
* Really, just the fact that the level 9 [=CPU=]s have improved as much as they have over the years. They've gotten good enough to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VsRj2miU5Adefeat competitive smash players.]] That's Jtails, a competitive smash player who defeated [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w7sIePrQng Mew2King,]] losing to a level 9 CPU.
* Bowser's known as, "King of the Koopas," on the sign on the boxing ring in both the USA and European version. What is he known as in the Japanese version, "'''[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Great Demon King of the Turtle Tribe]]'''"!
** Really, a lot of the Japanese names are bizarre and somewhat beautiful. For example, Yoshi is known as "Glutton of Yo'ster Isle", Bowser Jr. is known as "The Versatile Chariot", Kirby is known as "Pink Demon", Villager is known as "Preacher of the Slow Life", Shulk is known as "Power Hidden Within Gentleness", and Sheik is known as "Whirlwind that Dances in the Darkness."
* On the November 12, 2015, Nintendo Direct, the first one after Iwata's death, Nintendo knew it was time to drop yet another major bombshell.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII CLOUD STORMS INTO BATTLE!]]
*** For being from a game that never touched a Nintendo system and being known now as a huge emo, his trailer was filled with moments that come straight from the game. From the opening song used at the start instead of the standard opener for SSB character trailers, the battle transition perfectly mimicking the original, both the original and [[Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren Advent Children]] costumes (with matching swords), pulling Omnislash from the film, and that little nod to Cloud's seasickness when he's dizzy on the King of Red Lions. It felt like as much of a love letter as all of the other trailers have been, and for a game that has never appeared on a Nintendo system. That is awesome, and that is love for the art.
*** As can be expected, Youtube reactors went crazy.
* On a meta level, Cloud's inclusion means that even characters without many major games on Nintendo systems are fair game for inclusion. The sky became the limit on that day.
** After the initial shock wore off, the question on everybody's mind was "Does this mean that Cloud won the Smash Ballot?". Immediately after the trailer, the answer comes - a special broadcast the following month will reveal all. When Cloud Strife joining Smash Bros is a mere ''bonus'' in addition to what is to come, the possibilities are simply staggering.
* At the beginning of the final Smash Direct, Corrin, the protagonist of of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'' was announced as the sixth DLC character. Despite a VocalMinority groaning at having ''another'' [=FE=] character in the roster, the [[CrossesTheLineTwice sheer audacity]] of his reveal trailer turned most of the viewer's opinions around. It also helps that his moveset is vastly unlike any of the previous ''Fire Emblem'' characters', revolving around Corrin's [[VoluntaryShapeshifting Manakete powers]], giving one last breath of fresh air from the series after Robin. And speaking of Robin, like him/her, Corrin also comes in both male and female flavors.
* The nature of the Smash Ballot was ''finally'' revealed, being a ThereCanBeOnlyOne deal. So who was the big winner? Three words: [[VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}} BAYONETTA GETS WICKED!]] According to the game's final announcement video, Bayonetta was one of the top five most requested characters in America and the '''number one''' choice in Europe, therefore making her the most requested (and negotiable) character in the entire ballot. Congratulations, Creator/PlatinumGames!
** Eiji Funahashi at Platinum Games, clearly very excited by Bayonetta's inclusion for Smash Bros, creates [[http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/bayonetta.html this]] newcomer illustration, the final one revealed for ''Smash 4'', and rightfully so. It includes a third of the game's enormous roster in loving detail with tons of clever little touches all over the place.
** Bayonetta's inclusion is just further proof that Nintendo's brawler series is a love letter to video games--they could have come up with any number of excuses not to include her, legitimate excuses, and not have to deal with the trouble of her being walking, talking innuendo being ported to a game that is decidedly more kid-friendly. And yes, while they definitely tone her down from her home series, not only do they bring her into the game, her trailer is as much a love letter as any other so far. This may be ''the'' crowning moment for Smash 4--nobody but ''nobody'' believed it would actually happen. Even the people voting for her and hoping for her didn't think it was possible to make her work within Smash Bros, but Nintendo rose to the challenge.
