Working Title: One Mario Limit: From YKTTW

  • Grev: I'm not sure Sakura fits. Not only are there two Sakuras in Anime, but there's Sakura from Street Fighter.
  • Tenko: I agree. There are a lot of Sakura in anime. Would anyone object to removing it?
  • Dtecno Kira: I wouldn't object. Oh and there are tons more Sakuras in Anime. And a few more in video games. The Other Wiki lists over 10 examples of fictional characters with that name. I hope no one minds, I'm going to try to delete it.

Mizaru: Maybe that should be made a subtrope or its own trope — multiple-use names that are nevertheless exclusively associated with one character by his/her respective fans. The "Haruhi" example falls under this, "Hikari" also qualifies (see the YKTTW), and I can think of "Sora" as being one too.

Zeke: Removed Angel and Spike on account of are you nuts? I can think of four other Angels (The Wild Bunch, RENT, One Must Fall 2097, and the X-Men) and five other Spikes (Cowboy Bebop, Transformers, The Land Before Time, Degrassi, and a one-off gag in Sluggy Freelance) just off the top of my head.

ralphmerridew: Should the Indiana Jones description be reworked? Was he a reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada_Smith ?1

ralphmerridew: "Cover Her Face" by P. D. James had a character named "Alice Liddell", but as far as I could tell, there was not allusion to Alice In Wonderland.

Pro-Mole: Someone please help clarifying that the "two St. Peters" example is actually an aversion, please? I just don't know where to cut...
Ulti S.: Conversation In The Main Page:

  • This Troper's mother thinks that it's absolutely horrible to name anyone or anything Homer because she automatically associates it with Homer Simpson. Not that it could be an old family name or that someone could be really enthusiastic about The Odyssey or The Iliad. It must always refer to The Simpsons.

Clearly not an example:

Phew!

  • St. Peter of Somewhere, and St. Peter of Somewhere Else.
  • There's St. Peter the Apostle, St. Peter Clavier, and a third St. Peter (whose surname/title I can't remember right now).
    • The Other Wiki lists 29 Peters considered saints, including the Apostle.
  • Do you know how many St. John's there are?
    • According to The Other Wiki, 2-4 Scriptural (depending on whether you consider the Apostle, the Evangelist, and the author of the book of Revelation to be the same or different), and 37 ecclesiastical. Not to mention the use of St. John as a surname...
    • And the two Canadian cities - Saint John, and St. John's. Seriously, things get confusing north of the 49th.
  • There are a bunch of Catherines: St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Catherine Laboure are the only ones I can name off the top of my head, though.
  • There are two Saints Bernard (one of Menthon and one of Clairvaux)
  • A joke I know goes by this: a mountain climber falls, prays for Saint Francis, and after being rescued, the saint asks "of Assisi or Paola?", dropping the climber eventually after declaring to be the other one.

Prfnoff: Removed for obvious reasons:

  • While there was no actual character in the film named it, the movie Jezebel pretty much sealed the deal for this Biblical name to be associated with scheming, evil women.
    • The Biblical Jezebel being plenty scheming and evil, one might think the movie title was effect rather than cause.
  • How many Elmers can you name? Just one?
