* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: During the {{Teaser}} of Episode 14, one of the singers of BOYS AND MEN (who performed the opening themes for both ''Shinkalion Z'' and [[Anime/ShinkansenHenkeiRoboShinkalion its predecessor]]) is shown on a radio program introducing a new song from the band. The show then cuts to the opening theme.

** The previous season had a limited merchandise crossover between [[TheMovie the ALFA-X movie]] and Manga/GalaxyExpress999, but remained at that. Maetel makes an appearance in Episode 20's [[TheStinger Stinger]], but Episode 21 the crossover is for ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' instead.

* AgentMulder: Shin, who has an ambition to solve all the mysteries of the world.
* AgentScully: Yamakasa, to an extent. Naturally this caused a bit of friction between him and Shin at first.

** Compared to the Kitoralsus, the Teoti become less mysterious and make their presence known much sooner.

The only older one was Hokuto Hayasugi, whose Shinkalions were specially designed for drivers with low compatibility ratings).[[/note]]

* MechaExpansionPack: The Zailiners function as this, taking the place of a Shinkalion Z's legs or arms, and upgrading its weaponry. For example, the Shinkalion Z E5 jettisons its arms and Z-Combines with the Zailiner E235 ''Yamanote'' to form the Shinkalion Z E5 ''Yamanote'', turning its two small handheld swords into one large BladeBelowTheShoulder, and giving it a shield.
** The Zailiner [=HC85=] ''Hida'' is unusual in that it turns into both arms ''and'' legs for a Shinkalion Z.
* MightyLumberjack: Taiju and the Shinkalion Z E7 have this vibe.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:Sogyoku saving Setsura]] in Episode 29.
* RailEnthusiast: Abuto. However, he's decidedly more soft-spoken about it than Hayato – [[{{Tsundere}} making it more humorous when he insists he's just appraising them from an engineering standpoint]]. Abuto is also more of a fan of the ''zairaisen'' (conventional trains) whereas Hayato was more of a ''shinkansen'' (bullet train) buff.

* TransformingMecha: As always.

** While both Rei and Yamakasa are both [[ChildProdigy Child Prodigies]], Rei considered himself a [[SenpaiKohai kouhai]] to the other drivers while Yamakasa is a bit more willing to step on his comrades' toes (especially Shin) to the point of coming off as a bit of an InsufferableGenius.

** While both Miku and Maetel are InkSuitActors of characters from famous franchises, Maetel's Shinkalion Z H5 is more based around long-range combat than Miku's H5, which used Kendo.