** Something else to think about. When the Fighter Ballot was announced, many developers started rallying their fans to vote for their characters to be voted in. Creator/HidekiKamiya on the other hand, had been getting so many requests to get Bayonetta in Smash ever since the game's announcement that he had to block and reprimand millions of people. Despite this, Bayonetta still won convincingly. Now ''that'' is a dedicated fanbase.
* Simply the magnitude of the roster star power increasing so dramatically from Brawl. When Snake and Sonic were introduced, it was a massive deal to have just two characters that were from third party developers. Now we have ''six.''
* So the ballot ended on October 6th, 2015 [[note]] It was supposed to be the 3rd, but for some reason, it was extended to the 6th.[[/note]], and Bayonetta was announced as the winner of the ballot on December 15th, 2015. In other words, Sakurai somehow managed to get a character to be at least presentable[[note]]Given that he had to release Bayonetta and Corrin about 2 months after on February 3rd, 2016.[[/note]] in just about 2 months time. Now that is very impressive. Especially considering his tendinitis in his arm.

"Huh."\\
''(ReactionShot, silhouette shot)''\\

''(helmet)''\\
''([[AndTheFandomRejoiced/SuperSmashBros ORGY OF FANDOMNESS]])''
* '''April 8th, 2014 Smash Bros Direct.'''
-->'''Palutena Alights!'''
-->TIME FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
** Then in the April 2015 Direct, we finally get Mewtwo's trailer, and it is making up for lost time like a beast, throwing out all its old moves like a powerhouse, set to the awesome Victory Road theme. The opening shot just exudes Mewtwo's sheer power.

* King Dedede ''[[SpotlightStealingSquad is the hero of the entire goddamn story.]]'' (Inasmuch as there is a hero; everyone did their fair share, and the ending essentially proved that all the way through by the way it was played.) * Even ''Olimar'' manages a CMOA, when we see Fox's Arwing, Samus's Gunship, Kirby on the Dragoon, and Falcon's Falcon Flyer, and Olimar's 50's style rocket, the company ship from ''Pikmin 2'', is keeping up with them, even while shuddering in mid-air and making cartoonish sputtering noises.
* When Diddy and Donkey make their first appearance. * Power Suit Samus's entry. Seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRSloDdDM-c here]], one doesn't need an explanation for why it is Samus's CMOA. She's staring in awe at her suit, when a mass of R.O.B.s flood in from the hallway. The shot cuts to the hallway, where the R.O.B.'s are consumed by an explosion as Samus puts on her suit and with one missile blast destroys at least 10 R.O.B.s, and [[SmokeShield she walks out of the smoke.]] Samus puts on her suit and destroys 10 R.O.B.s in ''two seconds''. * Fox meeting Diddy, hurting [[OlympusMons Rayquaza]] as easily as if he was swatting a fly when he pulls out his reflector, causing Rayquaza's energy blast to rebound on itself. (Scene: "Fox Confronts RAYQUAZA")
* Surely Luigi venturing into Subspace to save the others must count? When we first see him, he's terrified of a harmless little Waddle Dee, and now he's willing to go through [[EldritchLocation Subspace]] to save his pals? He [[TookALevelInBadass grew a pair]] between these two events.
** Nah, he had that pair the entire time. [[CowardlyLion He was almost certainly terrified of going into Subspace, but he went in anyway to save his bro and all the other heroes,]] whereas he had no reason to put his fear aside against the Waddle Dees because nobody was in trouble.
* The ending. [[spoiler:After Tabuu is defeated, the world returns to normal, all except for the floating island the [=ROBs=] came from: all that remains of it is a small ball of light. After that, the opening theme for Brawl plays, complete with the Latin lyrics and their English translations. It doesn't quite become a CMOA until about halfway through the song, when we see all the heroes who escaped Subspace standing together on a cliff, looking out at the light where the ROB's island once stood. Seeing all the heroes standing together was a powerful image: many of them were enemies with one another, some were from completely different origins altogether, but all of them made a stand together to save the world from utter destruction. This makes the ending of the game ''THE'' Crowning Moment of Awesome of the Subspace Emissary.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQvWqqLI1mg See it here.]]
* Mario leading the entire Smash Cast to face Tabuu. Sure, they all get defeated by Tabuu's Off-Wings, but still... it was just amazing! Mario is THE leader of all Nintendo, and to see him leading the Smash crew into battle, and going "hm!" with a frown when he sees Tabuu... Mario is just that amazing.
* Yoshi gets a small one after a subspace bomb goes off; while Kirby carries Pit and Link overhead on a warp star, Yoshi runs Mario to safety on his back, like he usually finds himself doing in the mainstream Mario games. What makes it double as awesome is that Yoshi outruns the explosion ''and'' manages to keep up relatively well with a warp star.
* Link's introduction, in which he draws the Master Sword while the Legend of Zelda title theme swells. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX7u0fhHu04 See it here.]]
* Ike, Marth, Pokemon Trainer, and others appear to be overwhelmed by Shadowbugs at The Canyon. Only for five figures decide to make the odds more even and leap into action. Those five you ask? Mario, Link, Pit, Kirby, and Yoshi!
* Here's one point that only really becomes evident in hindsight: Peach is much less willing to fight than, oh, ''everybody''. This is the World of Trophies, where everyone is a Blood Knight from [[SelfDemonstrating/{{Ganon}} Ganondorf]] to [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Jigglypuff]], and being turned into a Trophy is death in part because you ''can't'' fight. A pacifistic character just goes against the rules of the world. This alone makes Peach pretty damn impressive.
* One for Bowser, but also doubling as a CrowningMomentOfFunny: Ganondorf [[spoiler:shoots down Bowser with a Dark Cannon, but is later revived by Dedede. The very first thing Bowser does after siding with Dedede is to ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkChf63Q0aQ sprint up to and beat down]]'' Ganondorf's trophy. And when he was revived, it's implied that Ganondorf ''felt'' it all, too.]]
[[AC:Other modes and the overall game]]
* Being the game that ''introduced'' [[FinishingMove Final Smashes]], each character gets one. Let us list the ways, shall we?
** Mario Finale: Mario shoots two streams of fire that scorch their opponents. The trophy description in ''Brawl'' even describes them as "twin dragons of flame."
** Konga Beat: Donkey Kong gets out the DK Bongos and uses them in a manner similar to ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong64'', turning the battle into a RhythmGame, with each successful press of the A button creating a greater shock wave.
** Triforce Slash: Link/Toon Link (and later Young Link) traps the enemy in the Triforce of Courage and quickly cuts them to ribbons before finishing with a stab and sending them careening off the screen.
** Zero Laser: Samus fires a WaveMotionGun across the screen which engulfs anyone in its path. At first, the power was so great that it stripped Samus of her Power Suit, but she's since overcome that little hurdle.
** Super Dragon: Yoshi sprouts wings and starts spitting fire as if he'd eaten a Red ''and'' Blue shell, darting across the screen and singing every enemy in sight.
** Cook Kirby: Kirby takes one of his strongest abilities from his series and cooks anyone unlucky enough not to dodge. As a bonus, he even gets some refreshments.
** Landmaster: Fox/Falco/Wolf[[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers (?)]] summons the tank in question and proceeds to run over and blast their opponents. In Falco's case, he can fly so high that the Landmaster's top can launch opponents into a K.O. just by ''flying.''
** Volt Tackle: Pikachu (and later Pichu) engulfs himself in electricity and darts around the screen, shocking opponents in his wake and delivering powerful electric blasts all the while.
** Negative Zone: Luigi does a strange dance and creates a field of negative energy which [[ConfusionFu causes a wide variety of effects]]. According to WordOfGod, it's a reflection of the darkness he embraced from being stuck as Mario's number two, meaning [[DarkIsNotEvil he learned to weaponize his status as a]] ButtMonkey!
** PK Starstorm: Ness/Lucas causes several shooting stars to fall down from the sky, damaging anyone under them. The trophy descriptions state that Poo and Kumatora respectively taught them the technique.
** Blue Falcon: Captain Falcon calls upon his F-Zero racer and has it slam into anyone in its vicinity, knocking them to a track before proceeding to ''run them right over with the vehicle!''
** Puff Up: Jigglypuff takes its status as the [[{{Balloonacy}} Balloon Pokémon]] to its logical extreme by growing to the size of a hot-air balloon and expelling the air around it to cause damage. In some stages, it even fills up the entire screen!
** Peach Blossom: Peach does a small dance that puts everyone to sleep and summons peaches to recover any lost health.
** Giga Bowser: Bowser transforms into the titular TrueFinalBoss of ''Melee's'' Adventure Mode, becoming even stronger and giving his attacks added elemental effects.
** Iceberg: The Ice Climbers ''somehow'' summon a giant [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin iceberg]] in the middle of the stage which proceeds to do freezing damage to anyone making contact with it.
** Light Arrow: Zelda/Sheik fires a giant Light Arrow from Twilight Princess, and anyone it hits is seen in BulletTime, effectively telling them their fate is sealed.
** Critical Hit: Marth (and later Lucina) rushes at the opponent with Falchion and delivers a powerful blow, causing their health bar (yes, the attack summons a ''health bar'') to go straight to zero and ensure an instant K.O.
** Beast Ganon: Ganondorf turns into Ganon, stomps the ground to entrap everyone in his line of sight, and rushes at them like a mammoth-sized battering ram.
** Octopus: Mr. Game & Watch transforms into the titular cephalopod and attacks his foes with its tentacles.
** Galaxia Darkness: Meta Knight shrouds the opponent in his cape, then delivers several slashes at what appears to be light speed. In the trophy description, it even states that it can hit anyone adjacent to the attack, implying that Meta Knight zips back and forth to do this.
** Palutena's Army: Pit calls upon his very goddess, who summons the Centurions to assist the angel [[HeroicSacrifice at the cost of their lives]].
** Power Suit Samus: Zero Suit Samus just puts her Power Suit back on. It doesn't seem that impressive, until you realize that activating it near an opponent does massive damage. In other words, Samus can hurt people by ''putting her clothes back on.''
** Wario-Man: Wario eats a clove of garlic and transforms, gaining extraordinary speed and power. Every one of his attacks could be considered a recovery move, his fart is powerful enough to launch him off the screen if you're not careful, and his Wario Bike can send him accidentally flying off the stage!
** Grenade Launcher: Snake jumps into a helicopter and fires grenades at his opponents, blowing each of them to kingdom come as he sees fit. It even got a SpiritualSuccessor in the form of Zero Suit Samus' Final Smash later.
** Great Aether: Ike launches his opponent into the air with Ragnell and delivers a series of flaming slashes, ending with him rocketing down with one final slice that sends his foe skyward.
** Triple Finish: Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard team up and use Hydro Pump, Solar Beam and Fire Blast at the same time to utterly decimate the opposition.
** Rocketbarrel Barrage: Diddy Kong gets out his Rocketbarrel Pack and shoots at everyone with [[DualWielding dual-wielded]] Peanut Popguns. As a bonus, the ones that don't hit can be eaten to restore health.
** Super Sonic: Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to turn into his iconic GoldenSuperMode and flies around the screen, becoming even faster and just destroying anyone he touches.
** Waddle Dee Army: King Dedede does the '''''[[MemeticMutation BIG GAY DANCE]]''''' to summon an army of Waddle Dees, Waddle Doos, and Gordos to cause chaos across the field.
** End of Day: Olimar gets in the Hocotate Ship and flies off, leaving his foes to take damage from the Distant Planet's denizens before kamikazeing the stage. And anyone caught in the initial liftoff is embedded into the ground, possibly unable to do anything about it.
** Aura Storm: Lucario darts upward and fires a KamehameHadouken downward, which can be guided to hit any opponents in its path. No wonder Lucario's often compared to [[Franchise/DragonBall Goku]]!
** Diffusion Beam: R.O.B. creates a short, spiral-shaped beam of energy that entraps anyone caught in it, allowing for even greater combos. And if it ever shorts out, it does even ''more'' damage than the usual attack.
* The scene "The Great Invasion" in the "Subspace Emissary", [[spoiler:where the ''Halberd'' goes up against Ganondorf and Bowser's battleship. The ''Halberd'' gets destroyed by only a few shots (yes, that's right, the friggin ''Halberd'' gets thoroughly owned), only to have Samus's gunship, the Falcon Flyer, Falco's Arwing, and even Olimar's little rocket fly out of the blast, right into the teeth of Ganondorf's guns, weaving through and around {{roboteching}} lasers bigger than they are... and it's all a distraction, to allow Kirby to get close enough on the [[HoverBoard Dragoon]] to take the ship down in one hit.]]
** See it [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaAKKfZVSWw here]], in all its massive awesomeness.
** The fact that Kirby [[spoiler:saved Link, Zelda, Peach, Yoshi, Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, R.O.B, Snake, and Wario '''singlehandedly''' from the trophification.]]
** Not to mention [[spoiler:the battleship itself, which looks like a star destroyer that TookALevelInBadass. Ganondorf and Bowser. Commanding a star destroyer. Which they blew up a floating island to even ''use''.]]
*** Their reaction to [[spoiler:the ship's destruction is pretty awesome as well. Ganondorf turns with a CapeSwish and strides into Subspace while Bowser clinches his fists and follows. As they disappear from view, the platform they were just standing on explodes.]] Bad. Ass.
* Most of the cast in the Subspace Emissary gets at least one moment. Case in point, [[spoiler:R.O.B., in his intro scene "Ganondorf Takes Command" (the one where it first lists his name), right after his own kind turned on him, spends a solid minute ''[[ManOnFire on fire]]'', looking perhaps a little sad at worst, then proceeds to blast several flying mooks out of the air with consecutive eye-laser blasts before shaking off the fire. Additionally, he spent the better portion of the scene ''[[IncendiaryExponent on fire]]''. And it was awesome.]]
* King Dedede ''[[SpotlightStealingSquad is the hero of the entire goddamn story.]]'' (Inasmuch as there is a hero; everyone did their fair share, and the ending essentially proved that all the way through by the way it was played.) Which is funny because Sakurai VOICED him... so basically, the creator of the series saved everyone... yes.
** Additionally, King Dedede's ''[[AnotherSideAnotherStory entire side story]]'' is a CrowningMomentOfAwesome. [[spoiler: He lands a OneHitKO on Luigi, jacks Wario's car, puts badges on all three stolen trophies [[HeroicSacrifice except himself,]] and ends up reviving Ness and Luigi with his badges, and saving half the cast's lives.]]
* Sonic's unexpected appearance. Players wait most of the game waiting for him to show up, and then [[spoiler:was totally blindsided when he stopped Tabuu from turning everyone back into trophies in the "The Final Battle" scene. Too bad that was a case of GameplayAndStorySegregation.]]
** This point deserves a bit of expansion. Just before Sonic appears, [[spoiler:Tabuu was getting ready to turn everyone back into trophies, but this time, Dedede's badge's weren't on any of them. Had this succeeded, EVERYONE would be a trophy forever and Tabuu would win. Sonic intervening and breaking Tabuu's wing's essentially saved the entire Nintendo universe!]]
** It seems both ironic AND fitting that the fastest character in the game would be [[spoiler:the LAST guy to show up]].
** The weird thing is, this is actually ''in-character'' for Sonic; [[spoiler: not taking action until the absolutely LAST MOMENT, because he's so goddamn fast he can afford to wait that long]] is a trait shown in several of his own continuities.
* Ness when [[spoiler:fighting off Wario in the "Lucas Leaves Ness" scene. Not only does he evade every shot targeting him, but when Wario shoots at the crybaby Lucas, NESS TAKES THE HIT FOR HIM. ** Immediately after this scene, Ness and Lucas team up and fight Porky. Ness and Lucas teaming up by itself is awesome given that they never met in canon due to a long time skip between games; having them team up against the one guy they both have as an enemy is even better.
* Probably not as awesome as some of the finer moments, but in the "The Destiny of Ridley & Samus" scene, Samus's eternal nemesis Ridley [[spoiler:spends a good minute fucking Samus up -- half of that being grinding her, suit and all, against a wall. * Another one for Ganondorf... [[spoiler:After seeing the ''creator of the world'' being effortlessly manipulated into doing another being's dirty work, what does Ganondorf do? He jumps and tries to whup Tabuu's ''{{Franchise/Tron}}''-inspired ass. Too bad he fails. (Scene: "The Crushing, Ruinous Defeat")]]
* And because nobody else has directly said anything about it, [[spoiler:Ness and Luigi being revived from the their trophy state and immediately reviving Dedede once they saw the badges on them. This was a CMOA because, dude, Dedede's plan ''worked'', and if it wasn't for those three (and Kirby), everybody would be screwed. (Scene: "King Dedede's Timed Badges")]]
* Lucario [[spoiler:finding Snake hiding in his box]] just goes to show you that Lucario [[spoiler:is smarter than Metal Gear bad guys]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RELSX1rpiaY See video here]]. (Scene: "LUCARIO Discovers Snake")
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTizNmnhL7U This Trailer]] for the Subspace Emissary, set to the "[[Film/ThreeHundred This! Is! Sparta!]]" [[StupidStatementDancemix Remix.]] Also [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Cn3rt0UYPw this one]], set to the ''300'' trailer audio.
(Scene: "Samus Revived")
** Technically, it wasn't all for naught. The Smash crew fights through tons of enemies along the way, so they probably [[spoiler:made Ness, Luigi, Dedede, and Kirby's job easier.]]
* A small one for the Ice Climbers during The Glacial Peak. In the cutscene before the level, Meta Knight is shown to be ahead of them and has the obvious advantage of being able to fly. The Ice Climbers have slightly decent regular jumping abilities and a rope. In addition, MK is much more of a natural at fighting all the enemies on the mountain than the climbers. Despite this, they still reach the top before MK in the next cutscene. Popo and Nana might not be natural fighters or heroes, but in their field they're second to none.

* ''Awesome/SuperSmashBrosMelee''

[[folder:Super Smash Bros. Melee]]
* For [[RootingForTheEmpire fans of the bad guys]], ''Melee'' itself gets one for introducing [[TokenEvilTeammate villainous fighters]], allowing people to play as [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Bowser]], [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]], and ([[DependingOnTheWriter debatably]]) [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Mewtwo]]. Fans of [[Franchise/StarFox Wolf]] and [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Ridley]] can thank this game for making it all possible.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qzSJnD_hgE Giga Bowser]] at the end of Adventure mode. It looks like you've just beaten the final opponent in the Adventure, when all of a sudden, Bowser returns from the pit and ''transforms into an evil demon version of himself.'' And if you think that's already epic, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mRtuum-xng take a look at this unbelievable Giga Bowser KO.]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD_imYhNoQ4 Two words: Wombo Combo.]]
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp92T0Iw2cc The intro movie to]] ''Melee''. The whole damn thing. From the Mario trophy coming to life with the help of [[ShockAndAwe electricity]] and [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic a wailing choir]], to one of the best [[TitleScream Title Screams]] in video games. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcPipl6RAfQ The movie was originally made to demonstrate features of the Gamecube not possible on the Nintendo 64]] and by God does it ''show'', still holding up even a decade after Melee's release.
** The EstablishingCharacterMoment shown in the intro for each character. Highlights include; Mario showing off his acrobatic skills, Bowser appearing in an inferno of flames, Link practicing his sword skills (and is joined by Zelda and Ganondorf, the other Triforce wielders in showing off their gauntlet marks), Franchise/DonkeyKong swinging through his jungle home, Samus fighting Ridley, Popo and Nana (the Ice Climbers) scaling a series of glacier platforms, Nana saving Popo when he slips, and Ness arriving in Onett via teleport running.
** During Link's practicing, a collection of scenes involving his young self appear in the background, showing how he became the legendary Hero of Time he is today.
* Melee getting recognition and respect at EVO 2013. To elaborate, for years players of other fighting games didn't take a platform fighter like Smash Bros. seriously, even though Melee had great players as far back as 2002-2003. Getting your favorite competitive fighting game added to the pool of games played/streamed is not easy especially something on the level of EVO.
* While it's still reasonable to want Ganondorf to have his own moveset, there's a brilliant thing about having him as a clone of Captain Falcon. The Captain's moveset is the truest to ''[[http://www.ssbwiki.com/Dragon_King:_The_Fighting_Game Dragon King]]'', the alpha version of Smash Bros. So when Ganondorf copies his style, it's a shameless way to shoehorn him in at the last minute, sure, but it also means Ganondorf is effectively using the very first moves that were ever developed for ''Smash Bros'', fitting for the ancient King of Evil.
* Pulling off a counter. "Your Marth is about to get Falcon Punched! What will you do?" Your friend laughs maniacally as you stand there about to get punched. On more second and- *DING* -Cpt. Falcon disappears off the screen...at the other side.

Talk about a noble sacrifice.]] This turns out to pay off later when [[spoiler:King Dedede's badges restore him and Luigi because King Dedede had put the badges on the two of them, as they restore King Dedede right away, and the trio proceed to find and restore about half of everybody hit by Tabuu's earlier attack.]] Oh, and just look at his expressions, such as when he's looking at [[spoiler:a restored Dedede]]. Heck, the only reason why you'd expect somebody with a baby face like Ness's to pull this off is because of examples like Kirby as indicated above.
** This is also a moment of awesome for ''Wario'', who never before has been ''genuinely sinister and frightening''.
** Hell, Ness [[spoiler:destroying the Pig King statue with one PK Flash hit]] in the "Ness and Porky Face Off" scene certainly counts -- especially since in ''Mother 3'', [[spoiler:it has ''one hundred million hit points'' and can't be destroyed without a certain weapon]]. Totally win.
*** Believe it or not, [[spoiler:PK Flash can kill that statue in one hit in ''Mother 3'', [[FridgeBrilliance because that boss is susceptible to the side effects of PK Flash, including a one-hit kill.]]]] [[GameplayAndStorySegregation Unfortunately you can't repeat the stunt in the stage proper, even playing as Ness.]]
He would have kept it up until Samus was a goner had Pikachu not interfered. Yes, ''[[ComMons Pikachu]]'', electrocuting and causing real, ''serious'' damage to someone who regularly fights toe-to-toe with Samus Fuckin' Aran.]]
* "Sheik and the Fallen Arwing", the princess's scene. [[spoiler:Fox is strafing the ''Halberd'', but might have caught Peach in the crossfire. Zelda (in her Sheik persona) doesn't like that, so she leaps up onto Fox's Arwing and ''spearhands through the canopy''. The two drop to the deck [[LetsYouAndHimFight and start fighting]] -- but Peach, unhurt, promptly ends the fight by offering Fox a cup of tea. Fox is confused for a moment, then looks back at Sheik, who already has a cup.]] Doubles as a SugarWiki/{{Funny Moment|s}}. Not to mention [[spoiler:Peach calmly walking on the Halberd's deck ''as explosions go off behind her''.]]
* Several characters, like Fox ("Fox Confronts [[OlympusMons RAYQUAZA]]"), Falco ("Falco Appears"), and Falcon ("The Two Captains") had awesome entrances.
* The cutscene introducing Olimar and Captain Falcon is a [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments hilarious]] example. We start with a shot of the Pikmin swarming a giant-size ROB, who promptly spins its arms and sends them flying off (and killing about two-thirds of them), causing the tiny-by-comparison Olimar to step back. But then a red Pikmin points at something in the distance, Olimar looks back, and, with the Mute City theme blaring in the background, Captain Falcon zooms out of nowhere in the Blue Falcon, ejects forward from the seat at several miles an hour, delivers a ''FALCON PUNCH'' to the R.O.B.'s head that sends it flying off into the distance, and then does a cool pose as he lands and powerskids to a stop.....straight through the rest of Olimar's Pikmin, killing them all. The music abruptly stops, and Olimar gives him a blank stare.
* Snake is introduced in the only cutscene in the entire story to feature coherent dialogue:
--> '''Snake:''' [[BreakingTheFourthWall "Kept you waiting, huh?"]]
* While not as awesome as some of the above, Snake's [[spoiler:instant unexpected ownage of the Game & Watches on the Halberd in "The Ones in the Bridge" was pretty cool.]] Plus, Dedede [[spoiler:in his first appearance, "King Dedede Steals Peach/King Dedede Steals Zelda", 1-hit surprise KO'ing Luigi and going on to use his Waddle Dees to steal Wario's ride and his trophies.]]
** On the subject of Dedede, when [[spoiler:Bowser attacks him and gets knocked out. Dedede revives him and Bowser steps up to fight him again, and Dedede just pimp-slaps him in the face. (Scenes: "King Dedede Vs. King Bowser" and "The True Enemy Is Right There").]]
* Mario gets one if you choose to save Peach: Once he sees her trophy disappearing at the hands of Link later in the game, he ''charges right at him''. Link avoids being punched into the ground! If you save Zelda the whole scenario is reversed; it's Link who charges at Mario, who then avoids becoming a plumber-kebab. (Scene: "Mario's Misunderstanding/Link's Misunderstanding")
* There is also their BigDamnHeroes later, when Mario, Link, Pit, Yoshi and Kirby get their {{Ass Kicking Pose}}s, and jump in a YeahShot to fight the Primids attacking Lucas, PT, Marth, and Ike. (Scene: "The Five Warriors") It's unfortunate that the Yeah Shot gets cut off later when re-viewing the scenes.
* The very team up of three of the biggest badasses on the roster (Lucario, Meta Knight and Snake) during the Halberd arc.
* The Ancient Minister has been dropping Subspace Bombs left and right, easily escaping every single foe that tries to stop him (even the ones that fly!), avoiding even Marth and Meta Knight's attacks... when all of a sudden [[{{BFS}} Ragnell]] spins into frame, shortly followed by Ike, and he slices through the Minister's bomb-carrying arm with his Aether move, sending the enemy spinning into the distance and rendering the bomb useless. The three go into a badass pose , as well as the Ancient Minister's dawning look of realization (read: "[[OhCrap Oh shit]]" look) as he notices the sword come up behind him. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWf_nn8jFoc See it here]] (Scene: "Ike Unleashes Aether")
** Just to add to the awesome, this is [[spoiler:the only time anyone successfully prevents a subspace bomb from being deployed.]] The team of Ike with MK and Marth running interference is just that awesome.
* Mario and Link get one in one stage where they charge at a pair of R.O.B.s about to detonate a subspace bomb, while dodging a steady stream of lasers. The two most iconic. Nintendo. Characters. Ever. Mario. And. Link. On a team. Dodging lasers. Badass. (Scene: "The R.O.B. Army Rallies")
* Lucas [[spoiler:growing a pair and fighting Wario. (Scene: "The Wario and Lucas Rematch")]]
** Also, Lucas [[spoiler:when he and Pokemon Trainer were picked up by Galleom and flown into the sky, rather than being caught in Galleom's explosion, Lucas blew off Galleom's arm, freeing himself and the PT. What made it awesome was that Lucas knew full well that they were screwed either way, but still tried to protect the unconscious PT from impact, and Meta Knight caught them in midair for the win. (Scene: "Galleom Self-Destructs")]]
* Even ''Olimar'' manages a CMOA, when we see Fox's Arwing, Samus's Gunship, Kirby on the Dragoon, and Falcon's Falcon Flyer, and Olimar's 50's style rocket, the company ship from ''Pikmin 2'', is keeping up with them, even while shuddering in mid-air and making cartoonish sputtering noises.
* When Diddy and Donkey make their first appearance. One of Bowser's minions fires a pair of Bullet Bills at Donkey, Diddy rushes out of the forest, jumps off of Donkey's back, and then goes into BulletTime and fires two Peanut Popguns at the Bullet Bills *pak* *pak*. Then, he shoots one more shot at a third Bullet Bill, and lands next to Donkey. They both do an AssKickingPose as the Bullet Bill lands behind them and ''EXPLODES''. (Scene: "Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong")
** Before that, Bowser's mooks swipe his bananas and what does DK do? WRECKS the mooks he can get his hands on and leaps out of the bushes with a ''ROAR''. If that's not badass enough for the thrilla gorilla, nothing is.
* The scenes where after cornering the supposed leader of the subspace army, Ganondorf [[spoiler:pops out of nowhere as a hologram and presses a button which makes all the [=ROBs=] turn on the subspace bombs]]; it's the first time Ganondorf directly interferes with the heroes, and it is very evil. (Scene: "Ganondorf Takes Command")
(Scene: "Samus Revived")
** Technically, it wasn't all for naught. The Smash crew fights through tons of enemies along the way, so they probably [[spoiler:made Ness, Luigi, Dedede, and Kirby's job easier.]]

* For [[RootingForTheEmpire fans of the bad guys]], ''Melee'' itself gets one for introducing [[TokenEvilTeammate villainous fighters]], allowing people to play as [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Bowser]], [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]], and ([[DependingOnTheWriter debatably)]] [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Mewtwo]].
